Mr. Sun New York Reviews
A new handmade dumpling restaurant has opened near Times Square. What's best is that they don't require tipping, which is great. I'll definitely come again next time.
i No problem with getting a table. We had the crabmeat soup dumplings, haw gow, pork/shrimp shu mai, Singapore noodles, spicy shrimp, Chinese broccoli, half order Peking duck, bbq platter and Sapporo beer to wash it down. The duck was fresh with crispy skin and portion was just right for 2 people. Soup dumplings were flavorful, bbq platter was on the small side but tasty, spicy shrimp were great. I've order take out before but this was the first time eating at the restaurant. I was not disappointed and will be back again.
We stumbled upon this restaurant while visiting the Rockefeller Center, and it’s definitely a spot you should visit for lunch! From Monday to Friday, 11 AM to 3 PM, they offer a lunch combo that includes two BBQ meats, vegetables, and your choice of soup or soda. We came for dinner, so we had to order à la carte, which is less cost-effective than lunch. The House Special Roast Pork (Char Siu) is incredibly delicious — the balance of sweet and savory flavors is perfect! The Pork Belly w. Special Sauce is also amazing. Both ends are crispy, and the center is tender. The dipping sauce complements it very well. The Peaking Duck is roasted in two batches daily (once in the morning and once in the afternoon). The plating is beautiful, and the duck tastes great! The Steam Egg Custard Buns (3) are actually salted egg yolk custard buns — rich and satisfying. The Pea Shoots w. Chicken Soup were just okay — they use mature pea shoots rather than the tender young ones, so try it based on your preference. The service was also excellent — friendly and attentive.
Stopped by for a lunch on Thursday. I ordered through their website for pick up but the lady at the restaurant told me that it’s not working so I ordered at the counter, which it was good to know. I ordered lunch special of roast duck over the brown rice and shrimp roll. I just waited less than 10 minutes and food was ready. Nicely packed including utensils. Roast duck was tasty but not too oily and shrimp rolls were very good. I will go back again to stay next time!
I spent days researching, looking for a spot with GOOD Peking Duck for my birthday and this place was perfect! They accommodated my group of 17 guests and adapted to our needs. They made my birthday a perfect experience. The food was unique and delicious. The duck was PERFECT. It was sublime. The duck was juicy, tender, and soooooo tasty! The cake was not baked by them it was brought from a bakery I reached out to that delivers and everything went smoothly. Will definitely be back. Staff is very kind and helpful. Lots of good recommendations and explained dishes thoughtfully. Thank you!
One of the best Chinese restaurants, great food, great service and fairly price located in Midtown, NYC (near to Rockefeller Center). I have been this restaurant with my family and friends so many times, and all of them have positively impressions. Service is so friendly and politely no matter the restaurant is busy or not, treat all customers same way. The overall environment of the restaurant is clean with setting up simple wooden tables and chairs, it is not a high-class restaurant, but feel comfortable. My kids are so picky but they like this restaurant so much, and recommend the food, especially Peking Duck, Stir-Fried Tiger Prawns, Salted Egg Yolk Fish Fillet, Beef Tenderloin with Black Truffle Sauce, Soup Dumplings with Crab Meat, Pea Shoots with Chicken Soup and Crispy Eel. We will definitely come back again.
Ordered lunch here via grubhub. First time eating here. My order came 25 minutes fast than initial estimated. The food was well packaged. I loved that they took care for no spills. The presentation was an A for me. Rarely do you get food delivered that didn't look as if it was thrown together. 👏. The duck was really good. Soup dumplings were delicious. Loved the generous portion along with the Chinese broccoli. Will definitely eat here again.
I have been here many times. Clean environment, good services, the most friendly Jackson, he is patient for us. the food tasty and high quality. Most recommended for spicy fish, steamed boneless fish, it’s fresh and yummy. Beijing Roast Duck is amazing. I really like the stewed beef in sour soup too. But mixed cold jellyfish is so-so. High recommend for this restaurant !
The Peking duck was advertised and it was really good! Decent price for the location and accessibility outside of Chinatown. The soup dumpling skins were on the thicker side but the flavor in them was amazing. We also got the pan fried rice noodles which were good but slightly on the oily side. Overall very pleased with my meal and they do take reservations. The staff inside are really really friendly as well.
The food was great, I had got the chicken fried rice and it was honestly some of the best fried rice I’ve ever had and I’m usually picky when it comes to chickens fried rice. The staff was very nice and helpful especially the lady that waited on me and the group I was with. I loved that they made sure that your water stayed full too, I highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely come back again.
Ordered delivery from here and am very happy. The food was absolutely delicious. We gave the soup dumplings to a friend who has never had soup dumplings, and he said it was amazing. The mapo tofu was also amazing, definitely a lot better than the average mapo tofu. The spicy fish was also soooo good. The Chinese food at this restaurant is legitimate. Will definitely come again.
Went for lunch with coworkers for lunar new year. We did family style and ordered a bunch of entrees. My favorites were the pea shoots, chongqing spicy chicken, har gow, and fish filet in hot chili oil. Portion size could be bigger and the service can improve a little, though the staffs are friendly. The restaurant is a bit outdated, esp the interior decor and table/seats. Also, would’ve been nice if all the entrees came out at once instead of one entree at a time, esp when we didn’t even get our rice until a bit later. We also ordered a whole peking duck which only half came out first then after we finished that one, the other one came out which we didn’t realize they split it so it was a bit awkward eating the other half at the end when everyone was basically done eating. Not sure if I’d be back to dine here but maybe order their lunch specials from time to time.
First time eating in this restaurant with my family and they were very accommodating, the service was great and we were satisfied with most dishes. We ordered three different fried rice, 2 servings of pork belly with house special sauce, beef with truffle sauce, fish fillet with tofu and lo mein. We really enjoyed the pork belly and beef with truffle sauce. But the fish fillet with tofu was too salty for our taste buds. As much as we enjoyed most of the dishes, I'll give them 4stars. But hopefully the next time we return, the fish fillet with tofu would no longer be as salty.
A pretty good place to get some some elevated dim sum near the Time Square area! Service was really nice and the food was made well and was super tasty! The truffle dumplings were super flavorful and looked amazing! Pitch black and definitely stunning when they came out. A good mix of delicate flavors! The Duck Dumpling was really delicious too! Good chunks of duck and pillowy. The Siu Mai was really fresh and I noticed the chunks of pork that gave it an excellent texture! We also got some noods on the side that was really yummy too! Overall, a great place to check out for some unique and trendy dim sum and other dishes!!
Tl;dr: 3.5* Was excited to see a new place with soup dumplings in the old mr Sun location. Pros: most everything I ordered was great. I got lamb & celery dumplings, pork & crab soup dumplings, cucumber salad. The soup dumplings had good flavor but missing a lot of soup. Cons: no physical menus, ordering from an app. But the worst was they could not give me a glass of water, just tried to sell me a bottle of water. Honestly will probably not come back just over that. Few other touches like no soup dumpling tongs or vinegar/ginger for the soup dumplings (there’s an all purpose dumpling sauce that is good).
The food was outstanding, the service was not. The food came out in a very scattered fashion, and after getting about a third of our order the food stopped coming. We had to ask 2 different people before anyone was able to help. It took an extra 25 minutes to get the rest of the food and we had to take one item off the bill because it had taken so long. The food made this frustrating situation better though. The pig custard buns were adorable and delicious. The soup dumplings were amazing, and the beef soup was outstanding. Save the time and frustration with service and get takeout.
