Highly recommend! Our waitress cheerfully walked us through the menu and her favorites, and we loved everything we had! The alacachofa y jamon was a highlight, along with the arroz meloso, cocktails, and almond cake. Definitely on the pricier side, but worth it for a special occasion. The atmosphere was warm, laid-back, and perfect for a date night or catch-up with a friend!
It was like being in San Sebastián again. My family had a wonderful meal here last night — starting with the fried potatoes and head on shrimp, then the raw amberjack, fried artichokes with ham, white anchovies, finishing the meal with steak but then reordered the anchovies and amberjack, they were that good. Everything was delicious, service was great and atmosphere cozy and unpretentious, and servers were welcoming to children.
Whoa what a nice discovery! Loved our experience there. The food and service were excellent. We sat at the bar (which allowed great conversation) the bartender was incredibly helpful and we were very happy with our choices thanks to her knowledge and expertise. We shared everything and chose 2/3 options from each section. The bartender was warm and friendly and you guys are lucky to have her. Also loved the vibes. Place was a packed. We were there on a Wednesday night at 7:30p. You will definitely need reservations for dinner.
Ambiance (5/5): Upon entering the establishment, I was welcomed by the bartender who was whisking away behind the beautiful bar. On the left was a large chalk board with the specials of the day (along with some cute drawings of fish/squid!). It opens up to a small dining area and then toward the second room on the left, another dining area. Although the space was small, the seating felt comfortable. It was quiet, intimate, and a bit dimly lit. The modern décor was inviting. Service (5/5): We were seated immediately for our reservation time. At all times, I felt like my server or any of the other staff were helping to clear tables and refill our drinks. I asked for suggestions before ordering and the waiter provided a handful. Never felt rushed dining. The pace of dishes came out in perfect timing. Food: Our waiter suggested 2-3 dishes per person and that was about right, since we ordered 8 (w one dish considered 2). By order of BEST to worst: Beef cheeks: This dish was so incredibly tender and the sauce was just right. Amberjack: The fish was very fresh and the oily mix provided it an extra kick of savory. Pro tip: ask to keep the empty dish so you can dip your bread into the oil. I liked how the cuts of fish fit perfectly on the provided bread. He also came out with a free refill of bread too! Suckling Pig (considered 2 dishes): The leg itself didn’t look appetizing but the meat was super tender and had lots of flavor. Be warned that there is a decent amount of bone before getting the meat off. Croquette of the day: truffle. So good! Alcachofa y jamon: The pieces of ham were thinly sliced and very savory. The poached egg beneath gave it a silky finish. Foie Gras: The blend was rich and not too meaty of liver and accompanied well with the jam. The bread was served flattened and toasted, which I preferred over the regular bread. The pickled roses were unique but I enjoyed the jam more. My only qualm is that the dollop jam was not enough. Octopus: SKIP THIS. I should have listened to other reviewers… This was my least favorite. While the cuts of octopus were thinly sliced, fresh and tender, the flavor tasted like I was eating soap?? Both desserts were phenomenal. Flan – the base of chocolate was a delish with the foam of whipped cream. It was fluffy but also rich. Not too sweet. I preferred this one more by a little. Cheesecake – the cheese cake slice was generous with the sides a little extra toasted. The pickled fruit and cream provided a nice presentation of the dish.
What a hidden gem! We’ve had a few dishes here and they were all delicious. The Arroz Meloso had such a unique flavor. This is a must order dish for sure. Pulpo (the octopus) was not only delicious but really nicely presented. Cochinillo was just melting in the mouth. The Gildas and Shishito peppers were just like the ones we tried in the Basque Country. Honestly, this place could easily stand out next to any popular San Sebastian spot. And if you’re in Brooklyn, their restaurant La Vara is also excellent and worth checking out.
We found Txikito through the NYC 100 Best Restaurants list, and it truly deserves its spot. This Basque tapas restaurant is warm, intimate, and feels like a little European escape tucked right into the city. The ambiance is cozy, the lighting soft and inviting, and the service… absolutely wonderful. The staff is attentive, friendly, and genuinely excited to share the dishes with you. Every dish we ordered was delicious — simple flavors done perfectly, with beautiful presentation: • Hot Jilda skewers: the ideal salty bite to start the meal. • Croquetas: crisp, golden, creamy… we could’ve ordered another plate. (Blue cheese • Quesquillas —Flash-fried head-on shrimp: tender, flavorful, and so fun to eat. • Arroz meloso: rich, seafood-forward, comforting — one of our favorites. • Mendreska: cooked beautifully, tender and flavorful with the perfect char. And the desserts were outstanding: • Flan Batido (the creamy cup): soft, whipped, chocolatey with that fluffy cream on top — unbelievably good. • Pastel de Moscatel: warm butter cake with grapes and crème anglaise — cozy, buttery, and perfect to end the night. We enjoyed every single thing we tried. Txikito is the kind of place where the food feels thoughtful, soulful, and just hits the spot. If you love tapas or want to try something truly special in NYC, this is a must-visit. ✨🍽️
I didn’t have high expectations since there is no hype for this restaurant, but the food is really good, especially the octopus and the croquetas. Totally recommend them. They missed one appetizer that was ordered late, but besides that the service was good and the atmosphere was great.
Insanely delicious. Everything we tried was simply amazing. Aaaammazzzinngg. And the service was great. Our favorites were: - swordfish belly - mushroom carpaccio - heirloom tomato salad - basque cheesecake - another fish that I forget Don’t skip dessert. The desserts are great. They recommend ordering around 2 dishes per person. All shareable. Most dishes are $20-$30. So it comes out to $50ish per person before drinks. Ordering wise, you can’t go wrong.
Nice place with good tapa style dishes. They had five specials on the menu and we got a mackerel special. The shishito peppers were good but the white asparagus was a bit underwhelming. The wagyu steak dish and the shrimp risotto dish was also great. Good dessert as well. On the more pricier side so probably best for special occasions.
We managed to get seats without a booking, which is extremely rare, especially on a weekend evening. The food is very good. The kroketas melt in your mouth, the pulpo is exceptional. Generally food is top. Service is attentive and helpful. Great recommendations on food and quantity. Will definitely come back to try the other dishes
I’ve heard good things about @txikitonyc and finally booked a weekend dinner! All the food was delicious and our server was very nice and patient in giving us great recommendations. They definitely deserve more love than they already do! Will be interested in coming back and trying more of their delicious Basque cuisine.
Every dish felt like it was missing something, whether garnish, seasoning, or depth of flavor. The pacing was poor: we received three or four dishes before our cocktail and bottle of wine arrived. Service was unresponsive, and the prices were high for the portion sizes. We also noticed that our server had a bandage and gauze on her arm that looked like she had just given blood. We understand there may be medical reasons for this, but it felt like something that could have been covered with a scarf, jacket, or other piece of clothing. When she reached across our table, that area of her arm was level with our faces, and it felt unsanitary and reminded us of blood during the meal. It might seem minor, but small details like this affect the overall experience. Overall, it was a good meal, but not one I’d go out of my way to repeat.
I’ll admit there may be slight bias in the fact that I think tapas these days in major cities are over priced based on the amount of food you get. This place is on the nyt list of best restaurant. The only seat we could get was 5 pm which was perfect actually time wise We got quite a few things. Most of the chilled items were tiny as to be expected and didn’t blow me away. The best might have been the oyster mushrooms they tasted better than the rich somehow. The risotto was perfect. Best flavor of all the dishes. But again just small. Can’t cost much to give a few more rice. We ordered the special turbo fish. Which presentation was amazing. But honestly the meat of the dish didn’t have the flavor we really wanted in a special. Taste didn’t meet presentation. The sausage was also good. The allowed us to have a 3rd for 5 more dollars. U can get so much sausage for 5 dollars u get a tiny price with pickled veggies. The wall mural inside is cute too
This place was just… all right. Nothing particularly special stood out to me, and I left feeling a bit underwhelmed. The fried shrimp was probably the highlight—crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right—but aside from that, the other dishes didn’t blow me away. To be honest, the location we were sat in totally killed the vibe. We were placed right outside the kitchen, so we had staff walking by us constantly, which made it difficult to enjoy the meal in peace. Not exactly the cozy, intimate dining experience I was hoping for.
