Marston's Pasadena Reviews
After a short wait we were seated on the patio. The service, waitress, and food were excellent. The portions are so large that we split our French toast. We also had a side of 3 large sausages which were delicious. The photo shows half the order on each plate. Only negative, it was noisy between loud conversations and street noise.
How many ways and languages can u say yummy!? We’re so glad to have found this quaint little cottage like place to eat breakfast. It’s quiet compared to other “loud” joints and the food is OUTSTANDING! Main items were the eggs Benedict, delicious French toast and you can’t miss the Macadamia nut pancakes. Loved everything about this place and you will too! 🙆🏻♀️
Had a lovely Sunday morning breakfast while visiting during Heritage Weekend in November. It was a pleasant and easy walk from the Marriott where we stayed. We were able to dine on the front porch and both my friend and I enjoyed our meals. The coffee was outstanding! Our service was just fine, we never felt neglected or ignored by our server. If I were to travel to Pasadena again in the future, I would certainly return for another meal.
Very friend ly,Cozy place and the food is great.
Stopped by before heading back to AZ. Really good food. Our family of 10 enjoyed it. Breakfast was very delicious. Coffee was very strong. Parking was difficult. Friendly staff. Seated within 10 minutes.
Cute breakfast/lunch spot in Pasadena. Good food and generous portions. Staff is friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!!
We LOVE Marston's and go there every week! The food is fresh, and everything is wonderful, from the California omelet to the tri-tip sandwich & fish tacos... the unique sides, like the cheese popovers that come with salads, are a special treat! The staff are all friendly and helpful... most have worked there for years. The baklava the owner makes... fabulous!
The food was delicious! The works french toast was amazing!!!!!
I went to have breakfast with my daughter. Place is more of a breakfast spot. Nice small litlle secluded. But I enjoyed it, the food was amazing! I had two sunny side eggs with potatoes, and sausage and some toast.
Great American Diner close to city hall. They offer great breakfast options as well as healthy option for those of us watching the calories. We were attended by Tiffany who made sure to answer our questions and even gave us change for the parking meters(we parked on the street). The staff maintained my coffee cup full and it tasted great! Recommend the chili with all the toppings and the pulled pork sandwich was a hit
Hidden Gem! I had one of the best quaint breakfast experiences I’ve ever had here. I got the pulled pork benedict and it’s SERIOUSLY good! The potatoes are awesome too, they have great seasoning and flavor. Everything here was great. The staff was tentative, the order to table time was great, and I couldn’t have had a better breakfast that day. They have outdoor front and side dining, as an alternative to indoors. Clean Bathroom, clean restaurant.
Such a cozy restaurant. We discovered it on a doctors appointment and now we go there often. Great flavor and healthy portions. A little bit for everyone, really recommend.
I love the flourentine eggs benedict here. staff is friendly, I like all the art they have displayed from (afaict local) artists. I think it's kind of a hidden gem, a little out of the way from most of old town. They get busy on weekends but I've never had to wait long for a table.
I ate here for lunch. It was great! I had the cordeira salad and it was excellent. Good sized portion and great flavors. The sweet potato fries were also excellent. Highly recommend! My food order took awhile to come out, but the server kept me updated - there was apparently a really large carry out order that they were filling. I appreciated that the server checked in with me regularly and let me know what was going on.
It is a great Sunday breakfast place with great variations on the traditional breakfast. Special was Lobster Eggs Benedict and describes it succinctly. All the regular fare as well. Converted house gives it a B&B feel. Servers are friendly and quite good at their craft. Portions are large and you can easily take half home if you eat light.
Enjoyable homemade potatoes, 2 eggs over easy, turkey patty and all grain pancakes. Was very delightful. Coffee is a little pricey, it's not bad and it's not farmers restaurant coffee, which is the best. Overall, everything else was great. Nice old home style ambiance. Would recommend to others.
Very, Very good food and service. Very cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend Marston's.
Marston's is the choice when getting breakfast in Pasadena. A decades old best of Pasadena institution. This breakfast has feuled missions to Mars, Deep Space discovery, and more than a few Hollywood productions. If you didn't go, you'd never know. I had the crusted French toast with berries and pecans, a pair of eggs, and some spectacular fresh squeezed OJ. My son went for the pulled pork and was thrilled to have it. Put Marston's on your list of must dine locations. They deserve it and so do you.
The special was a Lobster Eggs Benedict and I think it was the best Benedict I’ve ever had. I was here maybe 15 years ago and need to remember this place for fantastic breakfast! Easy to park on a Monday morning at 10:30A.
The food is good but I emphasize the bad service from Marisol a older waitfress who stated "Why are we being so difficult," while making eyes at my father, she was rude to my mom who is a senior citizenwho just came from chemotherapy, because she made a mistake.
I took my Mom here last week after her eye appointment,it was both our first time here. It was so cute kinda like a cottage type place you would never imagine it in this location. Parking is not the best but that's usual. I loved the atmosphere, loved the reviews, loved the diversity, prices are the norm for these days. Food selection is great, service is great, inside and outside dining. We both had something to eat we never had so I loved that. If you live in Pasadena check it out or up for a trip it's worth it. Enjoy. I had an omelette with hollandaise sauce and my mom had a tuna melt but so different than normal.
Marston's is a cute breakfast joint. The restaurant is in a small cottage and serves a variety of American foods. We had French toast, eggs, and omelettes which were all delicious. There is a waiting list outside on the sidewalk that you can add your name to. Be warned that there isn't a lot of space, in both the parking lot and the restaurant expect to be packed like sardines. But the food is great so it's worthwhile.
You can never go wrong with a Saturday breakfast at Marston‘s Cali omelet (cooked well) Corn Flake French toast w/ berries - 1/2 Pictured because sharing is caring. Excellent service, indoor and outdoor seating. The berries were nice and plump because who likes mushy berries? The omelette was delicious the potatoes were seasoned well and the avocado was fresh. Who could ask for anything more? #Longweekend
While visiting Pasadena to see old family friends we wanted to try a new food destination and Marston's was excellent. The old cottage is now a wonderful dining room with an adjoining outdoor covered area for additional seating. The menu is extensive from sandwiches to salads and the service was superb. Parking can be sometimes tricky but give yourself extra time for the food is definitely worth it. GH
A family favorite restaurant for breakfast for years. My go to meal is the chilli omelette. I also love their tempura battered salmon with a side of sweet potato fries and cole slaw. Marston's is a quaint cottage setting with paintings of scenic landscapes and forals adorning their walls. There is seating inside, on the porch, or side tent. The people are friendly and the service is consistly exceptional. It's a charming place for a meal. Parking may be limited, but I never have a problem.
Great place for breakfast! It's a small place so it gets packed. I recommend going early. Been there a couple of times and the wait for two to three people is usually about forty minutes to an hour. It is definitely worth the wait thou! The French Toast is amazing!! Food taste fresh! The parking is very limited and tight.
Whether you need to do breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they have plenty of options for you to choose from. They offer both indoor and bar dining options to let their customers choose based on their preferences. I mainly prefer indoor dining as it gives me peace of mind.
This small gem is fantastic. The food is amazing and service was as well. I just wish they were open longer hours.
We really loved the vibe of this place — it felt warm, cozy, and easy to settle into. I ordered the blackened salmon wrap and it was honestly amazing. The salmon was flavorful with just the right amount of seasoning, and everything inside the wrap tasted fresh and well balanced. It ended up being one of those meals that feels light but still really satisfying. If you’re looking for a chill spot with good energy and great food, this place is definitely worth checking out.
The food is amazing, such a wholesome breakfast and service is top notch. Busy place, but we were felt welcome throughout - i loved their effortless coordination from kitchen to the tables
Great breakfast menu selection. I had a Denver omelet that was exceptional. I would recommend Marston's as a need to go place. I'm planning on trying the Huevos Rancheros next time. Lots of the other patron were talking about their French toast options, need to try that too. Definitely recommend a visit to Marston's
First time visiting this quaint restaurant. I wanted a healthy option so I got the salad with avocado and salmon. It was delicious! There's enough there for 2 meals. My lunch mate got the Hickory Burger, which came with bacon. He enjoyed it immensely. Would love to return to try some of the breakfast items. Just a note, the cheese popovers that came before we were served our orders were pretty tasteless. I would recommend providing something else.
Lovely little hidden gem for breakfast dishes. The French toast is one of the best I’ve ever had. An absolute must-try. Update: recently visited the restaurant for Sunday brunch and decided to try some non-breakfast items. We had the regular burger, the crispy chicken sandwich, and the rio grande tuna melt. They were all great. We all especially liked the refreshing side Jicama salad. I highly recommend adding the caramelized onions and chipotle peppers to the tuna melt. I have to mention, the service was very slow. Servers were helpful and nice, just a little slow. We had to wait quite a while even though there weren’t many customers at the restaurant.
Charming cafe with excellent breakfast food! I loved the crunchy French toast with fresh fruit 😋 It is a small place but the wait isn’t usually too long. The staff are friendly and accommodating. I also enjoy looking at the art on the walls. Parking is a little tricky sometimes but it is well worth the effort. Convenient location. Will be back for more
Much better than other alternatives (like Russell's). Fantastic french toast lived up to the namesake claim: fantastic! Crunchy and sweet on the outside, chewy and sour in the inside. Nicely balanced. The maple syrup served was decent, not exactly AAA grade, but good enough. The Texas chili omlette had a nice kick. Gets you going in the morning. Just enough cheese to make it cheesy. OJ was fresh squeezed. The prices were much more reasonable than others in the area for sure. What you get here seems to be a much better deal for great taste, nice service, and clean environment.
Breakfast in Pasadena! This quaint little place is small but seems to draw a dedicated local crowd. Always a good sign of good food. Service is prompt and food drives very quickly. The omelets are all made with three eggs and plenty of feeling so if your only moderately hungry, share it with a friend. The Texas Chili omelette is amazing and you'll want the avocado and sour cream on top. we split that and decided to share the blueberry pancakes on the side but I wouldn't recommend those. Didn't really need them and the blueberry flavor was lacking. This is one that I would go back to for sure!
Great food and excellent service. The breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon and tomato is very good. Home style potatoes are where it's at. Reminds of how my grandma used to make them. The inside of the restaurant looks like an old house. Super cool! Love the front outdoor seating.
Had the fantastic French toast. Did not disappoint. 🙌 I Love it! Cute place for brunch. It was packed when we arrived so expected some delays
Food was tasty and well prepared. Cooked just right. Staff were friendly and attentive. Went on a Sunday around brunch time and it was surprisingly quiet, which was nice. No wait and not too noisy; but this might be abnormal...great place, especially if you're staying at the Marriott Courtyard, really close by and a short walk.
Come across this place and got to say not bad but could use slight improvements. The food was good, it was served quickly and overall good tasting food. The place itself is small but cozy. A bit away from other businesses, but loved the calm atmosphere. The only cons were that they messed up on 2 minor things on our order and potatoes were a bit over-seasoned. Definitely got to go back for a dish every table seem to have gotten with chili 😋
A small, very busy ( popular) spot. We had about a 10 minute wait, but the food is quite good, worth the wait. We only had eggs and pancakes, so can't comment on the other lovely offerings. The pancakes were "different "--not the fluffy kind, but tough to cut, quite chewy.
Good breakfast spot healthy options. No Avacado toast on menu made my own.
Delicious food I got the works which is 4 pieces of crispy french toast and my wife got the gorgonzola chicken sandwich. Both were yummy albeit a bit pricey. The waffles with the homemade whipped cream and pecans were divine. Service is quick and friendly just what you would want from a diner. The atmosphere is okay, it's in a cute little restored house but it's very basic.
We ate brunch here on a cold and wet Saturday. I went here with my son and his girlfriend. We consider ourselves foodies and arrived after a morning hike...with hungry appetites. Place was crowded with a short wait. Parking was very limited, but luckily found the only spot open and close to the entrance. Service was quite good...speedy, attentive and accurate. Food ranged from AMAZING to good. We ordered 5 dishes for 3 people. Amazing: French Toast with the works. It was our appetizer :) Possibly the best I've had. Perfectly cooked, fresh and flavorful fruit, quality syrup and ingredients. Great: Homemade chili. Ordered some to taste and share. Your basic hearty chili like mom used to make. Very good: Crabcake Benedict. Giving this a very good although sampling at the table resulted in one "OK" and an "eww" accompanied by a look of disgust. What was great...the eggs and muffins were perfectly cooked. Great hollandaise sauce. Country potatoes were savory and nicely grilled. The crabcakes were the issue. Mostly flavorful and tasty....however there were small portions that had a nasty seafood flavor. I like seafood and this was my dish. My brunch mates not so much and I did concur it could have been better. Good: Huervos Rancheros. Nothing special just as expected. Good: Californian Omelet. Great ingredients, however it was a bit overcooked (browned and crusty exterior) Coffee was very good and amply refreshed. Would give 5 stars if all dishes were Very Good or better.
Definitely one of the most popular breakfast restaurants in all of Pasadena. It’s very laid-back and you feel as if you are eating inside someone’s home. The wait times are never as long here as some other restaurants close by but also it’s not the best option in town. Russell‘s, a few blocks away, is the best breakfast in Pasadena in my opinion, but Marston’s is still worth visiting. They have an extremely tiny and narrow parking lot with free parking otherwise it will be street parking. They have a fairly large menu filled with a lot of good options and our server was very polite. Inside is not very large and just has table seating, there is not a counter. The food here is good, but not great. For my first visit I chose the special - Crab Cake Benedict and thought it was just OK. The crabcakes did not have as much flavor as I had recently and I really did not enjoy the side of potatoes. I would suggest offering hashbrowns instead. I also felt it was a bit overpriced for what we got in return and honestly I don’t think I would visit again given the other breakfast options close by.
Enjoyed the patio seating in the morning, was more calm and quiet having seen how crowded it was inside. I enjoyed my omelette very much. I did try a bite of the pulled pork eggs Benedict, not much flavor there. They do have their own parking lot, but it’s very small. There is some street parking available. Wasn’t aware of the 3% surcharge for using a credit card.
We celebrated our friend’s birthday at Marston's restaurant in Pasadena, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The ambiance exuded a classic American fair vibe, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The star of the show was undoubtedly the amazing salmon sandwich – perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. However, the real showstopper was the bread pudding. It's no exaggeration to say that it's the best bread pudding I've ever had, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture and a heavenly combination of flavors. The service was exceptional, with the staff being attentive and accommodating throughout the meal. The fact that there are ample parking spaces on the side was a pleasant surprise, making the whole experience even more convenient. In summary, Marston's restaurant in Pasadena is a gem for lovers of great American fair food. The outstanding salmon sandwich and divine bread pudding, along with the attentive service and convenient parking, make it a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.
A great place for breakfast! I had buttermilk pancakes with a side of potatoes. Very good. My mom ordered a side of sausage and eggs with her pancakes which were very good as well! The atmosphere and location is what makes this place special though. Just a short walk from Old Town Pasadena.
Such a cute little place in Pasadena. The restaurant has a parking lot (small) and street parking that’s metered between 11am and 2 pm. We had a nice big table for our large group. The waitress was very nice and took our orders and also gave us separate checks - make sure you check your bill as we had an auto TIP included. I ordered the French toast plain but you can also have it with the works for an additional $4.50. It is made with a cornflake crust and very tasty. My bill was $24 for a regular coffee and French Toast. Someone else ordered the huevos rancheros. It is not that visually appetizing as it is smothered in beans. Taste was okay. Most dishes we ordered came with toast or potatoes. Very simple foods reminds me of an old fashioned diner.
We ordered the fantastic French toast, pulled pork Benedict, and ciabatta breakfast sandwich. Of the three, the sandwich was the only item we were satisfied with. The pulled pork Benedict could have been good, but in general we found it bland and strangely wet. The French toast just tasted too deep fried. Coffee was great, server was very friendly.
Great food, but if you want your eggs a certain way, or your choice of side, make your own at home. They ask, but sometimes they'll ignore your choices and make whatever they want. Awful service last time I went. Have you ever had a server say "yes okay" to your choice of bread, side, eggs, whatever... And then give you something different? Then when you mention it they go "oh we don't serve that"? Why did you say yes when I asked for it then?? That's one out of maybe 3 things that they messed up on with our very small table while I was there. Major attitude/rudeness problem too, but that's subjective to each person i suppose.
Staff was the best part of my stay there. Breakfast couldve been a lot better but what can you do. It's my second time attending and the first time I had the chili omelette needed salt and I understand Chili can be from a can but don't say made fresh daily if it isn't. The second time I just got something simple eggs toast chicken sausages and (special potatoes) there wasn't anything special about the potatoes. It actually had no seasoning. And technically they are called country potatoes hence the peppers and onions. Also I got the Italian Chicken sausage they were huge also with no seasoning and just warmed up in like a microwave or flat top but used no oil, not even grill marks on them to indicate that they were cooked. I asked for a side of apple wood bacon it was good. My server was the best latina working. She was helpful and efficient and funny. We tipped her . I wished we could've tipped for the food too. Also the prices were pretty high for 2 ppl we paid almost 66$ and both of us got the " just and egg plate" with a side of 2 pancakes for one. Expensive to know that I won't be back for that food for that price.
We had breakfast here I had an Omelette it was ok... I had a bite of waffle and that was good, although it comes with a scoop of sour cream I thought it was whipped cream so I got a spoonful yikes I opted out of that combo! No pictures sorry! The restaurant is small and the tables are tight. We went on Sunday around 11 am and you have to write your name on the list bc it's first come first serve, The wait was 10 minutes tops. There is a parking lot and street parking as well.
I went for brunch with my husband and three children aged 7, 4, and 1. The restaurant atmosphere was very nice, and we ate outside on the patio -- they quickly moved tables around to accommodate us outside as we requested. The food was average and the coffee below average, and I was unpleasantly surprised by the cost. It was nearly $80 US for middling diner fare -- very overpriced! But a nice place if money is no object.
Food quality was whatever. No flavor!! Side potatoes were not even fully cooked. It said people say “tasty food” but no!!! We asked utensils didn’t even give us any nor any condiments we requested that was stated in the receipt too stapled on our brown bag!!! Staying at a hotel near by we had to go downstairs to cafe to get what we asked for. Maybe the food would taste better if you eat at the location. Not a delivery type of a food
This place serves classic American food, best known for their breakfast and lunch. Their French toast is quite famous. The menu has not changed much in the last few years . My California omelette was delicious but came out really oily. The potatoes were also oily and were not evenly cooked. So sad about the quality of the food today.
The food is ok, but the ingredients are not super fresh, our waitress was nice but there was only two waitresses in the restaurant and they don't like each other they were fighting, giving each other looks. Was a very uncomfortable situation to be in watch and experience. Definitely won't go back
We used to come here often, but it seems like the quality has fallen. We came for brunch today, and everything from service to food quality was less than stellar. Is it under new management? If it is, they need to fix things. My old review was five stars. I ordered the pulled pork benedict. It's usually great, but the toast was completely soaked, and the pork was not very flavorful. My child ordered chocolate chip pancakes, and they were more like crepes with a few chips melted on top. The server left the check and forgot all about us. We had to take the inside, and she seemed upset that we did and snatched it out of our hands. She was nice up to that point, but it was a terrible way to leave.
The restaurant management lied to us multiple times. We went on New Year’s Day to eat before going to the rose bowl. It was busy (to be expected). We ordered quickly and they told us it would take 20-30 minutes because the kitchen was running behind. It was alright with us. After 45 minutes they said the food was coming soon. After an hour, they said it would be there in 5 minutes. After an hour and 10 minutes, we told them we needed to leave if the food wasn’t there in 5 minutes. They said it would be ready in 2. When we went to check another 5 minutes later, it turns out they hadn’t even started our food. By this time, the restaurant was empty because just about everyone had been told the same lies and given up. The restaurant should have been prepared; the rose bowl happens every year. But sometimes things happen and I get that. But if things are going wrong, you cannot lie to your customers. If there is an hour wait for food, say so. Don’t say food will be ready in 2 minutes if you haven’t started it. Don’t string people along. Everything that happened was forgivable except the blatant lying.
