What Customers Say About Evangeline
Evangeline is a quaint spot with delicious Creole-inspired food and attentive service. The patio is cozy, but can be cold. Standout dishes include the shrimp etouffee, bouillabaisse, and gumbo. Some found the food and service mediocre and overpriced.

Evangeline Calistoga Reviews
Outstanding service, great ambiance and the food is amazing. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars, just order the Lobser rissoto and thank me later. The depth of flavor in that dish is beyond words. Pork shoulder is great but the risotto is better. Winner winner lobster dinner.
Exceptional service! Every single member of the staff went above and beyond. I visited California from Ohio for a short, 24-hour trip. Initially, I came here for lunch and because their service was so great, I came back for dinner! Food A+ Service A++++ Friendly Advice… Make a reservation if you wish to utilize the outdoor patio seating.
People are incredibly friendly and polite. The food and drinks are delicious. My wife had the king salmon and I had the pork shoulder. We had a grilled avocado on bread for an appetizer that was OK. The patio is very private and there is a ton of jasmine growing in the trellis which makes everything smell wonderful.
Food was exceptional. Service was top notch. Ambiance was 10/10. Great place. Bring your wife, bring your date, bring your side piece. No matter what you will be impressed.
Oh my gosh... Probably the most quaint place we ate in Calistoga! Such a great atmosphere and the food was incredible!!! The service was so friendly that we felt like family and although we had intended to come back the next day plans got in our way... It was our loss for sure!
Evangeline, Calistoga: A Meal That Rattled the Rankings By the time the sesame-crusted ahi tuna arrived, I had already made a quiet, internal note — This place is special. But by the end of the meal, that note had turned into a full-throated declaration: Evangeline just delivered one of the best meals I’ve ever had in Sonoma County — and I’ve eaten everywhere. The tuna was a masterclass in balance. Thick-cut and expertly seared, its sesame crust offered a delicate crunch that gave way to the supple richness of the fish itself — a texture that felt closer to ceremony than cuisine. But it was what surrounded the tuna that elevated the dish to near mythic: a green papaya mango salad that was vibrant and tart, whispering tropical brightness into every bite; house-made rice noodles, gently tangled beneath, soaked in a sweet Mae Ploy sauce that dared to be decadent without overpowering; a subtle yuzu vinaigrette that shimmered with citrusy restraint; and a final sweep of herb oil, as if the plate had been kissed by a hillside garden. Paired with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc — bright, grassy, alive — the entire experience felt choreographed, not served. And then came dessert. Let me tell you, I have sipped many espresso martinis. Most of them try too hard or taste like they gave up halfway through. But this one? This one was deeply layered, lush with coffee and vanilla, a texture that lingered like the last note of a Nina Simone song. It was the perfect partner to a truly stunning bread pudding — rich but never heavy, warmly spiced, finished with a caramel that didn’t beg for attention, only earned it. There are meals that satisfy, and then there are meals that rewrite the rankings — meals that whisper to you on the drive home and shift the way you’ll measure everything that follows. Tonight, Evangeline did that. In a region where the bar is already sky-high, Evangeline didn’t just meet the standard — it made me rethink it.
So, this place is really good. Attentive staff, nice atmosphere....but the food...it's incredible. The shrimp etueffe was as good or better than I ever had. The grilled avocado with bread, amazing, the fresh dressing on the salad, light and full of flavor. Well worth going to!! Also the best sangria I have ever had.
Calistoga is full of wonderful places and this is one of them. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful and perfect place for a romantic dinner within a mile or walking distance from the nearby Inns. The staff are always on top of everything with excellent customer service. The aged steak I ordered was way better than expected. If I start dating this place will be on my list lol.
We love coming to this charming patio restaurant every time we are in Napa valley. Extremely friendly staff, well priced and delicious food -not to mention great cocktails. I had the halibut and my husband had steak frites and both were amazing! We started with the peach appetizer and had a delicious panna cotta for dessert. Our favorite spot in Calistoga!
The customer service was excellent. I didn't sit down and order, I ordered mine to go. I ordered the salmon. The crispy top on the salmon was delicious and the salmon was not overcooked or dry. The sauce that came with the salmon set it off! The crispy Brussel sprouts were also a nice side dish to compliment the salmon (the Brussel sprouts were enough to share with two people). The salmon itself comes with a salad-- it was very delicious.
We found this place just pure luck. Amazing service and wonderful food. Probably the best Bouillabaisse I had over a long time. Not only it was prepared very tastefully, but also served with the right temperature. Excellent dish! The service was so wonderful and the manager also made sure that every guest was taken care of. Don’t miss this place!
Small local restaurant recommended by local. It was beyond expectation! Wagyu beef burger and fries were excellent. The dipping sauces yummy. Seafood cioppino was mind blowing good. One of the best ones I had for a long time. So much flavors in one small scope of sauce. The sauce in the bowl was completely cleaned with the included poppy seed rye bread and fries from the burger. The house sangria had lots of tropical flavors. Very pleasant dining experience and worth the hype. I appreciate the kitchen has a lot of passion serving quality dishes. Updated 10-20-2024: Excellent brunch with friendly service. The butternut squash soup was wonderful, love the temperature heat and texture of the soup. Dungeness crab cakes had good flavors pairing with pickle cucumber salad. The beet salad and calamari with shrimp were also quite tasty. Outdoor sitting was comfortable despite fighting a few eager flies to taste our food. A solid restaurant to return to.
One of those locally owned restaurants you MUST TRY! Everything from the Tedeschi Pinot to the French Onion Soup to the Shrimp Ettoufe was beyond excellent! Staff was friendly, service was top notch, and the owner, Sasan, even took time to chat! WONDERFUL MEAL!
The food was delicious, we were a bit cold out on the patio for dinner when it was like 45 degrees outside and they didn’t offer us inside seating which I thought was odd. Our favorite dish was the gumbo but we also got a very delicious salad. The ingredients were fresh, the food was wonderful, the pours were very generous. I would happily visit again but I recommend wearing layers and being prepared for cold!
Friendly and attentive staff on a quiet Sunday evening. The squash blossoms were delicious, the risotto and pork chop both fantastic! Would definitely eat here again next time I'm in town.
My first experience in a creole restaurant, I ended up feeling that I should have asked for some recommendations to have a more authentic experience. Generally, we had a great experience in the patio for dinner. The weather was brilliant. The waiter was very nice and attentious. My cocktail incognito felt amazing with some passion fruit. We had a great mix of flavours with our melon starter. I had a steak but asked for gratin potato instead of fries, which was really tasteful, the fish was also on point. In the end, I had an apple crisp which I thought that I was not going to finish but ended up finishing it as it was quite nice.
Delicious food, courteous and attentive staff, and a fun space for any size gathering. My steak (frites) was overcooked, and as soon as I let our fabulous waiter know he whisked it away and brought back a new plate within minutes. Overall a wonderful experience. If you're in to absinth, go all in with a pour and ice water drip. We've had our fair share of absinth over the years and this is the first time we had the pleasure of having it mixed in front of us. A moment to remember!
Wow! This was such an excellent experience! Some of the best food we've had in Napa in the month we've been here. We had the shrimp etouffee and braised lamb, which was better than the iterations of those dishes we had in New Orleans itself. It was a very cozy patio, which I bet would be fantastic for brunch.
We wandered in for a night cap, sat at the bar and enjoyed a perfectly made cocktail with bourbon and absynth and added a creamy caramel dessert. It was a fun stop, we'll eat there next visit

Just a gorgeous, quaint spot with fantastic food. And their playlist was perfect
Visiting from Chicago, we stumbled upon Evangeline and had a wonderful experience. We split a seasonal pear salad and a seared tuna with green papaya and mango with rice noodles accompanied by a lovely French Chenin blanc with a pot de crème caramel to finish things off. The setting was superb, the vibe was sublime, and we left with smiles on our faces and joy in our hearts.
The Duck Leg Confit Cassoulet is divine (new addition) and the Pasta Bolognese is always a great choice! We are locals here in Calistoga and this is one of our favorite spots! And their cocktail menu is fun and delicious! The outside patio has a great atmosphere no matter the weather, highly recommended!

We dined here as newly weds the evening after our elopement wedding. The staff was so thoughtful and gifted us a drink. I loved the outdoor seating - it was spaced out so you felt that you could have private conversations and you felt safe. there were cute patio lights and heaters to keep you warm. We got the steak and the burger. It was alright. The food came really quickly.
Food was good but unremarkable. Solid place but it seemed like it could be so more. The atmosphere and outdoor location are great.
Evangeline is a classic French Bistro where you will find all the staples: from Chicken & Waffles to French Onion Soup. All of the menus (Brunch, Lunch, Dinner) feature dishes you would definitely expect at a French Bistro restaurant, but I did find the Brunch menu to be a bit lacking when it came to starters and cocktails. Regardless of the small variety, I would highly recommend the Grapefruit Paloma which is a perfect way to quench your thirst in the Calistoga heat. I do have to note that the prices for some of the dishes are not competitive when looking at some other similar restaurants in the surrounding area. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor area that is perfect for any occasion; just fair warning - there is a good amount of flies and bees around so if you are allergic/scared, then I would definitely recommend sitting inside. This is definitely one of the better restaurants in downtown Calistoga.
Seared Hokkaido Scallop 4 super juicy large scallops, crispy yellow parsnip strips & light creamy puree, refreshing pomegranate touch French Onion Soup 3 cheesy topping, soggy croutons, slightly sour Shrimp Etouffee 4 large juicy shrimp, white rice, hush puppies (deep fried yellow grain balls), mildly spicy, flavorful Braised Neiman Ranch Pork Shoulder 2 slightly dry pork, sour braised cabbage, roasted apple, mustard puree Panna Cotta 4 light, creamy, syrupy blueberries, not too sweet
The entrees and drinks were really delicious and for that I'm glad I came. However when it came time for dessert it took 30 minutes to come out while we sat at the table with no drinks or food left, and nobody coming to check on us. When it came out, the apple tarte still had the produce sticker in it. I guess that's how you know it's fresh? Still feels dirty they didn't remove the sticker when (hopefully) washing the apples and it made its way to my table. The baguette appetizer was also really hard, as well as the butter making it impossible to spread.
Came here with three others. My pork tenderloin dish was excellent. Friends got the étouffée, bouillabaisse, sesame crusted ahi, autumn pear salad (very good) and they were all pleased, but I seemed to enjoy my pork the most. We split one choc lava cake for dessert. Service was friendly, slow waiting for the dessert, but otherwise timely. A solid place to dine; I’ll be back again for another go at the pork tenderloin…
Fastest service ever! We were in and out in 50 mins and we did not feel rushed at all! We had reservations but arrived about half hour early and they seated us right away. After ordering our food, we had just about made trips to the bathroom before the food showed up! We ordered the fried chicken and waffles, prosciutto Benedict, avocado toast and the Evangeline burger. Everything was really good! I would've liked the avocado toast to be a little bigger or come with a side to be more filling. The rye bread it came on was a little bit sweet and matched the greens, avocado and the egg. The egg comes runny Benedict style so if you don't like that, please tell your server to switch it. I should've but I had it any way! The chicken was crispy and came with gravy to accompany. The prosciutto Benedict was very good with the exception of quite a lot of kale which my friend doesn't like a lot. The burger was delicious but definitely the biggest of the plates. The fries that came with it were delicious, particularly with the rosemary and thyme. We also got the grapefruit mimosas which were well-made. All in all, a beautiful day to have brunch and we really liked our food. And of course, the service!
Service was a little slow, but we were there on Thanksgiving night so it's understandable. Food was great. Resturant was very cold, but cute nonetheless.

Unique vibe with tasty entrees. There was a strange smell, but it was more related to outside elements than to the restaurant. The service was top-notch.

Just an average place. Look for a different place. There are many much better places out there. The first and most important thing about this restaurant. They sell a $75 steak special, and they are serving it with french fries. When asked if you could substitute for something else.... the answer is no. The chef paired it with french fries, so it can't be substituted. The chef needs to realize that people that drink 200...300 dollar wine don't want french fries. They want a sophisticated meal. The duck confit with prunes was about 4 stars, so it was good. The zucchini squash mixture with the burrata was terrible. The burrata itself was good. They charged me 20 dollars for corkage after the waiter snapped the cork in half.... had to "salvage" the wine... and we had to drink $250 dollar bottle of vino with cork floating in it. Overall, the place is close to 2... but i will give them 3 to be nice.
Rated 3 for the following 2 reasons: 1. priced way too high. Not aure if this is the norm for basic food in this city. 2. I ordered the $25 dollar burger and excited for my wagu beef but extremely disappointed in the flavor. To add to my disappointment, they did not take it off the bill even though i sent back. I would not recommend the burger. The positives: good outdoor ambiance, 8 dollar beers (only 2 selections, one pilsner and 1 IPA). Delicious seafood pasta. Tasty fries and fried Chicken.
This was an extremely underwhelming experience. The ambiance was cute, but they stuck us in a corner on the patio that was a bit crunched for space and where the heat lamp was out. The baguette was not warm and was not at all notable - unlike the breads we had at nearby restaurants Lovina and Sam’s. The olives were too salty, the burger over cooked, and the fries boring. The service was unremarkable and their drink menu had no mocktails - when we asked for one they offered lemonade. My friend’s lamb and potatoes were super bland. I don’t think any of the food here would be offensive, but nothing at all that we tried was remotely exciting. I think if you’re going to have a menu full of classics, they need to be cooked to perfection. And this just didn’t hit the mark.
Quick Summary: This restaurant is a bit of a mixed bag. The venue is beautiful and welcoming, but the food is inconsistent, which is unfortunate. Let me explain. We ordered the Fried brussel sprouts for a starter and entrees Roasted Mary's Chicken & the steak frites. The fried brussel sprouts were delicious! Plain and simple. They come with a side of lemon aoli, which I found to be an odd pairing as it tasted too acidic and the two didn't go together well with the buttery brussel sprouts in my opinion. I still recommend this one. Just ignore the aoli. The Roasted chicken was delicious as well! The chicken had great flavor and was very moist. It comes with mashed potatoes and carrots with a very savory sauce which goes perfectly with everything in the dish! The steak frites was a mess, however. The meat had absolutely no flavor, I suspect it wasn't seasoned at all. The sauce it comes with is chimichurri, which is an odd choice being a French restaurant. Unfortunately, the sauce was lacking salt and garlic. Also, this chimichurri was heavy on the oregano. I prefer no oregano or less oregano than parsley in the blend, since oregano is a much more aromatic herb. It was not a good chimichurri. The fries were dry and, again, tasteless. A bit stale too, like they had been made hours before we ordered them. They felt like the frozen kind. The microgreens didn't go with the dish. It just didn't blend well with other flavors. Everything just tasted bland and the Herby notes like oregano and microgreens stood out too much instead of the flavor of the steak. I don't recommend this dish! The service was good and the ambiance was welcoming, but unfortunately the menu felt like a gamble. You don't know which dish is going to be good, and which is going to be odd and tasteless. Too inconsistent. Also, the prices are fairly high for the amount of inconsistencies in the food, odd pairing of flavors and just underseasoned food. I do not recommend this place unless you already know which dishes are good and which are not. Lastly, this was my first time in the Napa region which is known for its wine and food, and this happened to be my first restaurant experience in the region. Needless to say I had high expectations and it's unfortunate it wasn't a great one.

This place is fine for what it is. The food was decent but not exceptional. I had the evangeline steak which I ordered medium rare but it was a little more well done than I expected. Service was very good and attentive. The seating outside was fine. We had a slightly larger party, and we had a reservation but they did not try to get us on the same table which is kind of odd considering the restaurant wasn't full.

Just picked up the fried chicken with three sides for the concert in the park. The chicken is so dry it’s hard to eat without choking. We asked for dark meat and got mostly dry white breast. The peach, heirloom salad is lovely. The pasta is tasteless and the street corn is impossible to eat without making a mess. For nearly $80. we’re very disappointed and will not recommend or return.
We arrived on time for our reservation and waited a long time before anyone came to the host stand. I booked this over another restaurant because the reservation didn’t say anything about outside or inside seating and assumed we would sit inside. Most of the seating is outdoors either on a patio or a covered/enclosed area with plenty of heat lamps. We had a reservation and they said the table wasn’t ready when in fact, it was, my fiancé saw on the map that our table wasn’t ready second of 5 and there were 2 empty tables in the second position of 5 tables. It took a while to get waters and eventually our server came to take our drink order but left before we could add our apps. My glass of wine was so large and full I couldn’t swirl it due to the volume of liquid (a good thing, I suppose). She took our order and we got the gem salad and fries and I asked to try another sauce. The gem salad was small and plain and the fries were good but they gave us about a tablespoon of the sauce I ordered on the side (Louis sauce on the burger, yum, it was like mayo with pickles and a sprinkle of paprika). After 20 minutes they came out to inform us the gumbo yaya was sold out, didn’t bring a menu and asked my fiancé to pick something else. After being there for over and hour 8:50pm we still didn’t have our food. They brought out the food and it was good. The halibut was cooked well and served over salty beans, the pearl onions were yummy. It turns out there was a miscommunication about what my partner ordered and he got a $69 steak instead of the short ribs. The steak came with grilled asparagus and potato gratin cake, but the potatoes were not fully cooked. This is on us, but we were honestly none the wiser that we ordered the wrong thing. We were shocked when the bill came back so high. By the way, we ordered fries $8 on the menu and they charged us $11 dollars for them. Despite the error on the steak they refused to reduce the price. There was no bread service either. Maybe I was just hangry and we had a disappointing experience.

Definitely wouldn't recommend it. It is over priced for mediocre food & service. The Rissoto was a cheesy rice sludge that I couldn't even eat. The Etouffee was some scampi, didn't resemble etouffee at all. Our Sangria cocktails were tasteless & the 2 of us who ordered that had to send them back. In that price range, we expected service, not just food delivery to our table. It worked out to be about $60 (all inclusive) for a drink & a main! This would have been a normal price if the food & service had been good.

Fried chicken is terrible, though i managed to finished it. The table behind me send back their fried chicken. Our Pasta is not great either. Only the salad is tasty.
