White Buffalo Bar Marathon Reviews
We had a wonderful time here the other day. Logan, the bartender made us an amazing margarita and took excellent care of us, we would come back again just to visit him! The bar is such a cool place, small, dimly lit with good acoustics.
Great Ambience, very historic, traditional, culturally rich! SCRUMPTIOUS Food- The steak, the mushroom tacos, Oyster Nachos, Brush fire Margarita, and the chocolate Brownie Dessert with Dulce Leche ice cream! Last BUT the Best are the two people who made our day 'Jason' and 'Corey', both are the Bar tenders; gave EXCELLENT customer service. They gave us Flawless food selections and Tourist Attraction suggestions, kept us interested, amazed and smiling the whole evening, that we forgot our long drive exhaustion. I will recommend it anytime to my Family and Friends to make their day!
Upscale watering hole in landmark Gage Hotel transports guests back in time with cowboy chic decor. Try the house, fresh squeezed margaritas. Next door, the 12 Gage restaurant beckons foodies with a menu of wild game and fresh picked vegetables and herbs from the hotel's gardens. If you plan a trip to Big Bend National Park, Gage is the place to stay. But, it's worth a trip just for the Gage Hotel experience. While there, experience the last wild stretch of the Rio Grande, take a raft across to Mexico for tacos, visit artsy Marfa for its galleries, and gaze heavenwards at the amazing night sky in a region declared a Dark Sky area.
Classic Country Steakhouse. Good food, great service!
The food here was amazing and plentiful. The bartenders were hard workers. The place was pretty busy but they were on top of everything.
Good drinks, had the brisket nachos as a snack that were absolutely delicious, And the bartender was super fun and on top of it! Definitely a great place to stop in.
Great bartending artistry by Cory. Ice cold, and I mean brrrr, beer along with the amazingly refreshing Ranch Water cocktail. 2 thumbs and 8 finger up. Double high 5 ✋✋You will not regret making this stop.
Excellent margaritas and ranch waters, great bartenders, and an amazing burger! There isn't much else in town, but this is the spot to be.
The best margarita in West Texas. Atmosphere is spot on. An oasis in the desert!

If I could give the bartender, Logan at 10 rating, I would! He was funny, engaging and made great drinks. The atmosphere of this bar is exceptional. We just had chips, salsa and guacamole but man! It was good. Definitely recommend spending time sitting at this bar!
They were a little bit busy. Food is good, the manager or the owner it was really cool dude from Kentucky super friendly.

Beautiful spot. The nachos were good and service was welcoming
Good drinks with hardworking bartenders. These ladies aren’t sitting around on their phones. I’d recommend the Brush Fire and House Margarita but they have a lot of liquor on hand to make you anything. I’d skip the nachos, it’s more of a quantity over quality with them. I was fighting to find crunchy chips as most turned soggy.
Decent drinks. Take note though, the kitchen will close earlier then advertised if slow.

Part of the Gage hotel. Nice little bar with a resort type feel. Good selection of alcohol, they'll make you the drink you want. Friendly bar staff.
Good bar next to the Gage. They only have bottled beer but plenty of liquor amd cocktail options. Food is good but pricey I suggest eating at the BBQ placs next door. Overrall worth a visit if in Marathon.

We were looking forward to this place. We had been told that the burger here was the best a friend had ever had. Imagine our utter astonishment when we went in and told we couldn't be seated without reservations. We were directed to the bar, as we stood there lost not a single person on the staff said hello, can I help you, wait a minute. We left after making reservations. The next night we learned there are actually two establishments and the bar is were we could get a burger. I have to say the burger was excellent and may well be the best I have ever had, but the sad fact is 2 women in a bar that don't order drinks become absolutely invisible. The server more than once walked away while we were talking to her and had to ask for a check and then had to ask for her to take our payment. The food was great but I refuse to pay to be disrespected and will never return or recommend this place.
Had couple of drinks, bartender was not social, I was only 1 in . Until my friends showed up, then went to patio. Bar guy was too busy listening to his music and getting shop set up to visit. No food available.

We just started making the White Buffalo Bar a yearly stop for us on our way to Lajitas. Unfortunately we won’t be returning. The atmosphere is amazing but the bar service was horrible. The female bartender who was working the evening of Dec. 27th needs to be taught customer service. Not only was she non welcoming when we sat at the bar, she was very rude to my husband when he asked for a second drink. Her response was, “it’s going to be a while, I’m having to make drinks for the restaurant as well”. We have NEVER had a response like this especially when it was obvious that the other bartender was making drinks for the wait staff. We patiently waited and she never made my husband his drink. She decided to stand back and have conversation with the other bartender while neither of them were making drinks. I’m sure it’s hard to staff restaurants and establishments in these remote locations, but I would think a place such as the Gage Hotel/White Buffalo Bar would do better in hiring who represents them.
⭐️⭐️ (2/5) Visited the White Buffalo Bar, located inside the Gage Hotel. This bar used to be known for its margaritas, but unfortunately, that reputation no longer holds up. The cocktails we had were some of the worst we’ve experienced in quite some time, especially considering the prices and the setting. They’re still using simple syrup in margaritas—which in 2025 is pretty inexcusable. A proper margarita should be clean, balanced, and fresh. We tried JP’s Margarita, Early Check In and the Spicy Cowboy, and neither one worked. Flavors were off, unbalanced, and honestly disappointing across the board. The space itself is fine, and to be fair, there aren’t many bar options in Marathon aside from the distillery down the block. But that scarcity shouldn’t excuse poor execution. Honestly, if you’re driving, you’d be better off bringing your own mixers and making a margarita in your room. Missed opportunity for what should be a standout spot in such a small town.

Just okay- maybe prior reviews were paid?? Too much lime juice in all the drinks- they all taste the same (a margarita shouldn’t taste the same as a drink with sparkling wine). Try seasoning some the food with salt. Crab cakes - eh, spouse says chicken fried steak was good. Bar has about 20 seats, way too crowded for a 10x20 space. Drinks $10-20, food $20-50. Not worth the drive to the middle of no where TX.; maybe try Marfa or Alpine? This place is fake trendy for a 40+ crowd. The longer we were here the worse it got. Probably could have walked out and no one notice…
