Really love this place! I booked myself a dinner on a workday. The staff are really nice and welcoming. I got the signature Omurice and lettuce salad. I have to say they are absolutely the BEST in their category!! The texture and flavor are superb. In comparison, the dessert is still good but less impressive. Great atmosphere too. Highly recommend😍

All the food tasted so good! I really believe it’s authentic Japanese food. Everything felt carefully prepared and full of flavor. The owner (or manager) was so nice and welcoming. We brought flowers with us, and he kindly put them in a vase for us. He was also very friendly and easy to chat with, which made the whole experience even more special. The Omu Hayashi rice was super tasty, and the kiwi grapefruit mocktail was so refreshing and delicious! Highly recommend this place! 😊

Incredible find on the foundation of Jazz history. A delectable selection of Japanese deserts with the highlight being the fluffy cakes and favorite toppings, of which the maple syrup and butter with a side of ice cream was superb. Melts in your mouth. The siphon teas were intriguing to the eye and to the palate. Distinct clear tones without the tannin and toasty after taste - this is the best drip style coffee I’ve ever had and we tried three geographical ranges beans and each was exquisite. Now top it off the kind and friendly service with enthusiasm for the items on the menu made this a cultural experience Coming back for more!!!!

I am addicted to their curry, I daydream about when I can get it again. The siphon coffee and iced teas are so well done and delicious as well. I also recommend getting hotcakes for the table because those you can’t miss either!

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the city! Both the sweet and savory options are amazing, and the coffee/tea selection is excellent. Service is friendly, fast, and accommodating and the decor is nice. I highly recommend the honey toast!

A cozy spot with friendly service! The food is on the heavier side, but it was a hearty, satisfying meal. If you’re craving some authentic Japanese, definitely give this place a try~

The Hayashi Omurice was so satisfying - the egg was perfectly velvety and soft, and paired beautifully with the rich Hayashi sauce. The ambience of the restaurant has a lovely blend of modern and traditional Japanese aesthetics with warm and wood-accented decors. A charming spot for a simple & comforting Omurice and other Japanese bites.

This place is amazing! We sat at the bar which was really fun. We got the regular omurice which reminded us of being back in Japan, it was perfect. The pancakes were fun but I might skip them next time to order another savory dish. Highly recommend!

the vibes were amazing and so was the food! had the parfait but a friend got the omurice—the egg was so soft and warm, and the portion seemed really reasonable and good for its price point! the pour over coffee was delightful with more acidity than bitterness, and the tangerine tea had notes of citrus which was quite refreshing. on sundays from 5pm there is a live jazz bar; would definitely come visit for that hour next time!

Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff. Omurice was perfect, coffee was very cool (tasted OK), coffee jelly was lacking sweetness and a bit too bitter. The bathrooms also have Japanese toilets :0

They serve japanese cuisine that taste so good! The service is perfect. You should make reservation before. The ambience is really nice. And they have restroom looklike in Japan with bidet as well, it’s surprising since quite difficult to find it in NY lol!

Hi Collar offers a delightful slice of Japanese comfort in a cozy, stylish setting. We enjoyed the rich and savory Hayashi Omurice and Katsu Hayashi—both perfectly balanced with tender meat and deep, flavorful sauce. The Hot Cake was fluffy and nostalgic, while the newly added Honey Toast was indulgently crisp on the outside and soft inside—a true standout. Their special coffees complemented the meal beautifully, adding a refined touch to the overall experience. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic Japanese flavors with a modern café twist.

WHAT. A. VIBE! I felt like I was back in Japan when I walked into Hi-Collar. Beautiful atmosphere, amazing staff and great food. We went on a Sunday and they now have Jazz nights! We got to hear some great music while we were eating delicious food and drinking amazing sake. Perfect date night vibe.

Best omurice! We both loved the hayashi omurice which is more flavorful than the original tomato sauce (not as balanced). Also please come for brunch and order one of their speciality coffees. We had the Hana (very smooth) and some special fermented guava coffee which was absolutely amazing. Very very unique. Long lines without reservations.

Would come here for the dessert and tea over the food again. The hotcakes and parfait were a delicious pairing. I wish the hotcakes were softer and fluffier but it was still very good. The fruit parfait was a great balance of fruit, rice crispy, and ice cream (vanilla and hojicha). The Jeju tea was very fragrant, and could get them iced or hot. It’s a bit pricy for tea but well worth the price as you can taste the quality. The hayashi rice was good but the serving size felt small. The hayashi did not have much beef slices. The katsu pieces are also small but they were fried very well. The omurice was underwhelming. It could also have been fluffier and felt overcooked. Overall, make reservations and come for the dessert and tea.

We really enjoy eating here even with a baby. Omurice is amazing, specially the hayashi omurice. The rice is well cooked, nice texture and well combined with the egg and sauce. Dessert is okay compared to the price and the. We appreciate the berry hot cake with light texture and flavor balance more than the matcha (too thick) However, napolitan spaghetti is a fail. Ordered by curious but regret from the first bite. Really salty. Nice atmosphere, you can have little chat with friends without bothering other table. Wish that they have a high chair for baby!

The menu changed 2 months ago and they no longer serve souffle pancakes (sad). Came on a Sunday at 1 pm and we were seated immediately. The food was plated well but not particularly outstanding. The hayashi omurice was good. They didn't give us a fork to cut the pancakes with, which we originally thought was just how they operate, but later saw the table next to us had one. Servers could be a bit more attentive. Otherwise nice atmosphere. Bill came out to ~$64 before tax and tip

The center Japan style water fountain and cute bar on the side brings a bit of Japan to new york East Village location. Good use of former sushi place decor. The service meets expectation and friendly host. The food can use a little help. Great lunch date spot.

Great ambience and plenty of space! Their hayashi omurice and us wagyo steak and vegetables was so good! I don’t recommend the Tori karaage appetizer because they’re small pieces and tastes more on the bland side. But overall, pretty dining place and great omurice.

This restaurant is very cute and I've been meaning to stop by for the pancakes that everyone have been raving about. We ordered omurice, curry and a few other items. The food had good flavors, but it was nothing to write home about. The pancakes were pretty good but took a while to make. I'm not sure they were worth all the hype, but I would certainly eat the pancakes again. Overall: Good food, but expensive. If I come again, I will just order the pancakes.

I went right when they opened on a weekday and was able to get in smoothly without a reservation since it wasn’t too crowded. The atmosphere inside was nice, and the staff gave me a warm welcome. The omurice was soft and Japanese-style, which some people may love, but it might not be to everyone’s taste—especially for Americans who might find the texture a bit unfamiliar. The katsu hayashi was on the heavier side overall. I ended up with extra rice, so I wish there had been a bit more hayashi sauce. Overall, I felt the value for the price and portion size was a bit underwhelming.

Yun

Food was pretty expensive for the quality/ taste. The atmosphere is really nice and cozy. When we got our food there was a sticker on the dried orange slice and a hard chunk in the omelet rice. The dishes were on the salty side, not rich in flavor, and very one dimensional. There’s better places in nyc that are more worth the price. Service is mediocre, staff aren’t really attentive but is friendly.
