Staying at the lodges and decided to go for dinner at the Boathouse. The staff were very friendly and personable, always there when you needed but never loitering. All were very friendly with our dog and happy to fuss her. The food was incredible - first, our dog got her chicken and rice (a great portion!) before our mains arrived. The roast beef was delicious, healthy portions and all the trimmings; the seafood linguine was also a solid portion but very light and tasty. Finished off with a sticky toffee pudding - light, nicely sweet and very moreish. Shoutouts to Sarah, Lee and the chef - perfect end to this leg of our trip.

Fantastic meal , Lee was our main server and was great told us the specials and I couldn’t say no to the T bone steak - 10/10 one of the best steaks I have ever had! We also were served by Liam who was brilliant - later on found out it was his first night as a waiter and I would never have guessed he’s a natural and very quick with anything you needed! Also had the Scallops to Start and they are So good! Great staff Great food and a nice relaxed atmosphere!

We were staying at the Cruachan caravan park next door and their restaurant was shut. We phoned the Boathouse to find out if they could fit us in, it was a resounding yes. When we got there a table had been held for us - which was amazing initial service - and I cannot fault the reception our pupper received. Instead of dogs being tolerated at the Boathouse they are embraced with open arms! When we were seated our drinks orders were taken and a bowl of water for pupper arrived as well as a handful of treats. We also saw there was a dog dinner menu! For £4 our dog received chicken breasts with rice and peas just after we had been served our delicious food. I have a serious gluten intolerance and so I ordered the GF fish and chips. It was perfectly cooked and not a bone to be had. My partner had the house burger and it was gorgeous. Portion sizes were excellent value for money. In addition, the hospitality were received from staff was lovely and they were attentive throughout the evening. Cannot rate the Boathouse enough! Please give them your custom and your dogs a nutritious dinner treat!

Winter open hours are different to advertised online. Very friendly, helpful and fun staff, got seated quickly, gluten free options available. Food was lovely good portion sizes.

Stunning Sunday lunch! Everything was delicious, and I mean everything. Perfectly seasoned, and what an amazing location. Absolutely beautiful on the edge of the Loch.

What a great spot. We are here 3 nights in a row and everything on the menu was great. What a treat to have such a fabulous spot right where we were staying. It became our ‘regular’ very quickly. Staff were super friendly. I would highly recommend the place. We look forward to coming back. Thank you.

We sat right at the window with stunning view. Beautiful day , quiet and relax theme. The service was spot on. The food was surprisingly delicious, right size portion for adult and children portion however for a toddler, it was a little too much but very good prices for kids meals. Overall this is one of best foods I really enjoyed pleasure and not overfilled tummy.

Brilliant customer service, we called to see if suitable for us to take our nervous dog along with our others, they said yes happy to give it a go and suggested we book an outside bothy as a backup incase he wouldn't settle. Arrived, greeted at door and informed us they had a table at the back of restaurant area they could put us which was ideal. As it happened we had nothing to worry about and the dog(s) behaved impeccably. All the dogs had medium size dog dinners which were quite large and looked good enough to eat myself. Our food was excellent and we all, humans & dogs, walked away full and happy.

The food was out of this world. Service as well. We were the only guests in the restaurant, (out of season and early lunch) but still had a great time. Our waiter was entertaining, up for banter, good food recommendations. The Scotch egg is a must try!!!

We have recently been in the boat house and the staff are so friendly ☺️ My son was very interested in speaking to them and they took the time and effort to speak to him and acknowledge his birthday We are on the neighbouring site and are looking forward to using the restaurant regularly We had a large party with us who visited over the weekend and they all had lovely comments to say about the restaurant/staff/food

Here you can enjoy all your favourite pub classics made with local produce in a beautiful tranquil setting. The prices are reasonable and the staff is polite. The view towards the lake and the mountains is the star of the show, followed by a stylish fireplace that I wish I could take home with me!

We visited this place a few times as we were staying in loch Tay glamping lodges and it was a quick walk for a nice drink 😊 the food was very good and the service was excellent, very friendly and helpful staff. We will definitely return 👍🏼 ❤️

Great food with a picturesque setting to enjoy whilst you eat and drink. Fantastic value for money .... the 2 photos I added are part of the lunch menu and only cost £12.95 for the 2 courses (£15.95 if by some miracle you can manage to squeeze a desert in after the 1st 2 courses). Absolutely worth venturing off the beaten track to experience this little gem!!!

We had a really great experience dining at The Boathouse. We had the haggis and Balmoral chicken and couldn't recommend them enough. The service was brilliant, Melissa and the bar manager were very friendly and accommodating, which really added to our evening. We had wanted to dine there again during our stay but unfortunately had to change plans, but would definitely visit again if in the area.

Lovely food and good service considering we were a huge group. They managed to get us in last minute for an early dinner. Our plan changed because of the heavy rain.

What. A. Place. It was so good on the Saturday that we ended up booking for the Sunday as well. Just a pity we hadn’t also done the Friday night. The staff struck the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth—checking in at just the right times, offering thoughtful recommendations, and making us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. The food was delicious, the ambiance was lovely, but the service is what will bring me back again and again. It’s rare to find a team that goes above and beyond with such sincerity. If you’re looking for a place where you’ll not only eat well but also feel truly looked after, this is the spot. Highly recommended!

Absolutely stunning place! We had a table with the most beautiful views over the water. The best fish and chips I've ever had! Cooked to perfection. The waiter (I can't remember his name sorry) was fantastic and even offered to take our photo with the food and that perfect background. Would highly recommend 😊

We stayed at Loch Tay Lodges for a weekend and booked the Boathouse for Saturday night. On the Saturday lunchtime we popped in for a coffee and had a really nice chat with the waiter around things to do in the area. Really nice welcoming approach from the Boathouse Saturday night we returned and our table of 6 had a really good meal including a couple of cocktails one of which was made up on the spot - again good service and bit of fun working the ingredients out. Food was really good, with steak pie, mussels and steaks all going down well. Booked again for the Sunday and had the roast dinners all round, some chicken, some beef and extra yorkshires! Service was exceptional and again a great night had by all. Would recommend a visit if in the area.

Excellent food, very friendly service and not too busy on a Sunday evening. It was dark, so we couldn't see the view. It's a wholesome, inviting place. Staff chatty and funny. It's not a fine dining experience, down-to-earth and charming, but the food tasted amazing and we didn't have room for pudding after starter and main. Shame, as there were excellent dessert options! If you're going for the first time in the dark, drive carefully down the driveway and look out for the signs telling you where to go...

We had a great meal at The Boathouse! The food was delicious with really generous portions, and the chips were absolutely exceptional - perfectly crisp and fluffy inside. It was lovely and warm inside. Lee and Sarah were so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Lovely place for a meal or a couple of quiet drinks, very nice inside and we were welcomed very warmly despite showing up late and close to closing. Food was delicious, particularly the cullen skink which I'd highly recommend, nice selection of drinks and service was excellent with staff giving recommendations for things to do in the area. If we're in the area again we'll be back.

Food was a bit pricey for us on a normal night out , but as it was a special occasion we didn't mind spashingvout.....and wow it was so worth it. The food was the best I've ever had. The atmosphere and staff were amazing. Thank you for making our night special.

We ate here twice during our 4 night stay at Loch Tay lodges. We were made to feel welcome and so were our two dogs. Dog biscuits and water were provided. The food was amazing! Fresh and tasty! Cael and his staff were extremely friendly and gave great recommendations. Will definitely return here if in area. Would definitely recommend.

Lee and Sarah were amazing, friendly staff. The food was well-priced and delicious. The scenery was amazing – a great spot for a dining experience. I would highly recommend this place; We will be back. Thanks to Lee for the banter and advice, for Steven, which makes the dining experience far more enjoyable.

The food was really lovely. We had the Scotch broth, haggis bon bon and grilled goat cheese for starter, sea bass for main, and sticky toffee and lemon cheese cake for dessert. Everything was piping hot and lovely. The sea bass especially was delicious - pan fried with seasonal veggies and a lovely saffron sauce. There is an automatic service fee of 10%, but the staff is transparent about it. During peak time it can get busy and there might be a bit of a wait time for the meals, but the waiting staff made us aware the minute we came through the door. The restaurant was a very pleasant surprise, as I never had good experience with similar places next to holiday resorts.

Gem of a restaurant on the edge of Killin with stunning views across Loch Tay. Lee and Sarah are fabulous hosts and give the whole experience a personal feel. Food was high quality with generous portions. Couldn't have asked for more!

We were blown away by the views, staff and food. Our soup starter was delicious ( clearly home made) and all 3 mains were fresh, well cooked and presented. The prices were fair too. The staff were very friendly and service was excellent! The restaurant was a little noisy but we had a great lunch. Highly reccomended!

M
Matt

Reasonable. I had big pot of mussels and beetroot carpaccio to start which was very tasty. Friend had Thai fish cake which was crispy and chicken balmoral which was juicy. Pudding was brownie that I liked but thought was the sticky toffee pudding… 😂😕🤦‍♂️ Accessible but has a very long steep driveway and gravel carpark.

OK, not 5 stars. Food choice, quality and selection OK, getting staff attention always seems a challenge.

M

A mixed experience. Excellent, friendly and efficient service. Nice view and atmosphere. The food was sadly not so great. Out of three dishes the haggis was nice, the pie not good at all and the chicken breast passable. And definitely pricey for what it was.

M
M Gallichan

Be aware- automatic 10% service charge added so add 10% to all the prices you read. Too expensive IMO for very average food so not good value. Thick cut chips were like cooking oil sponges and that's all I could taste. I don't normally eat chips and definitely won't be eating anymore after these. If I'd realised there was a 10% service charge I wouldn't have eaten there as I don't agree with the principal of it. You basically get automatically charged for a service that may not be very good and food quality may be poor. We were on holiday but even if I lived next door I wouldn't eat there again. Did I mention the automatic 10% service charge?

We phoned at 4:40pm to book a table for the same day and got 7pm, as we were told this was when there would be space for us as they were very busy that night. Upon arrival we found a half empty dining area. Once we were seated we were told that their fish delivery hadn't arrived which resulted in half the menu being unavailable. This should have been explained when booking the table. We had the cheese and bacon burger and a steak pie. The food appeared quite literally about 5 minutes after ordering. The look of scepticism was apparent on our faces and our server. The food was enjoyable but very clearly could not have been freshly prepared and doesn't justify the price. The servers were nice and personable which was the saving of the experience although at no point were we asked if everything was OK or if we enjoyed the food. All in all a disappointing experience compared to what we hoped for. Its not a place that needs to be avoided or anything so drastic. That being said, we wouldnt go back.

I’ll give it 2 stars because it’s in a nice setting and the one drink I got was nice. Id have ordered food but id not booked a table….. fair enough I suppose I imagine they were rushed off their feet serving the other customer and were unable to fit us in. Apparently no tables are available but as I write this I can see 19 entirely empty tables. In fact I can only see 2 occupied tables and I’m at one of them. Maybe they’re going to get busy later but in that case say “we’re going to get busy later” not “no…. You need to book as soon as you get here” Terrible service nice venue

Long-time Loyal Customers Disheartened by New Atmosphere We've been coming to this restaurant for years… long before the holiday park and the restaurant gained the popularity it now enjoys. It’s always been a quiet gem for us: great food, relaxed atmosphere, and a warm, welcoming feel that made it a highlight of our visits. We've supported this place consistently and recommended it to many over the years. This weekend, however, was the first time we left not just disappointed, but genuinely disheartened. We understand that things have changed—it's busier now, which we're actually glad to see. It's great that more people are discovering what we've always known. That said, the way we were treated by (what I presume was) the manager left a sour taste. On Saturday night, we didn’t book in advance, which was our oversight. It was busy, and we completely understood when we were turned away. No issue at all. On Sunday, I checked OpenTable and saw plenty of availability, so again we tried to pop in… given we were staying just 100 feet away. We were turned away, which, again, we would have accepted had it not been for the tone and attitude of the manager. There was no attempt to make us feel welcome, no effort to suggest an alternative time, and no basic courtesy or apology… just a blunt, dismissive interaction that made us feel more like a nuisance than valued, long-time customers. It was enough that I actually hesitated to try again on the Sunday , knowing how we’d likely be treated. We fully accept that not booking was our mistake, but what really stings is how far the vibe of the place has shifted. The intimate, friendly atmosphere that made this place so special seems to have been replaced by something cold and impersonal…at least under this particular manager’s approach. We genuinely hope this was a one-off, and that the heart of the restaurant hasn’t been lost in the shuffle of its newfound popularity. We’d love to continue supporting it, but this experience has made us reconsider.

Staying at the Loch Tay Lodges, a dinner at the Boathouse Kitchen seemed a no brainer. Why drive to the restaurants in Killen when we appeared to have a waterside venue with a wholesome menu and great views. After an hour of disappointed and probably one of the most unpleasant and also overpriced meals I’ve had in years. The menu was small but sensible, so we chose sensibly too. One fish and chips, and one steak and sausage pie. After a pleasant day outdoors we were more than just hungry, so even a mediocre offering would have been heartily accepted. The food looked ok when it arrived. In fact a bite if one of the triple fried chips was a delight. And from there on it went downhill faster than I could have imagined. The fish came in a strange, yellow batter. With the first single cut I knew it was wrong. A strong whiff a ammonia with the steam announced the fish must not be eaten. Ammonia. Off. Dangerous. I politely found the jolly waitress and explained. She whisked it away. Then returned a minute later. The chef told her the fish had been delivered yesterday. Her jolly ness gave way to annoyance. Well, I wasn’t going to eat a mouthful so that was that. I was asked rather grumpily if I wanted something else. Well, yes of course. I’ll take the pie. And when it arrived ten minutes later, a bowl of watery over salted gravy with a few bits of tasteless beef floating about in it. Edible? Just. Pleasant? No. Worth £17? Absolutely not. And my companion agreed, hers was equally poor. The baby carrots unpeeled, untrimmed and sad looking. Clearly older than a few days. If a chef is told that his fish is off, an instant apology should follow. Not a challenge and counter excuse. We ate because we were very hungry. We got the bill, paid and left. No apologies, no offer of having the drinks for free (all £6 of them). Bad cooking is one thing. Potential food poisoning another. We’ll never go back, and neither should you.

As a tour guide I stumbled by this place yesterday whilst taking clients to an Iron Age museum next door. I was amazed at how beautiful the setting was and immediately took a video from the jetty which was awe inspiring. My wife agreed so we eagerly planned lunch there today. BOOOOOM BIG MISTAKE. 1. Seriously, my food came wrapped in cardboard. No crockery. 2. When I asked for cutlery I was given ( soup kitchen style ) thin wooden knife and fork as issues in shuggies glasgae Chippy. 3. I had to wait to enter the bar area whilst a member of staff wrestled with a large smelly dustbin ( SITUATED INCHES IN FRONT OF THE ENTRY DOOR. SERIOUSLY). 4. I was told to go inside when I asked the scruffy barman for ketchup and was given a paper pod full of ketchup (just like any dingy city fast food chain ) yet here I was at one of the most beautiful scenic outlooks known to anyone. 5. Then 3 other employees proceeded to drag smelly wheelie bins past our table as we ate the unpeeled chips still in their skins. This establishment has introduced prison level catering and service to what can only be described as paradise. My wife did find it hysterical though and laughed all the way back to Edinburgh. She won’t let me live it down. Neither myself nor any of my clients will be here again. Time of visit today approx 12.40pm time of visit as a tour guide yesterday approx 3.30pm ( so my review can be authenticated )

What a joke of a restaurant. The service had all the charm of a tax audit — slow, joyless, and painfully inept. The Boathouse somehow turned one of Scotland’s most beautiful spots into the setting for the worst meal of my life.Calling that grey broth ‘Cullen skink’ is culinary fraud — it was closer to dishwater with an identity crisis, Whoever signed off on that travesty clearly hates both cooking and customers. And as for the fish and chips I received rock hard stinking fish and soggy chips, For a place blessed with such a stunning setting, the Boathouse manages the impressive feat of turning Loch Tay into the backdrop for culinary humiliation. Never again. The only thing the Boathouse Kitchen serves well is disappointment, The view was the main course, because the food certainly wasn’t

Worst food I’ve ever had!! Arrived at 12:30 for roast dinner but food wasn’t served till 1pm and roast at 1:30/2 even though website says 12!!! Ordered soup then when everyone else food was brought out they then advised they didn’t have the soup ordered. Chicken goujons were burnt and no taste! Burgers were cheap! Onion rings were just batter and oil! Apart from the view j wouldn’t bother eating!! It’s changed hands and not for the better! Guy behind the bar was good.

The pricing felt predatory, for the £90 rip-off that was delivered! A Valentine's Day set menu meant that we were locked into a £70 price tag for dinner from the get-go, regardless of what we got. I thought this was sneaky, as the regular menu that we had sourced before coming had dished priced at around £16-17 each. On top of this, a 10% service charge was added, without our consent. I always tip, when I go out to dine -- but the option to decide being taken away was not appreciated. The staff were very nice -- however I feel completely and utterly ripped off! My partner had extremely limited vegetarian/ pescitarian options for starters (the only option being some melon). The staff were nice enough to switch her starter out for a choice of side. For £90, myself and my partner had 3 chicken wings, a bowl of chips, 2 pints and 2 fillets of salmon with a couple bits of carrot and broccoli. The food (especially the starters) felt as if it had been frozen and then immediately fried. My partner's chips were hard -- there wasn't much meat on my wings -- and the BBQ sauce appeared to be the same condiment that was on the table with us -- and there was only 3 of them. The salmon came on it's own, without any potatoes or anything like that -- other than 2 bits of carrot and 2 bits of broccoli. The fish tasted pretty good; there just was an underwhelming amount of it. This quality and quantity would've been a small complaint, anywhere else -- however, at £90.64, this is criminal! Overall, the food was fine, if a little sub-par; no major issues, other than an eyelash on the salmon. I just cannot justify the £90.64 pricetag, for the lackluster meal that was offered. With this being the only restaurant for miles -- I can see why this ludicrous price ramp-up is the case. The Boathouse were friendly; however, I would recommend bringing food, rather than eating here.
