Excellent food, friendly service
Upon arriving in Oakland i found this gem walking from the moxy and I was happy to enter the dining experience. The place was lively with good vibes of tunes. My meal was very delicious I enjoyed thoroughly. Thanks again. Shalom
Their food is Delicious & Fresh! My son & I stopped in today while shopping at a Bakery a few doors down. We came across their sign. LULA restaurant serving Ethiopian, Erittrian Food. We walked into a Brightly colored but simple place & were Greeted with a Pleasant Smile.
Absolutely perfect in every way. The food is just THE best Ethiopian flavors in all the Bay. It's the perfect balance of spicy and acid. This place should be packed all the time.
If you're not paying attention you could walk right by this little gem and you'd be sorry you did! Friendly staff, clean quaint restaurant with TONS of flavor!! Everything I ate was my favorite thing. I'll definitely be back.
Mmmm just ordered the veggie plate and it was sooo fresh, spicy, creamy, crunchy — all the textures blended so well w the flavors - I’ll be ordering this again very soon!
Amazing and authentic food plus friendly staff and ample parking. I highly recommend the “derk tibs “& “kitfo”. Since we discovered Lula’s restaurant we haven been enjoying our meal every Friday.
Vegetarian platter is excellent (8 different veggie dishes, including beets!!) If you are unable to digest gluten (or you are bringing someone to dinner with you who is g free) call a few hours ahead of time and they'll make some gf injera.
Genuinely one of the most flavorful meals I've had. Ordered the vegetarian samosa, mitten shiro, meat platter, and doro tibs. Everything was delicious, but the mitten shiro was surprisingly the favorite. Highly recommend everything ordered.
My favorite is the Kitfo. There is a particular spiced butter that Lula outsources from Ethiopia, that makes all the difference. For the non meat options the veggie combo is a delicious blend of lentils, cabbage and collard greens set on the enjera ( the traditional bread). The vegetable, legume and seed based plate blends well together, while accentuating their individual flavors. The customer service is warm. I highly recommend this little restaurant for a taste of Ethiopian Cuisine. They also serve alcohol if you fancy a drink.
The best Ethiopian food that I've had in a while, and certainly in the Bay area! Flavors were richer than I've had in either places, and the vegetarian dishes were especially good. We had the veg combo & meat combo. The chicken was great, smokey cacao notes. The cabbage & carrots also surprised us with how flavorful they were - tangy and satisfying. Highly recommend!
Delicious and low-key. Everything we had was tasty.

Update: returned two years later. Great food but there was something funky about one of the dishes in one of the two combos we ordered. Also, the bathroom is absolutely filthy. --- Sent us on a wild goose chase as they hadn't updated their opening hours

Please stop blasting music past 2am out of your restaurant on any given day. It can be heard around the entire block. I am posting this at 3am because you are still blasting music out of your restaurant in the evening as an unofficial bar. Update & PSA: I was woken up at 4am because they were blasting music again. This customer threatened to kill me multiple times on and off camera for asking them to turn it down at 4am. He later on went to graffiti my building with hate speech. Additionally, the owner of this restaurant assaulted me for asking them to turn it down at 4am. Horrible establishment.

I ordered through their website (from the Google map link) for pick up. I got there, they said the website order form doesn't work and no I wouldn't get my food or refund. I showed them that the payment went through and I was charged and they didn't care. Said take it up with the credit card company and give them money again if I wanted food.
The Food Taste Very Bad Don't Even Have Ethiopian Cuisine Flavor. They Should Open Something Else Instead Of Restaurant🤷🏽♀️ The Food I Got Yesterday I Even Remake It With Something At My House To Bring The Flavor Back!!! Give Them One⭐
