Always a warm welcome greeting. I like that there is something new on the menu every time I visit. Local support and the vibe is very Bay Area with just the right amount of new modern contemporary esthetic. The coffee is warm and delicious, not commercial. The location is perfect and put you right in the heart of Downtown Oakland near all transportation making this a location where you can either sit and chill ir get it and go. Easy to access and ADA friendly.

An absolute must visit when in Downtown Oakland. The Cafe by Mr. Espresso has been on my ‘East Bay Coffee Heads’ collection since day 1! I really love how they collaborate with local chefs in the Bay to create fun drinks that reinvent just grabbing a cup of coffee. In 2023, I first visited and tried their limited Orange Creamsicle Cold Brew topped with cold foam and candied orange peel. I was immediately hooked! Gosh, I was so sad when that item came off the menu. I almost hesitated to try their new collabs going forward because I knew I would be so heartbroken when it was the end of the collab period. I’m super grateful that their Cold Brew Tonic is one of their staple menu items, because it reminds me *a little bit* of the orange creamsicle cold brew in terms of acidity and fruitiness. Another absolute banger of a drink that they released was the Sago’t Gulaman Iced Coffee in collaboration with Harold Villarosa. I was lucky enough to try it on a Friday so I came back the next day and ordered three to go to save for the next few days since they’re closed on Sundays. I had the opportunity to enjoy my coffee there the other week and tried their newest drink— White Choke-Late! Who would’ve known that sunchokes could pair so well with coffee. The bar-style ordering is also quite interesting. It creates a very casual atmosphere between the customers and the baristas which I adore! Everyone is always so helpful and super quick to prepare your drinks. Even when there’s a huge rush, the team always seems to be so level-headed. I absolutely recommend enjoying your drink there if you have the opportunity to. The vibes are immaculate, the drinks & pastries are top tier, and the service is excellent. Say hi to everyone, even the owner, i believe his name is Luigi. He is so kind and helpful & always looking for feedback whenever he’s there. Thank you to The Caffe Team for always producing consistently high quality coffee & other drinks!

This place has really high-quality coffee and makes some really creative drinks as well. Oakland itself has a lot of good coffee, shops, but the other part that makes this place stand out is the atmosphere. It’s a nice blend of an Italian coffee shop, ordering style and an American flare on it as well. We don’t come here every day, but we come here when we want a really good cup of coffee and be in a really cool environment at the café.

The coffee here consistently surpasses that of any other establishment I've visited in the Bay Area. Its quality is reliably excellent. I regularly commute from San Leandro specifically for a butterscotch latte, though I can attest that every item on the menu is of exceptional quality.

Delicious gluten free chocolate brownie treat. Unexpected find. Unexpectedly delicious. Great coffee too of course.

I was able to choose espresso type fitted my beverage (there were two: medium-dark roast and medium, so I went with the latter one). My Oatmilk hot latte query cinnamon ($6.25) was awesome, highly recommend! The thing to improve: I really want organic oatmilk instead of what the store has right now. Modern stylish place with great employees. Parking is bad (I saw one car with a broken window).

Another local gem cafe! My favorite is the Tiger coffee (Thai tea + coffee) but they always have limited seasonal collabs with Oakland based chefs/partners. I love that they support everything local (from beans to drink collabs to the chocolates and gifts they display!). Space is small but there are some seatings by the counter and stools by the window.

Had the pleasure of visiting The Caffè by Mr. Espresso in downtown Oakland yesterday ☕😎👍 A contemporary cafe inspired by the time-honored coffee culture of Italy! The atmosphere was inviting, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. The selection of coffee was impressive, and the pastries were delightful. I especially enjoyed the cannoli; it was the perfect blend of creamy filling and crisp pastry shell. I will definitely be back for more coffee and another taste of those delicious cannoli! 🌟

Cool origin story. Magnificent quality products across their entire inventory. Cheers for being open on a holiday. Barista service was rare combo of quick and wonderfully delicious. Aesthetic presentation also marvelous. ☕️

The staff was friendly and upbeat. The gentleman who helped me was very knowledgeable about the pastries and gave me a background about the chef and the San Francisco location. My sweet cream ice coffee was lovely and buttery. Definitely recommend this place if you want a pick me up!

My go to spot when I’m in the office. Staff is awesome and super friendly. This is a rarity to get to know who works behind the counter. Food options are varied from pastries, sandwiches, salads, and there awesome cookies. Coffee is strong and well made. Visually on point and a delight. Seating is limited and the bar is where you want to be to truly enjoy the decor and the vibe. There are many coffee shops but this is by far one of the best. Swing by and get a warm welcome and a wonderful drink.

I got the Butterscotch Latte and almond croissant and really liked both. I can’t wait to try the cold brew and cream on my next visit. Jeannette (?) was super nice! UPDATE: My current fav drink is the Orange Creamsicle. 😋😋😋 Also! Their housemade ricotta is delish!

Very good coffee and knowledgeable staff. Recommended. Update: I think their regular drip is much better than the many pour overs I have had. Absolutely great coffee. I also loved their extra strong filter coffee, sugo, which is in-between filter coffee and espresso.

Wow! Great find. Great place with interesting, great quality espresso drinks. I had the nocciola-tte, a flat white with chocolate hazelnut. I came by during their day of “Buon Anniversario” for which they partnered with some great Bay Area bakeries including B. Patisserie. I hope I’m in the area again to come back.

The Best coffee shop in Oakland! Definitely number one! The coffee at the Caffe is so good to the point I no longer go to other renown coffee shops in the area, or when I go, I feel like something is missing in their coffee. The only thing, I wish the Caffe served fresh pastries on a consistent level but other than that it’s 10/10.

The quality of the latte, milk and espresso is not to be ignored. The drinks here are so exquisite it is truly like you are walking into an Italian cafe. I am so glad we have a gem of a place right in the center of Oakland as the drinks here are very high quality

My favorite cafe! My husband & I go here almost every week to get a matcha and butterscotch latte. The staff is wonderful! They treat us like friends/family. And the drinks are unique and creative. In my opinion, this is the best cafe in the Bay Area. 10/10+++

I have visited and enjoyed many Caffe Bars all over the world. I like finding the one of a kind Caffe Bars that are unique individual places. I'm a fair reviewer who looks at the whole picture of the business. The Caffe by Mr. Espresso is an hidden gem located in Oakland California. The unique design inside and out gives you a great warm feeling of comfort of a European/Italian Caffe Bar. The "Bar" concept is out of the ordinary for a Coffee house in the United States but very unique and fun. It is a place that you shouldn't be in a rush to get your beverages and pastries. The coffee they serve is very good and robust flavors. I also ordered two pastries, which were very good and tasty but the cinnamon roll was hard and seemed like it should have been previously warmed up before serving.. The texture was extremely hard and the cinnamon taste was missing. Good with the caffe but not great. I will definitely return to try another pastry and Coffee. This is a priceless place for everyone to enjoy. Please have patients when you try this Caffe Bar.

I’ve been buying their beans for a while and am glad to have a storefront now! they have a nice selection of classic espresso drinks and pourovers, plus some interesting specialty drinks. The interior is beautiful but the layout here is super odd; there is a very long counter and I didn’t know where to go to order since there was no line, just one person waiting for drinks. The staff were also not as helpful as I was hoping for - with 3 people working I was not expecting to have to wait more than a couple minutes to order, and the barista didn’t know what was used for the cold brew. It was good though. I’d have to come back a few more times before feeling good about recommending it amongst all the amazing third wave coffee in Oakland.

I ordered a medium cold brew, with light ice. This is my order everywhere - because you get more coffee if there’s less ice. The Barista at The Caffe by Mr Espresso said, in complete seriousness, “would you like to pay an extra $1 to top off your cold brew?” I stared blankly. “What?” I asked. “If you order the drink with light ice, we won’t fill the cup all the way up to give you extra coffee. You have to pay an extra dollar for it.” This is how civilizations end. This is also how I learned to never return to The Caffe by Mr Espresso.
