Good food, good price, and the young man who waited on our table was outstanding
Best place for fresh margaritas. Today was the first time I ordered a steak. Normally if I order a rare steak at most restaurants it will come medium if I'm lucky, not here. The rare steak was actually rare 🥰 it had a delicious flavor too. Definitely ordering again
The chip A+ and salsas are something for every taste. The queso is hot and delish. The Grande was perfect for two. No complaints about a single thing. Empanadas, it was National Empinada Day, so we got one of each. Alas, so much food they have to go home. Don't pass up Abuelas. You won't be disappointed. Thanks for the great food!
We enjoyed the food ,service and atmosphere.
Excellent experience! Great customer service and delicious food. The staff was friendly and attentive, and everything we ordered was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a good meal and welcoming atmosphere.
Sat down no waiting Fast service Food was great 👍
I haven’t eaten at this one, but I’ve eaten at one in Indiana and they have some excellent food and I’m sure this will have great food also
My wife and I absolutely love coming here. It's such a fun atmosphere and the service is always excellent and kind. I do wish the food portions were a little larger but I probably eat too much anyway.
Great spot. Food was good, try the papas instead of rice! Yum
This place is amazing! I sat at the bar, ordered drinks and food... the food was great! The bartender, Ryan, gave impeccable service! I will be coming back... The avocado enchiladas,... Just Wow! The queso here is also pretty good. Next time I'll be trying the signature margarita. Special thanks to the waitress (didn't get her name) who recommended the tres leches cheesecake!
I can’t lie the bad reviews almost made us not come & find somewhere else to eat but my boyfriend & I decided to try it for ourselves & let me just say yohanne’s was an amazing waiter!! He was very attentive even when he had other tables to tend to. he was very kind & very professional ! Food was amazing I’m glad we came everything was perfect!
What a great spot for good food in a good atmosphere. The only glitch with our group’s order was spotted by the waiter and put right. We saw as a positive thing as it shows they care. This was our first visit but based on the crowd and the great meal we had this is a popular place with good reason!
The food and service are great. I started taking my team here for lunches last year. Our group is typically 14+. While they have not taken reservations for groups that size, we have been seated within a few of arriving every time. As long as that continues, I will continue to bring our group here for lunch.
Mckenzie was Amazing, she surprised me with the Margarita it was delicious, and the Tilapia with the suggested sauce was Super Delicious..
Amazing place, Valeria our waiter gave the best recommendations for drinks and food. Was patient with us when we were deciding on what to get for food. Very clean environment ànd great food.
I have not had any meal that wasn't great here! The service is great as well. They constantly check up on you! I highly recommend eating here.
We were told there would be a 25-minute wait. We were in our seats at a table in 5 minutes. Service was spot on. And the meal? Excellent. Pictured here is what is left of the Laredo: one cheese and one beef enchilada, taco, papas, and refried beans. You'll want to clean your plate better than I did. I was just too full to lick it. Chips and salsa and drinks were always topped off. Five stars all around!
Amazing food and amazing service! Our server’s name was Tracy and she was perfect, all smiles every time we saw her! Didn’t miss a beat on the refills, checked on us and made sure we were good throughout the entire time we were there! If I could give more stars I would! We will definitely be going back and requesting her again as our server for date nights!
To start with, I want to thank our waiter Tony. We have been to the restaurant 2 times in as many weeks. Tony was our server as I just came from surgery. His ability to keep up and still maintain a meaningful conversation is awesome. He is there when you need something but also busy enough that he's not intruding on your meal. Tony, that skill is a hard one to learn and harder to maintain. I can't thank you enough for making us feel so important while still having room to talk. This being our 2nd time there together, we also agreed that the flavor and presentation was also a notch higher this time. Having ordered fajitas and a grande there was A LOT of food. And as is our custom we spoke to the manager to let him know his staff was doing it right. Also having Tony pass our gratitude to the chef. Whom we found out was new. Showcasing the talent in acquisitions of management. Gentlemen if you want to make your date feel important, or heck if you just want to feel important. This is the best service, the best quality I have seen in the area. It does come at a cost but that cost is definitely on par with similar class restaurants but those guys typically lack the service level or the food quality. Be ready to take some food home too.. all of the food drinks in my photos plus a good tip was covered for $100. Good luck to everyone working at Midlands Abuelos Mexican restaurant. You're all going places, keep up the team work and family atmosphere.
We had several favorite restaurants that we used to go to before COVID. We have gone back to some of them after COVID and unfortunately none were very good, with ONE exception ABUELO'S!!! We were soooo happy to pay our bill as our taste buds got EXACTLY what they had been expecting! Sooo THANK YOU! See you soon!
You should try food is good but on some days it can be a bit of a wait for a table but not as bad as other restaurants
Great food and awesome price compared to other places that we have eaten at that cost almost $100 this place was half or a little more but well worth it
VANESSA was an AMAZING server !!! We sat at one of the bar tables and she was just AMAZING and was prompt with everything!!! I recommend her !!
Grandpas!!!!!!!!! This is one of the finer Mexican restaurants in Midland and Odessa. I’ve honestly been reluctant to review it because- what’s the point? Everyone knows it’s a great restaurant! The restaurant and bar are always clean. I’ve been here about 40 times and I’ve never had an issue with a dirty chair or table. The service is always great. They do get busy and sometimes it’s slower than other times but that is to be expected. The wait staff and bartenders are very outgoing and friendly. You will feel welcome and valued while you are there. If you like to have drinks then Abuelos has a great drink menu with bartenders that know how to mix it up right. Their bar area is well designed and always fun. There are a lot of regular characters that are hilarious that hang out here as well. This is a great place to meet coworkers after work! Let’s get to the food. The food is great. Haha. I’m not sure what else I should say. Ok I’ll say this- step outside your box and try different things here. I have yet to have a bad plate. Now I make it a point to try something new or something I don’t get very often when I eat here. I’m never disappointed. They have a great brunch lineup and this is a fun active place on Sundays as well. Enjoy Abuelos guys… it’s a cut above and worth the extra money. And it’s not really altogether that much more expensive than most Tex-mex restaurants!!
Be far one of the nicer Mexican restaurants decor wise. It has a welcoming and large waiting area. Wait times can vary during the week and especially on the weekend due to staffing issues. But it is worth it. They redid their menu so fire roasted queso is no longer available but I have to say the other options for the enchiladas were wonderful. The red chili sauce is delightfully spicy and smoky. The waitress was a professional and handled our large order without a pen and paper. She went above and beyond what most do. Would recommend this restaurant for a different take on Mexican Cuisine. Parties large or small they do it all. Thank you for a pleasant meal, Abuelos!
Great place, friendly people and perfect food. We even made a mistake when we ordered and they remade the plate for us. No fuss. I was thoroughly impressed.
Food was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive on keeping our drinks filled and letting us know the status of our order coming out of the kitchen. I would definitely return and eat again.
This has been the the best experience since we’ve been to Abuelo’s in Midland. Gavin, was amazing and made sure we were well taken care of. More servers like him are needed. Great job Gavin you’re amazing
Absolutely one of the Abuelo experiences ever. Our server McKayla (not sure of spelling) was a complete gem. She handled all her tables in our are like a pro. She served us what we needed before we could even ask. She’s a great server and we wish all servers were as in tuned to their job like she is. The food was hot fresh and beyond delicious. The shrimp and steak fajitas were top level. As our economy is out of control and it is so expensive to eat out now days, we do it very rarely. When it’s an experience instead of just a meal we feel great about the treat. Keep up the good work Abuelo’s!
We had a table of five for lunch. We were greeted upon entry and thanked for coming when we left. Not only was our cute little waitress (I apologize for not remembering your name cute red head girl who doesn’t like dogs either. Haha) spectacular but two other employees actually went out of their way to be kind and check on us as well. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The atmosphere is excellent. if I had one complaint it would be change the radio station lol
Amazing experience! Our server Wednesday afternoon was excellent. Just a mom with her daughter and we were still served as if it was a group of people! Our server even went out of his way to get my daughter a new to go beverage when she dropped hers as we were leaving. Definetly recommend dining in.
Traveling through Texas, we wanted Mexican for dinner. I googled Mexican, and so many came up. I chose Abuelos and was so glad I did. At first, I was a little disappointed that the hostess told us there was no booth available because she didn't want to overwhelm the waiter. We were seated, and Robert, our waiter, was there immediately and brought us a happy hour menu. We ordered margaritas and a draft beer. What a deal at $5! The food, a combination plate, and enchiladas were delicious. But, it was Robert that made us love this place. He checked back with us all the time, even though he was so busy. Just a great waiter all around. Highly recommend Abuelo's for an all around experience. Great waiter, great chips and salsa, and wonderful Mexican food!
We started our dinner and drinks at Abuelo’s with the La Grandeza, the house Margarita and the Raspberry Hibiscus Margarita. The hand shaker for one of the drinks was presented to us at our table and these were hands down the best margaritas I’ve had. Along with the drinks, came in fresh tortilla chips and the yummiest salsa spreads. Our server was very friendly and didn’t miss a beat on the salsa and chips refills. We then had the vegetable fajitas for the mains which were very delicious. The place didn’t have much of a wait time and it was overall a very good dinner. Definitely going back there next time we’re looking for some yummy margaritas and a pretty decent vegetarian meal.
I enjoyed an amazing supper with friends. Or server was very friendly and attentive. I had the Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp. It is an appetizer but was plenty for me. Also, in the table Fajita Tacos and Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderlions and Spinach Enchildas. We got there at 6pm and only had to wait about 10 minutes. That wasn't a long wait at all.
Really like me some a Abuelo’s when I come to Odessa/Midland generally one of my go to spots to eat dinner! Good food, most the time good service.
Came out here for the first time with family and I’ll start with Atmosphere: Beautifully designed with a calming effect somehow. Atmosphere 10/10 Service: hostess isn’t as it used to be. I say this because we had a 30 minute wait and the host didn’t even offer to take a drink order for us, which would be good for business ! Our waitress, Lily, she was phenomenal. Very observant and on point with ALL of our orders! Service 8/10 Food: I ordered the fiesta bowl which was deliciously decadent! My other daughter had the beef fajitas that had some type of bbq sauce on top, not very Texas style, sorry. The salsas were made more for the weak. My granddaughter had the quesadillas with the mushrooms, yummmm. Over all, the food was more of a 7/10.
Food was delicious , the food was severed hot! And the presentation was great!! My husband and I will be back, keep up the good work. 🤗 Today (11-3-18) my husband and I went back, they didn't disappoint. They were on Top of their game the service was great Manuel kept our drinks full and made sure we were happy and he succeeded! Everyone should come to this restaurant and ask for Manuel you wont be disappointed! They do need to let people know they have more to offer on the dessert menu other than just Flan. If it wasn't for Manuel we wouldn't have had dessert.
I had The Grande (pictured forefront) while my girlfriend ordered two enchiladas (chicken and beef). The portions were of a really good size and the food was excellent. The only reason I gave a 4 instead of a 5 was due to one of the items on The Grande. While fried on the outside, the inside was of a slimy texture and I'm big on texture. Our server, Leah, was very pleasant and did a wonderful job.
It was good for tex mex style food. But there were just a few things that hesitate to give it a 5 star. First, our guacamole was like 50% lettuce, which is unusual. Next the service was a bit slow. I had to get up to find my waitor to ask for more water. Overall the place is inviting and clean. The food is decent, but with the abundance of Mexican places around Midland, I'd try other places first before going back.
Abuelo’s Mexican restaurant is a good all-around place that has something for everyone. There is a full service bar and the margaritas are the highlight. I went with beer because that’s what I like with Mexican food. Chips and four kinds of salsa. The tomatillo is a little sweet for me. The portions are right. The flavor is plentiful. The music is lively and reminds me of Selena’s style. It’s just not authentic Mexican food. I ordered the steak fajita tacos. The waiter said, “Steak tacos.” It was good. I’m used to fajitas with vegetables and this was not it. Just not what I expected. I am NOT saying don’t go. I would go again but with different expectations. You can see I didn’t leave much behind on the plate.
Great Meal, got the combination plate, enchiladas, Chile relleno, Tacos! Food was hot and fresh, good size portion good presentation. The only issues were Salsa were not hot at all, they gave us a tray of three and none had a kick of spice at all, definitely need to address that. And that sauce over the food was good, but needed some contrast between sauces. The drinks were good, service was good, definitely hit the spot!! I do recommend!! 😋😋😋
This place is pricey. Most entrees are $20 and up. No big deal I can afford it or I wouldn’t be here, but you better earn that price tag. And you failed miserably. The service wasn’t very good, waited 7-8 minutes for my soft drink. And once we ordered food, it seemed to take forever to serve us. Everything came out correctly and all of it looked beautiful. Whatever it was my daughter ordered looked amazing and she said it didn’t disappoint. My wife and I split the fajitas trio for 2. Absolutely gorgeous. The flour tortillas tho.....😡 what do y’all do grab some store bought tortillas and throw em in the microwave? Least you could do was get em warm not a mix of refrigeration cool and warm. But still disgusting. If Rosas cafe a fast food restaurant can master a fresh hot tortilla why can’t a $20 a plate place? Come on get it right. I feel ripped off and would not recommend unless they up their tortilla game. To be honest your red salsa is trash too. Hello you’re an expensive restaurant, make fresh salsa. And can the canned stuff.
Review date June 6 2025 The atmosphere is good its a nice restaurant! Service was great, our server was on point the whole time!!! Food sucks, I ordered the Azteca plate, it comes with a enchilada, chile relleno and an empanada. The empanada had sweet meat, that is stupid, the chef ran out ideas, lol. An empanada is not a sloppy joe from a school cafeteria. The food is overall bland!!! I will give it another go in the future and hopefully the chef(s) change it up or else I will likely skip abuelos altogether
I actually like the atmosphere more than the food here. Its often on the quieter side, even when packed. Its a calm environment with plants and decor. The food isn't bad but certainly not my favorite. Admittedly, I mostly go when someone else is going.
Disappointed over restaurant not willing to serve my wife a Chile relleno burrito with beans. We didn't care for the cost, served separate on a plate. She did not like the tortilla soup flavor, so she opted for a burrito. I love the food here, now I'm afraid she may not come back.
Our waiter was amazing as well as the food. The manager is insanely rude for no reason. She condescendingly lectured me because we had my baby in a stroller outside of our booth and he was “in the way”. When I asked why they would seat us there when they saw we had him, she argued with me and said we didn’t have the stroller when we walked in (which we did). Either way, be kind and ask nicely. She acted as if we were intentionally in the way. She then made us put the carrier in the booth with us, fold up the stroller, and place it out of sight which I was not comfortable with but she said that was my only option. This is not the first time this manager has been rude and after this occurrence I won’t be back. Eating out with a young child is already stressful, none the less the manager lecturing you. Do better!
Hello, I wanted to share some feedback regarding my recent visit to your restaurant. While the food was generally good, it did not meet the usual standards I have come to expect, especially considering the price we paid. The restaurant was clean, and the server was exceptionally nice and very prompt in attending to our needs, which I appreciated greatly. However, I believe that for the price charged, the quality of the food could have been better. Specifically, the fajitas were quite tough and not cut properly, which made them difficult to enjoy. Additionally, the vegetables served with the fajitas were an unusual mix that did not complement the dish well. Lastly, the corn tortillas that accompanied the fajitas were very thick and rubbery, detracting from the overall experience. I hope this feedback is helpful and that improvements can be made moving forward. Thank you for your attention.
The chips & salsa, queso, & margaritas are really good! I would NOT recommend the fajitas!! The onions were not grilled, the fajitas were dead/cold…where I would expect them to be sizzling, since they come out on a hot skillet. The rice & beans were dried out as well. The server took them back, because they were cold & all they did was warm it a little more & add a lot more of their sauce. The fajitas & onions looked to be the same & were not fresh at all. The tortillas were not fresh or hot either.
I love cheese enchiladas and meat. The Pork Tenderloin Abrigada is my go to meal here. It is sometimes a little salty. I assume they forget how salty bacon is when seasoning the pork. They only suggestion I have is specify black bean. I personally an not a fan of charro beans or atleast not theirs. *** Update 5/27 *** I had a pretty terrible experience at Abuelo's this evening. My wife and I went and instead of the Pork Abrigada I decided to go with nachos. They came out and looked really good until I realized I did not taste chicken. I started digging through my plate and maybe found 1-2oz of chicken and thats being generous. It was the first time in my life Ive sent a plate back. The manager supposedly remade them and they came back with maybe 2-3oz tops of chicken. Maybe its just me, but that is ridiculous. Our waiter was great. I left half my food but paid and still tipped 20% +.... Id just suggest never order the nachos unless you are doing the vegetarian ones, because mine nearly passed as such. I am attaching a photo. **after discussing with several others.... I guess the quality has fallen off. I hate to hear that.**
Wow, and not in a good way. Showed up around 6pm on a Monday 1/23/22. Wasn’t really busy. I was really hungry. Might be the worst plate of Mexican food I’ve ever had. I didn’t even finish my margarita and I LOVE margaritas. First look at the plate, there is cheese on it. I requested no cheese on my tacos which there wasn’t cheese on them, but somehow melted cheese was on my plate. I wanted guac, onions and cilantro on my tacos. I got the cilantro and onions but no guac, not even on the side which is how it’s suppose to come. There was barely any rice on the plate and the rice was drier than summers in Midland and barely room temperature. The beans were super disappointing. Ala Charra beans should have some soup/broth, there was barely any and they were also barely warm. The fajita meat was ok. Look at the tortilla, I’m not sure what kind of tortilla that is. It’s not corn, but I’m not sure that’s a flour tortilla either. That little plate of food was like $16.59 plus tax. I had taken a bite or two of the taco before the picture I took, but the beans and rice I didn’t touch until after the pic. I took one bite of both the rice and beans and they were TERRIBLE. The chips and salsa were best part of the meal and they were just ok, the frozen margarita was fair, albeit expensive. $11 for a grande. My waitress did her job and was pretty attentive for the first 5-7 mins I was there. After that I didn’t see her again until she checked on me after I was done with the plate and she asked me how the food was and if everything was ok. I should of complained then but at that point I was so disappointed and hungry I was just ready to leave. My experience here was unfortunately really bad. I would love to get my money back because no part of my dinner was good.
Heard good things, so was excited. Being from the Valley, I’m always looking for Mexican food that reminds me of home. When you walk in, you’re not greeted by either of the hostess. You just casually wait at the front til they get off their phones and ask you how many. Got seated at a table for four, with one of the legs being bent. Leaned to one side, and I had to use their sugar packets to stabilize it. Our waitress was great, besides instantly asking if we were ready to order dinner. We let her know we wanted to order drinks first, and survey the menu. She came back often, and was timely. Solid waitress. The food is lackluster, and bland. I assume to cater to all, you leave the spices out and give the slight taste. Out of the three salsas, none had heat. We ordered the large guac, and it came as a few scoops of purée guacamole with some tomato’s cut up on top. Same texture as you’d imagine frosting being squeezed from a bag. Fajitas for two, was our order for dinner. They allow you to choose 4 options. We opted for double meat and double veggies. We got what one would assume would be for one on the beef fajitas, and stir fry veggies soaked in butter. They also gave us a small side of beans and rice (the same amount you’d get elsewhere for one) to share, and our waitress confirmed the individual plates have even less. The beef fajitas had no spices, and instead were grilled like a regular steak. You’d taste the same at Outback. I wouldn’t recommend coming here for Tex-Mex nor Mexican food. Though this could be a good place to bring kids, as everything was plain.
Usually great but our last visit this week was awful. My husband sent his back even. My beans were grey in color and dried out. 😩 my mom couldnt eat her chicken soup either it had huge chunks of dark weird looking chicken. Like I said we usually love it.
Food was good, but the plates and food came out way too hot! Also, please remind your servers to go to the bathroom when blowing their nose. I just watched one blow her nose, pick it, and walk off. SICK!!!
Review from a real Mexican from El Paso, TX😆 (fyi long review) My boyfriend and I went on Memorial Day 5/26/25. It was pretty empty but a few of the places that were open. I had been telling my boyfriend that I wanted to eat at a place with some chips and salsa. Something typical we get in most restaurants in EP. But ok, here in Midland obviously I haven’t had a restaurant with any good Mexican food yet. I gave this place a chance. Even though I was starving I was not craving anything from their menu 😩 I opted to play it safe and get the Trio Fajitas. While waiting, I was trying out their salsas. The chips were good, but the salsas wow not even a hint of spice or flavor 😭 the only decent one was one of the four they brought us. The tomatillo salsa literally tasted like they added sugar, it was so sweet to me. The other was just plain tomato sauce. When my food arrived I asked the server if he could please bring me more of the only salsa I had liked and he said he would bring me that one plus an habanero salsa that was spicy. Well none were spicy to me but a little better than the other ones. The FOOD. Okay, let’s talk about the food. $30 for a fajita skillet I expected something good. Well, first off my food smelled like sweet or bbq. I was like uhh?? It didn’t even smell like they had cooked it with some spices or anything. The fajitas were so bland 2/10. The chicken was ok 4/10 and the shrimp had bbq sauce on top , like what??? 1/10. I proceed to make myself a taco, then realize they only gave me 3 tortillas!! Oh lord I wasn’t having it but whatever it was just to try it out. The rice was fine 5/10. The beans surprisingly weren’t sweet nor did they add bbq sauce I give those a 7/10. Food experience I give this place 2/10. Service: I must say our server was very sweet and attentive. He keeps refilling our tea’s, and was checking up on us. So he’s service is a 10/10. Hostess: eh they were whatever, nothing good or bad to say about them. Atmosphere: I liked the place, it has potential and it is clean. I liked the hacienda vibes. The few people there seemed to be having a good time. I just wish the food was actually good and authentic 😣 it’s not even Tex Mex, just plain, not seasoned Mexican food. It’s just my personal opinion, from what I see other people seem to like it and that’s fine 😊
This is the second 1 star review I’ve given Abuelos, I’m so disappointed in how this place has changed since Craig left. We came in for dinner, asked to be seated at the bar. The manager said there were no tables at the bar. I said I understood but there is one open, clean and ready to go. I was told it would be a five minute wait. I tried to be patient until she seated the next customer. When I questioned her she said but you want to be at the bar, they wanted regular seating yet there was a place available. We choice to leave for the poor customer service and yet what happens, the next person was immediately seated. The manager was rude and not accommodating. We went to Providencia and the food and service was outstanding. They were above and beyond!
Sunday 3/23/25. Arrived on time for our reservation and waited not long. Was sat right beneath the very loud speaker. Waitress took drinks and appetizer orders. Drinks came out, not fully correct, we then ordered our food and she disappeared. Came around after 1 hour passed. Said “oh dang let me check” came back to say soon and at that time 1 glass was noted to have something really gross stuck on the sides. She replied “oh what the hell, gross”. When she brought that replacement drink back I asked for the limes that I was still waiting for, what’s up with the food and is that your manager??? The table behind us was still waiting on food and drinks About another 20 minutes go by and someone else brings out food out. Lucky for us it was piping hot which makes us think she forgot to put the order In. She finally came around and filled waters and I asked for a refill. I was legit drinking my refill when it was noted to have something incredibly gross in it at the bottom. What! I refused another drink from that mess. The customer service was awful, no comps for seriously the worst experience. It was ridiculous to watch others who came in behind us to get their food and check out before us. It was so incredibly loud that we couldn’t have a decent conversation. And they crammed 5 of us on a 4 person table. It was a disaster and the waitress still expected a tip 🤯
When they sat us down we waited 20 mins to be asked our drink order. Then we had to wait 10 mins to receive them. Our waitress kept using our table as her chip holder we literally had three bowls of chips. Why? I have no clue. I asked for a refill and she filled my tea half way then walked away. When we received our food my steak was well done. I couldn’t even chew it. I had asked for a med steak so she had to take it back and I had to once again wait some more. Then we never saw our waitress. We walked up to the front to try to pay due to our missing waitress. They asked me if I had my check I said no! So let talk about how they couldn’t even find my waitress either. Then told me they took my steak off yet I still paid $100! Are you serious! I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN! And yes I will be posting this on all social media platforms.
On July 9th at 09:00PM, we came to Abuelo’s like we always do when we are in town. We are from Waco, so it’s always a nice thing to look forward to when we are in Midland. When we walked in to be seated, the host told us that only high tops were available as the rest of the seating sections were closed already. It was only 9 PM. We decided to stay and were seated at one of the high top tables, and Yohannes the server promptly came to our table. We quickly discovered that he was the only server still working, and the other employees were standing around chatting or cleaning. It was clear for us that he was overwhelmed as there was at least five tables remaining to be served. The other employees offered no help whatsoever. Halfway through our meal, one of the female employees shouted that her tables took too long to leave and complained about having to clean her area. She continued to be impolite and unprofessional, cursing and waving her hands about the inconvenience. It was clear that not only us, but the other guests were very uncomfortable with the scene. It was clear that most of the employees did not want to work anymore and we’re just standing around waiting for 10 PM to arrive. Through all of this, our waiter, Yohannes remained professional and polite to us. Somehow, that same female employee after causing a scene, started arguing with our server Yohannes about having to recheck her section and sweep around the tables that she had clearly missed. She was refusing to have to re-clean her area, but Yohannes offered to help her and show her how to sweep correctly. It was at this point the host came over to our section and started making jokes to the female employee making the scene worse as she was already not happy about re-cleaning her area. The host also loudly said he was going to close the doors early at 9:55 to keep other clients from coming in and eating. Our experience ended in a very uncomfortable way with employees that clearly had nobody managing them. Zero respect for their coworker Yohannes and none for the customers. We decided to leave without finishing our food. The one star is only for Yohannes. We would leave zero if we could.
My glass was dirty and somehow still had soap bubbles floating in it, I even got a 2nd glass that came out the same. Everything came to our table cold. My fajitas the vegatables were boiled they were wet and falling apart with nearly no charred marks from being sauteed. The initial queso i,ordered tastes like its just tostitos jar cheese. But i still tried my entree but only one bite of everything. Our server Jason did a great job and was very helpful. I dont understand how a place that bad survived 2020. But it does look really nice inside. O wish I could give it 0 stars
The food was not very good. It was room temperature. The stuffed mushrooms were terrible. The atmosphere looks nice at first glance but everything is covered in dust. When the food finally arrived the server pulled a rag out that was tucked into the back of his pants and used it to handle our plates. I noticed many servers doing the same. Not really sanitary. Our server let the rag lay on the plate over the taco and In the guacamole as he sat them on the table. He then stuck his finger in the hotsauce as he moved it across the table, and left it sitting on our table. When something was said to him he simply did Not return to our table. We will definitely not be returning. Five star price for a one star experience.
Plastic garbage is the only way I can describe the food. Now, hear me out: I get that in Midland, Texas there exists a clientele who just doesn’t care. They’re here on company time and on the company dime. This doesn’t mean that these restaurants should be this apathetic. Stone cold, flavorless, and passionless food. No utensils. Honestly, if it were just crap food they’d get three stars, because I knew what I was walking into. No utensils is just a slap in the face. Put a plastic knife and fork into every bag. Every single one. Y’all failed, and y’all are garbage. This isn’t Uber’s fault. 45 bucks and I can’t eat my food.
I would give them zero stars if there was an option we had a Christmas party plan for 18. We confirmed last night and they canceled our reservations 20 minutes before we arrived. Worst customer service ever!!!!!
Where should I begin ! 2 people having to wait when it wasn’t busy at all ! Finally got seated after 20 minutes seeing empty tables everywhere! Ordered a margarita and it was WAY TO SOUR !! Service is unbelievably slow ! When I wanted another drink , the server didn’t take my drink nor give me a menu to find order something else . Had to take my drink to the bar ! Finally got another drink and still waiting for our dinner ! ! Won’t be back Update : got our food and it’s cold . Leaving and not returning
Things have changed at Abuelo’s. I have spoken to the manager before about how you don’t feel invited to their restaurant anymore. We went in tonight with tables open everywhere and wanted to sit at the bar area. But it was not available and would be a wait time. We left and the manager was not apologetic or concerned why people were leaving. I don’t want to go where you feel like you’re not welcome as a customer.
Been in midland for a few months and would always drive by this place and was very excited to try it. Finally went yesterday with my gf and my experience was nothing close to what I was expecting, nobody working seemed happy to be there from the door girl to the servers even the cooks the way my food came out. Ordered chips and queso, queso definitely was straight from a can from Walmart, and the main dishes were even worst. Ordered a quesadilla it was a half ass amount of cheap steak slapped on a stale tortilla, my beans were so dry they looked like they were served from the night before. Even my gfs food was just as bad quality wise, very disappointing to say the least. Here I am leaving a review a day later I’m still disappointed.
As you know and as posted in my profile. My reviews reflect the actual vist and not multiple visit. FRIST the cost for 3 people with only 2 extras, was 1 pacific beer and Queso. At 2:45 pm the cost, with 18% tip, $87. The atmosphere and decor as awesome. It had the Joe T. Garcia feel, but all indoors, so much better. The food was 5 tumbs up for all 3 of us. But for accuracy 6 tumbs down. 2 orders were wrong. My son order the Tamale dinner with no cheese and my wife ordered the Lunch Chilli Relleno & Enchilada Dinner. The wife asked for meat and cheese in her Relleno and my son asked for NO cheese. My wife didn't get the beef, only cheese on her Relleno. My son, got cheese on his Tamales. It had to be recorded. However, I ordered the Lunch Grande Burrito with no sour cream. My plate was perfect. So my wife and I ate, my son had to wait for his meal to be remade. I was done and my wife was just about done when my son got his meal. It was very obvious it was placeed as an "rushed" order. When I mentioned this to waitress, she said "I would to check if it was the kitchen or my mistake". I didn't get a discount or a manger wasn't requested by her. I just paid the full price plus tip. It seems the Manager would empower their staff to be able to make decisions on the spot when it was clearly the "Teams" mistake. I asked that she do a better job next time to help the next customer. The wait staff that takes the order has to be proactive for their table, the people their sre working for. , if not let it be a buffet. In today's world were we have to be our on activists, I would never guess we have to add restaurants. If true, there goes the tip. Hey you "incharged" person, enforce the golden rule. LET'S ALL STAND FOR SEVICE FOR THE CUSTOMER. What a waste of an atmosphere and $87. Next customer, you been told.I'll never go back.
I don’t know why this place says they cook Mexican food, it was horrible and nasty, not authentic at all, we went because of the reviews on here and we just moved here and haven’t unpacked our kitchen yet, so we were trying to get some good food, But I’m very disappointed, they don’t even use real Mexican cheese, they don’t have Mexican drinks, terrible. Better off going to Taco Bell seriously. I’m not trying to be mean but it was a waste of money that I can’t get back. My kids didn’t like it at all, my youngest had the nachos and they were fried tortillas cut in half with meat on top and shredded cheese, the tortillas were sour from almost being burned, he had one piece, my oldest had the mix fajita chimichanga and he took three bites and said he didn’t like it, my husband was trying so hard to put up a brave face because we were not having a good time, but he didn’t like his (not surprised) he had a big plate with enchiladas and a hard shell taco and the worst tamale I have ever tasted, I had the chiles rellenos but I told our waitress that I didn’t like it and she took it back. I’m glad they didn’t charged me for it. I’m not Mexican and can cook better Mexican food than this, seriously calling what they serve Mexican food it’s an absolute insult to Mexican food. The only good thing we had was the chips.
