😋 Black Bear Diner in Mesquite. It is decor in a cabin like setting with Bears as it theme. It is cozy. The diner is clean, as well as, the restrooms. You can set at a table , booth or counter. It is a diner and the food reflects that. I had the chicken fried steak with salad and fries. Very good. Their menus are newspaper style. If you enjoy Diner food, then come to the Black Bear.

This was a hidden gem we didn't know about!! Homestyle food and breakfast all day. Very cute decor and lots of great looking desserts in the pie cooler. HUGE biscuits and warm syrup served with your pancake. Our waitress was very nice and attentive.

Great place to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. They weren’t too busy so we got our food rather quickly. It was so delicious. The portions are big and priced well. I will be coming here again definitely!

My first time here, went out with family N I Loved the French toast it was stuffed with blackberries, the bread was VERY SOFT. The server was very polite N she was training a newbie she did an amazing job doing that! Her name was Kaitlyn the customer service was amazing, plus the food was delicious!!! I’ll most definitely be back

Imagine my surprise that Black Bear had my ultimate favorite breakfast that I grew up with in Idaho - blueberry pancakes and they were cooked to perfection. So many places put blueberry pancakes for to be a pancake with pie filling on top! These were fluffy and so delicious!! I will be back and will keep an eye out for other locations. ❤️❣️

First time visiting Black Bear Diner. Highly recommend this homestyle type restaurant. My patty melt was cooked my way, medium and the sourdough bread was very good quality. My daughter enjoyed her hot open faced turkey sandwich. Real mashed potatoes and great quality turkey. Stop in sometime for down home diner type food.

AAAAMAZING!!!! So glad to have a new place on this side of town and SOOOO GOOD!! we went on Friday for breakfast and enjoyed it so much we went back again on Saturday!! Biscuits and gravy are tasty and the black berry stuffed French toast...... OMG..... JUST ORDER IT!!! Staff is friendly and attentive. The decor is relaxed and homey with cute cabin vibes. We've already "been back" and we will be going back again soon with family and friends.

You get a large portion of food at a good price. I got the 2 egg breakfast with smoked bacon. All of it was really good. Pete was my server and he made sure I was taken care of, checked on me often and even brought me another drink before I even asked. Observation in small things like that makes a customer happy. The cashier J was also great. She smiled, laughed and enjoyed what she does. Great job on the service in within my visit from my waiter to checkout!

Our third time here. It was great the food was delicious. The only downside to today visit was the wait time for our food. I hope on our next visit we don't have to wait as long as we did today. I recommend this place for you to try the wonderful food.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere, great music just a great experience. If you want to have a great time at a diner forget Dennys, Black Bear Diner is head and shoulders above. The chicken fried steak was so good the only way to describe it woul be a sunset on a plate. The biscuits were so big and delicious it was as if they were birthed instead of made. Eat here eat here eat here.

Mesquite needed a place like this. Better than Cracker Barrel, IHOP or Dennys. Was blown away by the menu, they have it all and MORE. Breakfast all day long, huge portions. The Biscuit was absolutely the biggest and best I have ever seen and enjoyed. Could not eat it all. Hashbrown potatoes were made fresh and delicious, also Best ever. I had the Chicken fried steak with 2 eggs, what I get at the other guys, hands down awesomeness. Service is top notch, well trained and best available. The menu as I said, was so large, it comes in newspaper format. They have plates that you never see anywhere else- spicy or mild Italian sausage in gravy? My business lunch partner loved it. Took a plate home to the missus, huge ham steak and creamy pancakes, melt in your mouth. We can't wait to try it again soon. I see that this is going to be a regular destination.

This is a fantastic spot for breakfast! I love their breakfast deal, chocolate chip pancakes and crispy bacon is always a go to meal while running out and about town. The service is always friendly and sweet. My coffee cup is never empty.

Just had a wonderful family breakfast at Black Bear Diner. The staff is courteous and attentive. I ordered the Bears Choice Breakfast with 2 scrambled eggs with cheese, ham steak and sweet cream pancakes. The scrambled eggs were nice & fluffy with plenty of shredded cheddar cheese. The ham steak had a wonderful flavor both sweet & savory. The sweet cream pancakes were like pillowy clouds on my plate & the best pancakes I’ve ever had. My mom ordered The Original ScramBowl with scrambled eggs, candied jalapeños (she got them on the side), potatoes, bell peppers, cream gravy, cheese & bacon. Hers even came with a homemade buttermilk biscuit the size of a softball. She was pleasantly surprised at the size of her meal it’s safe to say she had leftovers. Mom gave her breakfast a 5⭐️ rating. Y’all get over to the Black Bear Diner!

Christavious was very friendly, patient, and welcoming. It was our very first visit the breakfast was very good my wife Norma and I (Ced) enjoyed it and we will definitely be back to see Christavious. The manager Dalton was spot on with any other questions or concerns besides our server who helped 110%.

Breakfast was good. I had "the grizz" at The Black Bear 🐻 Diner. The sampler of bacon, ham, sausage links, 3 eggs,a bowl of grits and pancakes was enough to hibernate. The meal was filling. The server was respectful and patient. It took me a minute to decide what I wanted. I made a good choice.

The newspaper menus did it for me! I love the atmosphere, and my waiter was on point! My coffee stayed filled, and my food came out so quick! The food was seasoned and very tasty. The atmosphere is chilled and relaxed. A very family oriented place, which was nice! I would go back here anytime!

Our first time at Black Bear Diner and it's was fantastic! I loved it! We came on Saturday early afternoon, we were sat right away and soon after our server came to take our order. They have a huge menu selection... I ending up ordering The Grizz (huge portion) with 2 butter pancakes. My husband ordered the Scrambowl. Everything was cooked perfectly AND coffee was amazing! Strong just the way we like it! Our server gave us a little back story on the coffee... it comes from Nicaragua, for each cup sold they donate to help build schools in Nicaragua. I love that! Overall, food and service were great! We will definitely come back!

This place is a hidden gem for Mesquite. Very friendly staff. I love the decor. California Burger was great the berry cobbler with a scoop of huckleberry ice cream was perfect. I recommend for anyone. The desserts are big enough to share.

Ms. Desirae was a waitress on top of Job. Very welcoming place. The food was good as well and I love that the portions are great. Pricing wasn’t bad either for the amount of food you get. My bestie and I will be back.

Johnny is SIMPLY THE BEST! Johnny was our server when we visited on a Sunday. He took our order gave recommendations and even tried out my husband's drink to see how it tasted. He ordered half Dr. P and half Lemonade. I thought it was pretty cool that Johnny never heard of this type of drink and decided to try it for himself getting know what we liked. Anyway, our food came out quickly and was prepared as we hoped. At first I thought my waffle was burnt due to the color but it wasn't. Johnny followed up with us several times throughout our meal with refilling our refreshments and more syrup. Johnny left us with a remarkable feeling with his friendly, inviting, selfless service which makes us wants to return often. Outstanding! Whomever hired Johnny, THANK YOU! Please find more employees whom exemplifies his service from the heart. I hope someone sees this and rewards him for his service. Not just a pat on the back, handshake or certificate. Love this place! Special note...we need one in Forney, Heartland, Crandall or Terrell please!!!!

Tried this place out with some coworkers for the first time and let me tell you it is so good! I got their special - 2 eggs, bacon, and French toast and I added a side of hash browns. Everything was cooked perfectly. And coffee was good! My coworker got a chicken fried steak that came with biscuits and gravy and my goodness they were massive! Service was lovely and I can’t wait to come back

The food was great, our waitress was attentive and kept us in drinks and made sure our needs were met. The place is super cute, BEARS everywhere which we love cause everyone calls my husband Bear. The menu was a literal newspaper, never seen that done before, super cute. TONS of options even vegetarian options available. The pies are too cute and look soooo good, I had the blackberry bear claw french toast and I was not disappointed, it is delicious. The breakfast plates are HUGE, I'll definitely be ordering from that menu next time. I have never seen a biscuit so big in my life! Very delicious and soft and fluffy.

The food was very good. The place is usually very busy but when we went it was for breakfast right after they opened at 6am so we started out as the only guest. Only small complaint was that all the silverware was dirty , but that's probably the dishwasher not a individual person's fault. Plastic throw away silverware was offered. Again food was very good and the restaurant reminds me of one in Colorado or Montana , it was good.

5 starts on the Food, 3 stars on service, & most definitely 5 stars on the atmosphere. Great music, great food, friendly staff. By not everyone il tell you that much. Ben he a couple times. My first time was a great experience. Kaitlyn was great she was friendly and helpful. But one fellow stood out of everyone I didnt get his name but he was a happy guy. Tall black gentlemen. Love the menu. Very original as y'alls menu is a newspaper. Everything was amazing through my first visit. My second time not do much. My server took roughly about 10 min to get out drink order. 2 Ice Teas & a coffee. Finally order after 25 min of being in the restaurant and the food took a bit longer than expected. But after my food was served I forgot about the time. And man was it satisfying this time I order the Western BBQ Burger&FF with Chilli w/cornbread. My Father had The VOLCANO and Girlfriend, The Original ScramBOWL. Everything was Very delicious truly recommend this amazing Diner. A TRUE HIDDEN GEM and totally Original Diner.

I went here as I wanted to try a breakfast spot that was affordable and in driving distance of the hotel. The outside and indoor decor reminded me of my time living in Alaska. The food was good and the service was excellent. I visited this place as an out-of-towner and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy breakfast spot that fills your belly.

Time we walked in the door we were greeted and seated by an awesome waiter. We didn't have to wait long on our drinks or food, that was a Hugh plus. The pictures say it all. Everything and I mean everything my husband and I ordered was fresh, delicious and hot!!! I ordered the two egg meal, with grits, mild homemade itatian sausage, and a pancake that came with hot syrup( some places don't give you hot syrup)... My husband ordered the same two egg meal but with bacon, hash browns and grits. Coffee was fresh and hot, apple juice wasn't watered down. Our waiter paid close attention to our table to refill drinks if needed or to see if we needed anything. The atmosphere was very relaxing and pleasant. Lots of Bear item, hence the name of the diner. We will definitely be back again. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner... Stop by for a visit when you're in Mesquite tx, you will not be disappointed.

Five stars - I’ve only ever DoorDash’d but tonight the family dined in. Plenty of room for our large group. Food was great and portions were plenty. My group is already discussing what we’ll have when we come back. Our waitress was Bre. She was nice and attentive.

I've heard the breakfast is their busiest time of day, but this place is the diamond in the rough for an evening meal. No waiting to be seated! There is a lot of seating, nice restrooms, there is even a small area to find merchandise. They have a chicken fried steak that can't be beat! Reme.ber Wyatt's Cafeteria, it's like theirs but larger, and you can cut it with a plastic spoon. The batter on the steak is good and it fits the steak, none of the batter running an inch past the steak. Great gravy, large fresh salads, and they have sweet potato fries! You really need to give them a try if you haven't already. If you have & had forgotten because you're in a different area, revisit them. Too many places are closing & this needs to stay here. They are open Thanksgiving!

Food was delicious, service 10/10, from the moment we walked in. Cassitey was amazing. She made sure we got our food right away. We will definitely be coming back. Very cozy, it feels like we are out in a small town dinner. The bear mural at the back wall is beautiful, and every detail is perfect. The restrooms are very clean. I guess I just felt so relaxed and comfortable here. 🫶

I've been trying to find the perfect chicken fried steak for months now. This was it! Unbelievable portions for the price and the food was some of the best quality for a diner I've ever had. It ran us around $60 for a family of 3, and we got extra stuff, so the prices were good. IHOP is terrible, we all know this, but with places like this, it amazes me they even have the ability to exist at all. I can't believe I slept on this place, I'm stoked to come back in the future.

We were invited to Breakfast by our Son and Daughter-in-law and this is the location they chose. It was our first time. As soon as we walked in, everyone was nice. They were prompt to get a table ready for 8. Our Server was very nice, courteous and got all our orders right. The portions were large and very good. The atmosphere was so cool I could hardly Bear it, no-pun intended. I will go back to try something else besides Breakfast.

From beginning to end, this was a great breakfast experience! Our waitress Kaitlyn, make sure we understood everything about the menu from beginning to end. The general manager, Matthew Shepard, came by to visit our table and explain to us how everything in the kitchen is scratch made, and even brought us a scratch made biscuit to try, fresh from the oven! It was phenomenal by the way! I ended up getting the vegetarian omelette meal, with fresh fruit, toast, and a side of grits. All of it was phenomenal. I love the fact that the grits were not greasy, and I was able to add my own toppings to them. Luis ended up getting the volcano breakfast that came with three pancakes, eggs, sausage links, bacon, and he got a side of sausage patties. He really loved everything, but he admittedly said the pancakes were his favorite part of the entire breakfast. Can I just say that the atmosphere itself is great. Our waitress was fantastic. She was bubbly and kind while at the same time being very informative about the menu and different options we have. I have never been here before, but I can honestly say that I look forward to coming back. I would highly suggest that you go visit them as well. Especially since their entire menu is available all day long. What else is better than breakfast for dinner, am I right! Until Next Time, #KristinaWrites

This is the cutest and coziest place in town. Had breakfast for dinner and it was delicious. Sweet cream fluffy pancakes and thick cut hash browns were yummy. Delicious coffee and tea as well. Daniel was an amazing server! Fun, friendly and helpful, always attentive and kept the hot coffee coming. Thank you Daniel for an enjoyable experience! 😊 I don’t usually give reviews but I felt this one was well deserved!

I have loved everything I've had here until today. My daughter ordered a side of half onion rings half french fries basket yesterday. The fries were room temperature with no seasonings on them and they were limp. I ordered the breakfast beef hash plate. I wasn't a fan. I've enjoyed everything I've tried there since they opened for business until this particular time. The pancakes are always great. Her boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak plate with biscuits & gravy for his side & he loved it.

Wow, wow, WOW! This place has a breakfast that is OUT OF THIS WORLD delicious! First and foremost, Daniel our server tonight was AMAZING! Friendly, consistent with service, exceptional and a well rounded fella. He answered all of our questions, listened and was quick with service. The food, WOW, best pancakes I have ever had, ever in my life. Fluffy, thick, warm, slightly sweet. I could hurt myself with those pancakes, they're dangerously good. The biscuits HUMONGOUS in size, fluffy, soft, great flavor. The hash browns, never had hashbrowns like that and now hands down my favorite way. The orange juice, FRESHLY SQUEEZED and you can tell, so good. 100 out of 100 recommend this place! Check out was a breeze, Darrel our checkout host was kind, friendly and offered us a bag for our to go trays, we shared a joke and laughed. Great place, great folks and I'll continue to come here.

We came here for breakfast while visiting my friends. The wait was a bit long but they got us in fairly fast for a party of 6. The service was top notch 👍🏻 or server was friendly and our food was out pretty fast. The atmosphere is very cozy with bears 🐻 carved into the wood, reminds me of a mountain cabin. We will definitely be back again. I had the eggs Benedict it's was great.

This was our first time trying Black Bear Diner. We had just left a 9am basketball game and it was too early for lunch, and there aren't tons of sit-down breakfast options around Mesquite (aside from Denny's and IHOP which we don't care for). Tried this place and it was a hit. It has a cute rustic bear theme vibe. Our waitress was friendly and our food was good. Kids had pancakes off the kids menu, our oldest had the cinnamon roll french toast and we had breakfast plates. Would to back again for breakfast and would try for lunch or dinner as well.

I was so happy to learn there was a Black Bear in driving distance! I only knew the one out in Los Angeles. Now they're here! The decor is charming, the servers are kind and helpful. But the food! It was the same thing I craved - the parmesan sourdough cheeseburger is so good and there's even a breakfast version. I enjoyed the sweet potato fries too. The portions are generous, even when it's a side salad. It's some of my favorite comfort food - and now it's available to me more than once or twice a year! I look forward to trying all of the other things I've been intrigued by over the years, but never had the chance to get. (And go ahead and get to go containers for leftovers, so far everything's reheated well.) Thanks, Black Bear!

I got the Fried Steak Omelette, cheese grits, biscuits with gravy and the Huckleberry Lemonade to drink. My biscuit was hard on top and impossible to eat. I sat at the bar and the server was pretty, attentive and polite. The food was great and the fried steak was juicy and well seasoned! Lemonade was great till the last slurp, it was my first time but not my last! Thank you for the great food and service!

For some reason our waiter was very rude and kept ignoring us. The food was awesome. Will go again, but make sure not to sit in his section UPDATE: The manager reached out to me and apologized for the service received and to offer me and my husband a breakfast on them. So we went today, Guy wasn't there but the manager Darrell honored Guy's offer. It was the best breakfast and service I've had in a long time. Our waiter "T" was very friendly and attentive, we had no problems with the food or the service. With that being said, I have found my new breakfast spot. Thank you Guy, Darrell and especially our server "T"

The food here is always great and management makes an extra effort to make sure all the customers are attended and happy. Occasionally there will be a less than enthusiastic employee but not enough to ruin the visit, after all everyone has bad days. I highly recommend their breakfast options. Somehow they manage to make everything just a bit better than the standard commercial breakfast.

The interior and exterior of the establishment was clean. Our server Melissa was super sweet, accommodating and swift. Very friendly with our child and offered suggestions on our next visit which we definitely plan to plan. The portions, the temperature, the taste was all on point. The breakfast was beautifully plated. I could eat those crispy yet soft seasoned fries alone 😅 The price was well worth it. Very pleased with my first time visiting.

Wow! This is the best breakfast we’ve had in Mesquite. The food was well-seasoned and flavorful. The service was incredible. Our server anticipated every need we had and we couldn’t be more pleased with her service. The food was brought out promptly, and there’s no way you leave this place hungry for about $15! We also enjoyed the cold brew coffee! 10/10

Nice new place in restaurant row in Mesquite. Everything is good here and made with fresh ingredients. They have a big variety of menu items to choose from ranging from breakfast, lunch and dinner served all day, however, some things they didn't have like salmon, nor side salads. This place has been open for just a month, but surely they'll have every item on the menu available. My family and I had a great first time experience and would love to come back as there is so much more to try.

Enjoy going to black bear diner for breakfast. The service has always been good! One thing that I do have to complain about is that their entryway and lobby area the floors are super sticky. So I’ll be nice if they focus on the cleanliness

Food was really good with large portions. Service could be better (it wasn't even a full restaurant, so not sure why the service was slow). This was a half way meeting point with the others in our party (our daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandkids), It is too far to be a regular place for my husband and I to eat but would for sure meet up again for breakfast and take the grandkids off my daughter's hands for a sleepover.

Good local place in Mesquite. The ambiance is really themed based and they lean into it. The menu is really breakfast and honestly good. I had their blackened salmon with pesto on it with mashed potatoes and onion rings. Their biscuits are their star attraction I believe as those were delicious. You should try it.

Our first time a friend in Sacramento recommended. They were busy when we sit our waitress came and maybe was her worst day or we don't know but , rude so rude like amazingly rude. We go with our friends and we agreed on it. When the food arrives was perfect presentation and taste, huge amounts. Timing was ok for how busy. Affordable and nice place. We are going to give another opportunity.

Our experience was great the wait was right on time. The server was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious but the food did take a while to come out. We weren’t there at breakfast rush or lunch rush so I thought it would be faster. But overall great. We had the Reuben sandwhich w/fries it was 10/10! and tri dip sandwich with onion rings it was so good. All around 10/10!

Visited on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. we knew it would be busy we asked how long it would take. The young lady at the front told us 15 to 20 minutes which was reasonable. We saw the tables were empty so we thought okay we would stay and wait... 45 minutes later and 10 minutes after telling us we were second in line and five tables sat in front of us I decided to ask about it. We then became next in line and they sat us not sure what that was about maybe she was overwhelmed and lost her place. The food was okay it's not a regular Black Bear experience that we've had before in other states I think they're just getting their legs. We will give them another try but not on Sunday, not after church times, and not at noon. Food is good, homestyle, and VERY large portions. The biscuits are 2 " tall but they were a bit dry this visit. Again they are working with what they have and getting their legs ( we hope)

I stopped in today for a late breakfast. Food could have been better. I was disappointed in the Cinnamon French Toast plating. It was brought out and looked and tasted like cinnamon rolls sliced and put on my plate with tons of cinnamon dropped on the middle of these without powdered sugar. Our waitress, Montzé, was so nice about it. I was not charged for it. I pointed out the pictures on the reviews versus what I got. She seemed sad, and I felt horrible afterward. I told her it was not her fault. Besides the food, her service was great. I will be back and will give them a second try.

Hubby and I stopped in for a late dinner. I was very pleased with the friendliness of the staff. Very welcoming. I was a little skeptical at first, but that was eased as I tasted my first bite. I ordered from the little less option and that's exactly what your gonna get, so keep that in mind when you order. It was pretty good. Hubby let me try his strawberry shake, burger, and onion rings they were just as delicious. The staff stated that their breakfast is the best, so we"ll have to go back and try their breakfast. (breakfast is served all day) They also make some of the baked goods (dessert) on site. They looked pretty tasty, so we"ll have to try the dessert next time as well. You'll also find cute souvenirs to remember your dining experience. There is plenty of seating and the decor is great wilderness and cabins. We're definitely planning on coming back :) 03/26/2023-I treated hubby and my stepson Sal Jr. for breakfast. We always forget about this restaurant for breakfast. I'm so glad I remembered this morning. They were pretty busy, but luckily we were seated quickly. We were very pleased with our meal. I had stuffed french toast, hubby had chicken fried steak, and Sal Jr. had pancakes, sausage, and eggs. Everything was delicious 😋 Our server Pete could have been more attentive, but he was okay. We definitely recommend this place for breakfast 🥞🍳😁 Tuesday 04/04/2023-Hubby was craving something sweet. So we stopped in for dessert. It looked delish. We were so disappointed!!! The bread pudding was not warmed all the way thru and my brownie was hard.😔The manager said the waitress was new and more than likely didn't prepare them properly. She corrected the issue for us.👍🙂 Saturday, February 17, 2024- The service was impeccable, thank you Jami!!! Breakfast was delish💯 Hubby loves the chicken fried steak breakfast. I had the 3 egg vegetable omelet 😋

Well the food was awesome. My waitress was okay she only checked on my table once and she forgot to bring some things out with my food. The waiters was in there talking and laughing really loud instead of cleaning the dirty dishes off the tables or cleaning their dirty bathroom. OMG their restroom was just filthy and stinky. I just washed my hands and came up out of there. But over all the food was great. If I go back I hope it be better than the first.

Our original server never acknowledged us, we were getting ready to just walk out & Deseri jump in & apologized & took real good care of us. Even after all that our original server never came over to us at all to apologize or anything, but as soon as his next table was seated he was there within 30 seconds to serve them. I did report it to management

Chicken fried steak seems processed meat. I asked for gravy on the side. They poured tons on top. Way too much. Loved the atmosphere. Great waitstaff. Very good coffee and service.

Woke up wanting Steak & Eggs, however it was midday and not alot of options to choose from, until we discovered Black Bear Diner. Once we arrived, I saw Benedict’s on the menu, MY FAVS. So, changing my order was the best decision I made! The food was delicious, the poached eggs were just that, POACHED! This diner was definitely a great choice and totally unexpected. The staffing was low, so the restaurant had not been picked up. Our waitress was so sweet and accommodating, since it was our first time she helped by answering any questions I had. You need to give this place a chance and don’t forget to get a pie or bear claw, absolute HEAVEN! I can’t wait to go back and hopefully more people check them out!

Well, I had a hard time deciding what to rate this restaurant!! The first time I visited, it was nice outside and the inside was impressive. We were five adults and two kids. I ordered chicken fried steak(a larger portion), eggs and country fries. Chicken fried steak the breading was too thick and the meat inside was not tender. The server had too many tables,, we didn't get good service. After the first cup of coffee we had to wait a long time for our waitress to refill. No sign of her, I finally had to ask a different waitress for our coffee refills. The food portion was good and at a competitive price.

This was my first time at this concept. The food was at best mediocre. The service was about the same, Our server was not engaged. She knew it was our first time there. We informed her of that. We inquired about suggestions for our meal. She had none to offer.we inquired about an appetizer, She said they do not have appetizers, nor did she make any suggestions for an appetizer. The atmosphere and the concept of the restaurant however it was very well.

Table we were sat at was wobbley as hell had to fold a napkin under leg to somewhat steady it. Service was very slow wated long time for a waitress. mentioned table she laughed. Food was good but even with a free breakfest coupon and only 1 breakfest it was still mid $30. I will not go back.

Daughter and I continue our tour of DFW breakfast places, this time at Black Bear. Today's visit was ok. They were clearly short staffed, looked like a morning Sunday rush started a little earlier than they expected. But once we sat down no less than three waitresses came by! I got the chicken fried steak omelette and daughter got avocado toast with a side of hash browns. The servings are immense. My biscuit was the size of my fists. The food's a little underseasoned, we both added salt. But it's a nice kitschy atmosphere and a lot of food for $45 after tip. Three stars this time, but that's only because it was understaffed and we didn't get the attention we should have. But that's not the server's fault, she was excellent and we tipped her to reflect that.

Food was mid in my opinion. They didn't have enough servers when went on a Sunday morning. The scrambled eggs reminded me of a hotel breakfast but their spicy sausage was pretty good.

I've never eaten at a breakfast place where my eggs were swimming in oil. The coffee was a bit bland, the atmosphere seemed a little plain, and the establishment seemed to attract people who are on the undesirable side. On the upside, the menu is large with many options, and items like the chicken sausage were very tasty.

It's nice and cozy and the service was great. However, the food was not the best. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger salad-no bacon. The meat was cold. They did bring me some more meat that was warmer. However, the salad was just lettuce and pickles just about. The meat was greasy and overcooked and stuck together- almost chewy. With it being a cheeseburger salad you expect to see... cheese. There was a sprinkle. I know times are hard and they may be cutting corners, but this was just not good today. They even had a sprinkle of tomatoes. My husband ordered a pancake and it took so long we forgot we ordered it. The owner was so nice and he came out and explained they had a new cook. We were understanding. We will try them again. The other food looked great.

today was my second time visiting this location. the first time was pretty good. It was all new and the building is very clean. Service was great. The first time this time service was rather lacking. Took 10 minutes to get another 10 minutes to get the food order and then flagged down the waitress to get the bill. The food is OK. Everything seems to be tied to a possible up charge at this restaurant. Honestly for the price it was OK at best. It’s not great. It was not good. It was OK again for the price. I would think the food would’ve been better. Got there about 11 had a late breakfast. It just is meah. The building itself is rather cute and the decorations and decor is rather nice .

Large party with a lot of service gaps. We met another family there so seated at different times. It started great with our waiter but worsened quickly. I should have listened to my wife and allowed her to go get our menus, but I believed our waitwr would bring them. Almost 45 minutes later, we still didn't have them, and she went back to the young lady at the entrance to get them. Only then, after 45 minutes and multiple trips by our table from our waiter, did he realize we didn't have them. One and a half hours in, we didn't have our food and most of us were getting restless. One of our party approached a woman near the kitchen and a few minutes later our food started to come to the table. I fully understand that a large party takes time but there was no communication from our waiter. Ten minutes later, we all had our food. Most was luke warm at best but no one was willing to wait any longer. Big picture, details and communication matter. To have a table of 12 and take 0 orders for 45 minutes should have been a red flag. It's nearly impossible for me to understand how he saw no menus on the tables. To have no food and no communication on it after 90 minutes was even worse. To not offer to start bringing orders out sooner so all wouldn't be cold could have been any easy ask/offer of the table. At least give us the option. Big picture, what could have been an enjoyable Sunday morning turned into a very frustrating event. Food is a basic requirement at a restaurant. This was an issue the entire time. To see 6-7 tables who were seated after us get served food and actually leave the restaurant was a terrible experience. Basics...

Stopped by Black Bear Diner and, honestly, the food hit the spot. The fish and chips were perfectly crispy, the fries were piping hot, and the biscuit with gravy… well, it was warm but kind of uncomfortable to eat. The kitchen knows what it’s doing. Now, the service… that’s a different story. Our waiter made a rude comment about how long it took us to order, and when we tried to get dessert, he only paid attention to my friend and walked away like I didn’t exist. It felt dismissive and unprofessional. If the service matched the food, this place would easily be five stars. Great eats, but the service really needs to step up.

Not crowded, got Southern Scramble- biscuits was hard as a rock, I couldn't eat it. Forgot the pancakes on another order- had to get servers attention so we could get those. She never came back to see of we needed anything else or re-fills. Had to go to the cash register before I got the tab. I won't be back. Too bad, it used to be really good.

We went in Sunday, December 31, 2023. Expecting a great atmosphere, but upon walking in the front door, multiple tables and full bar counter were FULL of dirty dishes. Waited to be seated, once seated, the couple that came in 10-15 after us, were served before us.

Absolutely the worst Reuben sandwich I have ever tried to eat. The meat was grilled until it was corned beef jerky. You could not even tell it was corned beef from the taste of it. The kraut was grilled to mush. $24 the sandwich 2 sides and a drink plus the tip. So 30 bucks for garbage.

Well Christmas was our 1st time here and it was disappointing. Our waiter must have been new or just careless. We ordered our food and watched 2 tables order, eat and leave. We received our food 32 minutes after ordering. I asked for a manager that never came. My food was old and had wrinkles in the mashed potatoes. It had been sitting. I know this because I heard a lady tell him he had 3 tables waiting on orders. He never checked on us again after serving our drinks. Do better Leo. Merry Christmas

It was a very interesting experience, to say the least. I ordered the french toast and tried to substitute my side of fruit for something else but was told that I couldn't because the fruit was complimentary. Weird but okay. I ordered a side of hashbrowns but really wish my meal would have come with some type of meat side instead of fruit. My hashbrowns were undercooked in some areas and cooked perfectly in others. There were several times us or other customers had to flag our waitresses down just to get service. The bathrooms had dirty paper towels all over the counters. When we went to pay, we were told we would be given a bag to put our to go containers in, and the cashier tried walking away without giving us one. When we asked for one, she took a deep breath, came back, and put the bag on the counter then walked away. No attempt to hand it to us or help us bag our containers. Overall, this experience was enough to make us not return again.

First time at this restaurant! Wow! They have a big food selection! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day! They also have Prime Rib, Fri. & Sat.!! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with my choices! And then it went downhill from there! She asked if I wanted my chili first, and I said please. 15 minutes later, my microwaved chili was brought to me! She asked if I wanted to refill on coffee, please. 5 to 10 mins later! Or food was another 15 to 20mins wait! I'm glad I was not in a hurry! The food was great! Must try the Try Dip dipped sandwich with the mushrooms, onions, and Swiss! Very juicy! My wife's biscuit and gravy were good! Big chunks of sausage in the gravy! Both meals shouldn't have taken that long to prepare! We had to hunt down our waitress to get our ticket so we could pay and leave! I'm not sure how long we would have waited if she never came back to our table! Here is the kicker! The rush died down, and it was slow!!

I wish I could give more stars. But I just can't. We went in the evening Our server was nice and pleasant but service took forever. It wasn't like the store was busy. Took an hour to get our food. Although the food was plated well it was mediocre at best. Wed been waiting a half hour just to get our check. Stood at the register for another 10 minutes with four other guests waiting to pay. Maybe if we go for breakfast sometime we will have a better experience as those plates look delicious!

Literally awful food and service is slow as molasses. We used to love coming here. We even took 8 months off to give it a break, and it’s still the stalest food experience. I don’t know what changed. Also had onion in my breakfast plate. No one ordered onions.

This place never fails to disappoint. The first time trying it out I got cold old scrambled eggs. I asked for fresh eggs and they came back microwaved. I had direct view of their kitchen which had food and garbage on the floors. I chopped it up to being a busy morning. I’ve only ever ordered from here again because my fiancé wanted to try them out. We ordered tonight a soup and sandwich for him because he’s sick. Got a salad and this “sandwich,” if that’s what you want to call it. I ordered breakfast on a biscuit with country potatoes. Potatoes and sausage were burnt and biscuit was stale. Eggs were ice cold again. I tried giving this place another chance. The salad looked decent if that’s what we had ordered. I split my meal with my fiancé and we just threw everything away after picking at it. Not even worthy for the dogs. Will never go back. When I called all I could hear was the employees laughing in the background as soon as someone picked up and the manager sounds like an untrained kid. Said he would “look at the cameras” when I mentioned I got a salad instead of soup. I’m not sure what good that would do for the customer but ok. I was not calling to fuss or get anyone in “trouble” but to have my second horrible experience made right and was left without any offer for a solution. I know most of these jobs are employed by younger adults and that’s great but this location needs to step up its training in every aspect it seems. Cleanliness, food prep, and customer service.

Formal Complaint Regarding Disrespectful Conduct at Black Bear Diner – Mesquite, TX To the Management of Black Bear Diner – Mesquite, TX, I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding an unacceptable and offensive encounter I experienced at your location on October 12, 2025, while picking up an order for a client. Upon entering the restaurant, I approached your hostess—Desiree, a short Caucasian woman with burgundy hair—and asked where the restroom was located, as there was no visible signage. Her response was, “It’s outside.” When I asked her to repeat what she said, she claimed she was "just playing." After using the restroom, I waited an additional 10 minutes for the client’s order. I then questioned Desiree about her earlier remark. Her response was both shocking and inappropriate—she said she makes those kinds of comments to “all melanated people” and that “no one takes offense.” Let me be absolutely clear: This behavior is offensive, racially insensitive, and entirely unprofessional. It is not a joke, and it should never be tolerated in any place of business. To make such a statement—implying that inappropriate or dismissive behavior is acceptable based on a customer’s race—is both degrading and discriminatory. I informed her that her comment was disrespectful to men and women alike and should never be repeated. I expect this matter to be addressed immediately with appropriate corrective action taken. A simple apology is not sufficient—this speaks to a larger issue of training and accountability. Please confirm that this message has been received and outline how you plan to address this situation moving forward. I am prepared to escalate this further if necessary.

Terrible service and attitudes from servers. We’ve been to another Black Bear Diner and it was amazing. But this location was awful. After we were seated it took 15 minutes for a server to ask for our drinks and she said she wasn’t even our server she was just getting our drinks. Then she disappeared and another server came and asked for our drinks. Then it took another 5 to 10 minutes for him to bring our drinks so in total it took a little over 20 minutes for us to just get drinks. After that he took our order and we waited for our salads, which took another 10 minutes and then our entrées came out 30 minutes later. At this point we had been there for at least 45 minutes before getting our food and there were only two other tables in the restaurant at this time and at least three other servers. I had ordered the chicken fried steak and as soon as he said it down in front of me, it smelled weird. I tried everything and it did not taste right and I wanted to send it back. However, our server never came back to check on us. And by the time he came back, everyone else was done eating, so I just sent it back and I didn’t order anything else. The only good thing is that he took it off of our check and I complain to the manager at the front about everything that happened and he gave us another discount on our check, but I don’t really see us ever going back based on the service. My kids ordered pancakes and they like those. However, my husband ordered a Reuben sandwich and he didn’t really like it either but he still ate it.

The food is obviously microwaved. The plates were piping hot but the food temp was uneven, and room temp at warmest. Middles of all the foods were cold. Even the gravy could barely qualify as room temp. The waiter never showed back up after the food came out. Not a single other staff member seemed to care to be there, much less pay any attention to any customers. Cute decor and a large menu means nothing when the food tastes like an underdone frozen TV dinner.

Restaurant run by teenagers apparently. We waited a few minutes to be seated in a dining room that wasn't quite half full. When they seated us it was at a table next to a large noisy party rather than one of the many empty booths. We asked to be seated at one of the empty booths and were told 'no' those are closed. So we left and discovered a wonderful Mediterranean buffet two doors down. There are literally half a dozen restaurants in row here so you don't have to go hungry, others places will happily take your money.

came back to update my review but not rating. they were busy (not jam packed busy) we had no wait to be seated. when we were seated, there was food on our chairs and liquid on another. floor was littered with crumbs and food. there were SO many employees on staff i could see at least 5 sitting or standing around, you would think the place would be cleaner. MOST of their floor staff are very young and based on our service, not properly trained. saw a lot of staff sitting at the counter talking, playing with their hair. our server never told us his name. i ordered sweet potato fries which arrived to the table a little soggy and just warm. also got a house salad. nothing remarkable about house salads i guess. my son ordered a cheeseburger and fries. both were just warm. my granddaughter ordered chicken tenders tossed in redds hot sauce with fries and vanilla shake. her food was the only hot plate we received this meal. she said they were good, but a bit too spicy for her. my mother ordered two eggs over easy, breakfast potatoes and sausage. her food was also just warm. her english muffin was brought out 3 separate times because it wasn't even toasted. also no butter on it or served on the side. our server never tried to fix, had to ask for the english muffin every time it was sent back and when asked how the kitchen was cooking their english muffins, his reply was "i dont know i don't work in the kitchen" he also mostly avoided us during our visit after we sent back the first english muffin. we had to track him down to ask for refills. we weren't offered any refills on our water that was two out of the 4 in our parties only drink. when we left, there were 4 employees behind a two register station taking amongst one another while they checked out guests. they have KIDS basically running this place. and that's great that they want to work, but in my experience they are the least likely to be concerned with the type of service they give. and it was obvious here. they might be friendly, but do NOT know how to give a positive dining experience. i could see into the kitchen and there were older individuals doing the cooking and looked like an older person who was the kitchen manager. she never came to see what the problem was when we sent the same thing back three times. it's also VERY loud in there. i will never be back and definitely NOT worth the over $50 spent. poor service, food quality and environment. can't tell you anything. there were literally 15-20 people waiting OUTSIDE to get in. wanted to try it, because it's new, but the wait was ridiculous, so we just went next to Snuffer's where we had no wait to be seated, enjoyed EXCELLENT service from Selena, and ate super hot and delicious food.

Terrible experience. Countless things to point out and address, but to summarize, it all primarily points to poor service, which comes down to the more poor management of the restaurant. Before ordering, I asked if they have plenty of chili. He answered yes. 15 minutes later, he came back and said that there is no chili. :-| Then I asked about the bear claw (out), danish (out). It’s February 2023 and we’re still blaming things on COVID-19 (chili, danish & bear claw shortage, Lol..). Had to ask for silverware to stir the coffee after ordering. Also, OUT OF NAPKINS?!?! But then some were found. Had to ask for all refills, EVERY.TIME! Three meals were delayed, like 10 minutes after the others got theirs. One, there was no excuses for. The other two were the ones that were reordered because of being out of chili and such. Before getting the food, my wife asked if we could have some biscuits in the mean time to help with the food delay, so he brought 4 biscuits. Of course, they charged for them. I’ve been here three times now. The first time was good food, but not good service, but I didn’t leave a bad review because it was real soon after opening. The second time, we were upfront with the waiter, “The last time we were here, the service was bad. Are you a good waiter and gonna take good care of the service?” He said yes and he did, for the most part. This time was different. It just really seemed careless and assumed that the tip was automatic. I really do hate to not tip, but this was one where the should absolutely not have been one, and that’s what happened. I kept watching the manager’s body language when my wife was checking out. He kept shaking his head. If he isn’t understanding what the problem is, he’s likely the biggest contributor to the problem. I much prefer leaving good reviews, rather than these. These photos are from the previous visits. Was too irritated to take photos this time. Good food, service is just not good.

The waiting times were decent. You would think this place is awesome with its attendance but one thing I learn from Texas attendance does not account for taste! I got gravy biscuits, hash brown, and sausage links, asked for gravy on the side such a simple meal, my spouse got waffle, eggs, grits, and bacon. Our food was so cold no season and waitress just brought food and never came back we need more water and salt wasn’t near the table empty! Long story short I’ll never be back Waffle House is a better choice! No thanks

Terrible from the moment we walked in. There was no one at the host stand so we waited to be seated. Multiple people walked by and ignored us. Finally one staff member said she’d be right with us, but she walked away and didn’t come back. We were about to leave when someone finally came over and seated us. The restaurant was about half empty, maybe more. We were greeted quickly by our server and he brought drinks quickly. We ordered food and the wait for it was really long, considering how empty the restaurant was. Our server didn’t come back to check on us until we were almost done our meals, I can’t really blame him though because it seemed like he was the only one working serving tables. I ordered the taco salad and it was not good. There was supposed to be refried beans which was the main reason I ordered it, there were none. I would have said something if we’d been checked on before we were basically done our meals, but at that point I just wanted to leave. The salad came with ground beef, which ended up just being a hacked up burger patty which was so overcooked it was inedible. A burger patty is fine but this was disgusting. Only decent thing was the portion size, it was huge. Other than that, there was nothing enjoyable about the entire experience. I don’t blame the server, he was clearly overwhelmed trying to take care of everyone in the place. He could have told me that they only have Pepsi products though instead of just bringing me a Diet Pepsi when I asked for Diet Coke - they are not the same. First time trying this place and I would never go back.

Used to be our fave family spot. They under new management and Nothing is okay here anymore. They are out of main food items, so much so that I just got home and making myself food. Its ridiculous. We spent what $200 at a restaurant to come home and want to eat?. Tonight was so terrible I'm just giving all one stars and not bother with the whole story. Sorry to the waitress I'm sure its not your fault which is why you still got a tip. We will not ever be back, sad to say, this was the 3rd time we had a horrible time with yall running out of food. Pot roast and the tip dip samich and chicken fried steak. Let alone NO HOLIDAY FOOD ON THE HOLIDAY THE MENU IS PRINTED FOR. THANKSGIVING WAS THE SAME. YOU SHOULD CONSIDERING A PROPER DOOR HOSTESS

One server for the entire restaurant, tomatoes on the salad were rotten, chicken fried steak was a Tyson frozen, and my wife's order was incorrect. Another place here in Mesquite that we will never return to.

We will not be back. It wasn't super busy, seated right away, but took 15 min before anyone came by to take our order (and we had to get up to ask the hostess for our server). We also saw two tables of ppl who came in after us get served first. The waiter was friendly. On to the food. Ordered the fish & chips, subbed onion rings for fries. Came out with literally 5 onion rings. The fish reminded me of the fish served at Long John Silvers in appearance, but tasted better. Inside was cute & clean. Lots of stuff on the menu to choose from. Suspect if you can't find something to eat that's not their problem. Breakfast served all day. They even sell wine, mimosas, and beer. That I wasn't expecting.

As much as I really wanted to enjoy this place and praise them for their beautiful presentations of their dishes . . . I unfortunately must give them the review that they deserve . And I will make this as informative and as concise as possible . An older , bald gentleman (not trying to be rude but this is the best way to describe him since I did not get his name) took my check at the registers . I kindly asked him if he could please make an adjustment to the check because there was a plate that never arrived to the table . But before I could finish explaining , he storms off ! I thought he was very immature . Incredibly irate . And so I asked to speak with the manager that way I can have my check corrected and pay for my meal . To my surprise . He informed me that he IS the manager . Wow . I feel bad for the staff . He stormed off about 2-3 more times and on the final run away he tried to poorly convince me that I did receive the plate even though I did not . And I even had photos to prove it . He raised his hands and did not care to take a look at my photos and threatened to call the police as he walked off for the final time . Volatile , isn’t he ? I sat down at an empty table by the front and waited . I should have walked away . I should not be doing business with any establishment if they are going to mistreat me or anybody else . But I wanted to do the right thing . And so I waited . And to my surprise he returned and offered a $5 discount on my meal . This is not what I wanted but I figured it was a step in the right direction and it eventually adds up to the amount that I should be paying for (or closer to the amount I should pay for) and so I payed for the meal . As I was doing so , he mumbled something . I could not quite understand what he said , I’m sure his intentions were to insult me or offend me , none of which worked because I didn’t understand him . And so I simply said have a nice day , took my receipt and walked away . All in all , I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED ! Not because of the food , not because of the atmosphere , but because of the experience . And even though it was my first (and most likely last) experience at Black Bear Diner , I’m almost certain that Black Bear Diner would NOT APPROVE OF THIS MANAGERS BEHAVIOR ! And as a note to the staff , everyone else was great . Very friendly and attentive . But I would strongly encourage each and everyone of you to seek better employment elsewhere . Because if this is the way the MANAGER treats his guests during open hours , I would not want to imagine how harshly he treats his employees during closed hours or behind closed doors . From now on , I’ll stick to ihop or dennys if I want some pancakes . At least I know I won’t have a horrible experience .
