Rooftop La Jolla Reviews
For those who (like me) love a good rooftop bar, Birdseye is a hidden gem. Perched right off of Prospect Street (the main drag in downtown La Jolla) it offers a killer view of the waters of the La Jolla Cove. Open for brunch, they don’t offer drip coffee but you can get an Americano or espresso and their brunch menu covers not only the basic (all American) but breakfast burritos and chilaquiles (brunch served until 1pm). They DO take reservations, but I also had no trouble finding a seat at 11am on a Sunday. Do be advised: 100% of the seating is outside, and the wind does blow in off the cove, so dress warmly, especially in the mornings. This place is super easy to miss, and requires a walk up a long flight of stairs. Maybe that’s part of what has kept this spot a hidden gem, but now you are in know. 🤫
So fun to nosh and imbibe after visiting the Sunny Jim's sea caves! If you're adventurous try The Empress drink, it's crazy and crazy great taste. The servers are so kind. Rafael A. was a delight and ensured e drything was right. The view is $1million and we'll get back next time we're in La Joya!
Really like the intimate atmosphere of the rooftop and they had such a great view of the water. Service was really nice. Drinks were really good. We liked everything we got and the food was also really solid.
This is an awesome spot to have a cocktail and enjoy a magnificent view of the ocean! We ordered a small appetizer of roasted olives - delicious! They paired excellently with our cocktails. My wife had a drink named "Talk Birdy To Me" that came in a cool bird-shaped glass! She said it was delicious. My daughter and I opted for the run drink named "Diving Bird" - it was the perfect drink for a beautiful day! Definitely check this place out if you are in the area! The entrance is a steep climb of stairs just off the street and not obvious, so check it out in "street view" on the map so you know how to get up there!
I had an allergic reaction upon arrival at the restaurant, but unrelated to the establishment. The staff cared for me until my Uber arrived. I had meds on site to take, but the made sure to provide me with water and even purchased me Tylenol for the pain from the reaction. My husband order to go to support the establishment. He loved the brunch even though he took it to go. Great views of LaJolla.
Our server was wonderful from start to finish, and the food and drinks were delicious. I got the dragon fruit matcha latte, dragon fruit mezcalita, salmon toast without cream cheese, and a side of potatoes. The bill was around $60 + tip. The atmosphere was breezy with a sunshade over the table.
Loved Birdseye! The black beach mocktail was awesome!! Ill bring friends back for that :-) cormorant salad, hamburger, chicken pasta, all delicious. Chicken and bacon sandwich stole the show. View was amazing, and we even got a Lambo lol :-) one of my new favorite places in la jolla!
Beautiful views from the restaurant. Very fun cocktails that are on the pricier side. The food was solid and good portions. Service was great and the team was very nice.
Wow! The view is awesome! Such a cool spot to enjoy La Jolla for an afternoon. We had sandwiches! Wagu burger was perfect. Buns are soft. Fries are delicious! Chicken Ranch was amazing. Service was so nice. Angel is a sweetheart! Thank you

Located on the rooftop of the newly remodeled Cormorant Boutique Hotel in the heart of La Jolla Village. Maybe a little hard to find, but so worth it. Amazing views, delicious food and drinks and such a fun atmosphere. I work a couple blocks away and this place is one of our go to lunch spots. So so good!
We came here during the Shamrock festival in San Diego, Glad we did! the service was great the drinks and views were awesome and our food didn’t disappoint. Don’t know what some of these other post are talking about the food being bland? The food was on point!
Food and view were great. Cocktails were a bit pricey for what we got, but interesting options. Small area for seating so space runs out fast, but really cool view of the street below and the ocean. Fun place to hang for a little bit and catch up.
Birdeye is an amazing spot in La Jolla! The view of the ocean is absolutely stunning and makes the whole experience unforgettable. The food was very good, with great vegetarian and even vegan options, which I really appreciated. On top of that, the staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. A perfect combination of delicious food, beautiful atmosphere, and excellent service. Highly recommend!
As my friends and I looked for a brunch spot the day before, someone found the Lovebirds Mimosa Flight and it was decided from there! Two different places online had hours, one said brunch was at 9am, another said 10am, so of course I called and their recording says brunch was at 9am on Sat and Sun. Check out for our hotel was 11am, so 9am was perfect...until we got there and it was 10am! We were 3 minutes walking from our hotel, so no big deal to go back and we just loaded everything up. That was our only issue at Birdseye! We were greeted and sat immediately since we were the first ones there, which is odd for a Sunday morning. We ordered the mimosas and they were cute and very good. Mostly champagne, but that's the way we like it!! LOL Our party ordered the breakfast sandwich, the breakfast burrito, steak and eggs, berries & cream toast, and scrambled eggs. For the most part, everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the steak and eggs. The steak was a thin cut steak, so of course they cook in 2.7 seconds, so it was over cooked, and it was salty. And although my friend who ordered the berries and cream toast THOUGHT it was french toast (it was not LOL) she still enjoyed it. As we got ready to leave, it started to get busy, but the service was great and we definitely enjoyed it.
Food was okay. Drink was good but overpriced. Views were pretty. Takes no reservations so if you're looking for a sunset at this rooftop show up early. We had over an hour wait. I don't mind paying more for exceptional food but again, the food was just meh. Our waitress was very kind. Dog friendly! They brought out a water bowl for my friend’s dog! Ordered: Pesto pasta with Salmon ($29) Green ? Something. Mezcal drink ($19).
The bar and wait staff were fantastic, as was the view . Food and drink presentation was also on point unfortunately, the food was bland. I generally don't like my food too salty and even I found the guacamole and meat in the empanadas and tacos lacking flavor and salt. The margarita flight and drinks were all good and exactly as described by the bartender, George. But they were pricey, as was the food. The higher rating is due to the staff and ambiance.
Atmosphere and food were great. You get an awesome view of the ocean too. Got the beef empanadas and guac. Both great. Shrimp tacos were the best I’ve had so far in San Diego. Service was pretty slow and drinks are a bit expensive but I would be back to try something new.

The service was 10/10, our server was really nice and attentive. The atmosphere is great, music was good and the views were incredible. Maybe the only two things that I would fault- the bathrooms and the prices. There is one stall for the entire bar. Each of our cocktails were $20+. We did not try any of the food, although the plates that we saw passing by looked really good. Our drinks were as follows: Saturn’s Reward - 8/10, a great citrus drink. really easy to drink and smooth, a great citrus flavor. A bit overpriced at $21, but still a good drink. Queen of the Night - 8/10, this was a really solid espresso martini! the flavor and balance was great. Again, really good espresso martini, I just don’t know if it was worth $20
Okay, here we go! Had a reservation today and was seated right away, even asked for a table with a good view and got it!! Big plus…. Until the service killed everything I expected (1st time here). Waiter ( didn’t get his name, no name tag, Hispanic male with short shorts) Person #1 ordered iced tea, when the tea was gone (which was mostly ice) he picked up the glass from the table, not a word and walked away. We thought maybe he went to get a refill as he said nothing. When she asked if she could get a refill, he acted stunned and was like “refill” all confused, well he then says no that this from a bottle and that’s it, you only get that glass as to insinuate that’s all that was in the bottle? We were still totally confused. Well if it from a bottle, and that’s all you get ( pretty sure that whole bottle did not fit in the glass of ice), but walked away and offered no further explanation. Anywho, rude about it. Person #2 had a draft beer and when he was done, that glass was also picked up without a word and not even would you like another as any server would have done! Also person #1 ordered a Greek salad with chicken that came out about 10 minutes after everyone else’s meal (Table of 4). But not one time did they say anything. Person #2 ordered a burger RARE ( I know, yuck) but it was far from rare but didn’t send it back, he just ate it anyway. Person #3 had a medium RARE burger that was perfect. I will say, the food was absolutely amazing and delicious (reason for the 3*) however due to the poor service, we may never return. If you dare to brave the poor customer service, the linguini pesto was amazing, added chicken! Birdseye, suggestion to remind staff of customer service and proper etiquette with customer’s. Our server was not the only rude one! ** the young tall blonde kid with blue shirt was very kind ( he is the one who sat us).
We had 10 items. The food was overall OK. The Carne asada fries were good. They were served with fried calamari which was luke warm and very hard and crunchy. There may have was some miscommunication regarding beer service. I think the service was good. I think the food needs some re working or better execution. One only of 3 appetizers were completely finished,

Went here for a quick lunch and while we were seated promptly and the view was great, we would not go back. The Bartender made a face when the waiter asked him (at my request)if he had coconut rum (nice day and I was feeling tropical)...a reaction that very clearly indicated that he considered it a low-brow request. Needless to say they didn't have it so I ordered a bloody mary that was not drinkable when it arrived. It was unseasoned and watery with zero seasoning except Worcestershire...a LOT of it. It was undrinkable and the fact that it sat untouched was never questioned by the waiter. We shared the Octopus and Shrimp Fra Diavolo: sauce was very good, shrimp was decent, octopus was tough and rubbery- almost unable to be cut. Two drinks and a shared plate was $70 not including tip. While the prices themselves are not an issue... they DO set an expectation for at least edible food and drinkable cocktails with attentive service. This restaurant does not meet the bar.
My friends and I love to pick a new restaurant twice a month for lunch because there are so many places to eat in San Diego. We picked Birdseye because we love La Jolla and we wanted a table with a view of the ocean. I even specified that in our reservation. The traffic into La Jolla was bad. I had to call and ask for an extension on the reservation, but luckily they had a valet service for only $20 for three hours. The young lady that answered the phone was very friendly and said it wouldn’t be a problem. When we arrived at the restaurant, we had the best view on the rooftop. We could see the ocean clearly and we’re very happy about that. The energy was good and the restaurant was pretty packed. Our server was pleasant, but not overly friendly. They took our drink orders and we ordered guacamole and chips and those came pretty promptly. The guacamole and salsa were delicious. The chips were a little hard. But the salsa and guacamole made up for it. I ordered the linguine with mushroom (can’t remember the name of it) and my two friends ordered the steak sandwich. This is where the vibe changed. Both the steak sandwiches were overcooked and had a ton of fat on them, they couldn’t even chew the meat. My pasta was sitting in more of a soup than a sauce and wasn’t very flavorful. Our poor waiter was a bit embarrassed when we brought up the steaks and offered to remove them off the bill. I only ate a little bit of pasta and thought I would take it home but when I received a paper to go box, I knew I wouldn’t be able to take the pasta home. We started off so good only to be disappointed in the food in the end, but the drinks were good and the view was good.
Great atmosphere & super cute spot but service is very poor. As a solo traveler, I went up for a drink at the bar twice but left after waiting 15/20 mins and still wasn’t even acknowledged.. not even a simple “I’ll be with you soon”
I’m having a lot of trouble writing this review as we had very high hopes! I would like to note that it was not the hostess or the servers’s fault, I blame management. We were told that it would be a 20 to 25 minute wait and then ended up waiting an hour and a half for our table. Our drinks were all right and our food was OK. Our server was great, the hostess was very kind, and the view was beautiful. For the wait, it was definitely not worth it and if we knew we would’ve had to wait an hour and a half we would’ve gone elsewhere.
