Âu Lạc Los Angeles Reviews
Great vegan restaurant in DTLA. Casual, but well heeled and decorated. Also a good value with a menu loaded with healthy good food. A must try if you are in DTLA.
I've been coming here for 11 years and its also my daughter's favorite vegan restaurant. Today we got the Mai Banh Mi, BBQ pork rolls, and Veggie Pho. The veggie Pho is the best Pho ever! My personal favorite will always be the Octopus mushroom plate with wild rice. The portions are large and pricing is very reasonable, other places would easily charge 80-90$ for these 3 dishes. Staff is friendly and amazing. Very healthy/authentic.
Finally made it to Âu Lạc LA and I completely understand why this place is so respected. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, and the food feels very intentional. I tried a mix of living foods and cooked dishes, and everything was flavorful, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. The olive cheese dip and wild rice dishes were especially memorable, and the newer menu items were comforting without feeling heavy. This is the kind of restaurant you visit when you want more than just a meal -- it's an experience that leaves you feeling nourished and grounded. Highly recommend taking your time here. The waitress was very helpful but service from all other staff left a bad taste in my mouth. Can't say the same about the food, flavor of every dish was absolutely on point 💯. As a sucker for good food and bad service, I will return for more.
This place was so nice, we came here twice! 😋 One of those restaurants where it’s hard to choose, everything is amazing! We tried the spring rolls, dumplings, calamari, octopus, living and noodle soup and curry fried rice (so good, especially as a leftover!) Everything is not only delicious and healthy but the presentation is amazing as well. The infused water is also a nice touch. If you’re looking for a yummy, healthy meal, look no further!
Fantastic vegan restaurant with bold flavors and creative dishes that even non-vegans will love! The menu offers a great variety of fresh, plant-based options, each beautifully presented and full of flavor. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. Portions were generous and everything tasted delicious. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for wholesome, satisfying vegan cuisine.
My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to eat; the place we originally were going to eat at was closed and we saw this restaurant. We tried it and boy did we get lucky…service was excellent!… food was amazing! We had never had vegan before: we highly recommend this place… regardless of vegan or not. It is some tasty food. You will never forget. Go try it!
For nearly 10 years, this has been my favorite restaurant in all of Los Angeles. The service is always outstanding, the food is some of the absolute best and most thoughtful you'll ever have, and they always have wonderful music, live events in the back room, and they do the little things to help make your experience even more memorable than it likely already is. Close your eyes and point to the menu a few times and you'll end up happy every time. I bring friends and family here when they're visiting, and I go with the Octopus and the shrimp for tasters and crowd pleasers, but the pho, the teas, the juices, the living foods, the Ito burrito...man! All so tasty. Highly love and recommend.
Aria is truly an angel! every time i come in, he takes such good care of me and always makes me feel special. his energy is warm, thoughtful, and he always goes the extra mile - even adding a birthday cake for me, which completely made my day 🥹✨ and don’t even get me started on the chef chips.. always the best! i’m so so grateful for Aria. thank you for everything 💛
Found Au Lac by accident. I was craving an authentic Vietnamese meal. Didn’t realize that Au Lac was plant based until I focused in on the menu descriptions. I almost changed my mind to leave, but saw the friends fries made of yucca. I order that and the clay pot soy fish. The flavor was amazing and I couldn’t stop eating. The friends fries was also great, the yucca was perfectly cooked and the sauce went well with subtle savory seasoning on the yucca. If you’re in LA and want plant based and vegetarian options with flavor, give Au Lac a try.
Outstanding spot for health-forward, athlete-friendly food in DTLA. The Ruby and Golden juices are excellent—Golden has a real ginger kick, Ruby is smooth and sweet—and they come in beautiful reusable glass bottles. The burrito was hearty and filling (I couldn’t finish it), and even better the next day. Raw baklava was light and delicious. Great bar seating with a strong fitness vibe. Love that Au Lac supports the annual Downtown LA Turkey Trot and sits right on the race route. Highly recommend.
I was so happy to try this place as I became vegetarian recently and I am from a place with little vegan restaurants. This place made me feel so comforted and showed that vegan food can be amazing. I had the pho ga, and it was much better than the “real” chicken phos I’ve had. My mom had the garlic basil noodles and she loved it and we both were shocked at how meaty her sausage tasted. We also shared a Vietnamese coffee with coconut cream and I really liked it as someone who really likes coffee sweet. Definitely would recommend to vegans and non vegans alike. My mom is not vegan and thought it was great.
It was truly a satisfying dining experience. I got to enjoy healthy and delicious Vietnamese cuisine at a very reasonable price. Even without meat, the menu was so diverse and creative that I didn’t miss it at all. The presentation was beautiful—each dish was a delight to look at as well as to eat. The juice and desserts were crafted with care, making the whole meal feel complete. Most of all, the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. This is definitely the kind of place I can see myself becoming a regular at. Highly recommended! Let me know if you'd like to adjust the tone (e.g., more casual, more formal) or include specific dish names or the restaurant name!
We just had an unforgettable meal at the stunning Au Lac restaurant where every detail, from the ambiance to the final bite, was pure artistry. Chef Ito clearly a master of bold, unapologetic flavor-took traditional dishes and elevated them into something transcendent. Each plate was a harmonious explosion of textures and spices, deeply rooted in authenticity but daring in creativity. It wasn't just dinner; it was a mind-expanding journey through Vietnam's culinary soul. This place is not just a must-visit it's a must-experience. Thank you to all the servers and Chef Ito
Ordered delivery from Au Lac since it’s a bit far but thankfully within delivery range! Paella is delicious and I would highly recommend this dish! Just the right amount of tangy and sweetness without overpowering the palette with fresh ingredients! Veggie pho has a nice flavorful broth with a good amount of veggies that includes zucchini, broccoli, and bean sprouts. The burrito was decent but soggy by the time it was delivered. I plan to be a repeat customer.
Visited on a Friday night around 8pm. Ambiance is really nice and perfect for a date night. The staff was so friendly and the restaurant is picturesque. We ordered the following: Salt and Peppered Shrimp: 5/5 Paella (living): 4/5 Yucca Friend Fries: 4/5 Pho Beef Ball: 5/5 Everything was so good!!! They have so many options and the waitress was really helpful in providing recommendations. The servings are huge! I honestly can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend!! FYI no alcohol is served there but they have really fun drinks and teas!
I come here WHENEVER I can. The food is soooooo delicious and fresh. Completely made to order so its steaming hot when you get it. My favorite dishes are of course the shrimp but also the lemongrass fish. I've legit ordered this around 20 times. There freshly made juices are also a must, I always get the jade juice when I come, it is such a refreshing treat, well worth the price. If your looking for a nice vegan restaurant don't hesitate to come here.
We went on Super Bowl Sunday, several days prior to Valentine's Day, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but at noon, we immediately got a table. The server was nice and gave great recommendations. Our food arrived pretty promptly, though I wouldn't have minded it taking longer since the atmosphere is so great. The salt and pepper shrimp appetizer is possibly the best vegan shrimp I've ever had. I also highly suggest the octopus (mushroom). Even the water was delicious. The only downsides were that (a) the server was spread a bit thin so it took a while to get the check and (b) the restaurant is downtown so parking was annoying. (Welcome to LA.) I will certainly be back -- and soon.
This visit was so disappointing. I haven't had bland vegan food in a long time. BBQ pork rolls 5/10 There was hardly any pork in it and no flavor to it. It was 95% veggies. The sauce was good, but might be a little too sweet for some people. Croquettes 4/10 Bland croquettes by themselves, but good soft potato texture. Expensive for it's small size. The sauce does not go with these croquettes at all; an off-putting sour flavor. Yellow Curry (limited special) 2/10 Absolutely awful. There was hardly any curry sauce in it. Maybe a cup. It tasted like water. The rest of my bowl was filled with veggies. The only good thing to say was that the carrots and potatoes were the only things that had any flavor for some reason. I usually finish my meals clean but I couldn't do it this time. Chicken Skewers 7/10 The most flavorful of all the dishes because of the sauce drizzled on the chicken. Fresh veggies and crisps, but I didn't like how soft the chicken was. Maybe it was undercooked. It was a busy evening, but our server didn't check in on us the whole time. Food was slow to come out. The atmosphere was classy. I want to give the place another chance because of all of the good reviews, but I am hesitant.
