Sur Playa del Carmen Reviews
Price, quality, and the overall dining experience are naturally connected, but when it comes to cuisine at a truly elevated level, price should never be the deciding factor. What truly matters is technique, consistency, ingredient integrity, and a clear culinary vision. This is exactly where Latitud 10 distinguishes itself. Over several visits on different days, my family and I had the opportunity to experience a variety of dishes, and the results were consistently outstanding. Depth of flavor, balance, presentation, ingredient quality, and technical execution were exceptional. Every plate felt intentional and precise, with thoughtful composition, proper seasoning, and a clear respect for the product. This level of cooking immediately signals a very high standard and naturally leads you to wonder who is behind the kitchen. The atmosphere is elegant yet genuinely warm, combining refinement with the natural charisma and hospitality Costa Rica is known for. It feels elevated without being rigid, and sophisticated without losing comfort, which enhances the experience as a whole. Service deserves special recognition. The attention is truly excellent, never scripted or forced, and clearly not driven by gratuity expectations. Every interaction feels natural, professional, and thoughtful, with remarkable attention to detail from arrival to departure. It is service that quietly supports the experience rather than trying to perform it. We also had the pleasure of greeting the chef personally and taking a moment to thank and congratulate him for such an exquisite experience. That encounter naturally led me to learn more about the person behind the kitchen, because food at this level does not come from just any chef. The chef leading the culinary vision is Erick Agüero, whose work is described by the W Costa Rica Reserva Conchal as being deeply rooted in the vibrant flavors and traditions of Costa Rican cuisine. Anyone interested can easily find more information about his background. While reading reviews, it became clear that there is a contrast between older feedback and more recent experiences. Learning that Erick has been leading this kitchen for only the past few months helps explain that difference. I cannot speak to the experience prior to his arrival, but what is being delivered today reflects a precise, honest, and highly refined level of cooking. This is not a place to judge food through the lens of what is familiar or predictable. To truly appreciate this cuisine, one must momentarily set aside the simple and routine, because there is no real point of comparison. This is a thoughtful and intentional culinary experience, not a place to eat out of habit. If possible, I strongly recommend experiencing it firsthand and confirming that Erick is the chef leading the kitchen. What is being served here operates at the highest level. It is the kind of restaurant that makes you want to return regardless of distance, and without exaggeration, it feels worthy of the highest culinary recognition.
Absolutely a must in the dining experience. Incredible food and service. Can't wait to come back for the 7 course dining experience.
I don't understand how this place doesn't have a higher rating. The restaurant is good. My wife and I had the all inclusive package so the pricing wasn't a factor for us (the place is expensive so if that's being calculated into people's reviews then I guess). We tried a few of the dishes a la carte and the five course tasting. The short rib was tender and succulent. I also enjoyed the pork bao. The servers could be more attentive but overall I'm happy with what I got.
I honestly don't know how this place does not have 5 stars. The food is absolutely phenomenal, and the service matches it. I have a gluten intolerance, and not only did our server, Sam, look out for me but the CHEF and manager came out to discuss desserts and made me something off menu that was delectable! We came here a second night, wondering if the first night was just a fluke and a product of us being happy on vacation. We were quickly proved wrong as we continued to be wowed with different food choices. Everything from the silverware and wine glasses to the food presentation is stellar. Sam is friendly, experienced and a joy to have as a server. The only bad thing about this place is that I will likely never be able to eat here again as I'm from the US (on vacation). Do yourself a favor: make a reservation and then prepare yourself for an amazing culinary experience.
What a great experience. The food and service were exceptional. You must try this spot if in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. It is pricey but worth it. As our waiter was on point.
Excellent food!!
4.5 stars. Some of the reviews aren't fair. Yes there is some truth that it's overpriced and not mind blowing. However everything at the W is overpriced. We opted for the a la carte menu and shared items. There are some really good items like the spring rolls and rice paper rolls. Also the Thai Laksa was excellent. Most of all the service was excellent from our host, servers, etc.
Great restaurant great food. Shame they allow kids. This is a VERY expensive exclusive restaurant and allowing screaming kids spoils everybody’s special evening. We have eaten Thai food all over the world and whilst this was very good it was not worth the price tag.
We went for dinner and were utterly disappointed by the quality and taste of the food. The chef has a very narrow understanding of what Thai food is and how to integrate it with Costa Rican flavours. It was probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever had, too sweet and full of add combinations. Skip it!
Service was great. Food was not good for being “the best restaurant in Costa Rica” portions are also very small for how expensive it is
Wore men’s closed toe dress sandals with dress shirt and slacks and was told only could wear dress shoes or sneakers and turned away. Policy for men are no tank tops and must wear closed toe shoes. T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers allowed. Need to update dress code policy to accurately state what they require or train employees what closed toe means. Call themselves fine dining but allow men in t-shirts, shorts, and sneakers and turn away people dressed to the fine dining standard. Told wife on a good note based upon reviews we probably got off easy by not being allowed to eat in their dennys at the prices they are charging. Saved us a pretty penny.
Avoid. Super expensive, food is blah and no atmosphere.
Lat10’s 7-Course Tasting Menu: A $140 Lesson in Culinary Failure Let me save you $140 per person and several hours of your life: DO NOT EAT HERE. Lat10’s 7-course tasting menu is a scam wrapped in fancy plating and delivered with the confidence of a restaurant that has no idea how bad its food actually is. We spent the entire meal alternating between laughter and disbelief at how absurdly terrible each dish was. By the end, we were genuinely reminiscing about microwaved airport food—because it was better than this. Let’s break it down, course by course: THAI STYLE SHRIMP CROQUET – Rubber Ball in Disguise If I threw this across the restaurant, it would bounce back into my hand. Either it sat in the window for an hour, or the chef has discovered a way to make shrimp taste like overcooked calamari mixed with Styrofoam. Absolutely inedible. ROLLO TRANSPARENTE – Edible Bathroom Air Freshener Imagine drinking water while someone sprays floral air freshener directly into your face. That’s the flavor profile of this dish. I have no idea why this exists. I’m genuinely concerned that no one at this restaurant has tasted their own food. The sauce was good? PAN SEARED BEEF LOIN WITH QUINOA – Tofu Has More Flavor Beef is supposed to have flavor. How did they manage to make it taste like... absolutely nothing? If you told me I was eating textured soy protein, I would have believed you. The quinoa only added to the punishment, as if we needed more bland, dry elements on the plate. GRILLED OCTOPUS WITH SAMBAL – The One Dish We Refused to Eat This was so bad that we immediately sent it back. The texture? Like biting into a rubber hose. The flavor? Best described as "fish food"—and I don’t mean seafood. I mean the little flakes you feed to pet fish. If you enjoy eating over-salted rubber, then congratulations, this dish is for you. SWEET EXPERIENCE DESSERT – The Bare Minimum It’s sugar. They somehow didn’t mess this one up. A miracle, really. But after what we endured before this, I would have preferred a slice of grocery store cake over whatever "experience" they were trying to create. Final Verdict: A Restaurant That Cares Only About Plating, Not Flavor Lat10 is the definition of style over substance. Every dish looked great—but tasted like something an intern cooked in their first week on the job. The price tag is outrageous for food this bad. Worst meal I've ever had.
