I work in downtown Laredo and visitors always ask me for restaurants to go to...El Meson is the restaurant I ALWAYS recommend. It is unique and the prices are good and the food is great. Their aguas frescas hit the spot during the hot Laredo days. Be prepared to wait a little because they always have people... but the wait is worth it!

Terrifically original and traditional, the real deal, grandma's menu grandpa trying to take the credit, family restaurant that would look like an attempt to be hipster anywhere else but Laredo, it is not the only place to eat in this town, there are a couple of other stops, but by far the best. Good quality mexican food for reasonable prices, great service in a family friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend the pechuga rellena con jamón y queso. Highly recommend the chicken cordon blue.

Love this place! Great salsa at the beginning of your meal and the Chipotle sauce is to die for. The broccoli sauce is amazing too! I love the spaghetti noodles that come with the meal!

The service and food is great. We had not been here for a while. Today we had the pozole, DELICIOUSLY GOOD. My wife and I shared it and we had the pechuga rellena gratinada. Pansa contenta corazon contento. Highly recommend.

Laredos hidden gem. The no sign on the restaurant lets you know what your getting yourself into. A backstage pass to the finest mexican eats in town.just remember they are opened only for a short part of the day only. If your not from laredo , i highly recommend. Also the prices are very reasonable.

Was in town for a couple days...heard about the place through the workers at La Posada hotel. Very friendly people...helped an English speaking american read their menu lol. The chicken was amazing. Awesome find if your looking for authentic Mexican.

This place has been around for a while and I hope it never closes. The food is mouth watering good! It's a small family owned restaurant, which makes it even better! They have a great tasting chicken cordon bleu topped with cheese and a cream of your choice of you'd like. The sides are corn, mashed potatoes, and green spaghetti! 😋 ITS SOOOO GOOD!!!! if you have not tried it, you must asap.

Great food, home style cooking. Keeping that in mind , I would suggest ask a neighboring table or server for some of the popular options. Particularly if it’s your first time here or if you are not a local. Tip: hard to find parking and very small dining area. So come early. If you come during the lunch rush - you probably won’t be seated for a while.

Spectacular food in an authentic location. Use your Google maps to find it as there is no sign. We are from New Mexico and accustomed to excellent salsas, enchiladas, etc , but el Meson was the best food we have eaten. That happened to us at 1 pm, so we took what was still available and loved it. Delicious. Best salsa ever.

It's not the first time we come to Rudy's for lunch but never reviewed before. Brisket and Ribs are great but pulled pork is a little bit below them. You could never go wrong having lunch here

Excellent authentic Mexican food! Enchiladas, Mexican rice, refried beans, chips and salsa were fantastic. Easy on line ordering; quick, easy and accurate food pick up.

Whenever I get the chance, I go downtown and visit El Meson. The food is awesome and no small portions. The Bernal family are always there to welcome you and they make you feel at home. Believe me, you won’t leave hungry and you’ll come back.

I loved this place, small but cozy. Friendly staff. Menu is in Spanish but the waiter helped me out. 1st time I was here I tried a horchata and it was delicious. I get that to drink anytime I'm at a Mexican restaurant that has it now. They have great enchiladas and a chicken cordon Bleu ( which never had at a Mexican restaurant) but it was absolutely delicious !!! Been here a few times. Can't wait to go back !!!

I was nervous because I don’t know much Spanish and the menu is in Spanish but the man who took our order was so kind and patient and speaks English fluently so he described all of their menu items to us and made us feel welcomed. We waited in our car and they brought it out quickly. The food was delicious.

This place is small, a lot of orders are to-go, but if you wish to wait for a table and stay, you will enjoy the owners’ hospitality and friendliness, something always welcome and refreshing in a downtown restaurant. Everything here is prepared with love and attention to detail, so you won’t go wrong with your choosing. I personally recommend the chicken cordon blue plate with extra melted cheese on top and the poblano (non-hot pepper) soup! Enjoy!!!

Hole in the wall eatery, family owned, quick service and good food. What's not to like? They have AWESOME green fire roasted salsa for your chips. Their specialty is the pechuga rellena (chicken cordon blue). Limited seating, and they are always packed, but it is worth the wait!

The salsa at El Meson is one of a kind and starts your meal of right. Today I had the guisada de res with a side of fideo. This fideo is really good. Carne was tender and tasty. Exceptional meal. One very small observation/ complaint. Why are you served with plastic utensils? The plates, bowls, etc are not disposable, so why use disposable forks and spoons? Not only environmentally irresponsible, but it cheapens the experience. This isn’t a fast food or taco truck. This meal is much better than to be eaten with plastic.

This place has the best food ever! My favorite is the Chile rellenos. I'm only giving 4 stars because it's a small place and lunch time gets really crowded which is fine but it is super hot in there; uncomfortably hot. The lemonade is great, too. Staff is very friendly. When you walk in you get a sense that everyone knows everyone there.

It was the first time going there for lunch and I heard amazing things about it, but I would probably never go back. The foods alright... and it gets packed that there isn't enough room to sit comfortably and enjoy the atmosphere. Your literally sitting right next to the next table elbow to elbow; bumping to each other.

The location sux. The food is good, prices are a little on the high side. The place needs a better vent system because once you leave the restaurant the odor of grease will linger onto your clothes for the rest of the day. They rush you to leave if you're there during a busy lunch hour. They need a better and bigger sign as well. Need to move to a better location with much better parking.

We all have jobs and we don’t come in with an attitude like they do. The guy who gave me my food just started to argue with me. I don’t care if he he had a bad day, I had a bad day too. My agua de Jamaica was watered down and costs $4!!!! Waiter only served and did not come back. Don't fool yourselves folks and believe that your getting a good bang for your buck.

We came from Dallas to Laredo to visit family. We were told that this place was great. The food is okay not all that! We were a table of 9 people. We all order our plates and we asked the gentleman if we could exchange some of the sides and he said yes. Well when we got the check it was ridiculously HIGH! They charged us for every exchange we did! Oh and just because I didn't want my sauce on top of my chicken the lady charged me $4! Every exchange was like $2!! almost $40 of charging for NO REASON! It was NEVER told to us that they would charge!! So I was REALLY UPSET! Not even here in Dallas do they do that! She wanted to tell me it's like if I go to Chilis and I ask to change the bread for steak that they will charge me. Of course that would be a extra charge Meat and Bread are two different categories! So dumb! I even told the old man who is there (the owner I believe) like hey it's not fair, and he didn't want to help! The cashier lady just wouldn't stop arguing! Even when I told her that I was done arguing, she kept going and going! I HATE IT! NEVER WILL I GO BACK! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!

Sorry the food was not good at all... I got the mini milanesa and my husband got the normal plate and they literally served both of us a small table spoon of cold mashed potatoes. The milanesa tasted like they fried a piece of cardboard, it was so dry and hard to cut, my husbands rice had too much spices/ flavor that it wasn’t good. the place was over priced. Another thing I didn’t like was that they gave out plastic utensils you couldn’t even cut the food at all. Also I had ordered a fideo soup and they literally served it in a plastic salsa container it was burning hot I couldn’t even put it in my mouth it wasn’t very good it tasted bad so I left it there. So at the end that we where trying to pay the lady in the front literally snatched the screen before my husband was able to put his information so he can get a receipt on his phone. First time I went last time I ever go. The waiter that we got was nice but that’s about it.

Went there yesterday with cousin they love to charge for made up charges. I recently had surgery so I couldn’t eat all my food and asked for a to go box they charged me $1.00 for it I was charged for jalapeños which I didn’t order my cousin ordered for herself and on her receipt she was charged for it already . If you ask for your Sauce on the side they will charge you .50 for the little plastic container. I didn’t get a receipt I was sent on my phone as well as my cousin they purposely do it so you don’t see what they charge you till you leave. Last time I went there they charged me $20 tip and the owner gave my grandma a sample of a piece of cake and I ended up being charged for it when it was suppose to free sample and was charged quite a bit for it . Just make sure they show you the charges before you pay and make sure they give you a receipt because they love to take money. Never going again

Came here after I saw that it had tons of great reviews on google. We were here for the day from out-of-town and needed a yummy bite. The place was difficult to find given the construction. Now let me be clear that is NOT what earned them one star! The food did! The chicken dish I ordered was awful! The cream of mushroom sauce was terrible. The chicken tasted like it had been boiled rather than grilled for more flavor. The veggies were nuked to a wonderfully dehydrated nutritionless existence. BUT the staff is super sweet and very accommodating. The place IS quaint and charming. The prices are unreasonably high given what you get! I was very disappointed and wanted to like it but truth be told my dish was terrible to say the least.
