Pepe Giallo New York Reviews
My adventures in Chelsea took me here, after reading reviews I decided to come check them out. I absolutely loved my experience. Good customer service, the food was amazing, and the ambience was cozy. I settled in as a party of 1 by the front window and got to people watch as well. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem!
Wonderful Italian restaurant in Chelsea. Walked in without a reservation (2) and they were able to accurate us even though they were full. Good and large portions. Food was excellent as well as service. Definitely a place to come back to when in the neighborhood
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Papa Giallo is the kind of neighborhood gem that feels instantly reassuring. The room is quietly inviting—relaxed, unpretentious, and designed for lingering—while the service sets the tone from the start: attentive, gracious, and effortlessly warm, the sort that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Consistency is the restaurant’s greatest luxury. The kitchen delivers with calm confidence, turning out pastas that are precise, deeply comforting, and reliably excellent. The Narcino stands as the house signature and an enduring favorite—rich yet restrained, soulful without excess, and executed with the kind of assurance that comes from knowing exactly what works. Papa Giallo doesn’t chase trends or theatrics. Instead, it offers something far more satisfying: a polished, dependable dining experience that feels timeless. A must-stop if you’re in town—and an easy habit once you’re not.
Food was delicious! Got a pizza which was thin crust and very tasty. Atmosphere was charming and they have a beautiful indoor patio space. Our server Chris, was very kind, attentive and made great food/drink recommendations; he helped make the dining experience even better!!
Loved everything about Pepe Giallo! The ambiance is reminiscent of a small town somewhere in Italy. One of the best ricotta ravioli I've eaten- the dish was so good I forgot to take a photo 🤷🏾♀️.. We had a bottle of lambrusco which was absolutely devine. I highly recommend this restaurant 👌🏾
I have been dining here for over 20 years . The food always amazing and the owners are wonderful. It’s constantly a great meal. I’m finally reviewing although I would have said the same 20years ago . Grazie Mille 🍷 4/5/23 Back again for another great meal . 7/12/23 Happy Hour if fun too. 12/15/ 23 Back again for an always wonderful lunch. 5/17/25 Fun lunch outside
A really great spot we stumbled upon! The fried calamari and zucchini was great, the basket was filled to the brim! I loved my pasta and fresh bread. I had the spicy sausage pappardelle which wasn’t very spicy to me but still very fresh and tasty! My partner had the chicken parm which was also great. Our server was extremely attentive and kind. Definitely will be saving this place! Very cute inside.
I've seen this restaurant for years and never really bother to come in for a meal. The staff was the friendliest and most attentive servers I've had in a while. The ambiance is really cute, chill and inviting, and the food was very well worth it. Def recommended the Italian American cuisine is on the spot
Pepe Giallo is THE spot to hit up, no doubt! My partner and I stumbled upon it while exploring the city, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer! The food was out-of-this-world delicious and left us feeling completely satisfied. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, and the pasta? Absolute perfection. Plus, the wine they suggested paired flawlessly. A memory we'll treasure forever!
We came to this restaurant at 8pm on a Friday night and it was at capacity. I’d recommend having a reservation for Friday and Saturday nights. We left around 10pm and at that point half of the tables were empty. I loved the vibe and decor of the restaurant. The food was also great and definitely not overpriced. We got the branzino and the portion was very big. We shared fish, linguine and roasted veggies between two of us and that was enough food. Highly recommend this spot if you live in Chelsea!
It was difficult to choose a place for dinner but we’re glad we chose this place! It was a nicely decorated restaurant with ambiance. The table received bread with our meals. We got 2 pastas(penne vodka) and a pizza which were all great. The pasta looked like a small portion but it winded up being enough at the end of our meal.
The food is amazing, and the menu is quite diverse for an Italian restaurant. Since it’s located on the East Side in a more local neighborhood, the atmosphere feels very authentic. I especially love the back area of the restaurant, it’s cozy, beautiful, and has a bit of a secret-garden vibe. The only drawback during my visit may have been situational. I ended my dinner a bit early because it was quite hot, which affected my appetite at the time. That said, the food itself was still excellent. I’ve recommended this place to several friends, and they all ended up loving it as well.
This place was so cute, reasonably priced and delicious. They don’t have a full liquor license so alcoholic beverages were limited to beer and wine. Nonetheless, we had a great bottle of white wine to accompany our meal. I would definitely stop by again.
Great food and house wine at a reasonable price. This Italian spot is our go-to when we can’t decide what to eat. The food is good at a reasonable price, so does the house wine. I always go for their truffle norcia pasta and husband always gets their special pizza. Consistency can be improved as sometimes my pasta is watery than other times. We used to love the fried calamari, but it’s been a little disappointing lately as the fried veggie outnumber the calamari Have 3-4 outdoor tables (small) so 🐶 friendly! Overall, a lovely place with reasonable price items
We stopped in on a rainy Monday afternoon. Early dinner before an opening. We were happy to find an establishment open so early on a Monday and serving dinner. Nice atmosphere, open kitchen with a large pizza oven. The staff were very friendly. The Caesar salad was good and we shared it amongst three of us. Two of us shared the sausage pappardelle which was very very good. I really enjoyed it. They noted it was all homemade, including the pasta, and it tasted like it. My plate was wiped clean. If in the area again this is a come again restaurant.
Highly recommend to ask for the seating in the back room, it was gorgeous. We reserved a table for 7 (can't select more), and they were happy to add another table to accommodate 2 more. The back room is beautiful, although the acoustic is not great. We had another group seated close by and it sounded like they were shouting. The food was also great, all the kids found something to eat, and enjoyed the desserts as well. The main downside: The service was not great. We waited a long time for our waiter, who didn't check if we needed anything after we ordered, and it was impossible to get his attention even when he came to a nearby table. Also waited for a long time to get the check, and then to pay it. If you are not in a rush, and have patience, I recommend it.
Tasty authentic Italian cuisine with some nice twists. We went for Saturday night (2 people) and made a reservation ahead of time. If you want to be seated inside, it is worth calling to make sure you get placed inside ahead of time. We ordered the Calamari & Zucchini to start which was excellent and enough for 4 people to share as a starter. Pasta dishes are great and the tiramisù was 10/10! The atmosphere was very loud and difficult to hear each other hence dropping a star for overall ambience. Nice bathrooms and quick service. We would return on a week night for a quiet meal.
