Bailarina Bars, aka Dollar-Dance or Two-Dollar Dance Clubs For $15 to $20, one of the women will sit with you and share a beer for a few minutes. I'm making this post as someone experienced with these bars — I’ve been hanging out at them for years. Things have changed, and in many cases, have gotten out of hand. For you newcomers, I feel like I have to be my brother’s keeper and help you avoid the scams. All these bailarina bars should have a clear sign on the wall outlining the prices: A dance per song is $1 to $2. Buying a drink for a girl is $20 per drink. For example, 5 drinks would be $100. For newcomers: When you first walk in and see lots of girls around you, you might think you’ve hit the jackpot. But here comes the dark side — you open a tab with your debit or credit card and start drinking. A girl walks up to you, and after a few words, she asks you to buy her a beer. You say “okay” because you think she likes you. But neither she nor the bartender tells you it costs $20 until you’re ready to check out, and suddenly your bill is $300 to $400 or more. Another scam: You might order a bucket of beer, and as she drinks, she’ll secretly pour the beer back into the bucket or switch to a light drink (like Baileys or vodka cranberry) which she can consume much faster. If you get too drunk, pickpocketing becomes a real risk. And while your card tab is still open, it’s also a target for an extra 2 or 3 drinks added to your bill. How to protect yourself: Have cash on hand. Keep your debit and credit cards out of the bar’s reach. Pay for everything on the spot as you’re being served so you're always clear about what you're spending — and never open a tab.
