What a gem! After a disappointing experience at another place (Juliane Bakery), we decided to try Rongbranch, and it was fantastic. The food was delicious, the portions generous, and the prices incredibly reasonable. The service was friendly and efficient, making our meal even more enjoyable. We were so glad we found this spot and will definitely be back next time we're in town. Highly recommend!

At least a once a year trek for the fresh scrumptious perfectly prepared liver&onions. The grilled steaks are our favorite too to share with the liver steak. Don't take much to please Grandma Joy and Grandpa G... its their juicy liver&onions we aim to tell the world we are pleased with.

The Buffalo Burger and the Bum Chicken Sandwich were amazing, along with the BLT. They serve generous portions, too. The wait line wasn't an hour and a half like everywhere else, and the service was great. They serve pepsi, which is AWESOME.

The service was fast, and friendly. Everyone in my family enjoyed their food. I got the chicken pot pie and it was delicious and the prefect size. The sweet tea was really good, sweet, but not overly sweet. The little gift shop is cute to. Highly recommend checking it out.

We stopped for lunch when we saw they allowed dogs on the patio. It was the 3rd time we’ve ever taken our dogs to a restaurant but we were on vacation in Borrego Springs where it was 100 degrees so we went up to Julian to get out of the heat, this review is more about Heidi who was a fantastic, over the top, waitress. She checked on us regularly, split our meal as requested and even gave us extra fries. She was an absolute doll. When we were getting ready to get our bill she asked if I wanted another iced tea and it was so good I said yes. She came out with the bill and two to go cups and after having pretty horrible service at another restaurant I was amazed at her thoughtfulness. The food was very good and our dogs were so good and comfortable on the patio! Thank you, HEIDI🍾

Mostly it's well loved vs. new and shiny Food's good, service is great. I had the BLAT Turkey Sandwich with Avocado it was excellent. My companion had their "Famous Chicken Pot Pie" and left the dish clean. I'll have to try that next time.

The food is great and the service is very friendly. The floor and the bathroom where messy. If you come here the cowboy plate is fire and you should ask for the hash browns. There is a little store beside the dinning area that has all kinds of gadgets and souvenirs. Overall I would give it a 9.6 out of 10

The plus was when the rest of the town had a 1 hour wait to be seated we were able to get seated right away here and our waitress was very nice. The restaurant has a cool throwback style that fits the town very well. The main down is the food and the effort around it was uninspired.

We were told about Julian, CA from a lovely lady in the RV Resort we are staying in. What a lovely little town. My husband liked the name of this restuarant so that's why we picked it. The building was old, definitely been around for a while, but I liked that about it. The staff was so nice and the service was great. We had some wings for an appetizer and they were very chrispy and spicy alone, but when coupled with the homemade ranch and BBQ sauce they were amazing. My husband had a pulled pork sandwich and fries. He enjoyed the sandwich, it was filled with shredded pork and the BBQ sauce, again, made the sandwich. I had a burger with bacon and onion rings, the burger was good but nothing special. The onion rings on the other hand were excellent. The food was pricy, when we spend $50 on lunch we usually have drinks, not this time. I think my hamburger with bacon and onion rings was $16.45. We would probably go back to Julian but probably will pick another place for lunch.

HORRIBLE FOOD, My husband and I went to Julian to celebrate our anniversary.. this restaurant has the worst food. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy, the gravy was literally like water biscuits were old and looked old and dry..told the waitress to see what she served she agreed though she offered to get something else from the menu so my husband got steak and eggs, again horrible, he asked the steak to be cooked medium, IT WAS OVER COOKED... If you plan on visiting Julian don't eat at this restaurant.

Went to Julian to get some fried chicken. Stopped here 'cause no lines. Wife have ribs, I had the fried chicken. Service was a little slow. Had to ask for utensils. Wife ordered a Sierra Mist. I ordered a sweet ice tea. Ribs were very dry. My wife and I shared my chicken. Coleslaw not good. Ranch beans and chili were ok. I don't think we will eat there again. Nezt time we will wait and try another place. Sorry Rongbranch, we tried.

You are welcomed in, into a cozy atmosphere with lovely and friendly staff, was quick to take the order & even quicker to bring our drinks! Alas the food didn't live up to the hype. We ordered a medium well steak, arrived rare, we cut it into 3 different portion and showed it to our waitress, she was polite and quick brought it back to the kitchen. Where they only heated 1 single portion and not the other two 😂. Our winner chicken dinner was frozen from the inside, tooo bad it was steamy hot to the touch. Curtious enough they offered a complimentary soup to that party member who refused to order anything else. As for the chicken pot pie, well presented, crispy crust on the top, watery mess on the inside, a quick visit to the bathroom, passing by the kitchen and you'd see them microwaving it. Loved the turkey sandwich tho! You should go for it! After few discussions they agreed to take the steak outta of our bill, which I appreciated!

We went into town for breakfast the day of arrival at KQ Ranch. This was not our favorite place. This is the first time I experienced large diced, raw onions in an omelette. The best dish at our table was the potato skins with eggs, bacon, cheese with sour cream and salsa on the side.

Food was ok nothing special. Cornbread was on the dry side and the chicken pot pie was so small for 15 buks and it was just ok. Way too expensive, chili beans also. Table didn't have enough silverware settings, server wasn't too familiar with the menu either, servers need to Know her menu !!

The world's WORST chicken pot pie! Do not order. If my niece and I hadn't been so hungry after waiting 40 minutes for our food, I would/should have sent it back. Another customer left 3/4 of theirs not eaten, but he had other food to eat. The crust was OK but barely covered the top. It seems like the kitchen ran out of pot pies and rather than letting customers know this, the cook improvised using vegetable beef soup, unthickened, threw in a few pieces of boiled chicken and corn and served soup in a pot pie! It was horrible. The menu stated "worlds best chicken pot pie"! It was absolutely the worst. Luckily, my sister had a yummy salad with chicken which she enjoyed. After this experience, I won't be returning to eat at the Rong Branch in Julian again. I don't trust their cooks to serve food that is satisfactory anymore. I'm very disappointed. Moral of this story...do not eat what isn't satisfactory at a restaurant. Leave. Do not pay for badly made food even if you're "starving". However, their fudge and gift shops are worth a visit. The Rongbranch did me rong!

My burger and fries were good. Wife and daughter got the chicken pot pie. Well, it used to be really good, but this time, not so much. Lots of brown gravy and very salty. We'll be back because we like this place. Service is always good.

The service was okay. They didn't have a few items that we would have gotten. The onion rings were greasy, the mashed potatoes tasted like powdered potatoes, the grilled chicken breast tender sandwich was dry and the fries were thin, more like potato sticks. The portion sizes were small for the price.

Had the open face turkey sandwich. Very disappointed. The turkey was sliced lunch meat and a poor quality. Had a hard time eating it. My friend’s Patti melt was acceptable. Long wait and when we got in half the tables were empty. Probably won’t return

The food is totally match with price and the waiter's attitude is good. But the kitchen exhaust system really needs to be redecorated, the whole restaurant smells like kitchen fumes (not barbecue aroma or smoky smell), which is not good for the staff who are working ...... Anyway, I stayed as a guest for half an hour and I was already breathless ...... Just want to hurry up and eat and leave.

Great that they serve breakfast all day, but the quality was disappointing. My hash browns were a frozen grocery store patty, and the biscuits were thin and processed. My friend's 'Cowboy Skillet' was almost entirely potatoes with very little meat. On the bright side, the bacon and eggs were fine, but overall, it felt more like a quick-service assembly than a home-cooked meal.

It looks like it would be such a great place, but that’s about all it has to offer. Food was just not great, the tri tip dinner tasted like deli meat and not fresh, the country fried steak was not that great, mashed potatoes weren’t great, and the cornbread was equally not as great. I would recommend the Petite Sirloin, the sirloin itself was so good and showed that maybe there is a glimmer of hope for such a great looking place.

4 of us 1st time visit Meals: skins... we're good patty melt... was ok burger... was meh avocado toast... sis almost threw up eating it. 2 of the 4 pieces had rotten avocado Pie... probably 4 days old and watery overall wouldn't do this place again.

Unfortunately I have to leave a poor review here. To start I want to say the staff was incredibly pleasant and this review has no reflection on the service we received. They were all wonderful and polite and an absolute pleasure. That being said this was some of the most mediocre and flavorless food we've ever had. I love Julian and have been coming for years and always wanted to go to Rongbranch and I was sadly very disappointed. The fries literally had no flavor. Everything else was absolutely mediocre or flavorless with a few exceptions: Their house ranch is good, but inconsistent, some we got was very tasty, some was very watered down and a shadow of the flavor it should have been. The chicken liver appetizers were well seasoned and well prepared. To counter that though, the liver and onions we had tasted as if they had no seasoning. I will qualify that by saying the grilled onions were flavorfully prepared. The burger we had was also very flavorless. Both the tables sitting next to us had the same issue, complete lack of flavor or the only flavor discernable was salt. Again, very sad to leave this review, I wish we'd had another experience but thats the truth.

We ate there last Saturday. Quite a bad experience. Chili tasted like it was out of a can, just warmed. Fish and chips (recommended by the waitress) was dripping with fat. Their frying oil was, probably, not hot enough. We were too tired to argue so we didn't send it back. Avoid this place.

The food was not great quality. The beans had too much tomato sauce, same with the bbq sauce on pulled pork. Then, the black bean soup was very bland, tasted like a can of black beans with no salt broth. The waitress was great.

My husband and I brought my Mother-in-law here on Mother's day, May 12th, 2024. We were seated immediately which was good. The place was not busy at all. We ordered the chicken livers, fried pickles and onion rings as appetizers. For entrees, my husband the beef noodle soup and chicken pot pie, my mother-in-law ordered the beef noodle soup and chicken wings and I ordered the meat pork ribs. Sadly, the only items that were any good was the soup and the onion rings (even though my husband said the beef in the soup was tough). Everything else we ordered was overcooked and dry. The pot pie and chicken livers were somehow overcooked and greasy at the same time. We have been here once before and had a pleasant experience so maybe the cook was having an off day.

It’s a cute place with friendly staff, but the food was below average. When we were seated it took a long time to get drinks ordered by someone who wasn’t our waitress. My fish and chips were done in an excessive amount of batter that was crunchy.. I’ve never had fish served like this before. The bathrooms weren’t the cleanest.

This place sucks, It took asking to get napkins, 3 of them for 6 people having the appetizer then ask again for service ware before the food came. Cool to warm food, even the steak and ribs. The burgers were served with cool fries and on buns as close to croutons as you can get. If you like food, skip this place. The truth is either funny or it hurts!!

The server gave racist vibes. We are a black couple. Ignored us despite standing a few feet from us when we were seated. Started serving another couple seated at the booth right next to us, despite us having already waited 15 mins. I took my business elsewhere.

My husband and I ate there during the weekend, worse mistake ever. Not only is the customer service horrible (aside from a blonde waitress who was very nice, I believe she’s the granddaughter of the owner.) but the food took forever to arrive at the table and when it arrived it was very stiff, like a brick with barbecue sauce over. I order the BBQ Ribs and my husband a cheeseburger with bacon. Couple of hours later we started to have a really bad stomach ache that developed into a really bad food poisoning, even the doctors at the hospital we went to couldn’t believe that the sickness got so bad, we were in so much pain and couldn’t retain any liquids. Just FYI if you plan on visiting Julian, abstain from eating here.

Horrible…after our waitress held our 5 glasses full of ice (one on top of the other) under her chin. Yes we should have left but we were starving and had already waited an hour. Next, the food was awful, extremely awful! Undercooked bacon and soggy fries. $85 later…never again.

I ate here on a Friday evening because other friends I was with wanted to go there. My prior experience was not good but I went anyway. I ordered their chicken pot pie which was over cooked and burnt on top and slimy on the bottom. My wife and friends ribs were flavorless and cold. My other friends open face turkey dinner was only saved by the gravy that was poured all over the place. If we could give zero stars that’s what this place would get.

The lady serving us was absolutely lovely. Excellent service. The food was absolutely terrible. No matter what you order it’s trash. Wow we paid 100 dollars for the most epic worst meal for 2 and a baby. We didn’t dare to eat it. We just took in plates and left it on the street because the food was undercooked, with no salt and the beef ribs tasted funny like they were not in good shape. Service is very nice, ambient is too but really the food is beyond what I can imagine as a bad meal, specially after waiting almost one hour outside to eat and then other 45 minutes inside to get our Food.

Was here for dinner Jan 31 , 2025. The food was great. Very tasty ! Then I looked at my husband to say something and saw a HUGE RAT scurry across the room , to where the fudge is sitting out ! I told the man at the register , he was not surprised! He knew exactly where it went ! I was shocked. The man didn’t say sorry. No point to mention a discount. No hurry to clean up the fudge area. Just - yeah I put poison out. I am disgusted ! We will never recommend this place. They have so much candy sitting out in the open. Someone is going to get sick !

Coleslaw not a drop of dressing. Opened a bag and put in dish. French dip, meat was a packaged very tough unable to eat. Server was by herself, 3 tables in use. Returned all food. Not recommended for a meal.

The wait was over an hour and the food was terrible. The hash browns and bread look like they were microwaved, the chicken fried steak was HARD. I couldn’t chew on it so I just didn’t eat it. The fries were soggy and hamburger was mid. Regret not going across the street but wanted to give it a chance. Do not recommend. I’ve seen similar reviews on this and should’ve listened.

This was genuinely some of the worst food I've had out in a long time. We waited over 40 min for our food to come out. The chicken fried steak was inedible. It was extreamly rough and hard to cut through, the gravy was gross and made with pizza type sausage, and the hashrowns where basic frozen patties. My chicken sandwich tasted stale or frotbitten and was extreamly dry. Like beef jerky dry. I asked for grilled onions and they came out literally bunt and dryed out. The frys were burnt and soggy from the oil. We couldn't finish our food it was so gross and would never recommend anybody to go there. Also the place was fithly with food and napkins on the ground below out table. Our waitress was kind and friendly however. Most of that wasn't her fault.

Service was great food was not. I ordered the fried chicken and it had absolutely no flavor, not the slightest dash of salt or any seasoning. The thigh seemed to be under cooked, keeping in mind that the place was not busy at all for them to be in a hurry to complete orders. My wife's BLT was OK but not good either. Don't know what happened, we were there last year and the food was great. Even the apple berry pie had less flavor. Very disappointed!

The service was really bad. Saw the waitress once for the drink and once for the food. Someone else threw the bill on the table and ran without asking if I wanted anything else, not even a doggy bag. There was plenty of food left on the plate. There were only 2 other tables occupied so no excuse. The food is as awful as the other reviewers say. They even got my order wrong. I ordered beef tips. I got sliced roast beef with a miserly amount of bbq sauce. The meat must have been heating in hot water since there was a puddle of water in the plate Beans were hard and the sauce was thick from being reheated too many times. Tasteless coleslaw. All this plus a few pieces of rock-hard salt water taffy for $28.

Worst place I’ve been. Food was poor. Not cooked well. One person in the back cooking. The servers were either 12 or 60. They obviously didn’t know what they were doing. Didn’t get a single order right. Waited 2 hours for seating and food. Super expensive for such shitty food and services!!!!

I came here out of desperation because I had a very hungry child and the other restaurants were either packed or not open yet. All my kid wanted was a slice of pie and some bacon. We were greeted and seated in an empty restaurant, but immediately behind us a huge group walked in. They had a “breakfast pie” option on the menu that included a slice of pie and two eggs “cooked to order”. We got that as I would eat the eggs and my kid would eat the pie. We also ordered a side of bacon and breakfast link sausages. The pie with eggs and the bacon came out almost as soon as we ordered it, telling me these eggs were not “cooked to order”, and were hurriedly tossed onto the table by a lady from the kitchen before she ran back to the kitchen frantically. Then she came back out and threw the sausages on the table that were placed on a plate that had a dried crusted splatter of some other food on it. The “slice” of pie was the smallest piece of smashed up pie possible and the eggs, ordered scrambled, looked like they came from a vat that was sitting somewhere and were undercooked and runny on the inside and overcooked on the outside. I didn’t even put them in my mouth. I don’t know how a restaurant can screw up bacon, but this was some of the worst bacon I’ve ever put in my mouth! It was so over cooked that it disintegrated once I picked it up and tasted nothing like bacon and all like the deep frier it was tossed in. The hostess took the bacon off the bill when I said something about it and then disappeared. I heard this place used to be fairly good. By this experience, we will definitely not return. And it’s unfortunate too, as we are somewhat local.

Food was disgusting! Flavorless! Pot pie 🥧 was not fresh and dry. Chicken was flavorless. Yuck! Pulled pork sandwiches had little dry meat with bbq. French onion roll tasted like dirty dish water. We left most of the food on the plate. Never again!

The food was really bad. Don't eat here even if Julian is busy. Go wait in line somewhere else. Everything we got was greasy and either over cooked or undercooked. The servers seemed depressed and of course never asked how our food was. They knew it was all bad too.

I was there this past weekend and wanted to veer from the super busy diners and this place seemed nice enough. They sat us pretty fast, but as soon as we were served burnt coffee everything went downhill. They took 30 minutes to serve three plates. I ordered a waffle for my daughter, and when it came it turned out to be a fried waffle. This is what they serve for a 3 year old? I was quite disappointed.

Very weird French Dip Sandwich with gravy that tasted like it came out of a package and very bland mashed potatoes. They did not bring the au jus.

The restaurant has a good atmosphere. Unfortunately that is the only positive about the restaurant. The French Dip was completely inedible, the pulled pork sandwich was so greasy it was disgusting, the fish and chips were burnt and almost no fish. The server never came back to the table to offer refill on any drinks, all the fries were at least a day if not 2 days old. The list just goes on and on. Do not go here. Plus they added charges to our bill. We never asked for onions or Swiss on the French dips we ordered but we're charged for it anyway, also they choose your tip, it's apparently included in your bill. Avoid at all cost.

Waited 20 minutes to be seated not bad but it was anther 40 minutes till our order was taken. When we finally got our food it was awful the chicken fried steak was tough and cold. My daughter ordered Mac n cheese and it was from a blue box. Nothing about the experience was good. I’ll never eat here again

I have eaten some bad food, but this was definitely one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at. The mashed potatoes were definitely instant potatoes, gravy was out of a can/jar. My kids got French fries, they were soggy and not cooked all the way. Pretty sure their fryer was not to temperature. My son’s chicken nuggets were inedible, the flavor was nothing like a chicken nugget. For the price you pay, I expect some edible food. I will have nightmares for weeks. The waitress never came back after dropping off the food because she knows it so bad. I feel bad because I want to support local restaurants, but this place needs to read the reviews and fix their kitchen and food product.

We still talk about this restaurant a year later, but for all the wrong reasons. We waited for a table one day between Christmas and New Year’s, only to have one of the worst meals any of us ever had.

I only ordered a hamburger for my daughter. The man named Anthony made me wait an hour and never delivered my hamburger. I think he forgot to put my order in. In the end, I asked for my money back. He just told me I'm sorry, what a shame, really. My daughter was left hungry and we just wasted our time. 😡🤬🤬🤬

We decide to scrap it and not even attempt to order something else because we didn’t want to wait even more!! 1 hour and 15 after we were sat the ribs finally come out… another 12 minutes and my cornbread finally comes out. Absolutely horrible service. There was one waitress that was hustling and on top of it but not ours.

Decided to do random Julian trip just to walk around. Came to this restaurant and was pretty disappointed, got omelet with Biscut and gravy and they came out cold, wife got a side of sunny side eggs they came out very undercooked and had eggshells. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who is visiting Julian.

First off, let it be known the servers here are slow. I get Julian being a slower paced town, but the dining area isn’t that large, there were 3 servers for 5 tables of guests and it took 12 minutes for the lady to come to us. Next, the food is sheet Don’t get the pot pie, it’s horrible. I ordered the Potato Skins breakfast concoction and it was barely palatable. The coffee tastes like the brewer hasn’t been descaled in 5 years, brewed with toilet water with a dash of urine… If you’re not caring about the quality of food or service when in Julian, by all means come here.

My husband was so disappointed in the 30$ he paid for a overcooked cold steak with boxed mashed potatoes with the worst gravy smothered over them after he had asked for medium rare, the waiter was very kind she tried her best to make up for the horrible food but it didn't make the situation better my girls received soggy fries with box macaroni and my son had to settle for fried wings after being told they ran out of Fish and chips after order had been placed for 5 minutes, I had the ribs that I had to return they were so tough and stale there was no way I could chew it down after changing my order for a burger my family finished and my burger was not at the table yet I had to cancel order and go eat somewhere else takeout . I'm so sorry to say but the food is horrible! And I'm never one to complain at a restaurant take your family somewhere else for an enjoyable meal, here is not it !

Food was terrible quality especially for the price. We got the rib eye steak was supposed to be medium well it was straight burnt and cooked so bad all the way through fries were not crispy at all. Got ribs and they were okay but not great especially for the price. The place looked great and I've eaten multiple restaurants in Julian and was very disappointed would not eat here again especially that steak it was the worst I've ever had. The waitress and other servers were very nice but food was just bad.

The waitress was not informative and rushed us through the process because she had things to do. A different server slammed the cup of water like he was annoyed. Then, he stormed off out the door. The food was horrible. I don't think I have ever eaten food that disgusting. My son got the country fried steak, and the biscuits were like a brick. The same goes for my son's girlfriend who had the steak breakfast. The biscuits were like a rock. The fork couldn't even prick the biscuit. She also didn't get the hasbrowns, which was part of the meal, supposedly because she got biscuits. The fried chicken , Winner Winner Chicken Dinner, had no flavoring and had to have come from the most anorexic chicken. The icing on the cake was when my daughter discovered a hair in her dry grilled chicken, which accompanied her Cobb salad. Supposedly, a few dollars got knocked off, but I never got to verify.

The service was good. However the food quality was poor. And way too expensive. I won’t not recommend it unless you want to overpay medicore food. I would just skip this place altogether and go to the Julian Pie Co. or Mom’s.

Long wait to be seated and even longer wait for our food. The waitress was nice but never around had to wait so long and wave her down just for a drink refill they couldn't keep up with making the coffee. BBQ ribs were so dry, the baked beans were soupy and gross, coleslaw was not fresh , and peculiar after taste. The hamburger was dry with no condiments. The onion rings looked and tasted from a box and did not look like the onion rings in some of thess posted pictures. It is costly for the quality of food. Unfortunately! we never bothered to look up these reviews , and we, we, would not have dined here. We don't recommend this place.

Food was absolutely awful. Honestly tasted like watered down week old food they reheated and added salt to flavor. Restaurants like this should not be in business — taking advantage of first time visitors who are unaware and do not research local restaurants assuming they are good.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have a good experience here. The staff was nice, but the food was very bad :/ they told us the wait was 45min-1hr which was fine with us we could just walk around in the mean time so we decided to buy some fudge since we were very hungry and it was so bad 🤧 we don’t recommend it unless you want diabetes. Then my husband ordered the BBQ pork and could not eat it, no seasoning whatsoever. I ate the garden burger which was better and shared it with him since he was starving but we both had upset tummies for the rest of the day. The waitress was very nice, she offered to give us something else from the menu but we were done with the food there, plus we didn’t have to pay for his food. Honestly, don’t come here, just plan accordingly so you can go to a better place
