Restaurante La Isla Progreso Reviews
This restaurant falls into the "Unique Family Restaurant" category, as it's run by a family as their primary source of income and their only location. It features a palapa-style facade, a seafood-themed atmosphere with music, and murals dedicated to the Canadian community of Progreso. The restaurant offers flavorful, fresh seafood, simply yet expertly prepared. The family provides warm and welcoming service. It's a place that truly embodies "the beauty of simplicity," so don't expect luxury, high-end cuisine, or elitism. That said, I give it 5 out of 5 stars because it perfectly embodies this style. Remember that by dining here, you're supporting the well-being of an entire family. Best wishes and blessings for a wonderful life.
My first time to Mexico and loved this little gem of a restaurant!!! Went back there many times throughout my stay. Loved their refried beans (what is their recipe?). Please share the recipe as I cannot find a recipe online that comes close.
Fantastic little gem. We stopped in for a light lunch and a beer. Ordered 2 drinks and within minutes we had complementary chips and 2 types,of dips to go with it. Staff at very friendly and spoke English very well. Will definitely come back again.
La Isla is a treasure. Today we had the garlic grilled fish and it was perfect! We love your restaurant. The service is wonderful and the atmosphere is relaxing. Thank you for playing soft Mexican music that isn’t too loud. Give this family run restaurant a try, you won’t be disappointed!
Smaller little restaurant located in the Chixulub Puerto area, family owned and operated. Ate there several times during my stay. Food was delicious; try the grilled snapper and the garlic shrimp; delicious. Staff was very pleasant and spoke to me in English to help me decide on what to eat. Very fresh, Very delicious.!
Excellent place to eat with the family. They have a seafood-based menu, but that doesn't detract from how delicious the food is. The only downside I see is the limited drink selection; they only offer the typical standard restaurant drinks. Also, the restrooms are a bit neglected. Aside from that, the staff/owners are friendly and courteous.
This is a hit an miss place. Overall I support little local restos, thus 5* for the food and experience. So I have been there 3 times. 2 times the order was mixed. You have to speak Spanish actually. 1 time the fried fish was phenomenal (grouper). 2nd time it wasn't fresh (snapper). 3rd time it was ok. Yet they serve you free entrees with different dips and these are to die for. Fried meat, fish, guacamole, bean spread - always yummy! Shrimp cocktail is pretty much shrimps in clamato. Garlic fish is yummy. Breaded pork is a no go. Yet the whole little resto is a definite must visit. Share your experience, support locals!
Excellent food. Very good price. Great service.
Excellent food Perfect service Reasonable price
Too fine.
Great seafood! Basic menu and great prices! Service is excellent with great people
Fantastic service. We were quickly part of the family and the food was prepared as for very special guests!! Delicious. Try their limonadas too! Sparkling fresh squeezed limeade!! We had the shrimp stuffed fish and guacamole and they were fantastic. Their French fries are delicious too, and our friend had breaded shrimp and yummy!!
This is a friendly restaurant where you can get good food along with great service. I had the garlic chicken and was very happy.
Good guacamole, delicious pina colada, we had shrimp cocktails, fish soup and fried whole fish. Small family place, good prices.
An update. It used to be really nice, but the food quality and quantity has diminished although very friendly. So it used to be a restaurant well worth going to it's now just okay! ------------------------- Really nice. Really good food, friendly service and very moderate prices. Well worth going to.
The shrimp in garlic sauce were very good. The shrimp were tender. I don't recommend the spaghetti with shrimp. It's instant pasta with the seasoning that comes in the package. Again, the shrimp were very good, cooked to perfection, but the pasta is definitely something I wouldn't order again. It's a quiet, relaxing place. They gave us mashed beans and guacamole as appetizers, both very good. It took a while to bring the food.
New owners... terrible! It used to be worth visiting but now, avoid.
It's already run down, dirty place. I went at 1 pm on a Saturday, and they didn't even have cold drinks or ice. It's a shame.
