The Bull & Bear Houston Reviews
Great Pub-Restaurant. Excellent food from pizza to curries. Wonderful daily specials. Perfect Guinness pours from the bar. Chicken wings crispy skin, Chicken sandwich, and Grilled Porkchop special were all excellent. I didn't get a picture of the stuffed Jalapeños but they are a must!
I’ve been coming to the bull and bear for 5 years now and by far my favorite manager to come through here is Tyler. He is really changing things up and bringing a new level of customer service! He pays attention to detail and always knows what I want and when I want it. They have a lot of good beers on top and a great selection of food. Luis, Victoria, & Leslie all do a great job. Highly recommend! ❤️
Great place good food. Awesome drinks great bartenders. I am so glad I stumbled across this place locally in the area great atmosphere. I’ve been a couple times. They haven’t let me down yet.
Bow and bear is every bit an authentic Irish pub. The food tastes great and is reasonably priced. They have wide diversity of beers and spirits. Most importantly is how they treat you. They treat you like you’re a guest in their house instead of a customer at a bar. Each time I’ve been there, the bartenders have introduced themselves by name. They’re friendly and attentive, but not overly chatty. They’ve got a small outdoor seating area, which is great on nights that are cool enough to enjoy it. Bull and Bear has now become one of my spots. Anyone who tries it will probably make it theirs as well.
Nice neighborhood bar. Locals are friendly and bartenders are engaging and helpful. Had a burger that was amazing. Very flavorful and filling. I think it was called a "Irish Bacon Burger". Highly reccomend this place, especially if you live in the area.
Wonderful place to eat, make new friends, play trivia on Thursday nights with very competitive teams and individuals. Luis and Elly do fantastic jobs of making customers feel welcome and appreciated. I hope they will consider an "Open Mic Night" or live music from the fantastic Houston music scene. Many patrons come every single night. It's just amazing!
If you like dark places with an old kind of atmosphere, this is the place for you. Drinks are good. Food also very good. Atmosphere nice. If you like glamour this is not for you. This place has the charm of the wear and tear than an old house has. Recommended.
The atmosphere is wonderful, food is superb, but their choice of staff is questionable. When the woman who dresses like a stripper is working she prioritizes individuals she seems to know and comes off rude when we have to flag her down. Been coming for years on and off, the morning people seem much happier to work there. Still will return but may leave depending who is behind the bar
Stopped by for a drink to watch the Texans game. Steve/Clark (🤪) was amazing, he was the only bartender and he got busy and he crushed it. Made a great margarita and had a perfect pour on the Guinness. We don’t live close but we’d come back for him… and to hopefully get the bread pudding.
New owners for this location!! Staff here are great, even when it is mildly crowded!! Only complaint I have is that most sauces now come in a glass shot glass, it makes it harder to eat with verses just a regular ramekin. New menu items are very inconsistent, some days they are great, other days it feels like a waste of money. The alcohol prices changed with the new management, but that is expected. Wish they would reward regulars for staying with the location, but it is what it is. Still a place worth coming back to, after they figure out the kitchen situation
They've updated the food and cocktails and i can see this neighborhood spot quickly becoming something of a destination. The lamb shank is fall off the bone, the croquettes with chunky bacon and sharp cheddar are popbable and addictive. But the show-stopper is the Shepherds pie. Mashed potato stuffed with rich and hearty stew rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 Its schtupid good
I stopped by for my usual burger and fry combo at the bar, only to discover that the menu had been significantly reduced and the daily specials were no longer available. I was a bit disappointed at first, but I decided to stick with my burger and also tried the soup of the day, which turned out to be tortilla soup. To my delight, the soup was exceptional! I would happily return just for that soup alone, and I’d love to request that it be added to the permanent menu. While I'm sad to see the daily specials go, it’s clear that the quality of the food is being elevated. I'm excited to see what changes are in store for the coming months!
Excellent job on pouring the Guinness Stout. It had a good, smooth flavor with no bitterness. The Reuben sandwich and Fish-n-chips were great!
Relaxed chilled atmosphere. The ladies behind the bar were very nice and attentive. We, wifey and i, went on a Wed at 3pm-ish. We just stopped by for a small appetizer and a couple of beers, just hangover out since we were in the area. There's about 3-4 tv's showing games and other shows. There's 3 dart boards and plenty of seating. Had a great time and I'm sure I'll be going back soon. Had a great time. Note, there's some construction in the road next to the apartments next door and the road is partially closed allowing for only 1-way traffic.
The staff is great, friendly and engaging. The atmosphere is pub-like. I have eaten here before and the food was good, but this time... I really wanted to like the steak special but the steaks were tough. Both the sirloin and T-bone were hard to cut, even with that big steak knife. Either marinate or buy a better cut of beef please.
I ordered a hamburger with everything but onions and cheese, and was told they only have a "build your own burger". So, ok, I went through, squinting in the dark to see every single little item to tell the person, who couldn't handle subtracting onions and cheese, and I backed it up by saying again NO cheese. Then I got the burger and it had cheese. I was so gd hungry I ate it anyway. And I paid, and left a tip. But it will cost you a 1 star review.
