There’s absolutely NO reason this place shouldn’t be rated 5 stars!! Let me start by saying my spouse and I used to go to a rise in Richmond VA and this location in Carrboro made them look as if they didn’t know what they were doing (and they were good in Richmond). From the flaky biscuits, the flavor of the chicken, the boom boom sauce, TO DIEEE FOR! And everything is fresh so yes you’ll have to walk but it’s worth the wait. The manager here was super communicative and friendly the atmosphere is super aesthetic. I wanted to gatekeep this location but don’t walk there RUN!!! 100/10 can’t wait to go back!
This is good stuff! I loved the hot honey chicken biscuit. The blueberry biscuit was tasty too. I also had an icy drink of the sweet tea - and it hit the spot. The chicken was tender - I ate it too quick - LOL 😁🤣👍🏾. The establishment has an order at the kiosk- like register. The service was good and I enjoyed the outdoor seating. The patio was clean and I was able to do some cool exploring by just looking while I ate because the outdoor patio is right off the main road. I recommend this establishment.
Best breakfast sandwiches, very affordable. Strong group of friendly employee's. Efficient storefront with kiosk ordering with to-go compartments convenient for on the go ordering. Small dining area. Outstanding restaurant team Carrboro!! I love my Latin and Hispanic staff. They truly take the care with my Bacon, Egg, and cheese biscuits. Biscuits to go as well (Bundle those biscuits) ** Save $. A cheddar buscuit goes great with eggs at home any day if you can't make it to the store. I live on breakfast, SO, this has become a staple for me, wrapped in a warm buttermilk Biscuit, perfect bacon, and LOVE. As I love your food. I absolutely FEEL the love. I can tell everytime. "Thank You, I Love You". "With Great Food, Come Tremendous Responsibility." -Spider Man Carrboro's "Rise" Biscuit Cafe answer's the call. Let's Roll!!
Super quick and delicious! These are the best biscuits I’ve had in a while and their righteous chicken is great too. The cheddar biscuit isn’t gummy at all- just super flaky and light. The chunks of cheddar are baked so they’re sort of hard, but it adds a great flavor! I got their righteous chicken biscuit and a vanilla donut for less than $10. It came out within a few minutes and it seemed like they had quite a few orders to fulfill.
Great biscuit sandwiches! Quick breakfast or lunch spot with sitting outside. Definitely recommend and will be back. I was sad that they do not have iced sweet tea there. Is it NC?well, they had prepackaged honest iced tea. The only drawback is parking. I don't see any lots directly attached to the place, but there are public parking lots nearby. I was walking, so maybe there are spots in the back of the building. But food is really great.
Everything here was delicious! I had several different types of donuts and they each added something to my soul. I also got a biscuit which was good but the friend I went with ordered it with way to much stuff on it so that messed it up a bit but the ingredients were great. Eggplant Biscuit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crème Brûlée Donut ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Apple Fritter ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cinnamon Twist ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Delicious southern biscuit place where you may recognize some menu items from other breakfast chains, but note these are done scratch made. Interesting side options including fried okra, cheese grits and pimento cheese. Sweet treats include beignets, doughnuts and blueberry biscuits.
Great chicken biscuit. The cheddar cheese in the biscuit makes it delicious! The servings for their cheesy-tots are kinda small, but they are good. Overall, good food even if it is a bit expensive. Would also be nice if they had more indoor seating...
My experience with them since day one is always spectacular! They have an amazing crew food is phenomenal and the service is fast!!😘🫶🙏🤤
Jacob was very helpful and welcoming. I came in for the cheesy Mac & Cheese on a biscuit and got a pleasant visit at this location too. Keep up the great goings on!
Glad to see Rise doing well and growing all over the country. Well earned success. Their chicken boxes are unmatched. Biggest, juiciest cuts of chicken with very little breading.
Easy to order from the app. Food was ready when I arrived to pick it up. The staff was very friendly. And the food tasted great.
Absolutely outstanding experience! Today was my first time going to Rise. I was blown away by the level of service- the staff were so helpful and knowledgeable, efficiency of process, the cleanliness of the restaurant and the prices were unbelievably reasonable. I just finished my breakfast and the food was equally outstanding. I have a busy day ahead but I am so impressed that I had to take a moment to share this amazing establishment with the community. If you haven't been to Rise, I would highly recommend stopping in. You won't be disappointed.
We had a 5-star experience, dining with another couple for dinner. Nice variety of food on the menu, good drink choices, professional and capable service. Two of us had very tasty pasta dishes, one had gnocchi, one the duck. Duck serving was on the small side. Shrimp pasta could have used a couple more. Bread costs $$. Broccolini and sweet potato appetizers were very good. We were stuffed but managed to enjoy a couple of desserts, too! Ambience is comfortable, not too loud, conversation was easy.
Oakleaf delivered an extraordinary dining experience that transformed my birthday into something truly special. From the moment we arrived, the warmth and thoughtfulness of Chef Brendan Cox and his team shone through – they surprised me with complimentary sparkling wine and a handwritten birthday card complete with a lit candle, setting the tone for an evening of exceptional hospitality. We indulged in the 5-course tasting menu, and every dish was a revelation. The journey began with an amuse-bouche of perfectly crispy tempura shrimp, followed by an exquisite tuna crudo bathed in a sauce that achieved the perfect balance of flavors. The goat cheese ravioli that came next was pure comfort – pillowy pasta enveloping creamy cheese in a rich, deeply flavorful sauce that had us savoring every bite. The snapper filet was cooked to perfection, but the true showstopper was the steak crowned with foie gras – an absolutely decadent combination where the buttery richness of the foie gras melted into the tender, perfectly seasoned beef. Each bite was an explosion of umami and luxury. The meal concluded beautifully with a palate-cleansing blueberry-lime sorbet that was intensely flavored and refreshing, followed by a delightful cheesecake with crumble that provided the perfect sweet ending. The wine pairing deserves special mention – we enjoyed a bottle of Frappato, a Sicilian red that Chef Cox personally discovered during his travels in Italy. It's these personal touches that put Oakleaf beyond typical fine dining. Service throughout the evening was impeccable – attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable without being pretentious, and genuinely friendly. Fresh cutlery appeared with each course, and our server's recommendations and descriptions enhanced our appreciation of each dish. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance of elegant and comfortable, with warm lighting creating an intimate ambiance that makes you want to linger. While the tasting menu was phenomenal, I must also recommend their "Dirt Candy" – a celebration of local vegetables that showcases the kitchen's creativity and commitment to local ingredients. It's become a must-order for us on every visit. Oakleaf isn't just a meal; it's an experience that lingers in your memory long after the last bite. Chef Brendan Cox and his talented team have created something special in Chapel Hill / Carrboro – a restaurant that combines technical excellence with genuine hospitality. Best if all, even when things don't go perfectly (its happened once before to me): They own it and will make things right no matter what. And that's... priceless!
Overall a great experience. The service was great. Cocktails were delicious although I am not a fan of small ice cubes in a liquor drink. The pork belly and burrata small plates are incredible. My NY Strip was cooked perfectly but lacked a little flavor. All in all, amazing local ingredients and well crafted menu.
11/10 would recommend their vegan tasting menu! They source fresh, local, seasonal ingredients and create food art for each course. I loved sitting outside on their patio with lots of fresh herbs planted by the tables. I am a vegan private chef in Denver and definitely make time to stop here any time I am in NC. Such a treat!!
Fantastic, flavourful dinner in a low-light environment. Ambient and perfect for conversation. Please get an order of focaccia for every two people. It is exceptional and elevates the rest of the dishes. The EVOO is a highlight, the focaccia is warm and moist yet has an impressive crisp. It has a subtle garlic flavour on top because they added slices of roasted garlic. It’s a gorgeous thing, really. Appetizer highlights were Fois Gras (wow.), “Il toast” and farro. The fois gras had an incredible sauce (I think a red wine reduction ?) that was beautiful with the focaccia. The summer salad was cold and it was awkwardly brought out during our second set of appetizers. In the future, I think it should be brought out first. The mussels were good, but mostly because of the toast underneath and the sauces. Dirt candy was nice and one of the best cost-for-volume deals on the menu. The pistachio pesto is lovely. It’s just missing some spice or a meaningful kick. Just tasted like roasted veg, not much more. We ordered 3 pastas for 4 people and I think that was 1 too many. They called them “half sized” but I really think they were regular upscale dining pasta sized ! Maybe 80% size? Anyway, the Pappardelle is a must. Especially, and I repeat for emphasis, with the focaccia. I thought the tagliatelle had too much lemon (it was unbalanced). And then that the agnolotti was lacking some acidity and spice… however, the pasta itself is clearly crafted with care and the ingredients feel delicious and fresh. For the mains we split the scallops and the duck. Both were nice! Scallops etc were very fresh, but again, lacking a little kick or depth of flavour (maybe some lemon?). The duck was great. My one picky thing is they mayo sauce was too strong in that it distracted from the other flavours. For dessert we went with the cheesecake (highlight), chocolate - tart - type - thing (good, would be better with dark / richer chocolates), peanut butter gelato (meh) and coffee (honestly it tasted like a not good Americano…). I was still happy with how we ended the meal! It was delish and a perfect quench to my sweet tooth. Overall, in terms of food, this restaurant shines in the small plates. Order more of those and less of the pasta/mains. We also had wine throughout and it was really nice. Despite the food being a great success (many 10/10 dishes and several 9/10 with some 7/10’s), I was disappointed with our server. She did not seem interested in serving us at all, she forgot to bring sparkling water but did bring wine, she recorded the wrong pasta order, and took our desert order without specifying which gelato we wanted, so she essentially chose the flavour for us. It felt a little dismissive and rushed and judgemental. She made us feel pressed to order more wine. And finally, it felt a little bit difficult to get her attention. She was nice, and it was fine service (especially given how busy the restaurant was), but it did feel like she didn’t like us and was choosing to be less attentive. Not warm and welcoming like the food or ethos. Nonetheless, don’t let that discourage you. This is a wonderful spot for a memorable, wholesome meal. I had a great evening.
I had one of my top three meals in the Triangle at this restaurant. Everything about it was impeccable. The service was great. The cocktail menu was inventive (And if you like spicy ask for something with a ghost pepper tincture). The menu possesses a nice range, And I love that the portion sizes are small enough you can order more than one thing. The squash salad was one of the best appetizers I've ever had. The bartender talked me into dessert, and it was worth every calorie.
Pricey, yes. Delicious, yes. Don't go if you aren't willing to spend a small fortune, but the chef's menu (5 courses for $75) was absolutely delicious, unique, and well-balanced and the wine pairings were on point. There are some less expensive options if you go with the regular menu.
Nice place for a casual but excellent meal to celebrate my big 4-0. They did not have a tasting menu as others suggested. However, the service was excellent as was the music. The lettuce salad was fantastic, the butter for the bread was perfectly salted, and the bolognese was very good. This is the best pasta I've had outside of the upper east coast. I recommend this spot for celebrating a special occasion or if you are just craving good pasta.
It’s great to dine at a restaurant where the food is created and cooked - not just heated up. High quality ingredients, clever combinations of spices and herbs, and very low sodium so you can add salt to your liking. A nice fusion of down-to-earth and honest food with a clever touch. The kids meals are healthy - but at 10$ priced on the high side. Some fleur de sel and a pepper mill on the table would have rounded up the good impression.
I recently visited Rise for the first time. I ordered a Southern Chicken Sandwich. The savory flavors of pimento cheese and bacon melded nicely with its buttermilk biscuit ‘bun’. The only real drawback was the price point. At nearly $10 ($8.75 + tax), it felt a bit steep. I compensated by taking small bites (so it would last longer) and let the cheerfully cute retro industrial decor do its thing. 😉 Overall, I had a pretty good experience. Note: Out of curiosity, I checked historical menu pricing…fwiw, this item is up 32% from the $6.65 price around four years ago. (Boo, inflation.)
I’ve been going to Rise for years, since before their not-so-recent restaurant remodeling. AMAZING biscuit sandwiches. My favorite is the Nashville hot (veg) chicken, but you can’t go wrong with most the options on the menu. It is a little pricey but the taste and quality backs it up. The donuts are on par though, not notable. They have an online order or kiosk order-only system, no person at a cash register.
WOW! The biscuits (all flavors) are amazing! They were extremely soft and buttery on the inside, not flaky and dry like other places. The coffee tasted like typical coffee. I got the biscuit and gravy, which had an open face biscuit, 1 sausage and was smothered in gravy. Very tasty, but it was more expensive than the sandwich. The sandwich was delicious and I would probably get this next time, since it had egg, cheese, and bacon. 4 stars because the doughnuts did not impress. The glazed was okay but the creme brulee was slightly disappointing. I wished they would have put more cream inside. Would go for biscuits and meals, skip on the doughnuts next time!
Good for breakfast sandwiches! A grab-n-go place with two side tables and a few outdoor tables. Coffee is $3 for 16oz. No other sizes. Bacon Egg Cheese Biscuit was very good.
Such a cute American / pasta restaurant!! Definitely get the corn pasta if it’s available. Also the server team is incredible. A little price for the portion sizes, but I’ve been ~3 times and it’s always such a good experience. Their fish / seafood has been a little disappointing, but everything else is great!!
We came here for a dinner with friends. The food was pretty good and there was a nice variety of choices. The cocktails were tasty. I do wish there was more consistency between the portion sizes on the meals and appetizers. Pasta was very small and expensive vs some of the other mains. We will probably be back to try it again.
Went here with some friends on a Saturday night recently and overall we were disappointed. The server acted like she was in general not interested in being there, and had no recommendations at all from the menu. The wine pours were sooooo small and the food portions were also equally tiny and not amazing. If you’re going to charge $30 for pasta, it better be amazing. Well, it wasn’t. Nice atmosphere but definitely would not recommend or return.
The service was bad. The waitress never pour us the wine we ordered and we had to ask for water several times. We ordered several appetizers (autumn salad, oysters, burrata, baguette) and all of them were very ok. Burrata was fresh, but the size was super small, the oysters were fried and flavor was just very oily, and the salad missed character and nuts! Regarding the entrees, we ordered the duck and halibut. Both were better than the appetizers, but lacked flavor and character. The only amazing dish was the pappardelle. There are so many good restaurants in the area, that I don’t think it’s worth coming back.
The hot honey chicken biscuit was good. The blueberry biscuit was ok. The biscuit cinnamon roll was overworked (tough) cold and dry. Surprising because it used the same dough as the biscuits. I remember going to a Rise location in Durham years ago and they had amazing doughnuts and really great food. The visit today was just sad in comparison. The doughnuts they had very few of looked like someone picked them up at the supermarket.
I’ve had issues multiple times with this location getting my order incorrect or simply not including parts of my order. Last time I was there my biscuits came with bacon I didn’t order on it. Today my order was missing the drinks I ordered and the butter and jelly that went with the plain biscuits my mom ordered. The staff has not been very friendly… they don’t greet you when you walk-in. The inside tables are often not wiped off and there’s not a lot of places to sit. I do like their have vegetarian options I just wish the service and atmosphere were better. Overall it’s an okay spot but I feel like it could be great and I would visit more often if the staff was more friendly and the orders were correct when I did go.
Just ok, my husband and I brought my MIL from of town with my three kids based on good things I have heard, but I did not have a great expereince. Our server was unfriendly (grumpy to quote my husband) and another server who walked past several times smelled of cigarettes. I asked about options for the my 2 youngest children and at first the server said only what they had on the menu, then said they have a kids buttered noodles option. I am not kidding when I say the buttered noodles was 5 pieces of medium sized of pasta in a bowl. I have never seen a potion size so small and my 6 year old girls eat very little, but this portion would barely be enough for a 2 year old. The floor to ceiling windows look out onto a brick wall. Was a bit embarrassed I brought my MIL here. Not one of the better restaurants I have been to in the area, definitely do not go if you are looking for something kid friendly, but would not want to return for a solo date night based on the service.
This place is decent inside. Ok, enough of playing around with you... for $475 bucks I SHOULDN'T have HAIR in the food. We did the 7 course meal and wine 🍷 pairing. Everything was ok, nothing spectacular except the bread was pretty good. The broccoli 🥦, Ravioli, tuna, halibut, and bread 🍞 were decent. I'm not sure what happened 😕 with the DUCK ????!???? I will upload the pics, and you'll see the hair [very long] holding up a piece of the duck. Just 🗑 🚮 🗑. Definitely WON'T be returning. On the 🐾 contrary, the server, Tim, is awesome 👌🏾
Order online today but, went to pick it up they gave me half of my order and half of somebody else's order. we didn't realize until we got home, only way I knew is included somebody else's receipt on one of the bags see photo of receipt. Missing about for my Donuts. They need to work on their quality control for packing. Been trying to call them for an hour phone's been busy the entire time.
We came here for my spouse’s birthday because we had a really good meal in the past. The chef’s tasting menu was really bad. There was far too much time in between each course. I ended up getting sick and we needed to leave early. We were very disappointed at the amount of food for the price and left hungry.
