This is a truly special place to eat. Great service, cozy location, and spectacular food. French onion soup was the best we've ever had. Goat cheese frites were out of this world. Everything else matched. Well done in every way! We can't wait to return

My first time in Canandaigua, for work, I came in for dinner and ate at the bar by myself. All the staff were super friendly and attentive. Fabulous drinks and amazing food. The escargot were perfect and the duck was just like butter. The bread pudding was so good, I got one to go for my husband.

In a world where everything is homogenized… this little place has held onto its authenticity. The food is delicious and properly portioned. The staff very evidently enjoy each other’s company (and do this on the side) and it shows. And George is a character barré none. I recommend sitting at the bar. I had two nights in Canandaigua and moved my second evening res from Nolan’s to this happy little spot to bring my family out for a guaranteed great evening. (I enjoyed lamb, the bar tenders wine recommendation, and the bread pudding). Cheers!

Highly highly recommend trying this lovely place out, food was too notch - the most perfectly cooked scallops I've ever had! There was a bit of a hiccup as we called to push our reservation but unfortunately it wasn't communicated to other staff so our seats were given away however within 10 minutes we had an even better table than the original! The owners were just fantastic and made the experience one to remember!

Party of 5, appetizers ordered were octopus (a special). It was decent, tender but I've had a better prepared dish. Needed more char though the potatoes underneath were perfect. The entrees were the star of the show: two orders of shrimp with vodka sauce and the chef and waiter were accommodating enough to allow us to add chicken. I've never had a better vodka sauce. Amazing. One of our party had the chicken gorgonzola, loved it. The other two dishes were the salmon risotto and the scallops. Both top of the line. I've eaten all over the world and those dishes were among the best. I would say the bread provided was almost unnecessary. Small and not impressive. But the service, owner, ambience and main dinners were as good as it gets. I'll be returning soon. Update: visited again and was outstanding once more. Bouillabaisse was amazing but I really want to amend my previous critique of the bread: it was wonderful this time. They added garlic, rosemary seasoning which was delightful. So good!

What a gem! One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The service was on point — attentive but never intrusive. I had the lamb chops, which were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My sister had the Linguine Picante and loved it. We finished with the crème brûlée, which looked almost too good to eat and tasted amazing. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Went here tonight and staff were very friendly. Bartender/waiter assisted me with dinner selections. I chose the French onion soup and beef bourguignon. Because I have ordered A LOT of French onion soup throughout the country (as it’s my favorite) I always ask “Is this the best French onion soup in the world?” I was told that it was. I would say it was second best I have had. Considering the best is no longer an option for me (restaurant burned down), I suppose he was right. Beef bourguignon was delicious and tender. Very rich and different than others I have had. Not a super big fan of the mashed potatoes. If you like them lumpy, you’ll love them. I’m more of a whipped kind of girl. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner greatly and will return again when I’m in town.

My husband and I were in Canandaigua for a work-related trip. We were fortunate enough to get reservations at Bon Ami. The ambiance was absolutely lovely. The soup of the day was clam chowder, and it was one of the best clam chowders I've ever had outside of the New England area. We received welcomed recommendations on the food and wine pairings. The sauces on my husband's lamb and on my duck entrees were just perfect. There were several occasions where the staff checked up on us to ensure that the food and drink was satisfactory. We cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

Update: October 2023: A Friday evening dinner and it was fabulous. This quaint restaurant brings the heart of France to Canandaigua. The owners are very kind. The French rose was delicious as well as the linguine. A delightful visit visiting friends. We visited here on our 15th wedding anniversary. Figured it would be perfect as Paris is the City of Love, right? Any way, food was good, even had a burger for our son. Drinks were good- then orange martini fantastic. Our waitress was Emily (I believe that was her name), she was fabulous. Worth a try.

What a fantastic place! The food was exceptional and our server was top notch. The owners are on site to oversee everything and stopped by the table to chat and make sure all their customers were happy. Make sure to order the French onion soup!

So happy to discover this little gem last night. Cocktails were made to perfection. Ratatouille inpuff pastry appetizer was delicious as were the seared scallops for dinner. But best of all was the service and atmosphere. Very welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to returning!

This place is AMAZING!! The owners and wait staff are warm, friendly, and helpful. The decor is beautiful, classic French bistro style. The cocktails, selection of French wines, and espresso are all delicious. The food, though, completely stole the show! We had the most tender, flavorful escargot to start, alongside a delicious baguette with garlic butter, followed by bouillabaisse for him and salmon tapenade for me. The flavors in the bouillabaisse are deep and complex, while the seafood is light, flaky, and tender. The salmon was cooked to a perfect medium, just slightly translucent in the middle, served with crisp and tender asparagus and an unctuous warm orzo pasta salad. We finished our meal with espresso because we couldn't eat another bite, but we'll definitely try some of the amazing-sounding desserts next time. Will definitely be back again soon!!

Having finished a day trip in the Finger Lakes region, I happened up Bon Ami. I had the galette de champignon, and the power bowl. Both were delicious. Not only was the food delicious, and service prompt, but the hostess and waitresses were all extremely, and genuinely friendly. It is definitely one of the best dining experiences that I've ever had. I did dine outside, but I did want to mention that I loved the ambiance inside. I will definitely return to Bon Ami some time. It was a much needed enjoyable experience in these insane times.

First of all, this is Brian, Pam's husband who is writing this review. Second, everything below is the same as my original review but I raised my rating from 3 stars to 4 because the owner replied promply to my review and acknowledged the issue. I was inclined to give the experience a 4. My wife strongly suggested a 3. So we compromised and 3 it is. And while I gave the service only 4 stars, that does not reflect upon our waitress but upon what you will read below if you care to go on. We've been to Bon Ami before and truly enjoyed the experience. I recall our first visit there with friends early on a weekend night. The food was excellent and the service attentive. We relaxed and had good drinks and wine with our food and spent a pleasant few hours. Last evening was a bit of a difference. We had an early reservation, 6:15. For a weeknight, the restaurant was about half full at that time. And as with other comments you'll read here, there is clearly a contingent of older locals that the owners know and greet warmly. As with our first experience, the food was wonderful. The farcous is always our favorite. I probably could make a meal of three of those appetizers. The branzino special was prepared very well and it's nice to have it served as a filet and not have to pick at tiny bones as is the case with so many other restaurants. I opted for the linguine picante and it was a wonderful dish. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce accompanying the shrimp and mussels was spiced absolutely perfectly (the waitress did politely ask beforehand if it was okay that the dish was spicy). So why only three stars? First of all, to catch the owners' attention so they recognize what they did not do well. We were rushed, plain and simple.. Instead of the relaxing meal we anticipated, we were in and out of the restaurant within an hour - that's with two drinks each, appetizer, salad, main course, and dessert (the Pistachio cake is to die for and I'm not a cake fan). At about 7:10 when we left, all of the tables were full but there were still a few open seats at the bar. No one waiting for a table but our check was attempted to be picked up three times - once by the waitress and then once by each of the owners. It was clear that they were trying very hard to turn the table. In fact, when we got up to leave the remaining drink glasses were whisked away as I said thank you to the owner. There is something to be said for quick service. But this isn't Chili's . . . I've spent time in my younger days in French bistros in France as well as imitations here in the U.S. and always relished the friendly atmosphere where you were allowed to linger and enjoy good food and drink. I realize that this is a small restaurant and that they have to do what they can to turn tables and make the most of a weekday evening but to rush a nice mean, over $110 per person with tip? That's simply not appropriate. I think we'll be going back to Kix sooner than I anticipated.

The food was fine but really nothing special. I don't remember the last time I saw mandarin oranges in a salad. My husband's steak was kind of tough despite being rare. The one thing we both liked was the French onion soup.
