Xcellent Soul Food is exactly what it is. I've been living in this neighborhood for quite some time and somehow I missed this gem. Love the food and the staff is welcoming. So far I've been there 3 times and this food is exactly what they advertise. Xcellent is Excellent.
I ordered food for delivery and it was absolutely delicious. The collard greens are well seasoned, the mac & cheese is more of a Caribbean macaroni pie, which is my favorite style of this dish and the shrimp were crispy and well seasoned!
I’m From Nc a friend told me about this Xcellent soul food and I’m SayinG You won’t regret eating here. The customer service was AMAZING THEY GET U IN AND OUT WITH A SMILE AND TO ME THAT MEANS ALOT THE COLLARD GREENS COOKED JUST HOW I LIKE IT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND XCELLENT SOUL FOOD
Me and my friend were looking for a bite to eat and stumbled upon this place let me just say the food is sooooo fire. We ordered the Oxtail, honey garlic wings, Mac and cheese and the yams. We have nothing bad to say about this place the food is really that good
I come here at least once a week, the food is amazing and they give huge portions.
Had baked chicken, mac n cheese, and yams, with a side of banana pudding and it came with a cornbread. The plate was really good and the portions was enough for 2 but the bread was soooooooo dry and banana pudding was disgusting!! Great service though and they way they was piling the food on my plate, ahh maannn! 😋
The food was pretty good with big portions! The lady serving didn't seem to be in the greatest of moods, but otherwise it was a good experience!
The food was ok. I got the large turkey wings, with two sides ( candied yams and collard greens) The portions were good. I also got meatloaf, with two sides ( I asked for Mac and cheese and they gave me yams and I also got the Blackeyed peas). The meatloaf was too salty, and the Blackeyed peas tasted funny.
Would love to order again to give them a valid 4 stars. Not bad for my first time . Missing my favorite Mountain Dew but the oxtail was amazing and it wasn’t even warm so the cook did their thing. Cornbread was nice and juicy. Must try again
The fish was made to order, which was nice. The mac & cheese was good, but kinda bland, same with the greens. The candied yams were good. Cornbread was a bit dry.
Trying to find a good soul food place in Brooklyn is hard. This one was okay. It has that oldschool style to it Food was Tasteless and kinda bland They have REALLY great deals but then when you eat the food, you'll see why it's priced so low
I placed a delivery order to send to my 90 year old Mom the day before Thanksgiving so that she could enjoy a traditional meal on the following day which would be Thanksgiving as I was unable to be there. I ordered Turkey Wings with a side of Collard Greens & Potato Salad. Unfortunately the greens were packed with the wings and salad and had not been properly drained. So everything on the plate was soaked in the liquid from the collard greens turning the Potato Salad into a soup as my mother described it; and the Turkey wings were soggy. Most restaurants have the common sense to pack greens and potato salad in separate containers. Mom is not tech savvy enough to provide photos so I was unable to support my claim to Uber Eats for a refund. I am livid. Hence I must give this poor review to pacify myself over $30 wasted and an unhappy Mom on what I had hoped to be a special day. This is the first time I ordered from this restaurant and it will be my last.
Food was terrible. This is not authentic soul food. If you like mediocre, then this place will be good for you.
Macaroni and cheese taste spoiled every single time fresh out the oven I don’t know what’s going on.
First let me start of by saying I use to love buying food here the oxtail was the best .. I order 2 sandwiches and an oxtail today and I was so angry . I was given 2 slices of bread and fry chicken the chicken was raw . I don’t do review but I had too today because when I call the person that answer the phone was rude to me
I'm certified in culinary arts and from the south (Mississippi/Dirty South), so unless you want to read a very thorough review, I suggest you read others. I'm not a fan of this meal in general. In terms of a seasoning vs spices debate (yes there's a difference to some), the catfish was breaded w/ a hint of spice alone, to which did not make the fish taste any better. It was bland and not very flavorful. And it was one piece. Unless your catfish costs $20 a pound, I shouldn't be getting just one piece. Not to mention soggy due to the black eyed peas. The collard greens had a taste that wasn't suitable to my stomach nor my partner. It tasted in comparison to a spicy piece of rubber. And apparently from my partner's viewpoint, the only thing that was satisfying was the peas. I get that you tried to compliment one piece of fish with hefty side dishes, but that was unacceptable in my eyes. I completely got nothing from this establishment and will not be returning again. To cook soul food is to cook from the heart. To put your passion into what you create for your consumers. I don't think I'll be getting that when you have a chef dealing with food while touching his phone with gloves on (contamination) or a woman handling food with long nails that could easily chip off into someone's food regardless of having gloves on. This restaurant to me was not worth my time and money but do not let my comment discourage you (as this is only MY opinion). Enjoy....
