Juniper's Lanesboro Reviews
Small unique resturant located next too and over looking the Root River in downtown Lansboro. Seating was outside but with a large covered area. Upon entering food orders are placed at front counter with open kitchen behind. Very small menu, indicating chef based dishes that will be amazing. We ordered margaritas. Food was smash burger and the special was fish tacos. We sat in covered area with amazing views. Waitress was actually the owner and wife of the chef. We learned about the resturant with very interesting stories from the owner. The smash burger with truffle fries was prepared perfect with dense rich flavors. The fish tacos were veey refreshing with whole food tastes and depth. The pickled onions were perfect addition to the fresh veggies. The fish was prepared perfect. We want to return to try other dishes. The Italian choices looked very interesting. The margaritas complimented our meals perfectly. The resturant had a local friendly feeling. Definitely top resturant in the area.
My daughter’s bachelorette party went to Juniper for supper. Although we didn’t have a reservation, the staff made every effort to make sure we got a table in the upstairs dining room as it was a bit too cool for the patio. The restaurant was busy but staff checked on us often and our food came quickly. We ordered a variety of items off the menu and each person was very satisfied with their choice! I highly recommend Juniper’s for the food and the excellent service. I will definitely stop in again when I am in the area. Thank you for making a special day even better.
It was a busy Friday evening. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were even greeted by the chef when we opened the front door. Nice menu with a few daily specials. I have food allergies and the staff was very accommodating to my request. I had their pasta of the day. It was delicious. A delicate mix of ingredients and pasta cooked to perfection. The friends and family with me loved the meals they ordered. If you are in the Lanesboro area and love good food, prepared fresh daily - this is your stop.
Wonderful Lanesboro gem! Known for their mushroom soup - but everything is wonderful. We stopped for multiple evening dinners on our trip - Junipers kept us coming back. Have us the chance to try multiple entrees as well as some signature cocktails. The mushroom soup was better than advertised, the Mahi Mahi so good it was sold out mid-evening. Tortellini was over the top wonderful. Staff was fast and courteous, even taking time to explain the 18 month risotto aging process! Plenty of parking on street or in nearby Lanesboro public lots.
The process to order was a little disorganized. You check in with the host, are seated, then you go back up to put your order in, then they bring you the food. It was a congested area so several people in the restaurant were confused with the process. The food was good and the wait staff were friendly. Nice views of the river from the back patio area.
Fantastic restaurant in the perfect spot, right on the river in Lanesboro. You can tell flavors are carefully crafted and balanced. We had the ravioli, walleye and our kids had the burro burgers and we upgraded to truffle fries. The ravioli was perfectly done and the garlic bread was excellent. The walleye was so good and the creme chive fresh to go with it was so good! Burger loving adult son raved about his burger and fries. You order at the counter, but in a town like lanesboro where staffing is short, it is a great solution to get high quality restaurant with limited staffing. Would recommend to anyone!
Incredible food in a beautiful location. The chef is a real master, working the line and running food to the tables like a boss. The menu is beyond the casual dining found in the area. The beers on tap are craft and the cocktails are unique; the prickly pear marg was delicious. The entire vibe was great for family dining but perfect for beers, specifically surly beers that were on tap, with the guys. Nice people running the restaurant. Would highly recommend. Gem of Lanesboro.
The food is good and the service here very impressive. They are short-staffed but still maintain amazing service. I hope to come back here. My only single small complaint is that I like my fries crisper than they served. However their fries are within the range a reasonable.
This restaurant far exceeds what I expect in a town as small as Lanesboro. Great ingredients and presentation. We had a large party and had an exceptional experience. Menu changes often so may not be relevant when others visit, but the mushroom soup, green been app, beef bourguignon, tortellini, and the burgers were all fantastic. I respect their creativity in making the most out of it to bring this quality of dining experience to a small town. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Lovely dinner tonight at Juniper's. The tortellini were soft pockets of cheese with San Marzano red sauce and 2 yummy pieces of garlic bread. So satisfying after a 10-mile bike ride. We also split a piece of strawberry rhubarb pie. Delightful. (I took a picture of the Triple Berry Pie since we scarfed ours down.) I took one star off for service only because the wine glass in which I received my Sauvignon Blanc was thick lipped and very small, making for a paltry pour. I should've said something. The young man who poured it may need more training. If you like food made from scratch with fresh ingredients, go eat at Juniper's.
A lovely spot for dinner and drinks featuring many patios overlooking the river and trail! We highly recommend trying the prickly pear margarita, it was refreshing, and you could truly taste the prickly pear. We also had truffle fries, perfect with the aioli sauce. For our main entrees, had the veggie bowl (it was very colorful) and the ravioli (cheesy and the perfect amount). We will be back!
An amazing gem of a restaurant. Had a next-level BLT with the softest most delicious ciabatta I’ve ever had. The fries were prepared perfectly. I could eat gallons of the mushroom soup. Nice outdoor seating by the river. The owners have a great story and we wish them much success. We will be back!
Cute little place we visit everytime in Lanesboro. A little pricey and limited menu options, but the food is very good! Love the outdoor seating, very scenic and protected us from the rain. Although if you don't want to sit outside the indoor seating was nonexistent. Payment was required before eating which was odd and unexpected on our last visit, so no true table side service other than for a drink refill.
The setting is picturesque, the staff was extremely friendly, and the food was amazing! They had something for everyone and even Gluten free options for my wife. We liked it so much that we came back twice on the same trip!
Oh my goodness, the ravioli was spectacular. Noodles cooked to perfection, just enough butter sauce, and the garlic bread was the perfect compliment (definitely not an afterthought). Tofu add on was ok, not needed for the dish.
Absolutely the best. A small curated lunch menu, lovely outdoor seating, and the best mushroom soup of my life!
Great setting with tables on the deck overlooking the river. I highly recommend the old fashioned for a drink and the burrata salad for an appetizer. I wish we lived closer, we'd be regulars here.
Great vibes, atmosphere is calm and just beautiful. Quirky little place to eat! Food was delicious and perfect!
Cute little restaurant that sits above the root river. The food was very delicious. We had the two burgers on the menu and they were both very good. The Karaage Chicken was probably my favorite! The fried cauliflower was well seasoned too. Everything we ate was delicious and would go back again.
Juniper's is such a great place to spend an evening or afternoon in Lanesboro. The food is phenomenal! They're raising the bar of quality and taste with a menu that's always got something classic and something fun and new. GET THE MUSHROOM SOUP and the cauliflower. You will not regret. I love taking my family and friends from out of town because it's such a relaxing, BEAUTIFUL place to enjoy the Root River on the patio, and their gorgeous planters create the best vibe. The staff is always helpful and friendly, going above and beyond to ensure guests are happy. Ame and Tyler are passionate, driven owners whose dedication to making your experience wonderful cannot be overstated. Highly recommend to cap your fun Lanesboro adventures!
Impromptu overnight trip to Lanesboro and found Junipers because it was across the street from where we were staying. It ended up being opening night and after going and listening to the other guests, it seems we were lucky to get our last minute reservation. Food was amazing. I had the street tacos and the flavors were incredible. My husband loved his burger and he's much pickier than I am. The pie at the end was the best. We're definitely talking a day trip on our motorcycles to come back this summer... Maybe multiple times
Absolutely Delicious food! My burger was one of the best burgers I've EVER had and the pasta is fresh and amazing. Kind of, Cafe style dining where you order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. The servers were awesome and friendly and let's not forget the view of the river! It's all outdoor seating on two levels. Definitely worth the stop for dinner after a long day of adventures!
I took my uncle to Juniper's for his 88th birthday, and we sat outside looking at the river. The staff and one of the owners were so lovely, wishing him a happy birthday. The other owner, the chef, we didn't get to meet, but he made both of us very happy! The food was delicious!
Great place to have dinner with friends! Looking forward to our next visit. Best to make reservations.
We had the best meal! So happy we stopped in Lanesboro. The mushroom soup was delicious.
This place was so picturesque. The story behind the name being the owners daughter is super cute. The food was amazing. I absolutely loved the cheesecurds. The flavors of my Mahi Mahi were so good. It was a little too done for my taste but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved sitting by the river and watching people enjoy the trail. Definitely will be back again! I got other things I wanna try on the menu!!
First time here. Heard total dollar amt and thought it was a little expensive. Until we got the food. So darn good. Had mushroom soup and BLT. Both amazing as well as the fries. Nice portion size as well. We split the BLT and it was perfect.
Wow! Food was fantastic. Dinner and a show. Highly recommend!
So tasty that after eating lunch there we decided to go back for dinner on the same day! We consider ourselves "foodies" and Juniper's will be hard to beat for deliciousness! I had the Veggie Bowl w/Chicken for lunch and the Ravioli w/Chicken for dinner. I would for sure order them both again!!! My husband had the Burro Burger w/Truffle Fries (which I sampled) for lunch and the Walleye for dinner. He too would recommend them both. We also had the Coconut Cream Pie which we are still dreaming about!!! Both the owners and the staff were very friendly. Pricing may be a bit higher than other places but IT'S WORTH IT!
This is a fantastic place! The owners took time to get to know us and share about the menu! Everything was amazing, good drinks, excellent cheese curds and the smash burger was delicious. My friends enjoyed the Tortellini and you for sure can't go wrong with the 5 star mushroom soup. This is a must visit in Lanesboro!
Absolutely amazing. Had a wonderful day in Lanesboro, to be finished off with the best burgers around. The views are incredible. The service is fantastic. We came in right before close. (8pm to be exact) They do close right at 8pm but they were still able to accommodate our party of 5. All 5 of us were extremely impressed and will be coming back for more. THANK YOU!! 🙏🏻
My boyfriend and I love this place. Food was amazing! Atmosphere was excellent. Service was friendly and great. We give five stars. Would recommend to friends and family.
I was very impressed with the great Customer Service at Juniper's. We went to Juniper's twice. The second time, I left my credit card there, but didn't realize it until the next day when they were closed. The manager/owner was very responsive, helpful, and cheery. They took the time and effort to mail me my credit card which was very appreciated. I highly recommend Juniper's - it's a fun, enjoyable experience!
Scratch diner with Gluten Free options. The food here was amazing, everything was so good, service is fast and the staff very friendly.
Very friendly staff, food was top notch, service was fast. Ambiance is very relaxing. We sat on the lower deck on a warm evening. Smash Burger is so good, doesn’t even need ketchup. And the pie - if pie is on the menu, have it. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie was best we have ever had!! Highly recommend dining here when in Lanesboro or to celebrate anything. Enjoy!
What a cute little place. We'd looked the restaurant up before heading in, and we knew what to expect. It was cool the way you walk in and see the kitchen and then go upstairs to eat. I'm sure that the deck would be wonderful in warmer months, but we were there on a chilly night so we ate inside. Everyone was helpful and friendly, and the food was delicious. We each had the smash burgers and shared an order of cheese curds. I would definitely recommend.
Excellent, quaint little restaurant with small town charm in Lanesboro. Quiet and scenic location next to the Root River. Beautiful patio area too. Very, knowledgeable, friendly sraff that give detailed information about the specials and guest favorites. Mushroom Soup was quite possibly the best we've ever eaten! Creamy, bisque-like flavor perfectly seasoned and loved the chive oil/popcorn garnish. Would have loved a gallon to go. My Buttermilk Brined Fried Chicken Sandwich was made with a chicken thigh instead of the usual breast. Made for a far juicier and crisper sandwich. Great idea! Bun was a little too toasted on top but, was quite delicious. Partner's California Burrito had excellent guacamole and fresh salsa wich packed a punch! Unfortunately, the French Fries didn't really work inside. Wound up getting soggy. Tender Carne Asada more than made up for that. Planning to stay in town for a vacation next year and would love to try dinner.
The pictures from other reviews pulled me in here and it is a cool location. It really does give a very neat dinning experience. They seat you initially and then give you a menu to look over. You then go inside to the register to place an order and pay. They ask at that point if you would like to pay in full or leave open a tab. They then give you a small order tracker thing that you place on your table and they come with your food and take the tracker after they delivered. It's an interesting concept and it worked fine for the setting. We were sat at a table with a broken leg that had been duck taped together but no matter what we did, the table tipped to one side and was wobbly. The chairs were plastic lawn chairs so you have to adjust them carefully. While we were there fairly early, we were sat next to another group that had just arrived as well and thought we could have been spread out more since there were many free tables when we arrived. These things considered, we thought the prices were high for our cramped, broken table. The food was good though. I had ordered the mushroom soup and husband got the salmon. It was tasty but again, the plastic chairs and tables felt like they didn't belong with the higher end menu. It could have been an amazing experience but fell short with our table and the fact that we felt a bit as though we were all herded to one area.
The location is stunning! Service was great! The concept is a little strange, but interesting. Food was good and came out quickly, but a little on the pricey side for a lunch, (burrito, and 4 small corn tortilla chicken tacos). I was however, very happy that the patio is pet friendly! Our new addition was the talk of our visit.
Cute restaurant with a beautiful patio space overlooking the Root River. At this restaurant, you order at the counter and then food is delivered to your table. The service was very friendly. I ordered the veggie bowl with tofu. (And I really appreciated that there was a vegan option on the menu.) It was creative and flavorful, and I would certainly recommend it. My only complaint was that I added tofu to the dish (which cost a whopping $6 to add!) and it was not prepared very well. It lacked flavor (many restaurants marinate or season their tofu) and the texture was very soft - no crispiness or texture. But overall, the food was tasty, and we loved this charming restaurant!
The mushroom soup had excellent flavor and the bowl was a great size. The cauliflower was filling and good flavor and cooked about right. The staff is friendly and the location is wonderful. The only downside was the veggie bowl. At $17 we expected a little more for an entree. In their menu picture it was a rounded "pile" where in real life it was level with the inner rim of the platter bowl. It had good flavor but if you order it as an entree you might need a little more if you are hungry.
Great location by the river. Super friendly people, food was tasty. Interesting approach as the staff deliver the food and pickup the dishes but don't take your food order at the table. Staffing is difficult for everyone. The Pumpkin Cream pie is a must have!!
Had to ask for refill. Plating, presentation was not acceptable considering the price point. Had to remind service staff that we had prepaid for dessert.
First, this place serves some of the best food in Lanesboro but it is very disorganized and by far the most expensive fast casual dining you will ever have. The dining experience is not what we expected. Tho we made reservations, that merely holds a table. The rest of the experience is basically the same as a Culvers, where you wait to order at a counter and then your food is brought to your table (but they also give you a beeper, have no idea why). The cocktails were terrible. Not sure if they were just made wrong or that is how they are. Both of what we ordered were terrible. The mushroom soup was spectacular. The fried chicken was very good. The pasta was boring. We ordered pie and to be honest, it tasted about the same as frozen pie from the grocery store. For every course, I had to go to the counter and wait in line. The staff was not rude but seem to be wandering without purpose asking people if they ordered the food they were holding even tho we were all at numbered tables and had beepers. Our meal, cocktails (2) and deserts were $127. I have been here a few times over the past few years and had the same basic experience. The location on the river is excellent. The food is above average for Lanesboro.
This seems like a fine dining experience with the exception that you have to serve yourself, but maybe that's not the case. The atmosphere is awesome, sitting out back overlooking a seemingly historic walking bridge and the river below. I spent the first ten out of twenty minutes waiting in line inside to order drinks and an appetizer, then our meals. The walleye inside the breading was very nice, but the breading seemed overcooked and very dark and crusty. It wasn't appealing. The grease used seemed old and dark colored. The tortellini likely went in at just the right time, because if the walleye had been removed from the pan on time, the tortellini likely would have come out warm, but it didn't. I really don't know what to think about Juniper's. Maybe the only things out of place are the setting and the prices.
Was a little disappointed after hearing that this was the place to go. Our fish was fried pretty dark and was a bit dry and under seasoned. Waited 30 minutes to get our chocolate mousse.
Expectations versus reality (Party of ten split check) The food was not great. We were a party of ten and we ordered street tacos, smash burgers, grilled cheese (kids meal) and cheese curds. The kids meals we're good and so we're the smash burgers. The tacos were nothing great but ok. The fries that came with the food were not something we cared for either. The presentation of the food was amazing and the service was not what we expected (good for what they do) but not what we expected. You order your self, get your own drinks and really everything is done by you. There are no waiters just a very happy manager walking around. In the end it was not what we expected for 25 ish a person. The pushing point was we had a member of our party ask about the bill and tipping as a tip was asked for but it's set up like a McDonald's style of ordering. Usually tips aren't a thing in that style. Not to say you couldn't tip bit we were still in shock about the service style and this member choose not to. The cashier then told the manager that he was rude and was a handful.
Last time we were there the menu was a lot better. They did not allow us to have the onions off our hamburger, they charged 3.00 for a plate so my husband & I could share.
First, I will start out with a positive. The positive is that we had a nice table overlooking the water that was it. We went in had a reservation for our anniversary waiting in line for 10 minutes got our table. Then we sat at our table with our menus for 20 minutes And did not see anybody come to bring us water or discuss with us the menu as they do usually, so, I went up to the desk and asked where our waiter or waitress would be. They said it is self serve. You have to come up to the desk and order all of your food. We were never told that so then we left our table, went up student in line for another 15 minutes And then ordered our food. Her food came. My steak was very overdone and incredibly bland. The fries that came with my steak were like curly fries from Arby’s for an expensive price for what we paid. It was not worth it whatsoever. I found the staff to be very non-welcoming And very overwhelmed and stressed. The communication I give a zero I would not recommend this restaurant I will never come back here if you by chance to go here make sure that you know to go up to the counter and order your drinks order your meal order your dessert order anything you want as soon as you can because if you have to go up there multiple times you’ll be in line for an awful long time by the way, this was a Saturday evening at 5 o’clock, which was very early, but thank goodness the company was great. My husband and I always make the best of it. No thanks to Juniper’s.
The owner has a very bad attitude!!! 1. The owner was EXTREMELY rude!!!! Very disrespectful!! 2. Service was HORRIBLE!!! Very unorganized. You get better service at a fast food restaurant. 3. We gave the atmosphere a 1 because of the rudeness we experienced. That turned us off to the entire experience. Fix your attitude and it might be more inviting. 4. It became very apparent that other customers were as uncomfortable as we were. 5. Food was so-so for the price!! Pretty boring. 6. Drinks were terrible. We order the same drinks wherever we go. Very simple to make. Not sure what we got, but not what we ordered. We were afraid to ask for something different. Not sure what kind of attitude we would encounter if we did. 7. This place is definitely not worth your money. 8. I sincerely hope the owner will learn professionalism and gain a true appreciation for her customers. Please take a course in customer service. It will serve you well!
