Dog Day Afternoon Prospect Park West Reviews
Great for the Chicago Dog and Italian Beef experience when you’re missing it. We also had the kielbasa dog and chili dog both of which were also fantastic. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by, if you’re somewhere else in the city, make the journey.
Legit Chicago dogs in NYC. The sport peppers are real and the tomatoes are sliced. Physically it's just a cute little hot dog stand, but there's a few outdoor seats. Recommended.
Honestly, these are the best hot dogs in all of New York. The bun, the sausage, the mix of flavors, the way they’re prepared… everything is truly on another level. The person who served us —I imagine he’s the owner— was super friendly. You can really tell when people put passion into what they do. Highly recommended!
Dog Day is a truly special place and the reason I moved to the neighborhood. I otherwise consider myself a vegetarian of 8 years. These hot dogs are divine any time of the year, but here’s my advice: On a crisp fall day, don’t eat until 2pm. Have two Chicago dogs and a milkshake, then walk through the park. A cure-all. Last October I had a great conversation with a zombie witch who shared my table. It told me to always, always answer when I hear the hot dogs calling. Sometimes I hear the dog’s call ringing through Greenwood Cemetery treetops at night and I have to wait up all night in a cold sweat praying for noon to arrive.
We came here after a long walk and boy did this hit the spot. We got the Chicago dog along with the pulled pork special. Everything was delicious and made with quality ingredients. Would highly recommend if you’re hungry and nearby. There’s not much seating but we were able to get a few chairs outside. Looking forward to coming back!
Honestly, I’ve longed for a good hotdog for a long time, most stands don’t really do justice to my taste buds nor my appetite, but this place has fantastic dogs! I’ve literally went from skeptical to huge fan. High quality, delicious dogs, and I’m proud to say that I’ve tried half the menu. Chicago is my fave so far, and i’m planning to try their Jambalaya next. Really nice owners too, and they care a lot about their customers. Best dogs that I’ve ever had. If you’ve read this far, they also have shakes and a cool free to play arcade with 100+ old school games too.
Excellent hotdog joint near Prospect park. We ordered one Chicago dog and one Chilli dog. Both were great. I have to point out that you can actually taste the meat in their sausages- it means that sausages are of high quality. Guy who prepared for us hotdogs was really friendly, helpful and whats more he gave us some chips free of charge. When you’re close by be sure to visit.
I had been dreaming about the juicy, crunchy hot dog for quite some time now and finally today, just before the looming storm decided to make a trek across the park to the Dog Day Afternoon. It turned out to be one of those make you feel good places where it feels like you’ve been visiting for ages and owner is your old buddy. I went for a Polish Chicago dog which didn’t disappoint and definitely made me want to come back to try all the other options. I only wish they had beer along their wieners. Thank you and see you soon!
If you have to read this, stop right now and GO HERE. I've searched all over NYC for a good hot dog, but these are the BEST hands down. Not only that, but seriously legit Chicago hot dogs. Perfect no frills place with the classic red/yellow umbrella outfront. Arcade game inside for the kids. Seating outside. Juicy Vienna dogs with a little snap/pop when you wrap your mouth and bite into it. Traditional poppy seed bun neon relish, hot peppers down to the celery Salt (*CHEF'S KISS*). The chili dog has a little spice to it and is generously coated with chili. Fries are crispy with solid flavor. Italian beef is also legit! Soaked in the jus, or get it in a cup to dip into and drink. Like a sandwiches own birria. And for those of you not down for the meat, there's even vegetarian options! Happy to find a little piece of Chicago here. Stop reading already and goooooooo!
I LOVE this place. Excellent service, amazing fresh food, and fun vibes. Me and my partner just moved to this neighborhood, and the workers went out of their way to get to know our names. We feel so welcome. They say hi to us every time we pass. Not to mention, the hot dogs are INCREDIBLE. Also their fries have no business being that good! Get the fries. Underrated menu item. I personally love the chili dog. There is something so warm, fun, retro, and cozy about this place that is perfect at any time of the season. No matter the weather, it’s always a good experience at Dog Day. We love the people that work there. They are just so nice. It’s also super well priced. They also have this little reward system where you have a stamp card for every dog you get that eventually leads you to getting a free hot dog! Super fun. They also sometimes sell comics and records as well, it’s a really unique aspect to the whole place. It’s a small area, you can only eat outside but that’s totally fine bc it’s such a vibe on the benches and tables they have set up. We pass it every day and are tempted to go in and eat one every time. The smell is immaculate. Go here, you will not regret it! ❤️🌭
As someone from Chicago I thought the Chicago hot dog was really good, the only thing I was missing was the steamed bun.
