Huku Bistro Davis Reviews
My first time at this Sushi place. It serves a lot more than sushi. It really is a bistro serving everything Asain food from Wagyu beef to Uni Nigiri and Tonkotsu. Once i get paid again i have to try the good expensive stuff. It's like a mid to high tier Japanese restaurant you can't say no to it. They also have robots that bring the food so you know they're high budget. You won't regret it. I had Sea Urchin Nigiri with freshwater eel sushi rolls. Best dishes ever and they even ask you if you want more. The servers are very attentive and friendly with exquisite manners/etiquette. Will even have friendly conversation with you. It's also very clean and well kept with amazing aesthetic environment with arts and lights.
Great restaurant for a semi-formal occasion on a budget! I had a group of ladies dressed in Japanese kimono for a concert in Davis and we wanted dinner at an affordable yet nice interior restaurant. The manager was very helpful in accommodating our group. If you’re interested in wearing Japanese kimono and attending events, join our Sacramento Kimono Club on Facebook! We have kimono rental as well for women/teens. 🧡
The finest restaurant in Davis by far. The food is amazing, the menu is huge, the staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful, and the robots that deliver the food are a lot of fun!
We had an exceptional dining experience at this restaurant! The zigzag roll with avocado was absolutely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. But what really set the experience apart was the outstanding service. James, our server, provided spot-on recommendations that enhanced the meal. His knowledge and attentiveness made the evening unforgettable. I highly recommend this place for both the delicious food and top-tier service!
House ramen is great, specialty rolls are good. Prices are respectable given the quality. The service is absolutely top notch. They handled all details, allergies, and dietary requirements, and were polite and friendly the entire time. Will return for the staff alone.
Excellent place to go for dinner. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Lots of choices. You can get almost anything from sushi to bento boxes for dinner. My favorite was the vegetable tempura. Nice assortment of vegetables. Crispy crust. Nice dipping sauce. You may want to get a reservation during dinner time. It can get quite busy. We were lucky and hit Huku right before the dinner rush.
Atmosphere is family friendly. With lots of space. Kid potion is big. The sushi selection is wide and the nigiri is still good and fresh. Not the places with just big piece of rice and big slices of fish as nigiri.
This is my family’s favorite Sushi restaurant in the area by far! The quality of their fish is great, and the service is always exceptional. Not the most expensive, but also not the most affordable, but I personally believe the Sashimi here is up there with the higher end place like Morimoto’s! Highly recommend this place.
Originally there's some issues with the services but after some time I go back visit the place the service is obviously improved and it shows effort and care to the customers. Definitely a plus and recommend the place! The food is amazing and atmosphere is perfect for authentic dining.
Didn't have to wait long, Sashimi cuts were thick, and the sushi were delicious. My picky sister absolutely loved the Sake Don.
In a nutshell; Really good Japanese food, good atmosphere, and great experience overall. Located in a plaza with plenty of parking spaces and other establishments to check out, so parking shouldn't be an issue. Plenty of seats, tables, and booths to be seated at. Service was excellent. Lots of various food items /sushi etc. To choose from on their menu. Ambience is great, lots of neat displays and art on the walls to admire while waiting for your food. Overall very pleasant experience do mind it is a rather nice establishment so be ready to dish out more of your budget than usual.
I love the sashimi from Huku, which are thick pieces. And the quality of each piece is great. In addition, I recommend heaven in a spoon, which includes fish row, oyster, and uni. Those provide a various flavor and texture. The nigiri of uni and yolk is also wonderful. And if you’re uni lovers, I think Huku is one of the restaurant in Davis that provides uni. Not very common in this city. But once when I went there, the sea urchins weren't fresh. However, most of the time, the quality of the uni is good. The price of Huku is relatively higher compared to other Japanese restaurants in Davis, but worth a visit.
Our group, eight families came together for a memorable dinner at Huku Japanese Bistro in Davis. Friends had raved about how delicious the food was and insisted this was the perfect place for a special gathering, so we made a reservation. From the very beginning, any worries about accommodating such a large group disappeared. The service was outstanding. Our waiters and waitresses checked on us often, always with a smile, making sure we had everything we needed. Their professionalism and kindness made us feel genuinely welcomed. We ordered a wide variety of dishes, including Sashimi Moriawase, Short Rib, Sushi & Sashimi, Salmon Skin Salad, Teriyaki Chicken Bento, and a Nigiri Combo. In fact, we ordered so many more dishes that I can’t even remember them all because nearly every single item on the table was worth mentioning. The sashimi and short rib stood out with their remarkable freshness and flavor. Every bite truly reflected the use of the highest grade ingredients and the freshest fish. The atmosphere also impressed us, an upscale yet cozy decor that felt both elegant and comfortable. The restaurant even uses a robotic delivery cart, which added a fun and modern touch to the dining experience. Huku Japanese Bistro exceeded our expectations with its combination of top-tier Japanese cuisine, warm hospitality, and welcoming atmosphere. If you’re looking for a truly exceptional Japanese meal in Davis, I wholeheartedly recommend Huku.
Absolutely amazing food. The staff are very attentive and the food is very good overall I would definitely rate this place a 5 of 5 the shoyu ramen and the gyoza and tonkatsu were amazing and I definetly would come back here again we were seated within 1 minute of putting our name on the wait-list. Overall would come back again
Excellent. Easily one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time, and certainly the best sashimi and rolls hands down. Each bento item was spectacular from the melt in your mouth tuna and salmon sashimi to the house made sweet potato and mash for dessert with the bonus Japanese pickles, salad, and stuffed tempura red pepper. On the side were the Rock and Roll and the Treasure Island rolls, both fantastic in their own right. There is no doubt we will be back to enjoy this lovely place with updated decor, subtle music, and amazing, friendly and courteous staff and servers. Our meal was two 2-item bento boxes and two rolls with a soda for me, for just over $100.
Very very nice place! Plenty of parkings available since it's a big plaza. Fast service with robots bringing dishes. Cozy spacious atmosphere. So fresh seafood with beach around level. The oysters were delicious. We even didn't speak much being busy by eating all those yummy things. And dishes were decorated so beautiful. With greens, flowers, reddish spirals, etc. This Sunday dinner for 4 cost us about $200 and no regrets. Will go there again!!!
We stumbled onto this wonderful sushi restaurant since we came here to eat at the Taqueria Guadalajara Grill right next door, but it was closed that day due to maintenance. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the fish, the generous portions, the friendly staff and how delicious everything we tried was. They also have this new way cool robot assistants server that follows the servers to deliver your food table side. We definitely will be back and this is now our new Davis favorite!!!
Huku Japanese Bistro has some of the freshest fish in Davis. Their rolls are flavorful and beautiful presented. I strongly recommend the Rainbow roll, and the Christmas Eve roll, as well as the calamari, garlic edamame and pretty much everything else on the menu.
This is actually the best sushi place in Davis. The quality is up to par with other sushi places in Sac and maybe even better. But I can say it is at least 10 times better than the all-you-can-eat places in Davis. Though it is not the most traditional place, the flavors are still really good. The Dragon roll had huge pieces of unagi so it is so value!
Update: I visited again after 9 months and enjoyed my time here yet again! The fish is fresh, the katsu crunchy and delicious, and the green tea cheescake was the perfect ending to this yummy meal. This time around they were playing Billie Eilish and Chappel Roan! 💯
First time here, and my goodness the service is amazing. Walking in we were instantly greeted with a warm welcoming smile. We were able to beat the lunch rush and received our food in a timely manner. Restaurant is clean and decorated beautifully. We ordered the gyoza and rice bowl. The gyozas were fresh, salad was crunchy, and we got an extra soup since they were out of the miso. Highly recommend this place and will continue to come back.
Update more pictures from a recent visit. The lion king roll is really delicious! --Review from two years' ago: Highly recommend here, excellent food and good service. We ordered Unagi Ju, beef tariyaki, tempura and dragon roll, they all tastes awesome!
I have visited 3 times so far. I really enjoy the lion king roll any where I go. The way the dish is prepared here is different than most places I've experienced. Lots of salmon on top and ingredients inside. Packed with flavor and covered in sauce. You can't eat it with chop sticks. I used a soup spoon. The bites were that hearty and full. They also have a cinnamon tea that is hard to stop drinking. I really enjoyed the kind service, and clean quiet setting. A must visit in Davis for sushi and more!

super high quality food and service. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Dishes were all tasty and plentiful. would recommend the avocado ball. decor was really nice and provided loads for conversation
Had good experience here recently, nice place, sushi tastes good, prices a bit high though. Service good usually. Nice Japanese style interior and quite location. Tang makes best lion king.

Huku is our family's favourite Japanese restaurant in Davis. We especially enjoy the delicious Bento Box lunch offerings. Highly recommend the Teriyaki Chicken and Tempura Bento Box. The youngest member of our family loves Huku's sushi, as well. The service is attentive. The atmosphere is spacious and accommodating. Plenty of parking and it's close to Nugget, our favourite grocery store.
Second time at this place. They have very good COVID measures going on to make sure that people feels safe. The food was tasty and well done. That avocado bowl is a fusion dish that grab our attention. Tasty, sweet and spicy at the same time. One basically uses chips to eat it. The rolls are superb. The sashimi seems fresh and they serve big pieces. The size was a bit larger for our taste but good overall. Will definitely go back.
We recently visited Huku Japanese Bistro, and it exceeded our expectations. The sushi is fresh with high-quality ingredients. The service is also noteworthy, with friendly and attentive staff who make sure you feel welcome. We first ordered their spicy edamame and wow it was really spicy but somehow addicting. Can’t stop munching it. And we also ordered some of the sashimi and it’s so fresh and the cut was thick too 😍 Their combo bento offers great value - we think two people can easily share one bento. The bistro has a cozy atmosphere, making it perfect for family gatherings. The serving robot is a fun touch that adds to the dining experience. One thing to note that when we had dinner there, the place was quite hot. We’re not sure is it because of the ac not properly working or simply because of the weather outside. Huku Japanese Bistro offers excellent value for the price. The lunch specials are a great deal, with sushi at an affordable price. Overall, Huku Japanese Bistro is a must-visit for sushi lovers in Davis. With its exceptional food, friendly service, and welcoming atmosphere, it's a great spot to enjoy a delicious meal. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good Japanese dining experience.
I visited a few months ago, here were my notes. Pros * New Server (so cut slack) * Nice ambiance * Beautiful artwork of MT Fuji. * Interior design is beautiful. Great mix of plants, artwork (big portraits and smaller artworks), and ceramics (japanese plates, etc). It also had shelves full of japanese artifacts and artwork. * Good tasting miso soup. Came with small bits of とふ(tofu) and 昆布(seaweed). * Beautiful Tea Cup * Sushi tasted good. Wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever eaten but not bad at all. Cons * No hot towel (par for japanese restaurants) * Served the wrong order (minus points). Another server approached me to serve it but I told him it wasn’t mine. He took it back with a very noticeably angry attitude * Tea came with a bag, instead of being prepared. * Very pricy. Be prepared to spend $35-$40 for a sushi meal if you’re eating by yourself. * Sushi’s presentation was mediocre at best. Overall, a 8/10. The highlights were the ambiance and the food. The service was questionable but you can’t have everything.
Takoyaki not bad, but other are all normal, average level of Japanese resaurant or even worse. Visited twice and do not wanna go more. If you are hungry, it is good, but for taste and texture, no. Service is also very normal.

Mostly nice place and food is tasty however some of the folks there are weird. Like if you wait 7+ minutes for new meal its normal to bring new fresh silverware but they hesitate and demonstratively ask if they should bring new or not.
The spicy scallop hand role tasted like kimchi spice. I asked the server if this restaurant is Korean owned. She said yes. I love Korean food but not mixed with Japanese sushi. The sashimi slices were approximately 3/4” thick. Could slice it thinner for a better texture and get more slices as well. Soft shell crab roll was good aka spider roll. - Makoa, Kaikua’ana MC
Decided to try this restaurant with my hubby. It was clean, spacious, nicely decorated, and there was a robot thingy serving sushi which was pretty neat. Our waitress was top notch, super attentive and friendly all throughout our meal. The food was just ok. My ramen was rather mediocre. Egg tasted abit old. Ramen noodles weren't chewy and bouncy as I'd like. My hubby said his donburi was also just ok. Glad we tried this place though.
This was our first time trying Huku. We ordered the Treasure Island, Blooming, and Lobster house rolls for delivery. The tuna on the Treasure Island tasted fishy which means it wasn't fresh. None of them were particularly good. The rice was loosely packed and the overall flavor was lacking. Sorry, be we'll stick with Mikunis sushi from now on.
This place has seemed to have gotten worse. I've been here once last year, and since then, prices have substantially increased while dishes have decreased a bit in quality. Still the best quality sushi dishes in/around Davis, but wouldn't come back at these prices. 3 item bento is now $36. That is crazy. In an upscale place in the Bay, it'll be like $25. The salmon teriyaki was bigger than expected, but still. Came with little sides, such as creamy sweet potato mash and plantain chips, but was a bit off in the details. Chips were stale, teriyaki sauce was extremely thick and tasted like BBQ lays chips. Miso soup that came with it had 2 of the smallest cubes of tofu, which was pretty salty and sweet. Carrots that came in the side salad tasted like they had sat a while. Salmon skin roll was quite good, well fried crunchy skin, but $14 compared to closer to $11 at most other places. The restaurant itself is still beautifully decorated, but it seems people have stopped coming as it was quite empty. Change of ownership?

TL;DR - Sub-par food at slightly elevated prices. We stopped by Huku on a Friday night. It was around 6 p.m., and the restaurant was about half full. It wasn't very long before we were greeted and seated by the friendly staff. For our meal, we ordered their 18-piece Sashimi Moriwase, Dragon Roll, and Ikura nigiri. The sashimi meal came with a salad and miso soup. The salad was fresh and tasty, but the miso soup had a sweetness that we really didn't care for. It was the first time we had miso soup that was sweet. The soup was very off-putting. The rest of our food arrived shortly after. There were some hits and misses. The Sashimi Moriwase was mostly a hit, except their sushi rice is horrible. Firstly, the rice was dry, a bit hard, and lacked any hint of tang from the vinegar. The rice was more like steamed rice you normally get at Chinese restaurants, which was a shame. The rice for any sushi restaurant should be one of the most important aspects you get right. The rice also ruined the Dragon Roll. The Ikura nigiri was also a disappointment because that too had a sweet flavor. I'm not sure why both the miso and Ikura were sweet, but it really threw me off. I would only recommend Huku for their Sashimi. If that's not your thing, then this restaurant should be a pass. Such a shame because the staff was great.

Racist host but great food. My girlfriend and I are a mixed couple. Today when we arrived we were told there was a 30 minute wait. Another couple arrived shortly after us and we're seated in just a few minutes. Maybe they were in the wait list I thought as he proceeded to seat a second couple. I finally decided to speak to the manager after he seated a third couple who I observed getting on to the wait-list by giving their number. They left and then came back and then we're seated! All while my girlfriend and I sat in the waiting area and watched. After I spoke to his manager were seated at tables that I had earlier noted were empty shortly after we arrived! If their food wasn't amazing I would never go back. I am so sad that I have to change my review from five stars to one. This place makes the best sushi in town, but after my experience today I have to change my review and tell my story.
