Taste of China Montgomery Reviews
Been come'n here on & off again since this place opened up back in the day, and I gotta admit, it's pretty dang good. Travel a lot for work and always like to try different things to mix it up a bit, but I have to say, even though this place may not be THE best place I've ever eaten at (hard to say my own family's cook'n ain't the best, so I digress) A smidge pricey on the add-ons when you want extra veggies or whatever, but not obscene. Definitely recommend this place if you happen to be in the area. P.S. Winnie is a sweetheart, and this is come'n from a guy that's horrible with remembering names.
This is without doubt the best Chinese restaurant for the average person in the Montgomery, Conroe and Woodlands area. The food is fresh, cooked to perfection, very adequate portions, reasonably priced and served hot. It is not a buffet establishment and each order is cooked not microwaved. This is my favorite Chinese place. No frills just good food.
We usually get our food delivered from here, and it's always on time and delicious. But today really stood out. After a rough day, my wife and I came home to hungry kids and a lot of stress. We placed our order, and just 18 minutes later, it arrived—piping hot and incredibly fresh. We live about 10 minutes away, so the speed and quality were amazing. This place never disappoints. Truly the best! --- Would you like a shorter version for a platform with a character limit, or maybe a more casual or humorous tone?
This restaurant is clean and inviting. The food arrived hot and delicious. I ordered the sampler appetizer, fried rice, and beef lo mein. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted great. It’s no wonder this is a popular spot for Chinese food, eating in or take out.
I'm absolutely obsessed with this incredible Chinese traditional dish eggplant. This is not your regular eggplant boring this is sensational flavor. It taste like buttery flavorful savory OMG goood! I added chicken to it for extra protein was so delicious!! Try it next time your here at this local restaurant.Very upscale flavors.
December 2020: Decided to give them one last shot. What we got tonight reminds me of when we first started going here. Everything was on point. Taste of China is now back in our dining rotation! Super flavorful and cooked perfectly! August 2020: I really loved this place, but it has gone downhill. My favorite dish is nothing like what it used to be.. It used to be so flavorful and always cooked perfectly. I have given them 3 chances, and each time I order the product is worse. We decided to give it one more try tonight, and they sealed their fate. My chicken and string beans had no flavor and I'm assuming the congealed mess in it is what SHOULD be the sauce it usually had. I took 4 bites and now am trying to figure out what else I'm going to eat for dinner. So sad. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review: I really love this place. My husband and I have eaten here almost weekly since they have opened up. Every time we get something different and have never had one problem with our orders or the quality of the food. The staff is ALWAYS super helpful and nice and we've had them all. Prices are also great. We've literally not had one problem with them ever.
Great food and fast every time! A little expensive for takeout but sometimes it's just worth it when have that urge for good Asian food and fast.
My sweetie & I shared a quick dinner here last night. They were crowded & handled the flow well. This is our first dine-in & we have used delivery. The restaurant is very pretty & clean. The employees are courteous. Please note this rating (& all my ratings for any Montgomery/Conroe restaurants, for that matter, are skewed for this area specifically). For Montgomery, it's great! Definitely go here! Compared to other areas in Tx & regionally, Taste of China nor most of our other dining choices here in Montgomery & Conroe are NOT IN ANY REALM OF THE IMAGINATION 4-5 STAR FOOD. The food is just "good"...for here...but not great. Before you get upset, the only reason I am differentiating here is because when I see a place rated as 4-5 stars, I expect a DIVINE CULINARY EXPERIENCE & chef curated food. THIS is not THAT! Compared to other chinese in the area, its ranks on the higher end. Now for our food. We enjoyed hot tea, pan fried dumplings that were very light & crispy & egg rolls w/our entrees. Please note to ask for hot mustard if you want it as it is not served. The pan fried dumplings and egg rolls were delicious! We would come back just for those by themselves! Entrees were General Tso's chicken & Beef on Sizzling Platter (which we had them modify to make it spicy). The Tso's was plated beautifully but the bowl is very difficult to eat out of due to the humongous size of chicken pieces & almost impossible to incorporate rice into. They should provide a plate. I used a saucer...not very well. The Tso's sauce was tasty (a bit thick) & spicy on its own & didn't require added chili oil. The chicken they serve here in the fried dishes, I most certainly take issue with! While it's fresh, white meat (not fatty), whichI have tried in several of their chicken dishes & it's always these HUGE balls/pieces of meat. Here's the problem: First & foremost, it should be lightly CRUNCHY!!! I also support the POV that a ratio of meat-to-breading-to-sauce is CRUCIAL & should compliment the dish. I don't think they achieve that goal. The huge pieces must be cut up into 4-6 bites. Usually when I order Tso's/Sesame/orange chicken elsewhere, some pieces must be cut into 2 & others are just one crunchy bite. Not these! I also think their breading gets very soggy, very fast. In fact, I have NEVER experienced a crunchy bite on one of these dishes here. The breading is too thin, without any discernable crunch whatsoever. Perhaps rice flour+cornstarch to elevate some crunch here! The entire point in ordering fried anything is the CRUNCH of a batter. Lacking crunch, what's the point of splurging on fried food?!! Okay, now for the beef. It is served sizzling on an iron platter & is pretty. Soooo, this was my last bite of the night & it didn't go well. The beef was super tender & the sauce & veggies were great but whatever they do to the beef, it didn't taste like beef (texturally or otherwise). My brain & my tastebuds were very confused!
1. It’s a Chinese restaurant for non-Chinese people, most of the dishes taste sweet including the vegetable dish. 2. If you order hot tea, they give you one small tea pot with two teabags inside and they charge by heads/cups, the worst part is they don’t tell you upfront that they charge by per person. So when I saw the $11.25 for the little tea pot we had, I was shocked. Their explanation is they give you hot water refill, however, they did not give us any refill (although I cracked the lid a little to show empty pot) until we asked, and we only had one refill. After I requested for a discount on the tea, they charged for two instead of three, so the price for that one small pot of hot tea dropped to $7.50. Summary : $3.75 per person for one tiny pot of hot tea is not reasonable, especially when the teabags are cheap tea leaf crumbs.
Not that we have any choices for Chinese food in the Montgomery area, while the food quality is pretty good. The portions are small; they DO NOT fill the containers and the prices have seemed have gone up quite a bit the past few years, it’s still better than fast food or driving further away I suppose. The shrimp eggrolls in particular were a massive disappointment. They are very small and barely had anything inside of them.
i ordered on door dash spent 50$! food taste horrible. sweet n sour sauce taste like they bathed a dog in it and also they forgot my fried rice that they charged me and extra 4$ for when it’s supposed to come with the meal .
We ordered delivery at 5:21 PM just some General Tso's chicken now at 7:04 PM our food still has yet to arrive. A simple 2 small easy meal order and they can't manage it for the record it is Tuesday not even a busy night. Each time we call them they say 10 more minutes and we wait 15 and call again to get the same answer we called 3 times now. Do not order online or via call just drive there it will take less time.
Placed a pick up order for Kung Pao Chicken, Chicken lettuce wraps, Crab Puffs, Coconut Thai Curry with shrimp and egg rolls. The crab puffs were the only good thing we ate. The rest were edible but that's it. Sad this place use to be ok at least. If you are in WoodForest neighborhood Mikado is much better on 1488.
Restaurant inside is much nicer than anticipated! Went for lunch with my daughter and my sister. The fried rice had no flavor, the orange chicken was dry but the smell inside—I cannot even describe how weird it smelled. We got the egg drop soup (would have preferred if it didn’t have sweet corn in it but I should have read description better), we got crab ragoon which was fine, orange chicken. That smell though…. It wasn’t a food smell, made it really hard to be inside the restaurant.
Hate to leave such neg reviews but it needs to be said. Service average food awful!! This restaurant has the market cornered in Montgomery due to lack of competition. Restaurant owners take note... let's get some real Chinese food in our fair town!
Do Not Go There I am surprised this restaurant have 4 stars because to me don’t deserve even one . I ordered food the first time here I am was excited because at home we like Chinese food but let me tell you was not a good decision. First the portion of the food was so small for the price and the was not good. No flavor and its taste bitter for some reason maybe was old ingredients no idea . I just know I waste my money and time . 4 pieces of chicken is a joke . We work hard to be able to buy food that supposed to be good and is not is so disappointing. I am done with take out food and restaurants. They don’t care of what they are cooking. Even Macdonals is better than some restaurants .
