Benchmark Pizzeria Kensington Reviews
The crust here is hands down the best! perfectly chewy with just the right amount of crisp and char. You can really taste the quality in every bite. Their pasta is also solid, always cooked just right and full of flavor. And no visit is complete without ordering the sundae ice cream! it’s a must-have! Creamy, rich, and the perfect way to end the meal. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving great pizza and a cozy, satisfying meal.
Worth the drive for Napolian pizza. Go early for dinner. Wait can be to be 30 minutes on a busy night.
One of best pizza spots in the east bay! Salami and Calabrian Chili pizza was superb. The meat was out of this world. The Caesar salad was excellent. All ingredients very fresh and well cooked. Flavors well balanced for both dishes. Wish I left room for dessert!
We thoroughly enjoyed the carrot salad (!! fabulous ingredients) and pizzas — everything fresh & well prepared. Service was attentive and since we came midday on a week day, we had plenty of seating to choose from. Looking forward to returning some day.
Excellent pizza, cute atmosphere, and good service. The Neopolitan pizza (i.e., The Benchmark) was excellent as was the caesar salad. Been here twice — the first time the pizza crust was a bit hard, so I wish they would make it fluffier Italian-style, but the second time it was more on-point. Would go again!
Delicious pizza, fast service, great cocktails and the bread pudding was perfect to end on. Happy to finally find a great tasting pizza that doesn't leave you feelings bloated after eating it.
solid pizza, a bit on the pricey side, but overall you’ll have a good time! would recommend the soft serve with olive oil and black sea salt for dessert fyi their hours on their menu say 420-9”ish” so they might close early, we left at 8pm and they were pretty empty pictured: benchmark (classic) pizza, sausage and radicchio, lemon pistachio
Came here around 5 on a Friday. Was lucky enough to get a table outside before a really long line formed. Be aware in case you’re planning to eat here. All the food we got (Caesar salad, spicy carrots, two pizzas, ice cream) was great. The service was a little slow but made sense given how busy they were.
The crispy sage pizza and the salami calabrian pizzas are to die for. The Caesar Salad was one of the best I’ve had, plenty of cheese and dressing evenly distributed. Top notch service.
A really great place! I went in with no background and was very pleasantly surprised. The fried sage pizza was a flavor explosion! The service and ambiance were both also great. They have a nice dining patio in front. Seems like a great date spot. I'll definitely be back!

We sat outside under 2 shaded patio umbrellas. The food service was fast. Our pizza, fried sage, arrived within 2-3 minutes and the “priest stranglers” pasta variety with bolognese came soon after.
Sat outside on a lovely summer night, sage pizza was awesome, both summer corn and bolognese were very good. Our server was the sweetest. Totally recommend if you’re in the area!
The food here is so tasty. I’ve loved their pizza for years. Before I was vegan I’d get the burnt butter sage pizza with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. Delectable. Now I love their vegan pizza. Appetizers and carrot salad are yum too. Enjoy.
This place serves the best vegan pizza I’ve ever had—worth a visit for that alone. Highly recommend! I also loved their sparkling red wine; we thoroughly enjoyed it. The lemon pizza and the sage pizza were excellent as well. A few small suggestions as feedback: it would be great to see some vegetarian pasta options added. All the appetizers leaned on sweetness, which wasn’t quite our preference—having a few truly savory starters would be nice. Some chocolate-based dessert options would also be a welcome addition. Overall, this is easily one of the best pizza spots around! 🍕
My first time here. Thinking about this amazing pizza makes me want to belt out my favorite song from my favorite band... while driving of course. I am the egg man They are the egg men I am the walrus Goo goo g'joob Last week a friend and I shared a Benchmark Pizza with Tomato, Mozzarella, Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Meatball Pizza with Tomato, Mozzarella, Grana, Meatballs, Parsley. Perfect is the only way to describe the crust. Crunchy, chewy, smoky and flavorful. It stood up just fine to the sauce and toppings. The Meatball Pizza was my favorite. Super tasty meatballs that complimented the sauce and cheese. I'll take two next time. The place is popular so Matt suggests you go early. I can hardly wait to go back
Wow, wasn't expecting this! Benchmark punches well above its weight. Behind the unassuming decor is an A+ kitchen. The burnt sage pizza and the sausage and mushroom pizza were both delicious. The dough is soft and extra chewy, with just the right amount of char. The bolognese was also incredible. The flavors and mouthfeel were perfectly balanced. I adore a bread pudding, but am often disappointed by them. Not the case here, where the generous portion was soft, dense, and not too syrupy. I was skeptical of why I would make my way up from Oakland to come to a pizzeria when there are dozens of others that are closer. I stand corrected.

I live near Benchmark and I get take out when I’m on my own and I must say they do a remarkable job of consistently having the food ready at just the right time, crafting it brilliantly, and serving it with a genuine warmth and wishes that you enjoy it. Hats off!

This place fairly close to where we were staying so we figured we would give it a go.. We had our service dog and this were accommodating as we picked a bigger table so he would fit under even though he small it’s nicer for him being as it wasn’t crowded and zero issues love that. Our order was simple we split a salad and pizza . The waiter was prompt and attentive. The food tasted fresh and would definitely come back next time we are in the area.
The Benchmark Pizza was very good. Sauce, crust, all of it. Delicious. We also ordered the chopped salad and spicy carrots and a pasta dish that I can't recall the name of. Overall the experience was great. If you have more than two people, order a second pizza.
Really good pizza! Fun atmosphere with a great mix of patrons - from families with kids to couples on a date night out. Service was sweet and efficient. Soft serve for dessert is a must, and the cookie with black sea salt is mighty good too!

We were a large party - 9 people. Ended up waiting an hour to get a table. Manager consistently underestimated the wait time remaining as our wait wore on. Talking with other people also waiting indicated we weren’t the only ones with this problem. Food was good but can’t recommend this place for a group greater than four people.

Disappointed with the pizza. Ordered The Benchmark and Salami and Calabrian Chile and one coconut macaroon, the total was $59. The pizza lacked flavor, sauce, crispiness. I ordered online for pickup and orders are sitting by the entrance door, pizzas were cold by the time I picked up. It was a cold night and the physical door is open due to people coming and going. The sizes are small, and prices are slightly high for the portions. This place might be fine as a neighborhood spot, but not worth driving out of your way. The ambiance looks nice, with cool outdoor seating.

We chose this restaurant to celebrate two friends’ birthdays, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We ordered two pizzas and two salads, and sadly, both pizzas were overcooked and burned. When I mentioned this to the server, she explained that this was the way they typically serve pizza, but her response lacked friendliness and seemed dismissive. To make matters worse, when my friends wanted to light a candle and sing a birthday song, the same server refused to allow us to do so, which felt unwelcoming and took away from the celebratory mood. Overall, the food quality didn’t meet expectations, and the service was far from pleasant. We left feeling quite let down by the experience and unlikely to return. Hopefully, they’ll take this feedback into consideration and improve both their food preparation and customer service.
