Commerce Cafe Lockhart Reviews
Was our first visit, and will certainly not be our last. The service was great…our beverages stayed filled and we didn’t have to wait on anything. The unsweetened iced tea tasted fresh brewed - I am particular about “several day old tea” taste. The food was tasty and well presented. We tried the Not-so-common BLT and the Mushroom Risotto. Reasonable wait time on the food preparation. The BLT bacon was good cuts of bacon that were absolutely perfectly cooked. The eggs were just right…cooked enough to not be too messy, but not overcooked so the yolk was like a nice sauce on the bacon. The fries were perfectly crispy and potato-y. The risotto was creamy and a good consistency. It was seasoned well, allowing the mushrooms to be the star of the show. Great location, it’s right in the town square across from the courthouse. Will try it again based on our first experience.
This was a great find passing through Lockhart, TX! Food was artistically delicious and atmosphere felt like you were visiting a family friend.
This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a while. The food was outstanding, along with the amazing service. Everyone we met was very kind and helpful. You could tell that they all care and want to be there. They put a lot of effort into what they do and it shows. The food was seasoned perfectly. Every bite was a blast of unique, delicious flavors. I'd highly recommend checking this place out!
One of our usual and favorite places to eat. Every time we come in, the food is amazing and delicious and the service is super friendly. They have one of the best chicken fried steaks I've ever had and their steak is always perfect, you have to try it! My usual dish is the roasted chicken with the seared greenbeans and you can't go wrong with the fried gizzards and pickles or the popovers as a starter. This place is great for a date night, complete with cocktails and beer or a casual place to grab dinner with the family(they usually have a Monday night family meal deal). They can get pretty busy on the weekends or during First Friday but the food and drinks are always worth the wait.
Lockhart is more than just BBQ. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed Monday family night at Commerce Cafe—great food and great service! Servings were generous. As delicious as everything was, we couldn’t eat it all. Best fried chicken I’ve ever tried, hands down. Sides were on point and the biscuits had great crumbly texture. They were HUGE! We took home leftovers. I came back to the other half of my biscuit later that night, amazingly, I thought the biscuits tasted even better cold. Not sure why, but the flavors were even more pronounced after the biscuit had cooled down. All around delicious! We will be back. =)
I really enjoy leaving reviews for others, hoping it helps the next person decide. About Commerce Cafe, my family and I were amazed how good their food was. We ordered the family meal today, which was chicken fried chicken with mash potatoes, broccoli, yeast roll, and a Ceasar salad. Everything was perfection and the perfect portion for the family. Hands down the best restaurant so far in Lockhart!!!
This place is a gem, seemingly gourmet food at a fraction of the price. Servings are very generous, the Roasted Chicken w.mashed potatoes , carrots was the star of the show ! My hubby had the chicken fried steak , the sauce is different , but not bad . The crispy potatoes and roasted cauliflower are borderline addicting. Im not even sure I can put into words how spectacular the popovers are !!! They have a very unique but welcoming flavor . I’m glad we live many hours away cause I’d be coming here to cash my check every week . We got a slice of derby and a slice of lime buttermilk pie which will be joining us on our drive home , but I have no doubt they will be just as rewarding !
This establishment came highly recommended from a work colleague of mine as a suggestion for supper when I was in the area. I can say without a doubt, it definately lived up to it's praise. I try to eat local when traveling and the Commerce Cafe is as good as it gets. Farm to table foods that are prepared excellently! Atmosphere is small town with a little eclectic thrown in for good measure...and the staff is second to none! If you are in the Austin/San Marcos area, do yourself a favor, get off the big roads and make your way over to Lockhart and check this place out...you will not be sorry, I promise!
Food is amazing and the people that work here are super nice and friendly. The chicken we had was so juicy and fresh. The drinks are also fun and inspired by local events and places. They also have an awesome happy hour on Tuesday’s!
This is my favorite stop on the way back to Laredo. The food, atmosphere, and service never disappoint. I always try something new, and each time I'm even more impressed than the last. If you're in the Austin or Lockhart area, this place is a must-visit.
Stopped here on a whim and we couldn’t have made a better decision. The food was superb. Our friendly server suggested the popovers and I’m so glad we obliged. They were indeed ‘stupid’ (good) as our server said they’d be! She also suggested the chicken fried steak, which is what I ordered (pictured) and it was to die for. The gravy is different, but in a good way. The potatoes it came were with crisped to perfection, and the cauliflower was well seasoned and tender. We left absolutely nothing on our plates by the time we were done. We will definitely be back because I want to try the chicken sandwich!
best pasta we’ve had !!!! sides were fries and potatoes ( must order the fries and rouille sauce !! ) pastas were lunch special - chicken alfredo and pappardelle dessert (not pictured) were daily cookies of chocolate chip , yummy classic cookie - need to try others next time
I went to Commerce Cafe for a late afternoon cup of their wonderful coffee. I also ordered the popovers (when was the last time, if ever, that you've seen popovers on a restaurant menu?) They are wonderful, served with savory butter and shredded gruyere. And during happy hour they're available at a reduced price! The people here are nice and the dining room is very pleasant.

Delicious! I had the strawberry ricotta salad and bolognese entree. My husband had the Cesar salad and mushroom risotto. Portions were generous. Each dish was very good. Even the ciabatta was seasoned perfectly. I had a glass of sangiovese, which was good for the price. We each had dessert. I had chocolate cream pie and my husband had buttermilk pie. Both were good. The crust was fine, but clearly a commercial crust. We also had fresh brewed Rutamaya decaf, which was the right strength and temperature. For the price, the meal could not be beat. I would definitely make the drive from Austin to eat here again.
We ran across this cafe & decided to eat here. We were not disappointed as we had the roasted chicken with the Texas Strawberry Pecan salad. Definitely will come back when we are in Lockhart!
Y'all. Do not skip out on this place. The food is simple and delicious. The service is out of this world. They truly go above and beyond to ensure that needs are met. The food is cooked to perfection.
Great place to eat with great service, all staff members are nice, food always fresh and delicious, prices are reasonable, totally recommend.
Commerce Cafe has the best chicken-fried steak I've ever eaten. Hands down! I also really enjoy the popovers and the risotto. The service and the drinks are good. I really enjoy eating here.
The food was spectacular. Full of flavor. Wife had vegitarian sandwich (She's not vegitarian). So happy she ordered it. I had the BLT with fried egg. It was messy (egg was perfectly cooked) egg yoke ran all over lovingly. Fries were cooked nice and crispy with a nice salty garlic taste. We will most definitely be back! This was my 3rd time to enjoy.
We had a lovely family meal at Commerce Cafe. The service was excellent, and the food was outstanding. What’s not to love about housemade pasta, fresh tomatoes and basil, and delicious pies!? The risotto was the stand out. Can’t wait to go back!
Absolutely incredible gem!! Just passing through and walked by expecting a little mom and pop joint…. WOW. Such a friendly team, amazing quality food, all properly made. Nothing frozen or pre-made here. This is the kind of restaurant I’d expect to see in a larger city like San Antonio or Austin. Prices are affordable, and lower than expected. Dedicated non-alcoholic mocktail menu, and knowledgeable staff. Big props to Joshua and Tony for taking care of us.
I was taken aback by the chicken being left out on the counter as customers passed by to use the restroom, nearly hitting it and being exposed to germs. The staff was friendly, and the food was okay, but I will probably not return due to this possible health code violation.
This place is delicious and I've enjoyed everything I've tried here. My fiance and I visit Lockhart occasionally and we find ourselves here and taking family and friends instead of the BBQ! If you haven't had the chicken friend steak you've got to try it. The only critical thing I'd say is service is sometimes slow.
Commerce Cafe really hit it out of the park tonight. Their family meal was delicious inclusive of the chicken breast with the cranberry sauce and rice, sweet potatoes to die for, roasted brussel sprouts that were the best I have ever had, oh, and the Italian salad to begin. It was such a special meal. If you haven't eaten there, you do owe it to your palate to find time soon!!
Absolutely excellent food and a comfortable atmosphere. Would give 5 stars based on the Fried Gizzards and Pickles alone and the Pork Chop sandwich was also delicious. Big reccomendation! Hats off to the Chef! He's amazing!
I’ve lived in large metropolitans with great food, and Commerce Cafe is up there with one of my favorite restaurants to dine. The food is incredible, with great flavor pairings. The cocktails are wonderful. They are all fresh and nothing synthetic . The atmosphere is comfortable yet stylish. The service is always great. When I come to Lockhart it’s a must that I stop by and dine here!
Food was amazing! Wait staff was attentive! Atmosphere was delightful! It's great to have good food and service in my little town! Thank you so much Commerce Cafe!
I was in town for a small music video shoot and needed enough food for 20 some odd folks (to go), an assortment of food that'd ensure everyone had options and items they'd enjoy. Anthony and his incredible staff knocked it out of the park, to the point that I came back the following day once again placing a big order. The food was exceptional, but so was my experience interacting with the CC staff. - - - - - If you're visiting Lockhart area, definitely don't skip Commerce Cafe!
We really enjoyed the food, great veggies, and pasta bolognese. Also, they served yummy fries with aioli. The biscuits were amazing. Coconut cream pie was delish as well. Kind staff. Thank you!
I'm telling you this place is amazing, the food is cooked fresh in front of you (open kitchen concept). Unique spin on classic meals. Best eggs Benedict I have ever had!!! Each dish was amazig. Everything here is homemade at least from what I got for food.
My mom and I were a little hesitant when we saw the menu due to it being something a little different from what we're used to in Lockhart. We were pleasantly surprised, everything was delicious, I ordered the spagetti and my mom the chicken fried steak. You can see the food being cooked in the kitchen and from our observation, everything was fresh, the wait time was just a tad long, but again, your food is cooked on the spot. Worth the wait, very delicous.
I have had the chicken fried steak multiple times, with the red eye gravy, it used to have cauliflower and it was better than the green beans, my husband had a hamburger it was very good and the fries were great, I have had salad, I have had the gizzard, I have had the brownies. The cauliflower soup is great. The iced tea is very very good. There pies and deserts are so good and pretty.
The food is fantastic. It is a smaller establishment, so you can't do a big group, but it is worth the wait to split up & eat as tables become available. Everything I have tried is amazing from burgers, sandwiches & chicken. Excited to go back.
First time to eat here. A buddy of mine took me here and praised it on the ride over, and now I know why. Had the chicken fried with potatoes and cauliflower 😋 it was delicious, and the service was great too 👌 recommend you try it if you're in Lockhart. Oh,yeah. Great pecan pie also.
Everything was amazing and we even got a bar top on mother's day with no weight! Great place! Go the gizzards and biscuits with a side salad. My wife got the chicken sandwich. The fries and gizzards were perfect but I didn't try my wife's sandwich
Absolutely excellent food - first rate cooking, fabulous produce and reasonably priced. They were a little short-staffed on a busy Friday night but the staff they had were working hard to compensate while remaining pleasant and cheerful. My only real criticism would be the noise level being way too high. Some drapes or other sound-baffling measures are much needed.
This place is a diamond in the rough. The food is amazing. You can tell they truly care about customer service and the food they put out. Everything we had was AMAZING, the roasted chicken, burger, tomato soup, pecan pie and buttermilk pie. And the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you receive. We will be visiting here every time we drive through town!!
A surprising and welcome change to all the BBQ offerings. The food was great and tasted made to order. I would absolutely return.
My wife and I stopped in here to grab a quick bite. My wife had the Cesar Salad with chicken added, and I had the burger with bacon added. The burger was very well seasoned, and fries were cooked well with just a little crisp. I would highly recommend stopping in.
We frequent this place pretty often. The food is amazing. It's a more upscale take on classic diner. I have never had a bad meal. The staff has always treated us great. Highly recommend
Stopped in for lunch on Tuesday. I had seen the menu online and the place seemed like it might be good, so we went. What we got was totally unexpected for a "cafe" in the BBQ Capital of Texas. The food was quite elevated, as if it came from a fine dining kitchen. Even the presentation was excellent. They made great cheddar cheese and black pepper biscuits with wonderful homemade strawberry jam for a starter. I had roast chicken - which was well-seasoned and had a terrific mushroom jus - with a side of molasses glazed roasted carrots. My companion had the cheeseburger which ranked a "best ever"! If you live fairly close to or are passing through Lockhart, don't miss this surprisingly excellent little spot. Chef-driven, big city cooking in small-town Texas!!
Started with the popovers. 🤤The roasted chicken was delicious. Flavorful, tender, juicy. The mashed potatoes were also delicious. The carrots had too much glaze for my taste. Maybe next time, I will ask for less or no glaze if that's possible.
Truly superb food! The best meal I've had out in a long time. The roasted chicken and honey carrots had amazing flavor in a delicious complex sauce. The heirloom tomato salad was perfect, and the apple pie was heaven. Truly 5 star food for very reasonable prices. So much better than most upscale eateries in Austin 😍 Would drive to Lockhart to for the meal!
Everything was perfect. Drinks, dinner, dessert, and service. We will be back!
We went to a party last night at the Commerce Cafe Hall, upstairs from the restaurant. We were served a buffet style dinner of baked pesto chicken, roast beef (with a perfect horseradish sauce on the side), the most delicious roasted vegetables (cherry tomatoes, asparagus, green beans, mushrooms, and cauliflower in some heavenly garlic sauce), au gratin potatoes, hot and fresh brioche rolls, the Texas peach salad, and three delicious pies (one of which was a phenomenal, lemony buttermilk pie). The food looked delicious, tasted even better, their service was on point, and the hall itself was just beautiful. They did a great job of catering and hosting the party!! I have already sent out recommendations to family and friends about how delicious the food was and we plan on going back for lunches and dinners. A definite must eat restaurant!
Enjoyed a very late lunch/early dinner -- with an EXCEPTIONAL starter of fried gizzards and pickles!! Followed by spaghetti Bolognese and mushroom risotto (with airline chicken breast). Nicely presented and flavorful. (We left very little for the dishwasher to do!) Save room for dessert, because the strawberry buttermilk pie is specfabulous, and is set off perfectly by the espresso. As we were the only customers in the house, the service was excellent -- attentive without being obtrusive. Y'all stop by the next time you're in Lockhart! You won't regret it!
The food was excellent. This is first time I have ever had a chicken fried steak that was actually cooked medium rare with a pink center. Unbelievable. To me that added a depth to the taste that was off the wall and totally unexpected. And the batter covering the steak was cooked perfectly as well. I do not know how the chef did it, but he needs to take a bow. The string beans were also still crisp and cooked perfectly. The duck fat potatoes were also above par and stood on their own. Somebody knows how to cook and it shows in all the other dishes as well. My wife had the pork chop sandwich and it disappeared quickly. She said she enjoyed it with the aoli. The other dishes also hit the spot. The dessert of buttermilk pie had a very custardy taste and also was above and beyond expectations. So the food is excellent. The restaurant is a little noisy, but I suspect most diners like the ambiance. The service was good but a little slow at times. This did allow us to have time to visit and there was absolutely no pressure to leave even though we spent a long time eating lunch. We drove 2 hours to eat here and will do it again.
If you're coming to Lockhart to eat, try Commerce Cafe! It's crazy good. Best chicken fried steak I've ever had, and vegetarian options too. Delicious!! Update - We made the trip to Lockhart specifically to eat here again and it exceeded our expectations! Please try the popover for an unexpected delight. The menu offerings are amazing. My side of maple bourbon glazed carrots were the best ever. Amazing food! Amazing people!
We’ve eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the service is consistently friendly. Every visit has been a great experience, and we’ll definitely keep coming back!
Amazing seems like such an ordinary word to describe the Comerce Cafe. I had heard about Foreign & Domestic in Austin and was very excited to try this more local place. I was not disappointed! Try the pop overs! Incredible! Mushroom risotto for my husband that was deliciously creamy with a slightly citrus tang. Crispy pork sandwich was everything I could have wanted: sweet, tangy & and oh so crispy. Didn't have room for dessert, but next time... Til then I am going to be dreaming about those popovers!
***edit 3/15/24 There is a new menu! The honey mustard fried chicken sandwich is amazing! My teen has never liked honey mustard but when she tasted my sandwich she loved it and said the honey mustard didnt taste like most and is more of a sauce. The focaccia bread used for the BLT bun has been improved and is softer. Get the popovers! The new berry cheesecake was divine. Not too sweet or heavy... it was just right. I love all the sides and have more than once ordered just sides and no entree. ____________________________________ The Blackberry Buttermilk Pie is amazing. It's like a less heavy version of cheesecake. Love it! Watermelon water was refreshing. The gizzards and pickles with spicy honey appetizer was tasty. We'll be back.
First time visitor- We had a fantastic meal & service was great to celebrate my 80th birthday! Met a great couple & God Bless them for purchasing our meal. Great Americans!👍👏🏻🇺🇸 The owners are definitely Quality Managers!🫶 Thank you all for providing the fantastic experience! An absolute gem in downtown Lockhart. The popovers were fantastic. Chicken fried steak was absolutely amazing. Mushroom risotto was spectacular. Save room for dessert. The house made pies can not be missed.
Delicious food. They let us mix up the sides, no extra charge. The Brussel sprouts were perfect. Actually, all the food was super. Roasted chicken and potatoes from a different entree. One of few places you can find real vegetables, not soaked in butter. Service was personable. 70s Goldie’s background music. We will be back whenever we are close to Lockhart.
The best food I have ever had in Lockhart, hands down!! I've only been for lunch but the tomato soup and grilled cheese is so good! I'm not normally a tomato soup fan but it is obviously homemade and so balanced. The steak bites were amazing too. A must try!
Excellent food and customer service. We were visiting from out of town, looking for a place that served steaks. My husband had steak, I had chicken fried steak. We were able to see the chef prepare our food. Our server was very friendly and helpful, the chef has amazing dishes. Not your ordinary restaurant. The food was fresh, delicious and well presented.
Comfort dishes made at chef level. Excellent flavors and value. Can't recommend enough.
Sensitive to food allergies (Celiac). Duck fat potatoes were to die for! Can't wait to return on my next trip to the area.
I had the best Chicken Fried Steak of my life. The gravy was delicious and the steak was soft with perfectly textured crispy breading. Also the duck fat potatoes that come with it were so delightfully crispy on the outside and soft and yummy on the inside. The staff was really kind and attentive. I can’t wait to go back!
Holy cow… I’m not a foodie but this place is the real deal-very rare! It’s as home-cooked as you can get. It is EXTREMELY good. They know what they’re doing. I would highly recommend checking them! This is not a paid commercial. This is a guy who broke his diet to eat here and it was worth it.
Some of the BEST FOOD in Lockhart. Things you can’t skip: Biscuits, duck fat potatoes, Brussel sprouts, chicken fried steak, any pie dessert!! The lemon buttermilk was insane. The food was truly to die for. Scratch kitchen, amazing and unique flavors. You will not regret it!!
Great diner! Has a great eclectic spin on traditional diner fair. Coffee is delicious and all the breads were amazing. An Austin-esque diner with a Lockhart feel.
We ordered the Eggs Benedict, Stuffed French Toast and Biscuits and Gravy. And we all got yummy slices of pie to go. Food and service was excellent! A must try if you are in the Lockhart area.
Exceptional! We’re huge fans of Foreign & Domestic in Austin and have been wanting to get here for years. Space is beautiful, lovely views of the courthouse. Food was incredible. Best coconut cream pie I’ve had in my life! Their biscuits include sneaky cheddar cheese not listed on the menu which would be good to know about, but otherwise everything was amazing and we can’t wait to come back!

Cute cafe. Friendly staff. They make as much from scratch as they can. We ordered the popovers - absolutely delicious and their compound butter is awesome. My husband ordered the spaghetti and said it was good. I ordered the tomato soup - wonderful - and the caesar salad with grilled chicken. I would have rated the food a 4 until I went to eat the last bit of chicken as it was pink inside. We talked to them about it, and they were very sweet and gave us a discount. They explained how they cook the chicken, and theoretically, it should have been done so not sure what happened there. We will go there again when we're next time we're going through town.

I had the chicken fried steak, Molasses Carrots, grilled Cauliflower and this great butter cheese biscuit with a thigh. Now the only thing I didn't like is the chicken fried steak was very thin, way too much breading in my opinion, and it was kind of tuff, not tender at all. The chicken thigh was very good along with all of the other sides. I do recommend! The chicken fried steak could def use some work but otherwise it's delicious. Bon Appetit and Happy Eating!
The chicken fried steak was good. The pork chop sandwich is not recommended.
Food was some of the best restaurant fare I've had in a while. The roasted chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection. My husband's chicken fried steak was yummy, albeit a little too much crust for his liking. But the flavor was so good. I tasted the crispy duck fat fried potatoes he got and they were a real treat. Only thing distracting was the hot blast coming from the front door which opened continuously. But fresh, well prepared meal.
This was such a great find while visiting Lockhart. Everyone goes for the BBQ in Lockhart but this spot makes great dishes, all handmade I’m sure. We loved the tomato soup - excellent flavor and depth! Crispy chicken sandwich was very good and they make a great margarita! Place has a great vibe and friendly staff. Will be back on next visit!!

I only give this place a 3 because I didn't particularly enjoy the crispy pork chop sandwhich. Everything else was good. The fries were delicious. The staff were wonderful as well. A peer loved their biscuit so I'm assuming other things on the menu are worth trying. I would go again to try something else on the menu.
This is my second time there, and unfortunately, it did disappoint. However, the service was really great. She was very sweet, kind patient and attentive. For starters the burger was one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. We where a group of 9 and 4 of had the burger, we all felt the same we range in age, from 12 to 82. It was very dry NO SEASONING… bun was burnt. Overall just really bad, I think it’s time to go to the drawing board with that one. Same for Mac-N-cheese. The brown gravy doesn’t come with the mashed Potatoes, but it should, pairs very well with it. Carrot, delicious. Service phenomenal food not so much. atmosphere beautiful.
The coconut cream pie was nothing like I ever had it really had no taste, very dull not good & buttermilk lemon pie was good but very small & priced @ $7.00 ? Coffee was not hot at all even though they said it was made fresh..
Supper here on 3/23/2024. Convenient parking right on downtown Lockhart. We were seated right away, no wait time. Menu is rather simple and steaight forward. All available courses on one page. Interesting choices. Wife and I shared the chicken fried steak topped with red-eye gravy with duck fat fried potatoes and cauliflower. Iced tea to drink. Good sized portions. CFS was tough and hard to cut and to chew. Potatoes were strange tasting in their duck fat essence. Cauliflower was hiding under the CFS, but was tasty. Every table is close to the open kitchen and the entire space is noisy to the point that much of our table conversation had to be repeated. Shared entree with tip was $30+.
The chicken fried steak was good, but I was not a huge fan of the gravy/sauce. I did not like the duck fat potatoes. The roll was amazing. The tea was great. The only ice cream they had was not good. Was charged incorrectly for two items off the kids' menu. It was incredibly busy during lunchtime.
Other than the Rancid oil on seared green beans Was pretty good. The Cesar Salad was the best thing we ate. Chicken fried steak was skirt steak, tenderized? Was tough to chew. I mentioned the oil bottles left on hot surface would cause the oil to become rancid to the server she told cook but the bottles of oil remain there today. 🤷🏼♀️

Very pretty place but unfortunately chicken fried steak was tough and cold. We ordered two entrées. They came one at a time french fries were ridiculous cold and the grilled cheese kids did not like. We visit the Austin store and we were very happy. Unfortunately this store not so good ..Lockhart.Tx
We here for brunch with family. Im so conflicted . I wish this didn’t happen but it did. There was a hair in on of our meals and was found mid bite: the food was good up until that happened. The waiter picked the plate and said he would let them know. Oddly enough, a manager never came out to apologize, no one did. The waiter just said they would remake it. Unfortunately situations like this cause you to lose your appetite.
I really wish we could have loved this place! We went to try a new place, for my birthday, and it did not meet our expectations and ruined the evening. The highlights were as follows: attractive setup and nice tables and chairs. The bathrooms were nice too. The best part was the popovers. Those were very good. The vegetables were very seasoned, but I actually liked those. Unfortunately, the salad did not have enough dressing for my husband, and the chicken fried steak was lacking in flavor. My steak was chewy and weirdly cooked, the potatoes had a sour taste to them. The waitress did remove my meal from the ticket, and offered to have the kitchen do something else. It would have been more useful had she checked in with us after we got the food, instead of waiting until the end. Maybe it was an off night. 🤞
Well.. Customer service was great. Cheddar biscuits were dry and old and seemed reheated. Not a good experience - Tomatoe soup was bright orange and was too sour AND oily (more oils in it than actual soup). Steak was chewy and tough. Only thing that was amazing was the chicken fried steak. Also they need to keep tables cleaner for customers. My family prefers the other local cafes over this place.
The service was great! Food is extremely mediocre. Ordered pasta with vodka sauce and added "steak" Told server. I did not like red sauce. Meat was tough and chewy, and an additional $16. Unable to eat. It came with red sauce, which I specifically said I did not want.
I had the berger and fries. The fries were great. The berger was the worst I've ever had. Zero seasoning on the meat. They don't have any mayo or mustard so you are forced to use there special sauce nothing. I chose nothing so it was just tasteless meat on dry tasteless bread because the well done meat was so dry.
On 8/31/24, I tried Commerce Cafe for the first time. I was really looking forward to the steak I'd ordered. Turns out, the steak was grizzlie to the point that I struggled to chew it. Th staff offered to replace my entree for me; however, I did not have another 45 minutes to wait. They did not offer any other solutions. As I was leaving the restaurant I found a knot in the room of my mouth brought about by my prolonged attempts to chew the grizzle filled steak. Do not order it.
How the heck is this so highly rated? The burgers are a joke. SO SMALL. We were both starving at the end. And maybe worth it with flavor but it came with like 2 tiny slivers of pickled onion, and INVISIBLE amount of the green tomato sauce (litterally could not find or taste), under salted, over cooked, I have small hands. It was smaller than my palm. We asked for extra green tomato sauce, didn't help has almost no taste. The fries are not a whole side of fries as one of us ordered a side and it was twice as much. The mac is grainy and the kiddo hated it. Not traditional mac also basic unimpressive flavor. At 17 dollars for a toddler burger with no toppings on it and a shady side of fries..... yeah this little treat of a trip was soooooo not worth the price. The buttermilk lemon pie... just tasted like regular merengue. Zero flavor difference. I've had 4 burgers 4 different places in this town and this one was depressing. Won't be back. They are all presentation and hype.
