Dark Horse Tavern is a popular college bar known for its lively atmosphere, dance floor, and strong party scene, especially on weekends. It's a nostalgic spot for Cortland natives, but can get overcrowded and cash-only can be inconvenient.
Best For
Tip: Bring cash, as it's a cash-only bar. Be aware that it can get very crowded, especially upstairs, and may be less lively when students are away.

Fun Times , Great Crowds , Great Servers and Staff . Great place for a Cold One or Two 😎
Attended Sinatra birthday party on a Sunday afternoon. Lots of fun. They needed more bartenders and servers to accommodate the crowd. Cash only so bring your wad. Typical college bar otherwise.
For those of us that grew up in Cortland in the 1970s and 1980s it is THE PLACE to go to whenever in town. I can remember so many nights closing the place down to Meatloaf's *Paradise by the Dashboard Lights"! Doubt they still close with that but hope they do.
Best party scene in Cortland hands down. $5 dollar cover on Fridays and the weekends. Can become extremely hot upstairs, I recommend checking your coat during the winter or not bringing one at all.
This in my opinion is the best college bar in town to go to, this is the "where it's at" bar..it's got an upstairs with a dance floor and a bar up there too..it even has a dancing pole which I danced on it myself(in my defense, cheap priced cocktails obviously caused me to drink more of them)..the only thing about this place tho is that it can get REALLy packed, sometimes it was just shoulder to shoulder
Been going there for years. Great atmosphere, beer selection. Good bar food and you can order from restaurant next door.

Nice bar with a decent selection. Their choice of TV programming left something to be desired.

It used to be better, but still an okay place for a night out in Cortland. When students go home though, this place is dead.
Pretty standard bar. Lilly did a good job as a bartender. She was on top of it if we needed a refill.
Really fun bar to go to with friends if you want to have good drinks and dance. Down sides are the cover is expensive. Couple dance floors and and up and downstairs bar. Usually very busy.
Moderately priced drinks and mostly empty before 9pm. The booths are an odd choice and not comfortable. Lots of TVs with sports if you are in to that sort of thing.
A real fun spot while visiting quiet, sleepy Cortland on a Sunday night. Lots of alumni stop in to bring the good old days back. Remember when......?
Great ambiance!! Everyone was nice but it’s cash only as a heads up
Cool atmosphere, just stopped in for one drink and head out. Friendly staff. Parking on street.

Over crowded, and the upstairs dance floor doesn't open until 11 and then it's packed upstairs too. Coyote ugly kind of feel though when girls get up and dance on the end of the bar.

Honestly was pretty disappointed in this bar. Not a bad selection or setup but very dead and the bartenders seemed very new to bartending. Not what people hype it up to be bc everything online says this is Cortland's best bar

i fear your employees threatening to kick people out because they work here (off the clock) and need to use the bathroom is absurd and unprofessional especially for a business that talks about being nice
Apparently when you've been there since before they stamp you, you can't go outside to the fenced in area or they won't even let you back in to get your coat... even if you have a tshirt in your hand proving you were there before 9 and you never actually left the bar. So congrats on whoever has a new Pink hoodie to add to their collection
Sorry but the place is not clean too dark. I understand name but I think is too dark because all bar dirty. And weekend all floor too wed beer is disgusting..

Hundreds of people packed together like sardines. Garbage and spilled beer everywhere.
