By far the best coffee in the Bay Area and beyond. Just know it will take 20-40 minutes during busy times to get your drink - worth it! Pastries are great as well. I will never stop coming here!

Delicious, small batch roasted coffee. Lots of room to work with multiple rooms and outdoor seating. Coffee is priced fairly about $4 per drink.

Living in the north bay or more inland from east bay it can be hard to find a great coffee shop. You are left with the way too sweet Starbucks style coffee that just doesn't work for really coffee, latte, and my mocha enthusiasts. Enter States coffee. I used to mostly go to their location in Benicia because I live closer. But I recently decided to make the drive to Martinez to enjoy the nice weather and was dying for a great Mocha so when I decided to come through. I was so glad I did. Of course it was easy to find a seat outside to work and enjoy a coffee. They offered to walk my mocha out to me so I could get settled. The mocha They made was artfully done and the foam was prefect! If you hate oversteamed milk that leaves you're coffee burning your tongue or the foam has bubbles like your doing the dishes then worry not. States is and should be you're go to coffee spot anywhere from Pleasanton to Fairfield to Antioch and Brentwood. I have been searching for good coffee spots for "real" latte lovers and you wont find anything better then States. Did I mention they roast there own coffee! Go run, walk, drive or bike to States and see for yourself.

Probably one of the best coffee shop and coffee roasters in notthern california. Their beans are so rich and very well priced. They also have such lovely staff which makes this large place a great spot to hang and work.

If you happen to be in downtown Martinez area do yourself a favor and skip the chain coffeehouse and go to States Coffee! Coffe is amazing and so are the pastries. My only complaint is the had the most amazing avocado toast and they no longer do toast. I recommend the Honey latte!

I don’t care how my coffee is made. I care that it arrives honest. At States Coffee, it does. The space is raw and industrial, flooded with light, as if thinking itself were encouraged here. You can work, study, sit in silence, or pretend you’re a philosopher unraveling something important. Friends talk softly. Dates linger. Music hums in the background, unobtrusive, almost indifferent. When the cup is empty, take a walk along the marina to round out the experience.

Best coffee shop in the Bay Area. I remember when they first opened and I was gifted a free coffee coin…. I should’ve kept it, probably worth more than a bitcoin now. They’ve expanded from their early days and now they are a premier shop. I always stop by when I get a chance. I miss the college days when I would study while enjoying a coffee at states coffee.

Love the simple decor and the latte was perfect. I sat outside enjoying seating in the morning sunshine. Will be back!

Delicious drip coffee and pastries! This might be the biggest coffee shop I’ve ever been to - plenty of room to work and hang.

Enjoyed the seasonal coffee, should have asked if the bread couldve been warmed up. Nice seating area, spacious, high ceiling. Has wifi, wasnt too busy around 9am on a Friday. Has a few larger tables for big groups and smaller seatings inside and out. Metered parking nearby. Also, watch out for that suspicious raccoon outside.

This place is good y'all! Coffee on point. Baristas are really kind. The space is large but inviting. The scone I had was delicious. It's within walking distance of the Amtrak station so it's a nice place to grab a coffee and a pastry before your trip. I highly recommend this coffee shop!

Best coffee I've had in a long time. Staff is great. They roast their own coffee on site. Lots of space to work or even events. It's simple... GREAT Coffee and a place to drink it. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Visited during a side trip to SF while on our honeymoon in Tahoe – States Coffee is a viiiiiiibe. The coffee is superior to anything I've had before. The atmosphere is well design and laid out – BONUS points for some of the emo music I heard there. The pastries (I've heard from my wife) are incredible...I just don't fancy sweets myself. Must visit. Must get to know the staff. This should be your regular coffeeshop if you're around the area!

States Coffee in Martinez is hands down the best coffee shop in town! What really sets them apart is their consistency—every drink is spot on, every single time. Whether I’m grabbing a cappuccino, a latte, or just a solid drip coffee, it’s always perfectly made. The best part? There’s zero coffee snobbery here. The vibe is warm, welcoming, and down-to-earth. They care about making great coffee without the pretentiousness that some other places seem to thrive on. The shop itself is a cozy, inviting space that’s great for catching up with friends or just taking a moment to yourself. It’s clear they put thought into every detail, and it shows. If you’re looking for a spot with amazing drinks and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, this is it. Highly recommend!

I found myself in Martinez during a trip and decided that since it’s early I wanted to get something to drink. A quick search led me to States Cafe where the atmosphere is cool, the drinks are delightful, and the pastries are just delicious. As for me, I ordered a decaf honey latte that as soon as I took I could taste the honey. It paired well with the banana bread I ordered as the sweetness of both balanced each other out. Now I wonder how it’ll pair with the pastries. Anyways, this a great cafe to come to if you’re in Martinez it feels small but it isn’t and it’s additional space for dining and family dining make it a both a an area where you can socialize or work, and a kid friendly establishment.

States Coffee Shop has become my go-to spot for a perfect cup of coffee. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it ideal for both catching up with friends or enjoying some quiet time alone. Their coffee is simply outstanding, with a rich flavor that beats any chain coffee shop hands down. I love knowing that I'm supporting a local business that cares about quality and community. Say goodbye to Starbucks and hello to States Coffee Shop!

What a cute little coffee shop! We usually go to the Benicia location which is smaller and way more crowded. Happened to be in Martinez and had to stop for a ginger matcha latte, so good. I’ve heard their pastries are amazing but honestly I just always have to get an avocado toast and a Nutella toast. They’re definitely on the pricier side but so worth it. Employees are always friendly and in a good mood.

Not sure why so many overall stars. Cool atmosphere and interesting design. Especially enjoyed the coffee machine in the second hall. Gibraltar coffee was flavorful however bitter. Roast was not mentioned while ordering. Location is nice and staff was pleasant, although hard to hear through the mask. Will have to give it one more try to hopefully increase the rating.

Used to love this place but the coffee made me sick. Couldn’t finish it, tried asking them to remake it where they made sure to tell me it’s my fault because they make their cappuccino like a latte. What? Anyway, not even cute foam art & they don’t sell avocado toast anymore. Blah! I won’t waste my time driving over there anymore. Also parked outside and got a tool stuck in my tire. Lovely!

Disappointing Then, Disappointing Now I don’t usually write negative reviews, and I especially don’t revisit places years later — but this one feels worth documenting. I originally visited this coffee shop in 2021 and had a genuinely unpleasant experience during the height of COVID. The policies themselves weren’t the main issue; it was the attitude. Interactions felt cold, condescending, and unnecessarily harsh, to the point that it overshadowed the mediocre coffee entirely. When I shared feedback at the time, the response I received was dismissive, and I was ultimately blocked rather than heard. I noticed that Yelp removed any review having to do with cobid and masking for "violation of community terms", although that is exactly what was relevant and made me want to visit or stay away from a business back then. Fast forward several years later: we’ve since moved away, but my husband stopped in last week, not remembering our previous experience. Unfortunately, his visit confirmed that little has changed. The same rude tone, lack of warmth, and unwelcoming environment were still very much present. Coffee shops are often community spaces — places people go to slow down, connect, and feel welcome. Sadly, this shop has repeatedly missed that mark. There are plenty of places that serve good coffee without making customers feel like an inconvenience, and I’d recommend seeking those out instead. I truly hope the owners eventually take feedback like this to heart, because it’s not about politics or policies — it’s about basic kindness and respect.
