Fattoria E Mare Half Moon Bay Reviews
Fattoria e Mare is easily one of the best Italian restaurants in San Francisco and a must-visit if you’re looking for high quality food, beautiful presentation, and a memorable dining experience. We started with the Roasted Beet Tower, which was fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced, followed by the Butter Lettuce, light and crisp with excellent flavor. The fried calamari and asparagus were perfectly cooked crispy, not greasy, and great for sharing. For mains, the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe was outstanding: creamy, rich, and executed exactly how this classic Italian dish should be. The house-made potato gnocchi was soft, comforting, and full of flavor you can really taste the quality and care in their handmade pasta. Dessert was a highlight and absolutely not to be missed. The Egg Nog Bread Pudding, Triple Chocolate Lava Cake, and house-made tiramisu panna cotta were all exceptional and the perfect way to end the meal. To drink, we loved the Dragonfruit Mojito and the Mezcalita both well balanced, refreshing, and beautifully crafted. From the food quality to the atmosphere and drinks, Fattoria e Mare truly delivers. If you’re searching for one of the top Italian and best overall restaurants in San Francisco, this spot should be at the top of your list. Highly recommend and definitely coming back.

Went with my family for birthday celebration and it was amazing !!! Will definitely come back The selection of cheese and meets it's delightful, I couldn't take pictures of the other plates we had calsone was beautifully served, Brussels sprouts divine.
Amazing experience here at Fattoria E Mare. We were welcomed by the host & were sat quickly. Our server was super friendly & helpful when it came to explaining the different dishes & drinks on the menu. Drinks were phenomenal. The food presentation & palate were amazing. 100% would be back. Ps. Don't forget to order the Focaccia.
This was our first time at this restaurant, and my wife and I were very impressed. The food was delicious, the ambiance was wonderful, and Luis, our waiter, provided excellent service. We enjoyed a salad and a pizza, and both were delightful. This is definitely a place we’ll be coming back to—next time on a Saturday to enjoy the live music. Highly recommended!
This is a very nice restaurant for date night or special occasion. It has an upscale feeling but still feels cozy and charming. The service is top notch and the atmosphere is also very nice. We got the half chicken which was very good. The beet salad is also very good. I got the clam chowder which was not very good. I would come back to try other things here
Food and service were fabulous. The pasta dishes and cocktails were fantastic. Our server Alfredo also recommended the Pumpkin Royale cocktail that he curated and it was delicious. Would highly recommend!
Food very delicious we are order linguine al limone and meat lover pizza. Drink we order maxican coke and strawberry mojito. Everything if perfect and my server name “marco” he takecare very well checkback many time. Good food and great service. See you next time.
Great atmosphere, attentive and knowledgeable staff, incredible food!!! (And suprisingly reasonable price). Visiting from New York, so we eat a lot of nice Italian - but this place really stands out! The food quality was truly next level. We had the artichoke, smoked burrata and favs beans salad, and a butter lettuce and peach salad for starters and they were all incredible! Some of the best artichokes I've ever had. Our waitress Samira recommended the branzino for entree, and she was not wrong! Cooked to perfection. We also had a delicious whiskey cheese pasta, and a strawberry pie-type pastry for desert. Highly recommend everything. The sommelier Pablo was very knowledgeable and gave a great recommendation - the perfect Sancerre off menu. We will have to come back while we're in town because there were so many other dishes we didn't get to try!
This restaurant is a great find. We have been to many Italian restaurants in the peninsula but they are all mediocre. We had no expectations, so when the starter came, we were surprised to see a beautiful dish of half baby beets and large strawberries in a good sauce. The focacia was very good too. My main of seared salmon was perfectly cooked and flavorful, unlike most other restaurants which tend to overcook salmon. Our other main was steak sandwich, which was excellent too. The pleasant staff automatically refilled our ice teas several times. We will make this our regular place for Italian. On our second visit a couple of weeks later, my son said it was "the best meal we've had since the last time we came here. "
The food is great. We ordered catch of the day and crab omelette. The ingredients are fresh and great quality. The taste is light and healthy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Service is great. Price is high though.
Brilliant seafood platter! Love the clams and prawns. Tomato dressing is light but yummy 😋 seafood goes so well with the house wine 🍷 Exquisite atmosphere and decorations. Not to mention the service was brilliant!
Really liked this place in Half Moon Bay. Located on Main Street, parking is a little tenuous, can only image how bad it would be on a weekend. Food was great. Was recommended by golf buddy. Great choice. Had the bucatini cacio al peppe. This was table side, a little show of the pasta being mixed is a large rind of parmasan cheese. Will be back!
Three of us had dinner on the sidewalk patio. The service was good the food was excellent. Half moon bay has several very good Italian restaurants but this one was exceptional tonight. The beet salad is a good example of taking a classic dish and making it exceptional. The chef did this on most of the dishes we ordered. Even the bruschetta was a fresh riff on a classic dish. The meal was pricey at $75 per person. The quality of the food was great and the presentation was excellent
Speechless! Wonderful! Excellent! The food is out of this world, you must try it guys, thank you chef Pablo Estrada.👌
Wow! Just amazed with the overall experience the quality of service here! They even brought out a cheese barrel to serve pasta:) we had the beet salad which was enjoyable to watch them present, and it was delicious! Kinda went over the top and got the seafood platter as the entree and a bottle of a nice Italian wine. The seafood platter was above and beyond our expectations with a whole branzini, colossal shrimp, scallops, clams, mucked and calamari. They say the food brings you there but the service will keep you coming back and they are not wrong! We ended the dinner next to the fireplace with a lounge area:) Oh and the focaccia bread, was buttery fresh, I don’t think I’ve ever had it taste that good before :) Definitely recommend
Beautiful Italian restaurant specializing in seafood, with a nice bar. Chef Pablo is the owner, you get gourmet food here made by a real master chef. Lots of space and seating options for families and couples. I came at an off hour in January so it wasn't too busy, not sure the crowd at peak.
What an awesome experience. After a walking tour, we headed to this Italian restaurant for lunch. If lunch is this good, I cannot imagine what a wonderful experience it must be to have dinner there. Staff graciously made suggestions, and their we're right. Flavors superb and everything cooked to perfection.
My first time there. I love it. 10 out of 10
I recommend the catch of the day. We stopped here on our way up the coast after going to the beach. Originally we thought it might be too nice a place to go into after a swim in the ocean, but we decided to try it anyway. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent food. The service was friendly and courteous, even though we were a bit under dressed for the very nice atmosphere. My wife and I decided to have the special which was salmon with mushrooms and a risotto like pasta that I can't remember the name of, but it was delicious. The kids had Fettuccine and Spaghetti and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Definitely a great place for a casual lunch or a fine dining experience. In our case we had both!
One of the best culinary experience I ever had. The food , the freshness, the vibe of the place and the service made a great birthday for me. We ordered different dishes perfect to share . Also great for a date or anniversary’s celebration 💖
If I could pick the most exceptional restaurant in the Bay Area, this place would be IT! Carlos and Maya (his trainee) did such an amazing job taking care of us. The little details in their service count and I hope they can get an extra bonus for extra exceptional customer service. I really like that their ingredients are locally sourced so they support the small businesses and farmers in the area. Most restaurants should do this. It a a quiet restaurant at the entrance of downtown Half Moon Bay, ambiance is very chill, they have a bar, regular tables and private rooms for party. Knowing that I had appetizer, main course and dessert which usually make me feel full to the extent that I want to pass out and I did not this time, speaks volume to the freshness of their ingredients. Everything I ate (beet salad, spanish octopus, potato au gratin, tiramisu) was amazing, worth the price, cooked to perfection and they did not miss a beat!
Has been our favorite go-to whenever we are in HMB. Smoked mussels, Branzino, beet salad, and smoked burrata salad. Even the bread. All exquisite!
I've passed by this place on the freeway and decided to try it out with my family. They have a big lot next door so there's always plenty of parking. We came in around 7 pm on a Saturday and there was no one there. We were a little offput, but we were seated immediately. They have an open kitchen layout which was pretty cool. We ordered the calamari, caesar salad, lobster ravioli, lamb chop, and linguine. We shared the calamari and caesar salad. They were great starters. I had the ravioli and it was amazing. The pieces were huge and the perfect amount for dinner. The lamb chop came with two pieces and cooked very well. The linguine tasted amazing too. We also ordered the creme brulee for dessert. It was great for the last item. Their menu seems to change slightly every so often. Their menu is pretty small, but everything we ordered tasted great. While some people did come in after, I was surprised there weren't more people on a weekend evening. I definitely want to come back to try the other food.
We stumbled upon this restaurant on our way home and we're so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. Our server were friendly and attentive, and our children loved the non-alcoholic mojitos (who knew they could be so tasty?!) The menu had a great variety of options, and everything we ordered was outstanding. From the appetizers to the main courses, every dish was flavorful and expertly restaurant spot to relax and enjoy a meal efficient and courteous, and we never felt like we were waiting too long for our food or drinks. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a cozy atmosphere. The service is exceptional, the food is outstanding, and the ambiance is warm and inviting.
I had a really good time! We grabbed the seasonal bruschetta and Roman style artichokes as aperitivos and they were so fresh and tasty. I got risotto Nero with lots of fresh seafood and squid ink as my main, it was sooo delicious and exceeded all my expectations. I gave the food a 4 stars because two people in our party got short rib pappardelle and they didn’t like it. I gave it taste and I agreed, the meat and flavors didn’t really come together artfully in that dish, it was just kinda forgettable. Drinks were also very tasty! We got a watermelon marg and aperol spritz. The marg was absolutely delicious, the ratios on the spritz were a little off though and for the price it left me feeling a little disappointed. Overall if I could I’d give this place 4.5 stars, I’d come back again to see what new dishes are on the menu and try new seasonal flavors. A few misses are worth it for all the good food.
Service was very good. Like having dinner at a friends house.
My son and I were in town for vacation. While we were exploring we chose Fattoria e Mare solely based on the inviting presentation. And we were so glad we did. Fattoria is a premium experience. The service was excellent, the ambiance top-notch. And the food was to die for. We had the mussels and pork belly app as well as the garlic sourdough bread. Pro-tip: Dip the bread in the juice from the mussels. It's incredible! For entree I had the bucatini and my son had the lobster risotto. It was a one-of-a-kind experience and a great find for our first night!
A Must-Visit Family Spot with Service That Shines! We absolutely love this restaurant and bar—it's the perfect spot for families! Finding a place that genuinely caters to adults and kids is tough, but they nail it. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the fact that they offer a dedicated kids menu made our evening so much easier. Beyond the great food and family accommodations, the service was truly 10/10. The entire team was super friendly, but we have to give a massive shoutout to Sebastian. He was just amazing—incredibly attentive, genuinely friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure our whole table (including the little ones) had a wonderful experience. Because of the fantastic service and the truly family-friendly environment, we will definitely go back again with our family. Highly, highly recommend!
Live near and have eaten here multiple times. If there were something to complain about, I would say so. Always a top notch experience here. Salad not over dressed and many creative and presentable recipes to choose from, even the focaccia is lovely. Pasta, always the right texture and temperature and seasonings. Desserts are well executed and bar options always to my liking. Highly recommend this place - after dining again tonight - and look forward to my next trip.
We went to an early dinner after the long day on the beach. We were a large group with people - mixed ages. The decor was spectacular and the staff was elegant and welcoming. Everything we ordered was exquisite, including the complimentary olive oil focaccia bread. The couple of bottles of wine went down quickly with all the food we ordered. We ordered the pasta Ala Ruota ( cheese wheel pasta) where they prepared the dish inside a giant Parmesan cheese wheel - The kids enjoyed the show! Was as delicious as it looked and complimented the showmanship of our waiter. It was a bit pricey but worth every dollar. Would definitely go again if in the area.
The food was AMAZING! The waiter Michael was so kind and handsome!! Caesar is the best chef in the world. Justin is friendly and Sebastian “Sea Bass” makes mean Bloody Mary! The restaurant has beautiful ambience and the bathrooms so sparkly clean 🤩 Half Moon Bay is a gorgeous town
A Green Oasis with Delicious Italian! This Italian restaurant is incredibly welcoming, truly a green oasis filled with beautiful houseplants of all sizes. The menu is nicely crafted, and while vegetarian options aren't abundant, there's definitely enough to choose from. We absolutely loved the ravioli and the pizza we ordered. But the real standout? The focaccia bread! It was hands down the best we've ever had, amazing with the oil and vinegar. This is a must-try place for anyone looking for a delightful Italian meal in a charming setting!
We came here for dinner, and I think this is a great spot to celebrate a special occasion. The restaurant is spacious and clean, and I liked the dim lighting. The servers were very friendly and attentive. The food was good, though not particularly impressive. We ordered the Margherita pizza, seafood spaghetti (I forgot the exact name), Brussels sprouts, and clam chowder. I really liked their clam chowder.
Great cacia e Pepe pasta made in the cheese wheel! Drinks were tasty and the lava cake was surprisingly good Service was okay but no complaints overall
First off the service was great and The bread they make here is amazing. The clam chowder was meh as well as the meatball appetizer. The muscles tasted good, but were kinda small. I also had the olives and really enjoyed them. And absolutely loved the scallops. I only ordered one beverage. The black widow. A bit on the sweet side, but I really liked it
Great food! (amazing cheesy garlic bread) I was there with a group of six on a Saturday night around 6:30, the music/ band was so loud and we literally couldn't maintain a conversation across the table. the night improved when the band stopped and the server can hear our order.
We visited on a long weekend and, while we expected it to be busy, the service was exceptionally slow. It took a full hour for our food to arrive after we ordered. Strangely, our appetizer didn't come out beforehand but was served at the same time as our main courses. The ambiance was decent, with nice decor and live music. However, the music was so loud that it made it very difficult to hold a conversation. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest letdown. The flavors were one-dimensional and lacked any depth. The lobster was extremely salty and overcooked, and the risotto was quite bland. The only enjoyable part of the meal was the shrimp. Given the high price point, the experience was definitely not worth it. We will not be returning.
The dining room was lovely, well decorated, and clean. The servers were kind and helpful. Sadly, the food was overly complicated and lacked a lot of flavor. We ordered a beet salad dish and it came served in a dome of smoke. The smoke did not make the beets taste good. The cheesecake came served with a dome of cotton candy over it. They poured a flaming liquid over it to melt it, but the cheesecake itself was bland and the texture was mushy. I think if they focused on a few strong flavors the dishes would be greatly improved.
First time at this place. They need to clean not only the table but the chairs and floor after each service. Food was good.
European here, so I judge food harshly. The place was nice and I had very high hopes of the place, thought that I finally found a nice restaurant that reminds me of Europe but food was disappointing 🥲. We had grilled octopus 🐙, smoked mussels and my husband got meat lover pizza. Octopus doesn’t pair well with fresh tomatoes and cucumber in my opinion. The smoked mussels were interesting but the taste just not there, too much lemon juice and the pizza was the worst I had in the Bay Area so far and I lived here for 2 years. It just didn’t taste like normal italian pizza dough. Hope you guys can do better.
The food was good the service not so much. The hostess was not very communicative. When we asked for something she would literally just walk away without response and never follow back up. We went two evenings in a row as we were staying across the street, once for pizza to go and once for dine in, and received the same from her both nights. Not sure if we would return if in the area again...
Great service, uneven food quality with a terrific branzino and pizzas balanced off by a couldn't be worse chicken tagliatelle where the chicken didn't taste fresh (like frozen for a week and then inadequately defrosted).
I made a reservation for Brunch for my 48th Anniversary. We were seated at the booth seats near the open kitchen. Honestly we should have opted to sit outside since it's a beautiful sunny Sunday but my husband has a back problem and we choose the comfortable seat. But the air was quite smokey from the kitchen that I have to open the front door. The waitress came to take our order about 5 minutes after we were seated at 12:40 pm. We ordered everything together including the desert and tell her to bring it as they are ready. About 10 minutes later she came with the foccacia and oil/ vinegar dip. At this time my husband ordered a glass of orange juice. She never came back with the orange juice so I have to ask another waiter and he bring it right away. The appetizers came half hour later and the main dishes almost an hour later. Thing is it's not even crowded. So I decided to look at the review. The main complain is that they are exceptionally slow. After waiting for another 15 minutes for dessert we decided to cancel it. Its only a toasted bread pudding with ice cream after all. Then they brought it right away and did not charge for it. How is that? Any way all the food we ordered were great except for the corn beef hash. Its soupy. The best was the waffle. Nice and crunchy outside and soft inside. Overall its ok. They just need to speed up the service.
We were in HMB, and chose to eat lunch at this place, the place is lovely located right next to a creek, and well situated by the Main Street, the interiors of this place are beautiful it’s clean and classy well maintained not an ounce of dirt or discomfort around, it’s pretty spacious too. But all good things about this place stop at that. The food is way below average for the price the pasta was not at all cooked, it’s not like I haven’t had pasta before, utterly bland and absolutely no flavour or wow feeling especially when eating at a place that is supposed to be authentic. Overall not a great experience 😐
Perhaps we had set up the restaurant for failure in our minds after checking out their website and seeing how good the food looked. Due to that we made reservations and drove out to HMB. Upon arrival we were a little surprised at what the restaurant actually looked like, dining tables set up the the left and sports bar like atmosphere to the right. Kind of a twist we did not expect but thought ok, lets get to the main part, the food. We ordered the grilled octopus, and it tasted more like it had been boiled, as it didn't have any crunch or char taste to it as we had expected. The garlic bread was good, but then again that's kind of hard to mess up. We went on to order the chops, both lamb and pork for our main entrees. Both of which were just alright. The dessert rounded things out and was a good palette cleanser. For the prices paid and listed we expected more attentive service. We have not been to a lot of restaurants in the area, but do recall other local spots that we've dined in at which we can say had better service. Unsure if we would return here purposely.
Our experience at Fatorria E Mare was unfortunately underwhelming, especially considering we this was going to be a special meal, followed by our engagement. Upon checking in for our reservation, we were promptly taken to our table. We immediately noticed the temperature on the left side of the establishment (presumably due to the kitchen) in which we were seated was uncomfortably warm. We were greeting by our server, Marco about 10 minutes after seated and offered water. After browsing the menu, we placed an order for the calamari and the soup of the day, which was corn chowder when Marco came back with still and sparkling water. After receiving our calamari, Marco asked for our dinner order, which we asked for recommendations on. It would have been nice for our first time at the establishment for him to go over specials, recommendations and any other tips for ordering. We selected the Lobster Bisque Risotto and the Linguine as was suggested by him. It seemed that because we did not order alcoholic beverages, that we were not given the same service as those around us, although it did seem that it was possible that our server was on a lot of tables. Our courses were not coursed out well and took 20-30 minutes in between each. We even had to ask for our check after we were finished eating for 15 minutes. He was very polite, but we did find the attentiveness and attention lacking. As for the food items we ordered: - Fried calamari and onion rings - 4/5 - portion was small but tasty. Sauces were nice and calamari was tender. Breading was good but not the best I’d had. - Corn chowder - 3/5 - tasty but seemed more like a puree and less like a typical chowder. Creamy and truffle flavoring, but lacking hardiness of a thick chowder with no bits of corn. - Lobster bisque risotto- 3/5 - seafood including the scallops, prawns, and lobster was lovely in texture and flavor. Risotto itself was watery and lacking flavor. - Linguine al limone - 2/5 - despite being the most popular dish in Yelp and Google reviews, we did not love this dish. It seemed to have been sitting under the heat lamp for a while before being delivered to us, as it had a dry film on time. Flavor in the entire dish was lacking, even in seafood. Dish itself was lukewarm warm. This was a miss for us in more ways than one.
I was very disappointed with this restaurant from start to finish. The first red flag was the silverware being placed directly on the table with no napkin or barrier underneath—completely unappetizing and unsanitary. The food itself was extremely bland. We had to add salt and pepper just to make it tolerable. The minestrone soup had absolutely no flavor, tasting more like warm water with vegetables. My steak was equally disappointing—no seasoning, no flavor, just plain and forgettable. My wife’s shrimp dish was the worst part of the meal. The shrimp were not cleaned or properly prepared; she had to personally clean and de-shell them herself at the table. It was gross, unappealing to look at, and honestly made us lose our appetite. To make matters worse, the waiter was very inattentive. We were checked on rarely, and basic needs went unnoticed. Overall, poor hygiene practices, bland food, careless preparation, and lackluster service made this a meal we regret. We won’t be returning.
Read up a lot on this place + all the advertisements for this place, I had high hopes and expectations but I came in Monday with a reservation at 12pm, it seems they were quite unprepared, the inside smelled like the bathrooms which no surprise, no wonder no one wanted to sit inside. Our server was extremely unattentive, I don't remember her name but she had brown hair and short, rather youngish. She only checked on us a few times, would hardly come to us despite us being right in front of the entrance. It took a min of 10mins to get a hold of our server by which, I didn't even want to order anything else anymore other than wait nearly 20mins for our bill. I came here for the pasta cooked in the cheese wheel, couldn't find it on the menu so I settled for the 3 course course lunch special, only to find out that the cheese wheel pasta was indeed available but by request only. I may come again but it certainly won't be with reservations anymore since it didn't seem to matter as the staff seemed unprepared anyways. The food we ordered were pretty decent, I would entertain a 2nd visit only because I want to try the cheese wheel pasta but other than that, I'd look at other restaurants around the area. Was a big disappointment after waiting a month just to dine here.
Ordered Veg pizza to Go Sat in my car In 2 mins my clothes were full of oil Opened box and there was 1-4 cup Oil floating in the box Jacket stained - clothes stained , leather seat stained
