Abuelo's Midland Reviews
Great place, friendly people and perfect food. We even made a mistake when we ordered and they remade the plate for us. No fuss. I was thoroughly impressed.
Food was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive on keeping our drinks filled and letting us know the status of our order coming out of the kitchen. I would definitely return and eat again.
This has been the the best experience since we’ve been to Abuelo’s in Midland. Gavin, was amazing and made sure we were well taken care of. More servers like him are needed. Great job Gavin you’re amazing
Absolutely one of the Abuelo experiences ever. Our server McKayla (not sure of spelling) was a complete gem. She handled all her tables in our are like a pro. She served us what we needed before we could even ask. She’s a great server and we wish all servers were as in tuned to their job like she is. The food was hot fresh and beyond delicious. The shrimp and steak fajitas were top level. As our economy is out of control and it is so expensive to eat out now days, we do it very rarely. When it’s an experience instead of just a meal we feel great about the treat. Keep up the good work Abuelo’s!
We had a table of five for lunch. We were greeted upon entry and thanked for coming when we left. Not only was our cute little waitress (I apologize for not remembering your name cute red head girl who doesn’t like dogs either. Haha) spectacular but two other employees actually went out of their way to be kind and check on us as well. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The atmosphere is excellent. if I had one complaint it would be change the radio station lol
Amazing experience! Our server Wednesday afternoon was excellent. Just a mom with her daughter and we were still served as if it was a group of people! Our server even went out of his way to get my daughter a new to go beverage when she dropped hers as we were leaving. Definetly recommend dining in.
Traveling through Texas, we wanted Mexican for dinner. I googled Mexican, and so many came up. I chose Abuelos and was so glad I did. At first, I was a little disappointed that the hostess told us there was no booth available because she didn't want to overwhelm the waiter. We were seated, and Robert, our waiter, was there immediately and brought us a happy hour menu. We ordered margaritas and a draft beer. What a deal at $5! The food, a combination plate, and enchiladas were delicious. But, it was Robert that made us love this place. He checked back with us all the time, even though he was so busy. Just a great waiter all around. Highly recommend Abuelo's for an all around experience. Great waiter, great chips and salsa, and wonderful Mexican food!
We started our dinner and drinks at Abuelo’s with the La Grandeza, the house Margarita and the Raspberry Hibiscus Margarita. The hand shaker for one of the drinks was presented to us at our table and these were hands down the best margaritas I’ve had. Along with the drinks, came in fresh tortilla chips and the yummiest salsa spreads. Our server was very friendly and didn’t miss a beat on the salsa and chips refills. We then had the vegetable fajitas for the mains which were very delicious. The place didn’t have much of a wait time and it was overall a very good dinner. Definitely going back there next time we’re looking for some yummy margaritas and a pretty decent vegetarian meal.
I enjoyed an amazing supper with friends. Or server was very friendly and attentive. I had the Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp. It is an appetizer but was plenty for me. Also, in the table Fajita Tacos and Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderlions and Spinach Enchildas. We got there at 6pm and only had to wait about 10 minutes. That wasn't a long wait at all.
Abuelo’s Mexican restaurant is a good all-around place that has something for everyone. There is a full service bar and the margaritas are the highlight. I went with beer because that’s what I like with Mexican food. Chips and four kinds of salsa. The tomatillo is a little sweet for me. The portions are right. The flavor is plentiful. The music is lively and reminds me of Selena’s style. It’s just not authentic Mexican food. I ordered the steak fajita tacos. The waiter said, “Steak tacos.” It was good. I’m used to fajitas with vegetables and this was not it. Just not what I expected. I am NOT saying don’t go. I would go again but with different expectations. You can see I didn’t leave much behind on the plate.
Great Meal, got the combination plate, enchiladas, Chile relleno, Tacos! Food was hot and fresh, good size portion good presentation. The only issues were Salsa were not hot at all, they gave us a tray of three and none had a kick of spice at all, definitely need to address that. And that sauce over the food was good, but needed some contrast between sauces. The drinks were good, service was good, definitely hit the spot!! I do recommend!! 😋😋😋
Our waiter was amazing as well as the food. The manager is insanely rude for no reason. She condescendingly lectured me because we had my baby in a stroller outside of our booth and he was “in the way”. When I asked why they would seat us there when they saw we had him, she argued with me and said we didn’t have the stroller when we walked in (which we did). Either way, be kind and ask nicely. She acted as if we were intentionally in the way. She then made us put the carrier in the booth with us, fold up the stroller, and place it out of sight which I was not comfortable with but she said that was my only option. This is not the first time this manager has been rude and after this occurrence I won’t be back. Eating out with a young child is already stressful, none the less the manager lecturing you. Do better!
Hello, I wanted to share some feedback regarding my recent visit to your restaurant. While the food was generally good, it did not meet the usual standards I have come to expect, especially considering the price we paid. The restaurant was clean, and the server was exceptionally nice and very prompt in attending to our needs, which I appreciated greatly. However, I believe that for the price charged, the quality of the food could have been better. Specifically, the fajitas were quite tough and not cut properly, which made them difficult to enjoy. Additionally, the vegetables served with the fajitas were an unusual mix that did not complement the dish well. Lastly, the corn tortillas that accompanied the fajitas were very thick and rubbery, detracting from the overall experience. I hope this feedback is helpful and that improvements can be made moving forward. Thank you for your attention.
Heard good things, so was excited. Being from the Valley, I’m always looking for Mexican food that reminds me of home. When you walk in, you’re not greeted by either of the hostess. You just casually wait at the front til they get off their phones and ask you how many. Got seated at a table for four, with one of the legs being bent. Leaned to one side, and I had to use their sugar packets to stabilize it. Our waitress was great, besides instantly asking if we were ready to order dinner. We let her know we wanted to order drinks first, and survey the menu. She came back often, and was timely. Solid waitress. The food is lackluster, and bland. I assume to cater to all, you leave the spices out and give the slight taste. Out of the three salsas, none had heat. We ordered the large guac, and it came as a few scoops of purée guacamole with some tomato’s cut up on top. Same texture as you’d imagine frosting being squeezed from a bag. Fajitas for two, was our order for dinner. They allow you to choose 4 options. We opted for double meat and double veggies. We got what one would assume would be for one on the beef fajitas, and stir fry veggies soaked in butter. They also gave us a small side of beans and rice (the same amount you’d get elsewhere for one) to share, and our waitress confirmed the individual plates have even less. The beef fajitas had no spices, and instead were grilled like a regular steak. You’d taste the same at Outback. I wouldn’t recommend coming here for Tex-Mex nor Mexican food. Though this could be a good place to bring kids, as everything was plain.
Usually great but our last visit this week was awful. My husband sent his back even. My beans were grey in color and dried out. 😩 my mom couldnt eat her chicken soup either it had huge chunks of dark weird looking chicken. Like I said we usually love it.
Food was good, but the plates and food came out way too hot! Also, please remind your servers to go to the bathroom when blowing their nose. I just watched one blow her nose, pick it, and walk off. SICK!!!
Review from a real Mexican from El Paso, TX😆 (fyi long review) My boyfriend and I went on Memorial Day 5/26/25. It was pretty empty but a few of the places that were open. I had been telling my boyfriend that I wanted to eat at a place with some chips and salsa. Something typical we get in most restaurants in EP. But ok, here in Midland obviously I haven’t had a restaurant with any good Mexican food yet. I gave this place a chance. Even though I was starving I was not craving anything from their menu 😩 I opted to play it safe and get the Trio Fajitas. While waiting, I was trying out their salsas. The chips were good, but the salsas wow not even a hint of spice or flavor 😭 the only decent one was one of the four they brought us. The tomatillo salsa literally tasted like they added sugar, it was so sweet to me. The other was just plain tomato sauce. When my food arrived I asked the server if he could please bring me more of the only salsa I had liked and he said he would bring me that one plus an habanero salsa that was spicy. Well none were spicy to me but a little better than the other ones. The FOOD. Okay, let’s talk about the food. $30 for a fajita skillet I expected something good. Well, first off my food smelled like sweet or bbq. I was like uhh?? It didn’t even smell like they had cooked it with some spices or anything. The fajitas were so bland 2/10. The chicken was ok 4/10 and the shrimp had bbq sauce on top , like what??? 1/10. I proceed to make myself a taco, then realize they only gave me 3 tortillas!! Oh lord I wasn’t having it but whatever it was just to try it out. The rice was fine 5/10. The beans surprisingly weren’t sweet nor did they add bbq sauce I give those a 7/10. Food experience I give this place 2/10. Service: I must say our server was very sweet and attentive. He keeps refilling our tea’s, and was checking up on us. So he’s service is a 10/10. Hostess: eh they were whatever, nothing good or bad to say about them. Atmosphere: I liked the place, it has potential and it is clean. I liked the hacienda vibes. The few people there seemed to be having a good time. I just wish the food was actually good and authentic 😣 it’s not even Tex Mex, just plain, not seasoned Mexican food. It’s just my personal opinion, from what I see other people seem to like it and that’s fine 😊
Things have changed at Abuelo’s. I have spoken to the manager before about how you don’t feel invited to their restaurant anymore. We went in tonight with tables open everywhere and wanted to sit at the bar area. But it was not available and would be a wait time. We left and the manager was not apologetic or concerned why people were leaving. I don’t want to go where you feel like you’re not welcome as a customer.
Been in midland for a few months and would always drive by this place and was very excited to try it. Finally went yesterday with my gf and my experience was nothing close to what I was expecting, nobody working seemed happy to be there from the door girl to the servers even the cooks the way my food came out. Ordered chips and queso, queso definitely was straight from a can from Walmart, and the main dishes were even worst. Ordered a quesadilla it was a half ass amount of cheap steak slapped on a stale tortilla, my beans were so dry they looked like they were served from the night before. Even my gfs food was just as bad quality wise, very disappointing to say the least. Here I am leaving a review a day later I’m still disappointed.
As you know and as posted in my profile. My reviews reflect the actual vist and not multiple visit. FRIST the cost for 3 people with only 2 extras, was 1 pacific beer and Queso. At 2:45 pm the cost, with 18% tip, $87. The atmosphere and decor as awesome. It had the Joe T. Garcia feel, but all indoors, so much better. The food was 5 tumbs up for all 3 of us. But for accuracy 6 tumbs down. 2 orders were wrong. My son order the Tamale dinner with no cheese and my wife ordered the Lunch Chilli Relleno & Enchilada Dinner. The wife asked for meat and cheese in her Relleno and my son asked for NO cheese. My wife didn't get the beef, only cheese on her Relleno. My son, got cheese on his Tamales. It had to be recorded. However, I ordered the Lunch Grande Burrito with no sour cream. My plate was perfect. So my wife and I ate, my son had to wait for his meal to be remade. I was done and my wife was just about done when my son got his meal. It was very obvious it was placeed as an "rushed" order. When I mentioned this to waitress, she said "I would to check if it was the kitchen or my mistake". I didn't get a discount or a manger wasn't requested by her. I just paid the full price plus tip. It seems the Manager would empower their staff to be able to make decisions on the spot when it was clearly the "Teams" mistake. I asked that she do a better job next time to help the next customer. The wait staff that takes the order has to be proactive for their table, the people their sre working for. , if not let it be a buffet. In today's world were we have to be our on activists, I would never guess we have to add restaurants. If true, there goes the tip. Hey you "incharged" person, enforce the golden rule. LET'S ALL STAND FOR SEVICE FOR THE CUSTOMER. What a waste of an atmosphere and $87. Next customer, you been told.I'll never go back.
I don’t know why this place says they cook Mexican food, it was horrible and nasty, not authentic at all, we went because of the reviews on here and we just moved here and haven’t unpacked our kitchen yet, so we were trying to get some good food, But I’m very disappointed, they don’t even use real Mexican cheese, they don’t have Mexican drinks, terrible. Better off going to Taco Bell seriously. I’m not trying to be mean but it was a waste of money that I can’t get back. My kids didn’t like it at all, my youngest had the nachos and they were fried tortillas cut in half with meat on top and shredded cheese, the tortillas were sour from almost being burned, he had one piece, my oldest had the mix fajita chimichanga and he took three bites and said he didn’t like it, my husband was trying so hard to put up a brave face because we were not having a good time, but he didn’t like his (not surprised) he had a big plate with enchiladas and a hard shell taco and the worst tamale I have ever tasted, I had the chiles rellenos but I told our waitress that I didn’t like it and she took it back. I’m glad they didn’t charged me for it. I’m not Mexican and can cook better Mexican food than this, seriously calling what they serve Mexican food it’s an absolute insult to Mexican food. The only good thing we had was the chips.
