Authentic basque food! Everything was stellar, I particularly enjoyed the small plates and turbot fish.

Excellent food in small plates style. Especially the tomato salad, the beef with bone marrow and amberjack. A little pricey. Very much enjoyed

Distinct flavors and dishes like the Pulpo Octopus Carpaccio or the Arraultza Chorizo are definitely some of the reasons to visit this cozy West Side restaurant.

Casual setting with delicious and creative food. And warm, accommodating staff who elevate the experience.

Food is tapas style to be shared. Everything we tried was excellent! They were serving a special turbot fish as well which was a gem of a dish! Roasted to perfection with garlic and olive oil. Service was fast and attentive! Great wine selection and excellent cocktails. Really fun basque restaurant!

Just as good as El Quinto Pino 😍 I was the only one left sitting at the bar (late reservation on a Sunday night) eating amazing dish after amazing dish. Láminas de Setas was seriously off the chain. Unbelievable 🔥🔥🔥 I forget the server and bartender's names (Sorry guys) but they were spectacular. And I've had that cookbook in my Amazon cart for over a year... Now I have a signed edition!

Txikito offers both style and comfort in its space. The restaurant clearly invests in better food sources. This place offers good vibes, attentive service and tasty options. Staff showed remarkable warmth. Employees were friendly, dishes tasted great.

My husband and I ended our NYC trip with a dinner at Txikito. We had eaten at the sister restaurants, La Vara and Saint Julivert, the previous two nights. All 3 are tapas restaurants and all are SUPERB. They are small intimate restaurants with a friendly vibe. We were met by Mar who seated us. Elle was our server and she explained the menu and the specials. We took most of her suggestions and they did not disappoint! The white asparagus melted in our mouths. The squid ribbons were tender and flavorful. We had the whole trout topped with Serrano ham as our large plate. It was perfectly filleted and the sauce was a vinaigrette that we sopped up with bread. Desert was a divine crustless cheesecake and a meringue. There is more I could say about the other dishes we ate, but the bottom line is that the food and atmosphere were wonderful. I also thank Esther who served us with a smile. The manager, Damani, came up and graciously introduced himself. This is a team that clearly enjoy working together! Before the evening ended we found out that Elle had grown up in a house in Raleigh around the corner from where we live. The couple sitting at the table next to us were from Durham, NC. It is a small world! Thank you, Txikito, for a memorable last meal in NYC!

Really enjoyed dinner here! All the small plates (octopus carpaccio, beef tongue/jowl, croquettes, green bean special, artichokes with poached egg) were delicious and the service was wonderful. I enjoyed that they had so many traditional Spanish dishes (like anchovies) on the menu. It was really busy for a Monday night… always a good sign ☺️

Thos place is amazing. Walk there and enjoy Chelea. Everything we ate was great. Their wine selection was fabuloud as well.

Fantastic dining experience. The king oyster mushrooms and croquettes were outstanding.

D

Beneath the amber glow of a magical chilly winter evening, this oyster mushroom dish felt like poetry on a plate, cared by a chef’s love, turning it into a symphony of flavors. Each bite was a silken interplay between tender and toothsome, imbued with an umami taste that melted on the palate; elevating the essence with an almost ethereal touch. This dish felt less like a food and more like an art. I’ll recommend this to anyone who believes we ‘live to eat’ and not eat to live.

The service here is spectacular. They answer any and all questions with lots of enthusiasm. The food and drinks were delicious, although a bit expensive.

Surprised this place only has 4.4. Food was phenomenal as was the service. The Som recommended a fantastic and affordable orange wine. The recs from the sever were all delicious. We loved the anchovy olive skewers, the tomatoes, the cod croquettes, and the squid “pasta”. We were recommended a delicious sherry to try with dessert that we never would have ordered on our own. For good food, the bill was reasonable. Will definitely be coming back here!

Awesome spot. Tastey and edgy food, great selection of wine and ciders. Highly recommended to foodies who wanna bring friends along to try different things without commiting to a full entree. Great spot for friends to share a bunch of dishes over drinks who don't wanna meet at a bar. Also, moderately priced. The best part about this place is the staff, very responsive and appropriate...they actually have manners and you genuinely feel they are looking out for your best interest in your time there, which is rare in NYC dining. Even in the ultra expensive pillars of the industry. Establishments like these stick out for the service and ambience.

The food was out of this world and prices were reasonable given the level of quality. We sat at the bar for a date and had a ball; highly recommend coming here and have no fear ordering the craziest things on the menu. Shoutout the snails, the artichoke, and many of the cocktails.

We coming back and in New York it says something. Food is great, staff is amazing! Last time Collin made our dinner experience - funny, attentive, knowledgeable about the restaurant and the menu. Our order always includes Gildas, octopus + 6 other things from the menue. And, of course, a meringue and cheesecake for dessert (yes, both..sometimes multiples).

J

In a big city with endless selection, NYC somehow lacks in quality Tapas. Txikito really exceeded my expectation. Great ambiance for the space, with outdoor seating available. Tapas style plates, probably a party of three would be the right size to try 5 to 6 dishes. Seafood was cooked to perfection with the right acidity to balance. Highly recommend the octopus and the sword fish that we ordered. Definitely a place I'd revisit.

S

This was a phenomenal dinner, my photos below only represent a small selection of what we actually ate. Warm, charming and lovely, Txikito is the perfect place to go with a group and share several selections. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere is lovely. The trout with Serrano ham was probably my favorite, however everything was very tasty. The deviled crab was also a favorite. We also tried two lovely riojas which paired wonderfully with the food. This is also a great entry point for folks who are not too familiar with Spanish cuisine. The pulpo (pictured below) is nothing like the traditional plating, and could be more approachable for people who are intimidated by a tentacle. Same goes for the tongue, I thought it was delicious, but my husband and father-in-law said it didn't taste anything like tongue! Whatever you choose to order, be sure to enjoy it in good company with good wine.

Truly phenomenal Basque tapas. The boquerones were the best I've ever had, but the real standout was the txipirones (shredded squid). One of the most unique and delicious dishes I've had in a long time.

Food was amazing, will definitely be back! My boyfriend and I split two of the smaller appetizers (kroketas del dia and blistered shishito peppers), their pig entree special, and the chocolate flan for dessert.

What an amazing meal! Service, food, and the atmosphere could not have been better. Small plates showcasing Basque Cuisine, each unique and bursting with flavors. Shrimp are a must with the Aioli. Mates de Granja was bursting with flavor and freshness, letting the tomatoes shine. Pochas / Beans with rock shrimp and mussels, I could eat every day. Double Pil Pil, I love salted Cod, and poached in olive oil, so tender. Oh, and the Cordero, who doesn't like beef cheeks that melt in your mouth with flavor. Dessert, well, I went for the Pastel De Moscatel, Butter cake, rhubarb, and crème Anglaise, you had me at Butter Cake! Not to mention the cocktails and wine, I can't wait to go back.

High quality, tasty bites. A little on the pricier side but was expected. I loved my carrot juice cocktail. We had the beef cheek and my partner loved the anchovy appetizer. Expect small portions but good vibes. We will definitely be coming here again.

Went with two friends, and having a reservation made the evening seamless. Drinks were honestly very well done, balanced and memorable. The food carried the night, with the octopus carpaccio standing out as my personal favorite, delicate, fresh, and layered with flavor. We began with the croquetas, perfectly crisp and packed with richness. The láminas de setas offered an earthy depth, while the crispy pork leg delivered on both texture and taste. For dessert, the flan proved to be the right choice, silky, sweet, and the perfect way to close the meal. Altogether, a thoughtfully executed dining experience worth recommending. ~ Phantom Eats will return. 👻🍴

We had an exceptional experience at Txikito. First, the service was impeccable - the staff was so friendly and helpful. They were very knowledgeable about the dishes and wine- you could tell there’s a great atmosphere in the restaurant not just as a patron, but as a staff member as well. The food was also amazing. Highlights were definitely the blue cheese croquettes and the olive oil poached cod- definitely do not skip out on that cod! We also really enjoyed the artichoke and the basque cheesecake. Overall, a very nice and fun experience. Sadly I didn’t take any pictures of the food- too busy enjoying it!

Delicious food. Ends up being quite an expensive meal, but tapas always is. Wait staff very friendly and knowledgeable, but were a bit sparse on the night I went. While this lead to a bit of a wait to order and get drinks, the rest of the night played out wonderfully with ample time between courses so that everything was warm when we ate it and we never felt rushed. And as I say, the food was uniformly delicious.

L

I couldn't stop eating here! Delightful tastes with notably good attention. The flavors were all quite standard. The employees were efficient yet warm in their service. The staff is attentive, the restaurant shows cleanliness and I look forward to returning.

Being a Spaniard I always have high expectations if I try a Spanish restaurant. This one I have to say that surpassed my expectations and it's the second time I visit. I highly recommend the Arroz meloso, which is similar to a risotto dish with sea urchin, prawns and enoki mushrooms. Delicious! I also LOVED the octopus carpaccio, and can't forget the amber Jack which was VERY good specially dipping the sauce with bread, the pikillos peppers which are a variation of red peppers, the artichokes with jamón, krotetas are so typical and YUMMY, the boquerones are a type of sardine macerated in vinegar (super Spanish too) , and the rodaballo which is a Mediterranean turbot, my favorite fish. They are all small size dishes "tapas" so you can order some of them. I tried 3 desserts and my FAVORITE was the "Ruso" which reminded me of a Swiss dessert called meringue with Gruyère crème, but it was meringue with cultured cream. BOMB!!!! Soooo GOOD! Service was great as well. The only thing I didn't think it made much sense was to use basque language in the menu. It was even hard for me to know what some of the dishes were and I'm Spanish. So I'm sure it's even harder for anyone who comes. PS: I was also surprised that they had barnacles which are a DELICATESSEN in Spain and tough to harvest... I ate them but I'm not sure if people in New York would appreciate them since for them barnacles are not edible here.

S
Spencer Murphy

Really great food, drinks and service. In wintertime avoid sitting at the end of the bar near the door - they don’t have their “air lock” system figured out and it is extremely drafty. Still we had a great time

J
Jennie Rivera

I'm confused by the positive feedback this place gets. The menu showcases professionally prepared dishes. Customer care here was truly exceptional. The people working here elevate the experience. The restaurant offers exceptional quality.

D
David Krivit

Sensational bomba with uni, shrimp & enoki mushroom. The bleu cheese croquettes were creamy and subtle. The octopus in citrus is so lovely and delicate and the white bean, shrimp & mussels were perfect with the garlic bread. We make a similar version at home of their Ensaldia Russe but theirs is a cake with a million lovely peas and a mayo frosting! Finished with a luxurious chocolate and cream flan. Only wish is cushions for the seats.

David Kolesa

What a great dinner and experience we had at Txikito. The pulpo carpaccio and the turbot were my favorite. The staff was amazing too, knowledgeable and super nice. Already planning my next visit.

Txikito was an incredible experience. Everything on the menu was so good. We had the steak, which was a sizable portion for four people and really, really good. The sommelier knew what they were doing and offered a great pairing. The dessert was incredible. Both the Bossk cake and the Ruso meringue puffs were incredible and worth ordering. The white bean soup was also to die for, and the succulent pig was so good. Overall, everything on the menu was worth trying again and worth going back for. It was really, really good. If you are in Chelsea, you should definitely try this.

E
Emma Hitchens

WOW. I was soooo happy with this meal. Everything was so delicious. We loved everything we had. The sommelier helped us pick a great bottle. We got the patatas, fried head on shrimps, and the kroketas as our snacks - all incredible. For colds we got the pulpo and the amberjack. For hot we got the mushroom carpaccio and the swordfish. Sincerely, everything was wonderful and I’d order it all again. We ordered a second round of kroketas bc they were just that good. My girlfriend’s favorite was the kroketas (truffle and leek) and my favorite was the amberjack. We can’t wait to come back with friends. Highly highly recommend!

The upside: Always a solid meal with certain dishes bringing absolute delight like the squid ribbons, the king Mushrooms, the suckling pig. There were 6 of us at we ordered about 2/3 of the menu. The downside: we were FREEZING 🥶. They say us near the front window and there was a solid draft coming through the roller windows. They should do something about the window or offer blankets or complimentary warm drinks. It was very uncomfortable.

D
Donald Abrams

I had a lovely meal herewith 5 other friends. Both our waiter and the sommelier were very helpful in describing the menus. We ordered a variety of dishes. Many stand outs including the Amberjack Crudo, the King Oyster Mushroom Carpaccio, with an elegant texture, the beautifully plated Wood Fired Basque Peppers, Fried Artichokes with Jamon, the Arroz Meloso, not a risotto, not a paella but a creamy textured dish enriched with uni. And finally the Cochinillo, crisp roast sucking pig, served with a side on lightly dressed frisee, a perfect fresh foil to the rich pork. The sommelier suggested perfect pairings for each "course." A couple of misses though. The white bean dish was lack luster and the rough cut potatoes were tasty but rather ordinary. Overall a well prepared and presented meal enjoyed by all in our party.

Txikito is a gem of Chelsea. I had dinner here for two, but it was also spacious enough for group dinners. They had absolutely incredible food, it felt like every plate surpassed the previous. The menu is very vegetarian and seafood friendly, but still lots of variety. The service was really great and the food came out very quickly. Would recommend this over and over!

Highly recommend! Our waitress cheerfully walked us through the menu and her favorites, and we loved everything we had! The alacachofa y jamon was a highlight, along with the arroz meloso, cocktails, and almond cake. Definitely on the pricier side, but worth it for a special occasion. The atmosphere was warm, laid-back, and perfect for a date night or catch-up with a friend!

Was amazing ambience and food. So many favorites and even the kids enjoyed the octopus, the oyster mushroom, pig suckling and the fish! Don’t wait to try it out. The cocktails were great- not too sweet - just the way I like it!

It was like being in San Sebastián again. My family had a wonderful meal here last night — starting with the fried potatoes and head on shrimp, then the raw amberjack, fried artichokes with ham, white anchovies, finishing the meal with steak but then reordered the anchovies and amberjack, they were that good. Everything was delicious, service was great and atmosphere cozy and unpretentious, and servers were welcoming to children.

Whoa what a nice discovery! Loved our experience there. The food and service were excellent. We sat at the bar (which allowed great conversation) the bartender was incredibly helpful and we were very happy with our choices thanks to her knowledge and expertise. We shared everything and chose 2/3 options from each section. The bartender was warm and friendly and you guys are lucky to have her. Also loved the vibes. Place was a packed. We were there on a Wednesday night at 7:30p. You will definitely need reservations for dinner.

Ambiance (5/5): Upon entering the establishment, I was welcomed by the bartender who was whisking away behind the beautiful bar. On the left was a large chalk board with the specials of the day (along with some cute drawings of fish/squid!). It opens up to a small dining area and then toward the second room on the left, another dining area. Although the space was small, the seating felt comfortable. It was quiet, intimate, and a bit dimly lit. The modern décor was inviting. Service (5/5): We were seated immediately for our reservation time. At all times, I felt like my server or any of the other staff were helping to clear tables and refill our drinks. I asked for suggestions before ordering and the waiter provided a handful. Never felt rushed dining. The pace of dishes came out in perfect timing. Food: Our waiter suggested 2-3 dishes per person and that was about right, since we ordered 8 (w one dish considered 2). By order of BEST to worst: Beef cheeks: This dish was so incredibly tender and the sauce was just right. Amberjack: The fish was very fresh and the oily mix provided it an extra kick of savory. Pro tip: ask to keep the empty dish so you can dip your bread into the oil. I liked how the cuts of fish fit perfectly on the provided bread. He also came out with a free refill of bread too! Suckling Pig (considered 2 dishes): The leg itself didn’t look appetizing but the meat was super tender and had lots of flavor. Be warned that there is a decent amount of bone before getting the meat off. Croquette of the day: truffle. So good! Alcachofa y jamon: The pieces of ham were thinly sliced and very savory. The poached egg beneath gave it a silky finish. Foie Gras: The blend was rich and not too meaty of liver and accompanied well with the jam. The bread was served flattened and toasted, which I preferred over the regular bread. The pickled roses were unique but I enjoyed the jam more. My only qualm is that the dollop jam was not enough. Octopus: SKIP THIS. I should have listened to other reviewers… This was my least favorite. While the cuts of octopus were thinly sliced, fresh and tender, the flavor tasted like I was eating soap?? Both desserts were phenomenal. Flan – the base of chocolate was a delish with the foam of whipped cream. It was fluffy but also rich. Not too sweet. I preferred this one more by a little. Cheesecake – the cheese cake slice was generous with the sides a little extra toasted. The pickled fruit and cream provided a nice presentation of the dish.

What a hidden gem! We’ve had a few dishes here and they were all delicious. The Arroz Meloso had such a unique flavor. This is a must order dish for sure. Pulpo (the octopus) was not only delicious but really nicely presented. Cochinillo was just melting in the mouth. The Gildas and Shishito peppers were just like the ones we tried in the Basque Country. Honestly, this place could easily stand out next to any popular San Sebastian spot. And if you’re in Brooklyn, their restaurant La Vara is also excellent and worth checking out.

We found Txikito through the NYC 100 Best Restaurants list, and it truly deserves its spot. This Basque tapas restaurant is warm, intimate, and feels like a little European escape tucked right into the city. The ambiance is cozy, the lighting soft and inviting, and the service… absolutely wonderful. The staff is attentive, friendly, and genuinely excited to share the dishes with you. Every dish we ordered was delicious — simple flavors done perfectly, with beautiful presentation: • Hot Jilda skewers: the ideal salty bite to start the meal. • Croquetas: crisp, golden, creamy… we could’ve ordered another plate. (Blue cheese • Quesquillas —Flash-fried head-on shrimp: tender, flavorful, and so fun to eat. • Arroz meloso: rich, seafood-forward, comforting — one of our favorites. • Mendreska: cooked beautifully, tender and flavorful with the perfect char. And the desserts were outstanding: • Flan Batido (the creamy cup): soft, whipped, chocolatey with that fluffy cream on top — unbelievably good. • Pastel de Moscatel: warm butter cake with grapes and crème anglaise — cozy, buttery, and perfect to end the night. We enjoyed every single thing we tried. Txikito is the kind of place where the food feels thoughtful, soulful, and just hits the spot. If you love tapas or want to try something truly special in NYC, this is a must-visit. ✨🍽️

I didn’t have high expectations since there is no hype for this restaurant, but the food is really good, especially the octopus and the croquetas. Totally recommend them. They missed one appetizer that was ordered late, but besides that the service was good and the atmosphere was great.

Insanely delicious. Everything we tried was simply amazing. Aaaammazzzinngg. And the service was great. Our favorites were: - swordfish belly - mushroom carpaccio - heirloom tomato salad - basque cheesecake - another fish that I forget Don’t skip dessert. The desserts are great. They recommend ordering around 2 dishes per person. All shareable. Most dishes are $20-$30. So it comes out to $50ish per person before drinks. Ordering wise, you can’t go wrong.

Best food we have had in NYC. Tapas Basque style. Superb Potatoes and Padrino Peppers, Anchovies, Cochinillo and whole shrimp, but the highlight was the Bombs Rice with Shrimp, flavored with Uni. I cannot remember eating anything quite so heavenly.

Nice place with good tapa style dishes. They had five specials on the menu and we got a mackerel special. The shishito peppers were good but the white asparagus was a bit underwhelming. The wagyu steak dish and the shrimp risotto dish was also great. Good dessert as well. On the more pricier side so probably best for special occasions.

We managed to get seats without a booking, which is extremely rare, especially on a weekend evening. The food is very good. The kroketas melt in your mouth, the pulpo is exceptional. I’ve heard good things about @txikitonyc and finally booked a weekend dinner! All the food was delicious and our server was very nice and patient in giving us great recommendations. They definitely deserve more love than they already do! Will be interested in coming back and trying more of their delicious Basque cuisine.

Lots of small plates, some similar to Spanish tapas and others very different because this is a Basque (region on France / Spain border) restaurant. Ambiance is buzzy -- it's a large room with lots of vino drinkers. Service is prompt and staff was somewhat helpful in choosing our exotic-sounding plates. Four of us tried about 20 dishes. All good, a few excellent. We found most portions are small and only enough for 2 to sample so the meal became expensive very quickly. Would go back for the grilled anchovies.

J

Good food, and friendly staff. Conversely it felt on the expensive side for what it is, and the space is extremely loud, to the point that it was a bit deafening.

K

Excellent meal. Recommend. Be sure to ask the price of specials. The one we ordered was 3x ALL the other dishes on the menu at $70. Dish was just ok. Really jacked my budget for the meal. Otherwise really interesting. Great wine selection.

Modern Spanish cruise. The food was cooked nicely however most of them are lack of flavor.

R
Roger Blanken

I really wanted to love this place, having heard great reviews from friends. But … I found the food to be lacking in taste (particularly the Gilda and Kroketas) and the presentation was similar to what my mother would have done. Not bad, just average. I read about its Basque heritage but nothing about the restaurant and food really felt Basque to me (and I lived in Spain for a few years, working in the Basque Country). And more importantly, I found the wine to be middling. Nonetheless, my friend and I had a great time and the service was excellent.

An awesome tapas experience all around. If you have the chance to order most things on the menu you honestly can’t go wrong. The personal highlights for me were the Cochinillo(crispy pork) and the Gilda(anchovy olives). Both were highly curated flavors and the pork had a great combination of juiciness and crispiness. If you should feel adventurous the Foie Micuit was responsible for the most unique flavors of the night with the nice floral violet jelly.

The food here is terrific. Wonderful Basque food, very stylishly prepared. The seafood is very fresh. The service is quite good. The place is not cheap, expect to spend about $75 per head or more for a reasonable amount of food with wine.

Pleasant ambience and friendly staff. I had the Arroz meloso, octopus carapaccio, and kroketas (truffle flavor on that day). The rice was superb, creamy, perfect rice texture and flavor. The octopus was a bit disappointing, certainly bland and in my opinion the citrus leaves ruin the dish. The kroketas were decent. 4 stars for NYC, pricey rice dish - worth, pricey octopus - not worth, cheap kroketas - worth. PS I'm from the Basque Country

Tried Txikito on a whim the other night and thought that it was a nice place, good service — yet the food portions were small for the price. Sangria was top notch though!

Great tapas and drinks with pleasant, unhurried service. Unplanned but irresistible dessert for our party of three was a bonus!

Food 8/10 Overall great flavors and tapas are lovely, but it is pricey for what you get. We ordered the fried shrimp, bone marrow, jamon and fried artichoke, and beef cheeks. Highly recommend the beef cheeks, they were super tender and flavorful. The jamon and fried artichoke were very unique and a fun dish to try. The bone marrow was alright, I think not enough bone marrow and too much red peppers + bread. The shrimp were crunchy, but not a necessary order. Atmosphere 8/10 Very cute, located in Chelsea. Plenty of seating inside. Service 5/10 Honestly very slow service, I was a bit disappointed. It took a while for them to notice us and take our order, and also to get our bill.

My friends (yes more than one and from different cohorts) mentioned this tapas place to me and intrigued me about their whole turbot dish. I really liked turbot yet I only had turbot steaks not the whole fish so I decided to take leap of faith with a dinner for two. Small plates: Cogollos A combination of mainly gem lettuce, Catabric anchovy, tuna (could be wrong). Quiet on the salty side. I ordered this as a salad, and I expected the salinity to be high due to the existence of anchovy. The gem lettuce is quite crispy and the drizzle of the dressing on top is herbaceous and cuts the salinity with acid. I personally still think the dish is way too salty for me. Arroz Meloso A dish of cooked bomba rice with tomato, uni, wild shrimp, enoki mushroom. Still on the saltier side yet I would order this again. The umami-ness of this dish is through the roof. The rice is a lot like a risotto texture, with a bit of chew and bounce. The shrimp is succulent and cooked to a perfect texture. Both uni and tomato give the dish its bright color and the rice and the mushroom soak up this umami-ness like sponges. A burst of flavor bombs on the tongue and it is a dish I would scrape the plate until no residue is left. Large plate: Whole Turbot (the special, not always there) Okay as the name implies it is a whole turbot baked with herbs, garlic, and olive oil. It is not the real name of the dish but the original name is in Spanish and I don’t know how to spell. The fish itself has a high omega-3 content, and after baking it resulted in a quite rich and smooth mouthfeel. There is no charring for the most part of the fish, the primary texture is pretty tender. The garlic and the herbs aid to balance the rich taste with some spice and flavor besides the intrinsic subtle sweetness of the fish. However, due to the fish’s innate oil content, I found finishing the whole fish is still a bit too much, as my taste buds and brain got saturated with fat pretty fast. I kinda wished there is more acidity to help counterbalance. That being said, it is a pretty good tapas place with a high price tag. I liked the inside of the restaurant, feels pretty graceful with a homie touch. The space is a bit limited but the hospitality is great. I would go again, but probably would order some other things instead. PS: their menu changes often according to the daily inventory and don’t forget to ask about the daily specials!

This is a review of the even by Tasting Collective that we attended. It was a 10 course Traditional Basque Feast. This restaurant is owned and operated by husband and wife chef team. They have a few other restaurants in NYC. I always enjoy Basque style food, Spanish cuisine and tapas, so I was excited for this event. The interior is heavy with wood, making it cozy and warm atmosphere that is so inviting. They have two rooms, one with a bar and small amount of seating, and another room with many more table seating. We were pretty crammed in the second room, barely fitting the table, sitting over the edge… And since there were no space to put everyone’s coats and bags, the seating was really, REALLY tight. At this event, we got to try Marijuli, Croqueta de Bakalo, Pimientos de Gernika, Mondatio Tutera, Pulpo de Roca, Gulas del Monte, Bakalo Andra Mari, Pochas, Cochinillo, and Txakoli Poached Pear. Even though this was a tasting event, the amount of food we received was very small. They were all tasty, high quality, and some dishes were even creative and very interesting. I wish if we had a bit more portion so that we could fully appreciate the flavor of each dish. The best thing fro the 10 course was Pulpo de Roca and the dessert. We had a nice dinner here. Each dish was very tasty and high quality. I liked the uniqueness of the dishes and creativity that came with it. It was not as comfortable, as we were over the edge of the table, and the portion received was small…but we were still happy to attend this event. Chef Alex was great, provided us with loads of interesting information and very personable.

Plates are really good! Especially I liked mushroom and octopus. However, portions are small, so I think they are a little bit overpriced. If you only care about taste, then this is a good place.

This was such a great random find. Please note though that there aren't too many vegetarian options. However, the options that exist very amazing! Each item was well thought out in terms of the different flavors to combine and the seasoning. The sauces enhanced each of the dishes. I was able to get 5 veggie items and between the 5 I left pretty full. Ambiance: The vibe of this restaurant is perfect. It's a great combination of elegant and casual. Service: Everyone was very friendly. We sat at the bar and service was fast. They also took their time to give us recommendations. Instagram: @TheShahLALand

Once I got past the hostess who came off sterile and acted annoyed. The GM took over and made things far more enjoyable. To be fair, I walked in by myself without a reservation, but how it was managed is another. My dinner was great, the service was also.

The service was satisfactory. The food was good but we found mostly all the dishes a bit too salty.

The food was fairly good but it was tiny portions , which is normal for this kind of restaurant . Excellent service though. However I found it to be a bad value for money .(yes even for New York) We paid close to $65 per person and left very hungry . I wouldn’t go back .

Would not recommend. The portions were incredibly small for the price — definitely not worth it. I sat at the bar and there was a freezing blast of AC right over my shoulders the entire time. I actually got sick afterward. Overall, I really didn’t enjoy the experience. There are far better Spanish restaurants out there, both in terms of food and comfort.

Very friendly staff, but no dish stood out to us in particular. Ingredients were quality and fresh but the dishes consistently lacked flavor. The green apple sorbet was a nice touch

We ordered a bunch of different dishes to share between 2 people for dinner. We had the sausage, peppers, octopus cappacio, shrimp with veggies cooked with miso, and the rice with bunch of seafoods (like a risotto).. overall the food was tasty and with good presentation.. however, we think the sausage was a bit pricey ($9 for 2 tinny skews with only 2 tinny piece of sausages...).. The overall bill came to be $110.. I think most of the food here have tinny portion.. it is kinda expensive for the price they are charging for this tinny plate of food.. you should definitely get some snacks before or after eating here.. it's not bad but definitely not a everyday dinning spot for us 😅

We had the piperrak, pulpo carpaccio, arroz meloso, morros, and something else. The taste of the appetizer dishes were very strong but not impressive. I didn't like the fish dish or the rice dish. For dessert we had the gatza pastela and the ruso. Didn't like the cheesecake but the ruso i liked.

Every dish felt like it was missing something, whether garnish, seasoning, or depth of flavor. The pacing was poor: we received three or four dishes before our cocktail and bottle of wine arrived. Service was unresponsive, and the prices were high for the portion sizes. We also noticed that our server had a bandage and gauze on her arm that looked like she had just given blood. We understand there may be medical reasons for this, but it felt like something that could have been covered with a scarf, jacket, or other piece of clothing. When she reached across our table, that area of her arm was level with our faces, and it felt unsanitary and reminded us of blood during the meal. It might seem minor, but small details like this affect the overall experience. Overall, it was a good meal, but not one I’d go out of my way to repeat.

I’ll admit there may be slight bias in the fact that I think tapas these days in major cities are over priced based on the amount of food you get. This place is on the nyt list of best restaurant. The only seat we could get was 5 pm which was perfect actually time wise We got quite a few things. Most of the chilled items were tiny as to be expected and didn’t blow me away. The best might have been the oyster mushrooms they tasted better than the rich somehow. The risotto was perfect. Best flavor of all the dishes. But again just small. Can’t cost much to give a few more rice. We ordered the special turbo fish. Which presentation was amazing. But honestly the meat of the dish didn’t have the flavor we really wanted in a special. Taste didn’t meet presentation. The sausage was also good. The allowed us to have a 3rd for 5 more dollars. U can get so much sausage for 5 dollars u get a tiny price with pickled veggies. The wall mural inside is cute too

This place was just… all right. Nothing particularly special stood out to me, and I left feeling a bit underwhelmed. The fried shrimp was probably the highlight—crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right—but aside from that, the other dishes didn’t blow me away. To be honest, the location we were sat in totally killed the vibe. We were placed right outside the kitchen, so we had staff walking by us constantly, which made it difficult to enjoy the meal in peace. Not exactly the cozy, intimate dining experience I was hoping for.

The wagyu is good despite being served with anchovies, which need something savory to balance the flavors. The desserts are on point. I didn’t like the swordfish or any of the items under “snacks”.

N
Nicholas

Very disappointed with this experience. The night started off with us ordering a wine bottle which was opened in the kitchen. When asked why it wasn’t opened at the table, we were belittled and humiliated for asking (gaslit). Beyond that, the food was just disappointing, no dish was incredible and we left hungry and a bit ill. No hard feelings, just an honest review.

M
Mario Longhi

Unimpressive flavors. The dishes are far far to small and too expensive for the lack of quality. It is simply NOT WORTH IT. The menu is deceivingly diverse and “curious” but the food really leaves to be desired. I’m glad I went, but I would not recommend. Don’t get the sangria without knowing what’s in it (you might not enjoy it). The service was really good and the team is very attentive.

Varun V

The red sangria was outstanding. The artichoke dish was delicious. Everything else was pretty average. There was a lamb dish that was undercooked (almost inedible) & make my wife’s stomach hurt later on. We didn’t like the dessert- cheesecake was bland and the flan was really a mousse.

C
Carlos Villavieja

Flavors need some work, probably the only authentic dish was the Russian salad which was good. The rice was far from good and the lamb was tasty but hard. Service is kind but the place is a bit noisy. Give a try to the desserts as they were probably the highlight of our dinner.

Food was good but the service was some of the worst I’ve experienced. Dinner took 3 hours and we only left because we had to find the waiters to ask for the bill. They were more focused on closing and leaving than us, and the vibe was as if we were a burden to them. They didn’t fill our water once, ask us how the meal was… With Shukette down the road wouldn’t return. Kind of ruined the experience :)

Food was ok. If a tapas bar should advertise as such. My companions and I choose 3 hot meals. I'm a pescatarian so I ordered fish. The other 2 hotmeals delivered at same time and my companions shared. But my fish came 45 minutes later. My companions had ate already so their food would not go cold. I was no longer in mood to eat alone. My companions 2nd drink never arrived.

Food was fine. Service was horrible. They keep pushing you to order more dishes - I mean come on, maybe people have less appetite for a change.

T
Todd Rubin

Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by how unaccommodating and rigid the staff seemed. I understand and respect reservation policies, but being contacted twice within an hour of our reservation felt unnecessary and a bit intrusive. We arrived early for our bar reservation and politely asked if we could switch to a two-top. Even though the dining room had several open tables, we were told none were available because of a large party. Shortly after, multiple walk-ins with no reservations were seated at two-tops. When we asked why they were accommodated but we weren’t, we were told those tables needed to be turned by a certain time — an option we would have accepted had it been offered. We were also given inconsistent explanations about table locations. By the time we left, a two-top was still sitting empty. Listening to the interactions at the host stand only reinforced the sense that customer service was not a priority. The overall experience felt unwelcoming and unnecessarily inflexible, which was disappointing.
