Per Se New York Reviews
Great experience for a dinner with a great view. The lady greet us and walk us to the chair and a lovely chat. They serve around 20 dish. Very extraordinary. I love the caviar and the steak dish. They also have wine pairing but we choose to have a glass of red wine. They recommend a very good one. And we ordered some more. We also realise that they serve the food in a stack of plates which adds the extravagant of the meal. However, I do notice that the utensil are very scratched. We started the meal at 16.30. And it lasted till 20.30. It took a while for the food to come. But since they have a lot of food for us, I think its a good call since we dont feel too full and we can finish the whole meal. Thank god we didn’t have anything plan for the rest of the night as we did not expect it to be a 4 hour meal. When we go out, they give us a nice pack of biscuits and a box of chocolate, along with the menu list signed by the chef. Overall its a very nice dining experience.
Amazing food! I came here with families and I feel I’m welcomed. The stuff are polite and thoughtful. They are down to earth and easy to have a conversation. My boyfriend and I celebrated our birthdays and received nice gifts. The dessert was amazing and the amount was generous. Great experience and I’d definitely recommend you to come here again to celebrate some important events of your life.
3 Michelin Star says it all. Food quality- A++ Prepared with the most exquisite attention to detail with all dishes offering the right balance of salty & sweet, creamy & crunchy and earthiness & wateriness. Service- A+++ Timing between our nine course tasting menu was perfection. The ordering of the tastings, the synchronization of the plates being simultaneously being placed down and picked up and the right amount of conversation with the maître d’. In fact, the maitre d’ has extremely the right touch to read the room and know who appreciate sophistication and who is feeling a bit overwhelmed requiring the need to bring some levity by removing the upscale ambience when needed. We observed his interaction with the other tables. Per Se must never let this maitre d’ go. Atmosphere- A+++ The view is outstanding. The lighting is at the right level allowing for the feel of personalization and comfort. While sitting at the window is beautiful, there is no bad seat in the house. Overall, this is for a very special occasion. The price tag is as rich as the food, but from my stance, well worth the food, service and overall experience.
This was a twenty year dream come true for me. I’ve been following per se since they opened in 2004 and finally made the visit on 3/3. We had the shorter tasting in the salon and honestly, so glad we did that and not the main dining room. The room was luxuriously comfortable. It felt elevated without being too pretentious. The service was warm, friendly, and professional. The food was excellent in presentation and preparation. We left feeling full and happy. They were even kind enough to let me keep a copy of the menus as a keepsake. I hope to return in the future. Truly memorable experience.
When you book at a Michelin 3 Star restaurant expectations are pretty high. Especially when you fly in special to New York for your wife’s milestone birthday. Could it be that good? The short answer is yes. Amazing view. I couldn’t believe our table overlooking Central Park. Wait staff. Totally matched our vibe. Attentive, funny and the right mix of leave me alone with a hint of answering questions and lightheartedness. Shoutout to Eric!!! The food. It’s all about the food, right? Upon the first bites in your mouth you wonder what you’ve been chewing your whole life. It certainly wasn’t this. I have the palette of a kindergartner and even I was blown away from the flavors, textures and sensations. To top it off a few special extras for my wife’s birthday. Worth the special trip. Couldn’t imagine having done anything else.
We have been to a few two and three star restaurants that did not live up to our expectations, but Per Se did. The food and service exceeded our expectations. When we first were seated at our table overlooking Columbus Circle, the hostess pointed to a small stool and said, "This is a rest for your purse." This small touch tells you about the attention level in the restaurant. Each course was perfectly timed and bursting with flavors. The sizes were perfect. By the end of the dinner we were full but not stuffed. And then came six or seven tiny desserts. At the end we got a bag with tasty morsels as mementos, as well as a menu of what we had signed by the chef. It was a memorable dinner.
My husband and I enjoyed the abbreviated tasting menu in the salon. Despite being a fraction of the price of the full tasting menu, every moment of the meal was extraordinary. The amount of attention and care we received from staff was incredible and the food was, of course, magnificent. This was perhaps the best dining experience I've ever had. This is a wonderful option for those who cannot afford the full menu but still want a bit of the 3-star experience.
The experience here can be described in one word - phenomenal. The staff explained all the dishes well and the waiter was absolutely wonderful. They also accommodated my allergy for one of the dishes as well. You will leave with a full stomach for sure. Their dessert course is absolutely amazing.
Just gratuitously good. Service was so warm and friendly and intuitive while being whip-sharp precise. The food was a fantastic blend of creative and traditional while being absolutely delicious all the way through. Reasonable portions, a glorious course structure, and frankly with the gratuity included and no supplements an altogether fair price for a 5+-star experience.
Per Se was an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The signature Oysters and Pearls truly sets the tone – an exquisite dish and perfect introduction to the meal. We opted for the lounge tasting menu. The duck foie gras was outstanding – rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented. By the time dessert arrived, we were blown away. The variety and creativity in the dessert course were remarkable, but the ice cream was the standout for me. Make sure to save room – the dessert selection is truly a feast on its own. Having dined at The French Laundry before, we were thrilled to find that Per Se brought forward many of the elements we loved from that experience in Napa. Thomas Keller’s attention to detail, exceptional flavors, and hospitality shine through at Per Se, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a world-class service and dining experience in New York.
We had an unforgettable time celebrating my father-in-law’s birthday at Per Se. Every course on the chef’s tasting menu was exceptional—especially the winter truffles, Wagyu beef, and the chocolate caramel dessert—each perfectly paired with their outstanding rosé, white, and red wines. We got the table with view of Central Park!
I experienced flavors that were new and profound. Honestly, spectacular all around from atmosphere, food, and service. The last few fine dining restaurants I went to were underwhelming and I almost didn’t want to go here because of poor recent experiences where price did not meet value. This was not the case with Per Se, it was worth every penny. The venue is located on the 4th floor and most seatings had an excellent view of Columbus square, which happened to snow during our dining experience giving us a beautiful albeit cloudy. Love the high ceilings , plants throughout, with a modern touch. The service was as you would expect from Michelin restaurants executed to perfection through the entire dining experience. But let’s get to the food, it is seasonal so you may not experience the same dishes I had but ALL dishes was excellent. I’d like to call out a few, the foie gras had a little sweetness and perfect texture, it was heaven for each bite. I had to slow myself down to savor the moment, a flavor I’ve never experienced. The oysters and pearl was indescribable, it was the perfect creamy concoction. And then the fine lamb, wow cooled to perfection, absolutely nothing you can change. Each bite was heaven. And finally the desert..I mean desserts was like a fireworks show to end your night. At the end I felt perfectly content, not too full and not starving. They even gave us a nice goodie bag to go for my birthday, which allowed me to enjoy more desserts at home :). I implore you to visit this place. Trust me, it’s worth it.
It's spectacular, it lived up to it's reputation. It's a seven course tasting menu, although if you count the number of desserts it's more like 11. We both had the wagyu supplement which we would highly recommend. We have done a number of Michelin three starred restaurants, some deliver and some disappoint. In New York Per Se and Le Bernadin are both extraordinary. We were really underwhelmed by Jean George.
Still the best service in fine dining in NYC hands down for similar price points. Attentive and efficient and you are well taken care of throughout. Food is consistently good and the wine selection is extensive.
A three star experience and service, without being too stuffy. The menu was like if you took Alinea, removed the gastronomy, and injected French. The oysters in pearls were the star for me. They were rich, creamy, and texturally interesting (but not on an off putting way). Every dish really "flowed" and everything was perfectly timed. The wine pairing was incredibly generous. I had to share some glasses with my table so I could remember the meal by the end of the night. The meal as a whole was much more filling than other pre fixe 3 stars (which I consider a positive). We aren't really squab fans, but we gave it a try, and they offered to substitute the dish when we all agreed we wouldn't eat it. But we declined because we were already filling up quickly. They offered reasonable accommodations to the menu to ensure everyone had the best experience possible. But above all, the service was stellar. Every member of the team was attentive, personable, knowledgeable, and very passionate about the place.
The dining experience was exceptional, with delicious food, upscale atmosphere, and friendly service were excellent. Reservations usually filled up weeks in advance. We got lucky when one spot opened up. Each course was made meticulously and the cocktail was excellent. The experience is worth the price, making it perfect for special occasions.
Honestly had expected more of the dishes to miss however only the pork dish was exceptionally underwhelming as it was completely one dimensional. On the opposite end was the Oysters and pearls the flavours were absolutely riveting. Service was sublime to be expected, over all would visit again and try the evolution menu instead.
My husband and I were in NY celebrating our honeymoon. The staff at Per Se made our night very special. They were lovely, attentive and chatted a lot with my husband. Our main waiter was particularly great. The food was faultless. My husband has been wanting to come here for years and the dishes lived up to expectations. The dining room and views are special. We would recommend this restaurant.
This was our first fine dining experience and all I can say is wow. This restaurant blew us away! Starting with the staff. The entire staff was exceptional, very friendly, very curtious, and made you feel like one of their family members. As we went for our anniversary every staff memeber we encountered wished us a happy anniversary and even included a speical "kisses" dessert. Hats off to Taylor our somollier as well. He was absolutely fantastic and a pleasure to talk with as well as having a very vast knowledge of the wines he is providing. Onto the food. These dishes were phenomenal, the Oyster and pearls a classic, and the small bites at the beginning lived up to their reputation. The reason I give the food 4 starts was becuase the Amish chicken we had and the cheese dish just didn't feel right, while they were fine and it was probably a "me" problem they just didn't do it for me. Other than those, the meal was perfect. The dessert. I'm putting dessert in it's own section as it was our absolute favorite part. This sampling done by the pastry chef was unbelievable. Expertly crafted with some of the most rich and enjoyable flavors I've ever experienced. The dessert alone is almost worth the price tag. The atmosphere. The setting was so tasteful and elegant. It allowed my wife and I to feel like we were the only two there while we were surrounded by a full dining room. The music selection ranged from Steely Dan to Sister Golden Hair by America. The dining room felt more like a friend's living room than a 3 michelin star dining room in the best way possible. Our seating was close enough to the kitchen to hear them call out an order in unison however you heard nothing else from them, which to us was a true testament to the professionalism that Per Se provides for its patrons. Per Se was worth every penny we spent on it. An unforgettable night made possible by every member of their team.
I can't rave about this experience enough. It was everything I want from fine dining. The dining room overlooks the corner of Central Park through a wall of windows. I was seated at 5, so I got to watch the city darken as I ate. The service was immaculate. You are catered to every second. The meal was delicious and filling. I was full before my second meat course and stuffed after dessert. My favorite course was the sunchoke salad and bread and butter. The desserts were the best I've ever had at a Michelin star restaurant, and there are so many of them! Finding the restaurant is tricky. You enter the Shops at Columbus Circle mall and go up to the fourth floor. Then you walk past all the other restaurants until you reach Per Se. There are a lot of supplemental options on the menu that incur an additional charge. I skipped all of them and never felt like I was getting a lesser experience. In total, dinner cost $467. I paid that at the time of booking so I didn't have to pay anything at the end of the meal. They gave me a nice copy of the menu and a tiny tin of cookies as I was leaving.
Out of all the Michelin-starred restaurants I’ve experienced, Per Se is by far my favorite (for now!). The food was actually yummy—not just beautiful or creative, but truly delicious. I went with the tasting menu, and it was the best decision I could have made. Every course was thoughtful and flavorful, and the entire experience felt special from start to finish. But the real surprise? Dessert! I thought I’d have to choose just one, but nope—they left everything on the table just for me. It felt like a dream. If you’re looking for fine dining that doesn’t just impress, but also satisfies, Per Se is a must.
I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday here with my family, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. My expectations were high, yet they were effortlessly exceeded by the impeccable cuisine, warm hospitality, flawless service, breathtaking views, and enchanting ambiance. The dessert course was a true masterpiece, and the evening was made even more memorable with a tour of the kitchen. Without a doubt, this was the most exceptional dining experience I have had in New York.
This is always an amazing experience! Don't come broke, but come hungry with high expectations. You went be disappointed! We could only secure lounge seating, but it's the same menu and service. The wine pairing had some hits and misses for us, but definitely an adventure and fun! The menu is very seasonal, but I've been several times now and never disappointed.
Now this is what I expect when dining at a 3 Michelin star restaurant. The food was AMAZING and the staff were very attentive to our needs. They do go a little crazy on the desserts but youre already super full by the time those come out. everything was so masterfully prepared and everything just felt relaxing.
This was an excellent experience. The service staff was phenomenal. They were very professional and friendly. They helped guide us through the menu and ensured our dietary restrictions were not a concern at all. The main dining room and 9 course tasting menu comes with a hefty price tag but it is worth it. The food is excellent and you will certainly leave full but not stuffed. This was one of the best meals we have had to date. Walking through a mall to get to a 3 Michelin Star restaurant is off putting but the view once you get there helps you forget all about that. I'm very happy we had the opportunity to eat in the main dining room and next time I am in New York I will do my best to get a reservation there again. Definitely add it to your must eat list when visiting NYC!
Dining at Per Se was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the moment we arrived, everything felt thoughtful, refined, and special. The food was absolutely incredible — a beautifully paced multi-course tasting menu (nine courses, I believe), with each dish more impressive than the last. Every bite was intentional, creative, and perfectly executed. The desserts, in particular, were spectacular and memorable, a flawless ending to an already unforgettable meal. What truly elevated the evening was the service. Nadine was an exceptional server — warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable without ever feeling formal or stiff. Taylor, our sommelier, guided us through the wine pairings with such expertise and enthusiasm, enhancing each course in a way that made the entire experience even more special. Per Se delivered not just an extraordinary meal, but an extraordinary experience. The food, the service, and the attention to detail made this an evening we will never forget. Worth every moment.
Thomas Keller's NYC gem lives up to the hype. The views over Columbus Circle are stunning, but the food commands your full attention. Impeccable French technique, luxurious ingredients, and that famous 'Coffee and Doughnuts' dessert... simply unforgettable. A truly special occasion destination
Impeccable service. Flavors of each dish were very masterfully put together. Delightful desserts selection. Ambience is cozy and not crowded. Venue does not feel over-commercialized like many other 3-Michelin-starred restaurants in NYC. Shoutout to Igor for providing amazing service and touring us around the kitchen and wine room! Our servers were attentive and friendly, they did not feel robotic as they explained each dish. Now to the most important part: nearly every single dish was amazing and thoughtfully crafted. Every flavor felt intentional, and we knew from every first bite what the chef was going for. For me, there wasn’t anything too overpowering and the ingredients all melded well together. Highlights were the “Oyster and Pearl” caviar starter, butter-poached lobster (best piece of lobster I ever had), freshly shaved truffle gnocchi, foie gras pastrami (super tasty with a great added crispy texture), and a very fun platter of desserts. Only one dish, the Hiramasa Tataki, was underwhelming. Not because it was not good, but because it was just lacking so much flavor compared to the other dishes. Perhaps it was a palate cleanser of sorts, but I think lightly seared sashimi alone shouldn’t stand alone as a whole course. The restaurant was also a bit too dark for me. Overall, I was very happy and full in the end. The private tour inside the kitchen and wine room was the cherry on top that ended our night in a very high note. The meal has a high price tag but was so worth-it. They did not “cheap out”! This is how I expect a 3-Michelin-star experience to be.
Per Se undoubtably lived up to its prestigious reputation. The menu, which changes daily, is a testament to the creativity and adaptability of the staff. It’s truly impressive how they manage such a varied and dynamic offering with finescale precision. As delightful as the food was, the highlight of my visit was the extraordinary service. Isiah, in particular, was remarkable. His charisma and genuine passion for his role greatly enhanced the entire experience. His attention to detail and enthusiasm were infectious, and he went above and beyond to accommodate my special requests. I also noticed the extra care they provided despite me being a solo diner! And as an added bonus, they offer a vegetarian prix fix menu that rotates seasonally, which I will absolutely be back for. I can’t recommend this restaurant more to any culinary enthusiasts, as there are clear and justifiable reasons behind this restaurant’s fame.
Reservations: easily made online with a deposit to hold. Email received a few days prior with reminders, location, etc. Service: from the moment we stepped into the space around the restaurant we were embraced by this kind, professional staff. We had bags with clothes we changed out of from the day and they took them quickly from us and ushered us to our table. A beautiful view overlooking Columbus Circle and the corner of Central Park. Each of the staff members who stopped at our table were lovely and warm. Our head waiter (not sure on the titles) Evan, was lovely. He answered all of our questions. Food: first course I could only describe as a 'warm hug' followed by many other unique dishes that were delicious. Not a wine person but the cocktail I had was deceptively strong and delicious. Dessert surprised me. As a sweets lover I was overwhelmed with all of the tiny dishes, each one better than the next. If you are a food appreciator it is clearly worth the visit.
An experience still entirely deserving of its reputation and prestige. Impeccable service, well crafted dishes and a perfectly complimentary wine pairing. Attention to detail is superb and the atmosphere feels cozy and relaxing. While the food is not necessarily groundbreaking, it is exceptionally good as a classic fine dining experience. Igor was an excellent server and he and all the rest of the staff made us feel welcome and appreciated. The tasting menu is well paced and varied enough, and we were especially impressed by the extremely generous dessert course.
Laid back but formal atmosphere. Food was superb! Service was also fantastic. Definitely the spot to hit up if you want to celebrate a special occasion. Had been itching to eat here for a couple years now and this meal more than scratched that! If you have the $ and are feeling adventurous, look no further as you will have a truly spectacular meal. You can truly recognize & appreciate the level of craftsmanship from Thomas Keller and his crew of chefs.
Lamb was out of the world, staff was kind and attentive. I’m the type of person who would prefer to use my hand instead of a napkin and eat a Costco hotdog while sitting on the furniture aisle, than having to mind my manners. It’s not my type of atmosphere but if that’s what you are into and you’re a big shot, definitely will be up your alley.
Went back to Per Se after seven years, and it’s incredible how consistent the experience remains. The iconic oyster and caviar dish is still on the menu — timeless, luxurious, and executed to perfection. Every detail feels choreographed, from the delicate plating to the quietly attentive service. Per Se still offers that calm, almost meditative view over Central Park, and the pacing of the meal lets you savor every course. Per Se continues to define what fine dining in New York truly means — refined, thoughtful, and utterly unforgettable.
The love of my life treated me to the most incredible birthday dinner at this Michelin starred restaurant, and it was truly unforgettable. The service was impeccable, every dish was beautifully crafted, and the atmosphere felt so elegant and sophisticated. It was such a special experience, loved it, we are definitely coming back ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finally made it to Per Se and it was everything we hoped for. Oysters and pearls is one of the best dishes I have ever had and it's evident why it's become the headliner of the TK universe. Not everything was a hit but there were no misses and everything overall was delicious, specifically the foie gras pastrami (a must supplement), the quail, and the veal- especially the tempura bone marrow element. The only bummer of the night was that the pasta dish with an exorbitant amount of truffles wasn't available that night The setting is as beautiful as you'll find anywhere in the city. Service was flawless from start to finish- personable and playful throughout the night. Name dropping Bennie specifically. Taylor, our som for the evening, was delightful and a treat to talk to and learn about the wine selections. Per Se is what it is, a French restaurant that executes perfect technique and delivers beautifully plated dishes that are balanced and delicious. Well worth all of its accolades.
TK is my favorite chef and I have been to every one of his restaurants! This one was the last on my list and I just loved it. We did the salon 4 course tasting, and it was perfect. We had an amazing view of the city, and I highly recommend adding black truffles if available (prefer truffles upgrade over wagyu upgrade both here & French Laundry) and the oysters & pearls. The wine pairing was the best I’ve had yet and the dessert blew my mind!! Just love the detail, taste and beauty of everything Thomas Keller! Amazing experience, must do if you’re an ultimate foodie.
Dining at Per Se is a beautifully orchestrated experience that delights every sense. From the moment you step into the serene, understated space overlooking Columbus Circle, you know you’re about to experience something special. The attention to detail in both service and presentation is impeccable. Each course is a masterclass in balance, flavor, and creativity. The tasting menu flows like a symphony, with each course offering something new yet cohesive. Standouts included the signature “Oysters and Pearls,” a dish that’s both indulgent and comforting, and a duck course that was pure artistry. Even the bread and butter felt elevated. Service was warm, intuitive, and incredibly knowledgeable. Yes, Per Se is a splurge, but it’s worth every cent for anyone who appreciates culinary excellence at its finest. A true NYC icon that lives up to its legendary reputation. I left feeling inspired, satisfied, and already dreaming of my next visit.
My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of enjoying Valentine’s Day (and also a sort of one-month-early anniversary celebration) here this past weekend. What an absolutely fantastic experience. It wasn’t just the food that stood out—although it was truly mind-blowingly exquisite—but also the incredible, world-class service. Everyone was so kind, so patient with us, and so delightfully enthusiastic when explaining each dish. Most of all, they made us feel genuinely special, treating us like dear friends rather than just guests. Last night is a memory my girlfriend and I will never forget, and we can’t wait to dine with you all again.
I recently hosted an executive dinner at Per Se for 28 guests, and it was truly an unforgettable evening. The events team was amazing from start to finish. They helped me plan every detail and were so accommodating, even pulling off last-minute name plates without a hitch. The private dining room was absolutely beautiful and set the perfect tone for the night. The service was exceptional. Everyone on the team was kind, attentive, and made our guests feel incredibly well cared for. Now the food… just WOW! Every dish was impressive, but the Atlantic black bass stole the show. It was the kind of meal people are still talking about days later. One thing that really stood out was the spirit-free pairing option. I’ve tried a few at Michelin-starred spots, but this one was by far the best. It was thoughtfully curated, creative, and genuinely elevated the experience. Per Se’s three Michelin stars are more than well deserved. This place delivers on every level. I can’t thank the team enough for helping me pull off such a special night.
I’ve been to countless high end restaurants including other Michelin three stars. Per se certainly meant every expectation we had. The one thing that really stood out was not the actual food but the service. The presentation and amount of dessert given really solidified the 5 star rating. Absolutely must experience atleast once in your life. COME HUNGRY BECAUSE YOU WILL BE SO FULL AFTER!
My wife and I celebrated our 18th year wedding anniversary here and the place did not disappoint. The tasting menu was fantastic and the service was impeccable! We had the East Private Room all to ourselves and they treated us like royalty. The tasting menu changes regularly with a vegetarian tasting option—so be aware of that and plan accordingly. The wine options are exquisite with the ability to purchase by the glass or half bottles. In addition, they offer cocktails.
Planned a boys trip specifically to have dinner at Per SE. I was not prepared for the service nor the quality of food I was going to experience. Our server was great she was friendly and very knowledgeable with the plates. Each plate was just amazing as the next. You have an option vegetarian or meat menu. Also there is a dress code is no short sleeve shirts. You don't have to wear a jacket just as long as you have long sleeves. They do offer jackets for the men with short sleeves. Looking forward to my next visit.
Per Se deserves all the fame it has. first time i came w a friend, second time was dining in the private area. i love everything abt this place, decent atmosphere, good service, food def reached the level of a 3 starred michelin. everyone is so polite, the attendants here are rly trying their best to fulfill my requests, amazing.
An absolutely magical evening at Per Se, thanks to our incredible attendant Jamie! My friend and I had a truly exceptional dining experience at Per Se. The service was above and beyond; our main attendant, Jamie, was so charming and thoughtful throughout the entire evening. It felt like we had a personal tour guide through our meal, which made the experience even more special, especially for my friend who was visiting for the first time. We both have a lot of dietary restrictions, and dining out can often be a challenge. However, the chefs and staff at Per Se navigated all of our needs with such incredible ease and grace. It was so appreciated to feel completely cared for and to be able to enjoy every single course without a worry. The biggest surprise came at the end of the night when they presented my friend Shannon with an engraved bottle of champagne and chocolates for her 40th birthday. It was such a beautiful, unexpected, and generous gesture that made an already perfect evening truly unforgettable. Thank you again, Jamie and the entire team at Per Se, for a spectacular experience. We can't wait to come back!
Per Se’s three Michelin star standing is without a doubt justified by the exceptional quality of both its cuisine and service. The food overall was exceptional. Many of the signature dishes, such as the "Oyster & Pearl" and "The Egg," were masterful, as were the amuse bouche and other appetizers. The textures, the combination of flavors and how intense they were, everything at this point was impeccable. And of course the famous dessert spread was an amazing treat that deserves all its accolades. Many fine dining restaurants have stunning and wonderful desserts that end the night on a high note, but few deliver it in such excess that you can continue to enjoy it the next day. And the assortment of bon bons, I’m typically not the biggest fan but the ones here can only be described as the best dessert/sweets I had all year long and nothing will change my mind on that. It is with the dessert course that Per Se has become the most memorable dining experience I had in 2025. My only feedback concerns the main courses. Of these, the quail stood out the most as the most complete composition. While the venison, lobster, and halibut (presented in that descending order of preference) were of high quality, each lacked a degree of refinement, specifically in either texture or depth of flavor. I understand that Per Se has a reputation for being the pinnacle of classic fine dining (not to say these dishes weren’t delightful), but I have encountered more memorable or fully realized executions of these classic preparations at other establishments. They do not immediately stand out when reflecting on comparable dishes experienced this year. Unfortunately, the only dish I would think of first when asked about "Quail" is the one at Per Se. As for the service, it was a great night, though it felt slightly impersonal at times (not an issue, as I personally care more about the food). However, towards the end, many of the staff made me feel special and welcomed me with a beautiful little cake to celebrate my birthday, the invitation to visit the kitchen to see where the magic happens, and a signed menu of the dishes that night. There were many others celebrating a special event or milestone that night, but I still felt important and valued, which is greatly appreciated. In short, I will be doing everything I can to bring the ones I care about to Per Se so they can share the food and experience I had. But Per Se is not without its minor weaknesses. .
Dining at Per Se was an unmatchable experience—one of those nights that reminds you why great restaurants matter. My wife and I went for dinner and enjoyed two incredible bottles of wine, a Barolo and a St. Georges Nuits, both perfectly paired with the flow of the tasting menu. What really sets Per Se apart is how every single element on the plate has its own voice. Each bite delivers a completely unique taste identity—nothing blends into the background, nothing feels repeated. It’s precision, creativity, and balance at the highest level. Yes, it’s a splurge, but this was time and money exceptionally well spent. Between the service, the atmosphere, the wines, and those unforgettable flavors, Per Se delivers an evening you’ll carry with you for a long time.
Phenomenal experience dining at Per Se. While it is a tasting menu, there were options to accommodate to our preferences and desires. My husband and I are not fans of tasting menus as a whole, but I have to stay every dish was out of this world. The highlight of our experience were the staff. While extremely professional and adhered to the highest quality of serving standards, they adapted to our style of conversation and pace of eating. They were engaging and made our night that much better!
What an incredible evening at Per Se. Last year my partner and I were celebrating our anniversary here and it was truly meaningful. Each dish was a masterpiece, the staff were exceptionally gracious, and the behind-the-scenes kitchen tour added an extra layer of wonder to the night. Absolute perfection. Thank you to everyone for making it so special — we can’t wait to visit again :)
This is my first time at Per Se so I don't have any prior experience to compare to. I was wavering a bit on whether to go or not based on some recent reviews, but decided to go and am very glad I did. Everything about the night was perfect. Service was truly impeccable from beginning to end. Food was excellent with a nice mix of flavors and portions were generous. Yes, it is expensive, but at the end of the night, I felt it was absolutely worth it.
We celebrated a birthday at Per Se two years ago and absolutely loved the experience. For some reason, I never wrote a review until now — but it truly deserves one. The techniques were impressive, and the ingredients were of the highest quality. The finale with the dessert table was unforgettable! That said, the restaurant itself could use a renovation — the carpets and overall décor feel a bit outdated and don’t quite match the level of a modern fine dining restaurant. Still, the food remains absolutely fantastic. Thank you to the team for such a memorable evening! Highly recommend.
Every dish was spot on. They are accurate and precise. The caviar echos with other ingredients in its dish, instead of a hard add-on that says “okay, now you have your caviar”. The dishes are very classy, and these dishes become common in other Michelin restaurants, but per se’s twists still stand out. The two meat dishes were simple but so delicious, for the first time after visiting tens of Michelins I feel the meat courses are not just positional but nicely executed and impressive. The grand finale of desserts is a bit too much. The interior of the restaurant could use some updates, as they have been Michelin three stars for decades. The new year ring was very much fun and nice. Memories were made.
I went alone for my birthday bc Im far from home and my flight was delayed so ai decided to visit this place and I really love it. They made me feel like I was with my family. Thanks you all the staff!!! Host, runners, backwaiters servers sommeliers and security staff. All were so nice. The food was superb too. I can’t decide which was more satisfying. I hope I can come back with my family.
I wanted to personally thank everyone at Per Se for our amazing experience last night celebrating our anniversary. The depth of knowledge of the sommelier and server to the attentiveness of all of the team, to the incredible food and truly customized wine pairings were extraordinary. Happy to have had that experience!
We have been to French Laundry and had an opportunity to go to the Per Se cafe and loved it. It was a smaller pre fix menu and to be honest it was the right amount. There some familiar items such as oysters and pearls and ending with amazing desserts. The service was excellent and whole experience was fantastic. Highly recommend
I feel truly honoured to have had the pleasure of dining at this fine establishment. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with hospitality and were sat immediately (no wait at the door). Every little detail of this place was special. The delicious food, the impeccable wine pairings and world-class service makes this place an absolute stand out. I have been fortunate enough to dine at many Michelin star restaurants all over the world, but this place will always have a special place in my heart. It truly does deserve its 3 Michelin star rating! We left happily full from our meal, and they even packaged our dessert course for us to enjoy later at home. Thank you so much for the incredible experience and for making myself and my guest feel so welcomed. 10/10 highly recommend.
An unforgettable dining experience at Per Se, and one that truly lives up to every one of its three Michelin stars. From the moment you step into the main dining room, you’re immersed in elegance, a beautiful, serene setting overlooking the park, elevated further by the warm glow of the fireplace that creates an inviting and refined ambiance. The tasting menu offered both vegetarian and meat/fish options. I chose the vegetarian menu, and it was hands down the most delicious tasting menu I’ve had in a long time. Every dish was thoughtful, balanced, and impeccably executed. The mushroom pie was absolutely out of this world- a luxurious blend of exotic mushrooms, seared to perfection, rich yet incredibly refined. The Doppio Agnolotti with butternut squash emulsion and chestnut confit was a standout as well, a flawless combination of sweetness, depth, and texture. The meat menu was equally impressive. The perfectly seared Mediterranean Lubina and the delicately cooked farmed venison showcased remarkable technique and flavor, leaving nothing to be desired. Service elevated the experience even further. Samantha, our server, was exceptional- warm, attentive, and impressively knowledgeable about every dish, making the meal feel both personal and seamless. Per Se is truly worthy of each and every star. A flawless culinary journey from start to finish, and an experience I will remember for a long time to come.
Background Per Se is synonymous with a rigorously precise, French inspired tasting menu experience. Even its shorter menus are designed to reflect the full philosophy of the kitchen rather than serve as a compromise. Ambience The dining room is dimly lit and serene. While we were not seated in the main dining hall, our table faced the New York skyline, which added a cinematic calm to the evening. The space felt formal yet not stiff, elegant without intimidation. Service Service was impeccable and precise. Staff were attentive without hovering and thoughtful without excess. The presence of a vegetarian menu executed with equal seriousness deserves special praise. Food and drink The four course menu was skilfully crafted and coherent from start to finish. Each plate showed restraint and clarity. The true revelation was the dessert course. It was a masterpiece of balance and whimsy, arguably the most compelling and memorable sequence of the meal. It is one of the best if not the best dessert. Kudos Overall Per Se proves that greatness is not dependent on length or spectacle. Even a shorter menu delivers depth, confidence and emotional payoff.
Per Se impressed me, I ordered the Evolution Menu which came with 19 courses. I found the range of tastes, flavoures throughout the dining experience to be considerate, with culinary ideas on the bolder side. The service was exceptional also, and the location if you can get a window seat overlooking Colombus Circle is very enjoyable also.
As a flagship 3-star establishment, Per Se sets the global industry standard for culinary and service excellence. I brought my family here for a special occasion, and it was a flawless experience. Absolutely worth the price for a life event. The Expert Perspective: My mother was a restaurateur in China, and even as a non-expert in French cuisine, she was shocked by the service execution. She noted that the team’s proactive attention to detail and synchronization are incredibly difficult to train—it is near flawless and justifies the prestige. The Food: While the standard tasting menu is excellent, the culinary technicality is world-class. The flavors and presentation perfectly reflect the level of precision expected of Chef Keller. I’ve met people at luxury hotels worldwide who still talk about their proposals or milestone meals here; it’s a place for core memories. I hope to return in the near future for the "Retrospective" menu, which features the all-star signature dishes that defined the restaurant over the last 20 years.
Per Se? Directly in from of Central Park? A horse ride after dinner? We love Per Se ! ! Delicious, classy, elegant & romance by the fireplace. Excellent food. Excellent service. Beautiful ambiance & location. We had the tasters menu & what a delight it was! Per Se is well deserving of its 3 star Michelin rating! Could Per Se be a candidate or reason a new 4 Star system is created?Orrrr, was that the reason for Michelin removing 1 star from Per Se's neighbor? Masa... Hmmmmm. We shall find out! We highly recommend Per Se!
I can't imagine a much more opulent and elegant way to welcome the New Year. It is said, that you should welcome the new year in the way you would like your Year to be. Cheers to being off to a magnificent start! We also decided to do the recommended wine pairing which was a fantastic choice! Each dish was artfully created. Admittedly, one of my favorite aspects was the very thoughtfully curated gift bag we were sent home with. What a treat to enjoy on New Year's Day! The gift that keeps giving!
It was a wonderful meal! Service was amazing and friendly, the food was so good. They've still got some Per Se classics and honestly, they don't feel aged at all. The staff are all ready to talk, but also know when to walk away. The bourbon milk punch was so good, as well! This place is generally out of my budget, but if I were to dine for a special occasion again, I would definitely come back. I took the worst photos in the world, unfortunately.
We pass Per Se weekly and finally decided to try it out. We had dinner their last night (Friday) with the family (children included). It's really clean and has a real nice aesthetic. The food was delicious, the customer service was great, and the music was a vibe. Shoutout to Kamea
Very expensive, but worth it. You get what you pay for and this was world class sashimi. It was good to go after the tourists left, so it was quiet. The service was also outstanding.

The food and environment is pretty good, you can see the Central Park view from the window, but the service doesn’t feel like a 3 star place🙃. They forgot to ask us if we would like wine paring and just started sending food to the table. We had to ask them for the pairing after our first dish was almost done. The waiter took away our drinks before we finish them. And one the final wine list menu they gave us, they got the wine name wrong. I was not sure if that tip was included, and asked the waiter about the additional tip on the check, and the answer was really confusing. I ended up giving extra 20% tip and learned that it’s not necessary.
I booked Per Se, and then my flight and hotel. It was a fine dining experience. For a Michelin 3-Star restaurant, the food was very good but not exceptional. The only dish that impressed me the most was the green circle Amish chicken – very original, creative, and flavorful. The variety of desserts was unexpected – they were wonderful! In addition to the 9-course meal of $390 pp, they offered other dishes ranging from $40 to $130. The staff was attentive and friendly. We were lucky Chef Thomas Keller was on site. He came out to greet the guests, and we took a picture with him.
This place is so hard to review. Obviously the cooking is at a world-class standard, but aside from a couple of dishes like the classic oyster and pearls and the quail. Nothing really blows you away. The eight or nine different desserts is a nice touch at the end and there’s some real crackers in there the thing that’s most surprising about this place. Is that the atmosphere the decor feels like a Hilton lobby. Which when you’re paying $400 a plate feels very underwhelming, I’ve definitely had better. Michelin star Dan experiences and I would not say this is a must do.
The oysters and pearls is an incredible dish, so was the scallop, but the meat dish, the lamb, was just awful, the meat and fat kind of combined into a pate like thing that had a real rubbery thing going. The big problem with the tasting menu is while it gives choices the choices frequently involved enormous additional supplements ($140 for black truffles on the pasta?) so you were kind of stuck. The desserts were excellent. The bread was very disappointing. That being said the atmosphere was wonderful (the renovations have brought a huge improvement), and the service was perfect. Check the menu carefully though before you go.
The service was absolutely incredible, and the care that the staff took with us was very memorable. I have to say though, the food and wine pairings, while delightful, weren’t exactly the level I was expecting for a TK restaurant. It was a nice experience, but I don’t feel particularly compelled to return.
Overall a great experience. Service and ambiance are what to expect for restaurants of this caliber. Somehow I was expecting a bit more for the cuisine per se. It lacks a little bit of magic and harmony compared to other fine dining places I’ve been to in NYC. Not a total lack of, of course, but I was hoping an even higher level of excellence. Many dishes, while good, can leave some room to be nitpicked. For instance, I find the smell of the oyster in the highly famed “oyster and pearls” a bit too salient and slightly incompatible with the rest of the dish. Dress code has been relaxed. While some patrons dress nicely, some dress in a fairly casual way. I would prefer they maintain a higher standard in this regard. To end in a good point, I like the way they price. Service and soft drinks seem to be included. And the coffee is good even for a fine dining restaurant. Overall definitely worth a visit at least once for a foodie. I’m just unsure how frequent I might visit, if I would dine here again.
The signature dishes were great. Dessert spread was flawless. Mocktails were spectacular. Service paid attention to little details. But many of the savory dishes felt closer to the one rather than three star level. Also, like much of old-school French cuisine, the food felt like they couldn’t stand on their own and needed acidity from wine. All in all, it’s hard to recommend Per Se based on the food alone, but I can recommend it for special occasions where you need the service to be just right. First, the great stuff. The butter-poached lobster was excellent, full of natural sweetness and a snappy texture that bordered cooked *and* raw, as intended. The mocktails had as much depth and complexity as very fine wines. Per Se’s dessert is the stuff of legends. I got a poached pear with really high-quality honey that felt like a spring flower field, a banana sherbet that tasted like the best banana pudding ever, and a Louis XV that’s not novel but felt the most restrained and balanced of the versions I’ve had. The bonbons had the intense flavor explosions that were missing during the savory portions. The bad parts. Savory courses were in general slightly oversalted, which were tiny issues individually but felt like too much salt in a long tasting menu. The short rib and poularde felt gloopy rather than luxurious, with the poularde tasting quite ordinary by today’s standards. The Moses Sleeper carrot cake was disgusting (the bite with the pickle was the worst). I finished it out of politeness. I think Melissa Clark was spot on. It’s eerie how much her description mimicked my experience. The restaurant group needs to take her criticisms seriously to grow and improve; yet the reaction was to decry her as anti-fun. Ultimately, food lovers want to experience the fun and joy of eating. We don’t care if there are ten components on the plate. That’s just fussy. TFL and Per Se should not be a fixed collection of recipes, but rather an expression of a philosophy. What would make Per Se a five star experience for me? Make gold out of “less desirable” / tougher animal parts outside of short rib. More sense of place and not just ingredient sourcing—that banana sherbet felt super NYC. And, most importantly, bring back the whimsy and American roots. What happened to doing fun fine dining takes on familiar American food and flavors? I’m sure folks can come up with more ideas like the “Ritz cracker”, oysters and pearls, salmon cornet, and truffle mac and cheese. TFL was one of my favorite dining experiences mostly because of the service. And here at Per Se, service was strong yet again. I made a bunch of requests in advance, stressing that I don’t want to be too much of a pain as long as dietary restrictions were met. They fulfilled every single request. There’s even a change on the printed menu that I view as an in-joke—makes me chuckle when I see it. I have full trust in the service team. Per Se’s service is less bubbly but that somehow makes it more New York (California’s a whole lot more sunny!).
Beautiful location with an incredible view over Central Park—definitely one of the most elegant dining rooms in NYC. Service was flawless and the setting felt special from the moment we arrived. That said, the food didn’t quite live up to the hype. It was good, but for a 3 Michelin star restaurant, I expected to be wowed. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out as exceptional either. Overall, a nice experience, but fell short of what you'd hope for at this level.
Our expectations of Per Se, the renowned three-Michelin-starred establishment, were understandably on the high side. Opting for the classic chef's menu, the food was, without a question, spectacular. Each dish was a testament to precision, creativity, and fresh ingredients, artfully presented and bursting with flavour. The restaurant also has a fantastic view of the iconic Central Park and the glittering New York skyline, which provides a breathtaking backdrop to an already extraordinary meal. The restaurant's policy of including service is commendable and suggests to me a commitment to staff welfare. Indeed, the overall service was fantastic, with a team of attentive professionals ensuring a seamless experience. The dessert course was a surprising and a welcomed highlight, so elaborate and delightful that it could easily rival a top-tier high tea service. However, the reason for the non-five-star service rating and a point of slight confusion is regarding our specific server. While the service we received for most of the evening from a gentleman named Cristian (or Christian) was exceptional – attentive, engaging, and delivered with a genuine smile – he was not the server whose name appeared on our receipt. The individual named on the receipt had notably limited interaction with our table, almost feeling like he had delegated our service to Cristian and the interactions with us were for a check-box. This was exemplified at the end of our meal when he briefly appeared to check on the signed receipt before immediately turning his attention to assist another table with their departure by moving the table to make it easier to get out and escorting them to the exit, which is not the same service we received from this gentleman. While this didn't detract from the phenomenal food or the rest of the Per Se team and Cristian's outstanding care, it did create a slight disconnect. For the level of service Cristian provided, an optional gratuity felt entirely warranted. Had our experience been solely based on the interactions with the server named on the receipt, it would barely warrant a 3 out of 5. Note: This dip in service is also the reason for the overall rating of 4 out of 5 instead of 5 out of 5.
Came here for their under 30 lunch and it was great! The service was amazing our waitergave us great recommendations on wines and check on us very frequently. The food was great but some dishes are a little too salty and the dessert was extremely sweet. My favorite dish was the chicken one - I don't think I've had chicken this tender and good ever!
Overall, the savory food here isn't on the level of other places in the same tier. Going through the courses one by one: Amuse bouche: Decent. Cesar had a very similar cigarette-like thing with pureed smoked salmon (iirc) that tasted even better though. 2. Oysters and pearls: Delicious. Glad I got the chance to try this out. 3. Beet salad, cornbread and butter: Honestly the salad itself was like rabbit food; very little of it and it was bland. I’ve had better salads at family restaurants. The bread and butter was delicious but I would have really liked it if they kept it coming throughout the meal like at Le Bernardin! 4. Scallop sashimi with sweet corn sauce: The corn sauce didn’t really go well with the scallop and it was way too sweet. Not a good flavor match. 5. Mashed potatoes, halibut and mushrooms: This was delicious. Only complaint was that they didn’t give us enough! 6. Corn pasta: Maybe the best pasta dish I’ve eaten period. Really blew my mind and made me glad we’re pescatarian since they switched out whatever other dish they had. 7. Lobster with rice: The lobster was surprisingly tough; it could have been cooked a little less, or at a slightly lower temperature. The rice itself was kind of bland. I get they were going for a red pepper taste but it was mild and didn’t really match the lobster at all. Weird dish. Not a good way to end the salty dishes. 8. Palate cleanser: I liked the cheese a lot but the raw celery with a few things on top of it was super weird. Again made me feel like I was eating rabbit food. 9. Dessert: They really pamper you with dessert here. Nothing alone is on the level of a proper rich dessert course (like the chocolate tart at Le Bernardin or the ice cream dishes they give you at Atomix) but all together it goes pretty well. The ice cream was decent, though honestly I could make something better at home. Apple crumble cake was a little dry but it goes well if you eat it with the ice cream. Chocolate tart was delicious. The chocolate pudding that looked like cappuccino goes really well with the donuts, which are perfectly cooked. The little chocolate bites they offer you is probably the best bite of chocolate I’ve ever had period (I got calamansi which blew me away). 10 Treats: They give you a whole chocolate bar for your birthday and the bar itself is maybe the best bar of chocolate I’ve ever tasted and I’ve gotten bars from places like Switzerland. The cookies in the tins were delicious too but it doesn’t seem like you can buy them anywhere unfortunately.
For a three star michelin restaurant I was overall satisfied but not completely blown away. This was our first restaurant of this caliber so expectations were high. The servers brought different energy to the table, where the main server brought mixed energy through his conversation. The service was clearly scripted and followed to a T. At times it felt like an orchestra and it was awesome to see plates being placed just so. I appreciated that the menu clearly stated that the tip was included in the service so I felt no need to tip extra. The amuse-bouche was confusing. The first one I tried was the salmon cone which they are known for and it was SPECTACULAR. The second one I tried was the korean sweet potato and that felt so out of place being that this is a french restaurant. The third was the oddest, it reminded me of a hotdog but congealed and there was a bit of gristle that I found which was not pleasant. Dare I say spam like. Being that this was not on the menu I am not certain I can really judge them off of this. I opted for the upcharge for the appetizer and I thought it was just ok. It was an everything bagel which I thought was subtle and the cone amuse was much better. The lobster was amazing I never had lobster cooked that way and to that temperature, truly a masterpiece. The bread was pumpernickel which some may find not pleasant but I really appreciated the work that went into making the dough because it was checkered. The butter tasted just fine, I really enjoy french butter so I was left wanting something more from the animal farm butter. The beef short rib was to die for, I would gladly come back for this. The crispy edges, the tender middle, the FLAVOR. Spectacular. The hassleback potato was really flavorful and tender. There was a liver component on top and it really tied the whole dish together. The desserts were just ok. I have had to die for sticky toffee pudding and what was given was just not it. It was however beautifully presented. The gingerbread ice cream was delightful. I love ginger and I loved this. The zebra cake had fresh mint and didn't taste that good. Now, they came around and gave extra dessert which I found delightful. We were given these amazing donuts that I thought tasted like funnel cake and I LOVE funnel cake, this faux cappucino that was ice cream, the creme brulee macron topping was great but the flavor was just plain tasting. Then they brought us MORE dessert, we were given each bon bon which we found the best flavors were PB&J, Passion Fruit and Walnut. As we left we were given a copy of the menu which was cute and we were given these sandwich cookies that had this delicious shortbread with amazing chocolate ganache between them. I had high expectations for 3 stars and Per Se met most of them. We dined in the Salon Lounge and paid $150 deposit for our reservation. Understanding that this was a limited menu, we would love to experience the main dining room's menu, however, I really enjoyed the Salon Lounge atmosphere, decor, and furniture. I only peeked in the main dining hall so perhaps it is even better. We are excited to try Thomas Keller's restaurant in Yountville, The French Laundry with even higher expectations.
Per Se is an all around experience. We celebrated our engagement here and it was truly an unforgettable all around evening. Per Se has been a bucket list item for me for over a decade. The experience did not disappoint - the food, I will say, not every dish was amazing. It is my first 3 star experience so I don’t have a good comparison, but at the price point I expect EVERY dish to blow me away. They also had the largest wine list I have ever seen, they give you a whole iPad to look through! The meal started off so strong with the classic oysters and pearls dish. Seriously this set the bar so high and left me feeling like I will never be the same after this meal lol. It’s been several months since we dined here and looking through my photos, the rest was fairly forgettable. I will note that every dish is truly a work of art, and some were prepped in a way that you couldn’t even imagine food being prepped that way. But again, nothing blew us away in terms of taste. The main meat dishes were nothing special. The dessert was plentiful and very “classic”. Nothing out of the box or super imaginative. We were actually so full by dessert we had a few of them boxed for us to take home. The service is top tier. The staff really made us feel special and everyone was congratulating us on our engagement and it felt truly genuine. The interior and overall vibe feel classic. I read a review it feels dated but it feels so classic NY to me. Overall, it was a special night and a bucket list item crossed off the list. Unforgettable experience for sure but our expectations were set so high that not every dish hit the mark. Thank you to the team at Per Se for a memorable evening!
A memorable meal with family before Christmas. We celebrated my mom's 70th birthday while dining as well. This was our second visit to Per Se and it was consistent with my first visit. While I wasn't blown away this time, the dishes were executed with high degree of skill and technique. This visit just felt average in terms of the menu making an impression. For the price tag I feel like there needs to be a bigger wow factor. The service is impeccable though! I would definitely recommend dining here for a splurge and a special treat.

Having only been to a 1 star Michelin restaurant before that offered a beyond amazing experience, I had high hopes for getting a reservation at this 3 star Michelin restaurant. While nothing was bad about our experience, there was nothing that made it feel exceptionally worth the cost. The dishes were good but a few didn’t have any distinct flavor that made you go wow this is incredible. The service was nice but since my husband and I don’t drink or didn’t upgrade to any supplements (add ons) we maybe weren’t as important? I could hear/see some vibrant interactions from some of the other tables that made me think/feel this. The oysters and pearls dish was by far the best dish of the night and the pistachio dessert was both of our favorite! It was a nice experience but I don’t think the value was there for the cost unfortunately. We dined at a 1 star Michelin restaurant in Toronto for half the cost and it was truly a more impressive experience.
We came to Per Se with high expectations because of its reputation and three Michelin stars! The experience was not terrible, but it also didn’t live up to what I thought it would be and really don't understand how they have three of these stars when not one plate stood out to us that was amazing. I have been to many one Michelin star restaurants that were soooo much better! Arrival The night started off on the wrong foot with the jacket requirement. The website said jackets were “highly recommended” and not mandatory at all, but I wasn’t allowed in without one. Their website also says nothing about required long sleeve either. I had to wear a loaner jacket that was too big, baggy and uncomfortable even though I was in a very nice short sleeve button up shirt. The jacket got in the way while eating, and the sleeves ended up getting messy. I was already dressed in slacks and a button-up, so this felt unnecessary and frustrating. It also didn't make the food taste any better. Food The food was the biggest disappointment. Several dishes were overcooked (sea bass and quail) and many needed more seasoning or better balance as they were just ehh. The plates looked nice but didn’t really stand out at all. Most of us at the table didn’t finish everything, not because we were full, but because the flavors just weren’t there and they never asked us how we liked the plates, just if we were done so they could clear them all together. That being said I will say everything felt fresh and high quality, just lacked flavor and seasoning and texture as well. Dessert was similar. There were a lot of options which was nice and they looked good, but most of them were missing something. Often one flavor overpowered the rest, so they weren’t enjoyable to finish even though we could have. Service The service was fine overall, though not very personal, they were attentive and gave us plates and cleared plates all at once which I guess was nice. The highlight of the night was Christian, who wasn’t even our main waiter, but he was the most helpful and welcoming person we interacted with. The dining room is nice, and the view is great, but there are plenty of other places in the city where you can get that view and better food as well. It was also very nice of them to have showed us the kitchen while leaving the the little desserts and cookies to go as well. It's a nice touch with all the advertised items and the to go short read cookies were actually really good, so that was a plus. But didn't find that out till the next morning. Overall I’ve been to many Michelin-starred restaurants and expected more from one that holds three stars by Thomas Keller. Per Se wasn’t a bad experience, but it wasn’t memorable either. It didn’t feel worth the extremely high cost or the level of praise it often gets. We could have been to 3-5 one-Michelin star restaurants with much more enjoyable food. Because of this visit, I’ve taken The French Laundry off my list, since I don’t think I’d want to repeat the same kind of experience with the large price tag they charge.
First things first, all staff was a delight to interact with. personable , kind, energetic, genuinely wanted to chat about you , your group, , your day and your dining experience, and it wasn't fab…
The food was well made, tasty, fresh and in season. Mostly friendly service. Beautiful table and ambiance. \nI would have given 4.5 , howevera dirty and crusty fork ruined the experience.

This reservation was long waited for, and boy, what a disappointment. From our entrance to the restaurant it felt like flop, and it was a very expensive flop. We were greeted by a young woman who insisted on asking us tedious questions. We wanted to look around, absorb the atmosphere, but she was persistent. In hindsight, there was no atmosphere to absorb, the place looked like a wedding venue from the nineties, carpets, outdated lighting and table cloths that really needed some serious ironing. We came to dinner at 9 PM, the second seating and it seems like the staff wanted to close up quickly and leave. At some point in the middle of dinner the fire was put out and the dishes kept arriving one by one very quickly, barely giving us time to digest. When dinner was over the place felt deserted and no one even remembered our coats where there. About the food: A. We gave a list of dietary preferences a very long time in advance, but they were not prepared and it felt like they were whipping up something to accommodate, rather than prepare. B. For me (the unrestrictive dinner) the food was unimpressive, lacking imagination and quite boring to be honest. There was only one oyster dish that left a lasting taste. C. When the menu was read to us the waiter kept pointing out the additional cost for the dishes he presented: vague beef 190 , white truffles 130 goose liver 45… To me it seemed like a cheap trick in a dinner affair that was already expensive This is our second experience in a 3 Michelin star restaurant. The first was in France 3 years ago, which left us amazed for years to come. Maybe it’s the American pallet… For us Per Se was a gastronomique at best.
The overall taste was very ordinary, and the entire menu was overly heavy. The dessert pairing at the end was a complete failure. The repetitive use of chocolate was unoriginal. This is not the level one would expect from a three-star Michelin restaurant. I was very disappointed with this experience, and the service staff's handling also let me down.
We celebrated a birthday with a party of eight in the private dining room, and frankly, the experience was underwhelming and a significant decline from my last visit a few years ago. I am genuinely baffled that the restaurant maintains its three Michelin stars. This might be my least favorite 3 stars in the city. Service: The service was extremely slow at the outset. It took an unacceptable amount of time to get our initial drink order in. We eventually had to flag down a staff member to let our server know we were ready to order because no one checked on us for a long time. Furthermore, there were multiple instances where water was splashed during refills and plates were cleared with a jarring amount of noise. It felt unacceptable for a restaurant at this caliber. The private dining room also doesn’t have a tablecloth set up. I can’t believe how they’re okay with that?? Food: The food quality was just "meh" with noticeable issues in seasoning—dishes were either too salty or unbalanced. For the $425 menu price, the choice was limited, and there was a heavy emphasis on expensive, uninspired upgrades. It felt like a conscious effort to nickel-and-dime the customer. There was no single dish memorable enough to warrant a return visit. Overall, the quality has sadly slid, and this was not the three-star experience we expected.
TL;DR: I would happily walk in for Oysters and Pearls, but I would not return for the full dinner experience.\n\nOysters and Pearls is absolutely worth the three stars. Everything else, however, left…
Tired space, cold service, and mid-tier food. We went for an engagement celebration and that wasn't mentioned once during the course of our dining experience. lamb and lobster were near impossible …
I don’t leave reviews very often, but I was really disappointed by this experience and genuinely confused by all the positive reviews. For context, my partner and I spent a week visiting New York, and as a special treat, he booked Per Se for one of our evenings. We’re both French and have had the opportunity to dine at several Michelin-starred restaurants in Paris and London. Per Se was one of the most expensive Michelin-starred restaurant we’ve been to, even before any wine pairings, so we were expecting an extraordinary meal. I understand that Michelin criteria tend to be more stringent in France than elsewhere, so I went in with an open mind. Unfortunately, we both found the meal underwhelming: both in terms of flavors and presentation. While there were a few enjoyable elements, we struggled to understand how this restaurant holds three Michelin stars. In France, we felt it might align more with a one-star experience. I realize this might sound harsh, so I’ll go through some of the dishes that were disappointing: 1. Salad of Greenmarket Root Vegetables – This was the weakest dish for me. It consisted of very simple vegetables with a bland sauce. 2. Hand-cut Tagliatelle (Supplement) – My partner ordered this, and while the pasta itself was quite nice, the server grated truffles over the dish, leaving a long trail of them on the tablecloth—and then just walked away. In most restaurants, this might be fine, but not at this level of dining. 3. Elysian Fields Farm Lamb – I was really excited about this dish because it looked stunning. But unfortunately, the lamb itself was bland, and the beluga lentils completely overpowered it 4. 18-Month Aged Comté – My partner was particularly looking forward to this, as he loves strong, aged Comté. The presentation and textures were interesting, but the flavor was disappointingly mild—more like a soft cheese than the rich, nutty taste you’d expect from aged Comté. To be fair, I did enjoy the Whey-Poached Stonington Sea Scallop—the scallop was perfectly cooked, and the combination of textures and flavors was well-balanced. And the Assortment of Desserts was excellent. But all in all, we paid over $1,000 for what was meant to be an unforgettable meal in New York, and instead, we were left disappointed—spending the rest of the week wondering what we had missed.
It took me way too long to write this review. But after sharing my experience with several friends, I realise it’s time to call this restaurant out for what they did. On 30 April 2024, I visited Per Se with my husband and our business partner. My husband was loaned a jacket because it’s still a thing to put on a suit for dinner 🤷♀️ you’d think most fine dining restaurants would do away such decorum by now. However, we still respect and play by the rules without fuss. A few dishes in, the three of us shared the same consensus that the food was bland and honestly, just not great at all. When the server approached us to check in on us, we gave our honest feedback on the general blandness of the food. He took it seriously and went back to the kitchen with our feedback. Shortly after, another server, presumably a manager, came to our table and explained to us that this is French food and quote “ we cannot expect it to taste as bold as Asian food. “ This comment was made because we were three asians , from Singapore, not speaking with an American accent? What was that about, really? Because we are asians, we are unfamiliar with French food? We have spent loads of time in France and many other parts of Europe. We are business owners running our business across three continents. I am pretty sure we know what French food is supposed to taste like. I wouldn’t be so offended had it been put in a way of why the chef wanted to present the flavours as such, rather than tell us that we are the problem and implying that our palette is not sophisticated enough to understand the food. I will never visit this place again, not for the pretentious vibes and racist undertones.
