J&G Grill Marathon Reviews
Omygoddd I am totally missing this restaurant now. Everyone who plans for Big Bend National park should stop by this restaurant and have their food and go. This restaurant is located in Marathon which is one of the last place before you proceed to the Big Bend National park. This restaurant is located inside ALON gas station. If you have to fill your gas this ALON is the last place to fill your tanks before you proceed to Big Bend. Well not just fueling your vehicle but don’t forget to fuel yourself with their food 🤪🤪 We ordered Jalapeño Poppers, Fish Burger , Chicken Strips , Curly Fries, Tostadas. It was tooo good. Being near the Mexico border I felt like it was a perfect Mexican taste and I loved the sauce which they gave. It as the first time I ever had that sauce in a Mexican restaurant. Well I loved it not sure if you might 🤪🤪 Staffs were friendly and don’t forget to get a snack from the store which is very yummy and has some spice flavor.
2nd visit: Returned a second time, after visiting Big Bend and ordered something totally different. The fried mushrooms and the green chile burritos hit the spot. The food came out piping hot and the burritos were spicy-hot. When in Marathon, this will be our go-to stop. The people are also super nice :) 1st visit: For a convenience store restaurant, this place was very clean. The tostadas and tacos (ground beef) were delicious.
Pleasant staff, clean establishment, delicious food. Nice stop leaving out from Big Bend NP. Ordered a double cheeseburger, w/ jalapeños and curly fries. Excellent : )
Very popular stop it seems! A steady mix of locals and travelers while I was there. Super friendly family owned and run ! I got a chile verde burritto. Just right on spice and size... Looking forward to my next visit to try some other choices. Gas here was 50 cents less than in Alpine, where I live. I will fill up here next time...
Fun/funky decor, simply and well executed American/Tex-mex staples. Definitely going to be back next time through town. Bonus, you can do your hiking laundry while you crush a delicious burger.

I dine in weekly at J & G Grill. Delicious, fresh, made to order food, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Juan and Gilda are locals who contribute in a variety of ways to the Marathon community. 5-stars across the board!
We stopped here for gas on our way out of Big Bend, and decided to grab food at the grill. It was fabulous. Friendly service, delicious food, if you are on your way through Marathon this is definitely worth the stop!
This was our favorite breakfast place in Marathon. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the made to order breakfast sandwiches and burritos we tried at J&G. The salsa was flavorful and spicy. Store also offers several types of individually packaged pastries. Self-serve coffee bar had vanilla creamer and more. Employees were very friendly. Clean tables and bathrooms too.
This was the best 6 dollar burger of my entire life. The family is so sweet and the burger is fresh and delicious. All the veggies were perfect. It was shaped so well. I wish I could come back for more! Thank you so much.
Quaint little gem in the desert. We stopped here as we were leaving Big Bend National Park. Prices were great and the food was even better!
Food delicious! Service amazing! Thank you for making our food right before you guys were closing. Truly appreciate it! If your passing through stop by and enjoy their delicious food! Thanks!
LOVE this restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is very casual and waitress have always been extremely friendly and helpful.
Nice surprise while exiting Big Bend. Fair fuel prices, VERY helpful and friendly staff, decent food and good service!
I got the mushroom swiss burger with curly fries, and my bf got the cheese Quesadillas. We enjoyed our meal a lot, their house made salsa is pretty good 👍. Highly recommend!
Stopped here on our way home. Got some gas and bought a few breakfast tacos. Excellent tortillas. Great breakfast stop.
YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE!!! A+++++ QUALITY! Should charge 2x more its not expensive but has the quality of a $20 burger for $5
Stopped here for gas and lunch on the way out of the Big Bend area as we headed home to San Antonio. The reviews are correct: Service is super friendly, the food is excellent, and it is a great place to stop when going into/out of the national park. Kudos to the entire family team and staff running this operation.
The ladies manning the grill did us a total solid today. My husband and i walked in just as the grill was closing. They made us two of the best double cheeseburgers ever. Fantastic burgers, reasonable prices, and wonderful customer service.

We got the beef quesadillas and they were delicious! The beef was well seasoned and they gave generous portions. I highly recommend this place as a lunch or dinner spot for when you’re on the road and need a break.

Got a egg and potato burrito burrito for breakfast and it was truly the best I’ve had! Super simple, but tasted incredibly fresh. The owner was super sweet and chatted with us for a little. If I come back to marathon, will definitely come to this place again!
Great little Gas Station Lunch Counter. We stopped here on our way to Big Bend. Hamburgers were ordered. What we received was a classic burger like you would cook at home. All with fresh ingredients and really good fries and onion rings. Limited seating but you can always go outside. Really nice people and really cold drinks.

There's never anyone there. Oblne pump is broken, so there was a line to get gas. Good thing it's CC only. But people got out of their cars looking for a snack or directions or whatever, and there was never anyone around. I had passed this place in 2023 and did not know that it's a 24hr station, so I thought there was no gas between Big Bend - Panther Junction and Ft. Stockton, back then.
