Grotto Sant' Anna Casalzuigno Reviews
A charming place, a true refuge for the mind and spirit. Special thanks to the owners, the warmest people who make guests feel at home.
A unique experience to dine/lunch in a cave under the church of Sant' Anna, a once Trappist monastery. The host was very welcoming and versed on world and political news - he was such a nice person to talk with. The food was amazingly good: we had the mixed platter with various hams and local cheese and then two delicious pasta dishes. Thumbs up for the chef. Prices very reasonable. A recommended place for lunches and dinner - a once in a time if you're visiting the area not to be missed.
Simplicity, warmth, and a family welcome, in a charming, very unique location. We ate very well, simple dishes, and the unique feature of grilling your own food on the soapstone was lovely. Homemade desserts. Everything was delicious. Excellent quality and price, I'll be back. Thank you.
Grotto S. Anna, a pleasant discovery. This historic, characteristic place clings to the rock, crafted by skilled hands into something unique. The main dining room retains its original bare rock and is undoubtedly charming. The rest is down to the stream that once powered the mill and the friendly owners. Traditional dishes are expertly prepared, and everything is delicious. Thank you, we'll be back.

It's not a restaurant... it's an experience!!! The place is very easy to get to, with parking available. I'd like to start by thanking the owners for their hospitality and friendliness. This place is definitely a gem for those seeking charm and character. The cuisine is very homemade and flavorful, but it's worth it. Lots of locally sourced ingredients, excellent wines, not to mention the owner's stories, and a menu suitable for both adults and children. The grilled game and homemade gnocchi were excellent! The Fassona beef tartare was wonderful. We dined in the cave room, and I assure you, dining with the waterfalls flanking the building and the rain outside is truly something unique. The prices are truly reasonable... definitely worth a try. We'll definitely be back for the mushrooms and truffles!!!
We give 5 stars to this place because the food is simple and good. The cave-room is beautiful and the outside environment is really beautiful. We ate meat on soapstone, gnocchi with chestnut flour and a cold cuts appetizer. Everything was very good and the service was kind and attentive, family-run
Excellent lunch in a great location. Very reasonable prices. Friendly staff. I would return if ever in the area. Great tiramisu too!
Very tasty and super friendly owner. Make sure you know some Italian.
The restaurant was built in an old brewery and mill. Accessible via a small bridge, it sits right next to a little stream, with a lovely terrace to the left and the main building to the right. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and the owner is a superb host. He also cooks and can be proud of his simple yet excellent dishes. The prices are more than reasonable for the portion sizes and quality. Elegance is not the order of the day. After your meal, be sure to ask the owner about his homemade liqueur-preserved watermelon. The prices listed on the price list (photo) were valid in June 2018.

Franco is always a guarantee. A stunning location: a dining room with a fireplace and a small dining room in the cave. A selection of special wines. A word of advice: Dad shouldn't be serving... courtesy, helpfulness, and politeness are essential when working with the public. Even if the customer is unpleasant. Always. Because we all have problems, but the customer who dines out also does so because they want to eat in peace. We'll be back soon, Franco, thank you!
Had a delicious carpaccio here and the place is very beautiful!!!
A small oasis of tranquility and coolness; this delightful, rustic grotto was truly a surprise, a blast from the past, reminiscing about trips out of town with parents and friends, seeking relief from the city heat. Simple yet hearty, hearty food reflecting local tradition, served with courtesy and, above all, friendliness.
I'm giving it 3 stars as an average between... 1 star last night and the memory of when I went there, 5 stars. If there's a form where you can book online, and if you receive an email hours later confirming the reservation from the restaurateur, it's unthinkable to arrive at your place, after more than an hour's drive, and find it CLOSED! Remember...when you book at the Grotto, always call to confirm!
Stunning location The food was decent...I had pappardelle with artichokes and duck breast, which, however, hadn't arrived (small pieces of meat, but very few), and stuffed rabbit. It must have been the stormy evening and the empty place (meaning there was absolutely no one else there). I'll give it another try, enjoying the stone grilled meat, to refine my assessment.
I waited a bit to write this review so as not to be influenced by the wonderful day out with friends. The grotto is located right where the road ends; on the left as you go up, there's a small parking lot where it's easy to find a spot. Crossing the bridge, we arrive at what at first glance looks very much like a private home. Inside, tables, a small counter, and the entrance to the kitchen belie this first impression. We enter a very rustic room, with bottles of wine and wooden tables, with some spots where instead of a wall, you can see the rock on which the house stands. The menu is quite varied and enjoyed by everyone, young and old. All the dishes are adequate in quantity, but unfortunately, some are less than exceptional in quality and preparation (the polenta was very salty).
Chosen because it was an experience, ours was one involving biblical temples, the wrong dishes, sitting down at 1 PM and leaving the table at 4 PM. If everything had arrived on time and in the right way, perhaps it would have earned half a star more. Poor experience... service definitely needs revising... food decent.
