Gracie's Rochester Reviews
Highest quality food I've ever eaten in my life. By far. Period.
Very large open and clean venue, not much food available for a buffet
Excellent dining service and wide varieties of food at an affordable rate! Only offers bufffet
If you don't eat here often, not too bad. Lots of options and they try to mix it up.
They cooked my pork just how I like it - medium rare.
The best place to eat all kind of food Best services and good atmosphere
Best dining options for a student in pocket fit rates.
Not food for everyday going. Good to visit once in a while
One of the better college cafeterias our family had experienced. Great variety, even has visiting chefs come in from around the area
GREAT food... Very clean and nice staff. I can send my son to college and know he will have decent and nutritious food to eat.
The only diner on RIT campus serving an 'all you can eat' buffet for $8.50 ($10 for dinner).
All you can eat buffet for 10 usd. Good for students and value for money.
Great for freshmen who want a lot for their dollar. It's possible to eat healthy here although it may not seem like it.
Great for the hungry freshman after a long day of class, you can order as much food as you want.
Honestly, Covid dining is great. $6 for all you can eat, is too good to pass up. I started going to Gracies for about 15+ years, dad works on campus, and then later i went to school here. I would say the quality of gracies has improved tenfold. Highly recommend the custom pasta with alfredo sauce and the tomato/basil soup.
Gracies is an amazing place to get food, like Everyone I see always goes there daily cause The choices are amazing and healthy! Out of all options not a single one is bad, and Underneath the tables I didn't find a single Tangy piece of gum. Everything is clean. Whenever I feel hungry even if I'm far away I Hurry over to Gracies ASAP for their selections. I don't think there was a day I didn't eat there Like I dont understand why you shouldn't!? My Empty stomach can only be filled at Gracies. You and all your friends should go to Gracies. Out of all food places Gracies is king. I wake Up every day going there for breakfast <3 Can you eat there after your first year? Yes, you Absolutely can and should. $8.25 is so worth it No other place is cheaper. Gracies is the best.
Not bad!! I worried about what my daughter was going to eat at school, but this was well rounded choices. Fast food stuff, salads, fruit, ice cream and some other dinner choices too. I think it was one price for all you can eat also. (I was there 6 months ago)
It's the biggest restaurant in RIT, has many options. Friendly people. Nice tsaste.
Food is pretty mid at best, the Gracie’s sauce is pretty good though
For campus food its not to bad but it does get tiresome after a little while
Good Buffet for college students. Some times there are visiting chefs (mostly from Indian restaurant) 10 bucks and you are set to get in. Try it out
It is a buffet style dining hall in which they change their serving options daily. The food is normally pretty good, but there have been some bad days.
Updated menu is pretty good. They've put in a lot of effort to revamp their recipes. Give it another shot!
Amazing food, wish they go back to All you can eat food court, the renovations are really good! However the service is slow
Gracies can sometimes be disappointing. But they have the best chicken nuggets on the entire campus!
Went here to experience a bit of RIT student life here with a co-worker. Food was pretty solid and staff was friendly.
Honestly, it's a very good place if you are an employee/Rit student seeking on campus. But the 4 star is because of the fact that food doesn't have a vast variety and moresover you may not like specific sections at all, hence you'll not be having a lot of choices to make.
Decent food for cheap. Usually crowded yet the food doesn't run out. Plenty of options including vegan food. Staff is nice because I went there and asked for a vegetarian wrap of which later I asked to add bacon and they double checked with me to see if I actually am vegetarian. Kind people.
It has a variety of options to choose from, always a salad bar and fresh fruits. Many different drink options. They also don't notice when you steal utensils, plates, or bowls. (and they have 16 options of ice cream)
Gracie's is a relatively good college food cafeteria. Their breakfasts are always very good and the dinners are usually very filling. Occasionally, they will serve something that just does not tastes right. Definitely recommend if you just want to get consistantly pretty good meals on the RIT food plan. Also, very good about allergies.
This is a pretty long review, but it has a lot of important information for freshman at RIT. Gracie’s is an All-you-care-to-eat cafeteria, which is what makes it really nice, assuming you know what to get. A lot of people say this place is really bad, but the food has gotten better in 2024, and if you know what to get, you can actually have a decent experience here. The foods I recommend are: Waffle, Burger, Fruits/Vegetables, Ice cream, Pizza (sometimes), Cereal, Drinks. For all food, check to make sure it’s cooked properly. I have gotten undercooked food (pizza in particular) in the past. If it’s undercooked, you can get something else in the meanwhile, and maybe try again 15 or so minutes later. If you don’t want to run the risk of undercooked food, then avoid meat options and stick with waffles, fruits/veggies, cereal, drinks, and ice cream. Also, never get omelettes or scrambled eggs here; they are really bad. Note that when using the waffle irons, there is a potential hazard; only hold by the black handle covers. DO NOT TOUCH the metal part of the handle. It may look safe, but it is scorching hot and can give second degree burns. If you are getting ice cream, I recommend getting a napkin to wipe down the scooper. Overall, this place is somewhat bland, but the fact that it is all you care to eat makes it worth it. The only time I got mildly sick was when I got ramen which was undercooked. For Freshmen, I would recommend buying the Roar meal plan, not the Roar Plus, since you get more dining dollars and less Gracie’s meals, and there are better places to eat on campus than RIT, especially Beanz and The Shumway Commons.
Note: You need an RIT ID to dine here Food is average, but the buffet style is nice. One of the most expensive places on campus for a single meal. Try not to eat here too much, you will probably get very tired of it
Great staff. The food is pretty good. They have so many options to choose from. Their cheese fries are the BEST. It's buffet style so you can eat as much as you want for as long as you want. Overall, Gracie's is one of the best places to eat on campus
All you can eat. Will bore you soon if you study at RIT
Buffet style eating is good, but the food quality isn't the greatest. Generally crowded.
Food was decent and well made. The atmosphere of the locale could be better
Unless you are a first year RIT student and you are required to force yourself to come here five times a week, there is no reason to come here.
It's an ok place. Especially good if you are really hungry
Average food but is all you care to eat so that makes up for it I guess
Average food but you can get a lot of it for a low flat rate!
Decent place if you go on occasion. If you are living on campus and are on a freshman meal plan, it's recommended to get the plan with the fewest Gracie's swipes.
Sandwiches and salads taste good. I will give fives stars if rice isn't dry and there's a variety of foods.
Dodging gross or unhealthy food can be difficult, but it's possible. Overall, an underwhelming experience but an adequate food supply if you eat a lot.
It's fine if you don't have to eat here as often as you do with any of the freshman meal plans.
Gracie's has a special place of disgust in every RIT student's heart. But in moderation Gracie's isn't so bad. They're certainly not great and they're probably the worst food place on campus. However, if you eat there as little as possible freshman year and eat a variety of their offerings you'll survive and even come to like some of the items they have. What you shouldn't do is get unlimited meals here. Eat here as little as possible without wasting meals and don't stuff your face every single time because that's how you come to hate this place. Also, the biggest station for variety might be the sandwich and wraps area because you can get so many different types of bread/wraps and mix and match a lot of different meats, spreads and other things. So definitely take advantage of that!
...it's dining hall food. The Mongolian grill is always overcooked and bland, the pizza is passable at best, the only two tasty things are the French toast sticks and the chicken tenders, and there's always that one kid who eats waffles for every meal. He's gained 30lbs this semester alone. I wouldn't recommend eating here after your freshman meal plan is over.
The food is usually fine though, just some bad instances here and there. I am a vegetarian so while they were usually helpful I did once receive a frozen veggie patty from the grill section. Deli line would use the same gloves and contaminate my food. Sometimes there were no options for me and I would eat a bowl of cereal for dinner.
I guess they fooled us parents during the open house with the food provided. I thought it was great - my son who's now a student there say's it was all just for show, and its actually terrible.
Food is mediocre, but lines tend to be very long and they operate on early hours (close at 7)
Hours are bad. Food is 'okay' but extremely bland. They have very few options none are terribly healthy.
Gracies normally has terrible food. However, fall 2020 they have visiting chefs every so often who are amazing. The only upside normally is all you can eat but thats been taken away for at least Fall 2020
As much people might whine about gracies being terrible, it's meh and just food. Most of the food there will give you either diabetes or obesity. On some occasions: worms due to raw meats. They will claim they temp check everything. That's a load of bull and nothing is 100% perfect. Stay away from stuff like meat and taters, chunks of brisket, or fish - especially the fish there. Visiting chefs are your best bet! The grill will not let you down but give you freshman 15 alone. The salad bar is actually pretty good. The dessert bar needs more variety. If you're considering RIT and just happen to be looking at what they got in the store. Gracies is just something you will have but its whatever. However, there are some really good places near global and around campus.
The food is extremely mediocre. Possibly the worst place on Campus to eat, the main upside has been removed thanks to Covid, it's not a social space anymore. Still probably good to be a Gremlin and study in though!
The service was slow and I was served raw meat. They give you the portions of like a five year old, and while it is all you can eat, it gets a bit frustrating having to wait in line over and over and over again, just to get enough food.
This is an all you can eat buffet (if dining in). The food is mediocre at best, but you can definitely get full if you brave through the food. Eating too much of Gracies will do weird things to your digestive system. If you eat here once in your life, it will be great, if you eat here as a student on a meal plan... good luck.
Awful food inconvenient hours and a terrible mandatory freshman meal plan
I could fund the construction of the Salzburg fortress with the salt in their stir fry. I've found enough hairs in the food to make myself a wig.
You don't go to Gracie's, you are dragged there by the evil of the forced Gracie's swipes
Yah, if you go to RIT I'm pretty sure you understand why gracie's deserves one star.
So bad they designed the meal plans so that freshmen literally have no choice but eat here.
Food is awful.
Expensive, food is not great. People are not nice
I hope I never have to haunt Gracie's dining hall again
I love being served either raw or overcooked chicken every time I eat here.
Worst managed trash heap I've ever seen, food is okay
Every time I order it is botched or it isn’t cooked properly. Ordered a philly and the meat wasn’t even cut. Last semester I got food poisoning too. This place is a disappointment every time lol
The “food” is usually edible, if by edible you mean it can go into your mouth. It might even stay there.
Garbage overpriced buffet, literally has worse food and customer service than my highschool cafeteria. Students have coined the term "Greasie's" as a term for Gracies.
Unpleasant all around. I've got sick multiple times here already, the only reason anyone goes is that the fact they make you go. It'll mess up whatever end it comes out of.
As an RIT freshman, I'm pretty sure everyone knows why this deserves 1 star. Bad food, crappy service, and a pretty lame experience all around.
I got food poisoning many times from this place. Also always smelled like raw sewage. Would not recommend
I keep trying to give Gracie’s a chance since it’s a nice new facility, but I’m met with consistently garbage food. Genuinely the worst fried rice I’ve had in my life. I don’t understand how you can make food taste so bland and nasty. I always feel depressed after eating there because, additionally, it’s expensive and takes forever. Just go to Crossroads, Commons, or RITz.
“It can’t be that bad, it was good during the open house” DO NOT BUY THE MORE EXPENSIVE MEAL PLAN! IT GIVES LESS MONEY AND MORE GRACIES SWIPES. This place has horrible inconsistent hours, the food is not edible 90% of the time
5 pc mozzarella sticks only has 4 pieces, not freshly cooked at all (served at room temperature, not melty). Flavor is over salted and not very cheesy. Please eat somewhere else if possible. Update: I ate here again and my gums feel like they're on fire even though my chicken tenders and grilled cheese were not spicy at all. Gums are bleeding a bit.
Bad food, It is stupid that all freshmen are forced to eat there. I have 7 vomits on my Freshman year because of not-well cooked meat, old re-used food, and expired fruits. It is scary to me to go there.
The worst food you can find at RIT. The portion is huge but quality doesn't come with quantity. Staff are great but the food is an overwhelming meh. The problem is, the average food here is OVER PRICED. $10 can get me so much better stuff.
i know many people who have gotten sick here. food is bland, often undercooked, and somehow burnt at the same time. just got back from a meal there, and I'm already feeling awful. avoid at all costs.
Staff needs more training. I have gotten sick multiple times from food poisoning. They need to stop cross contaminating the food. And get different untinsils once they drop it. This is probably the last place you should get food.
Gracie's is the most mediocre food that could possibly exist. It is a sad approximation of a cafeteria. It will make you lose faith in the human race. Nothing here could be considered good. To add insult to injury, all freshmen are forced to eat here or waste money every week. It is a disgusting institution that should not exist.
Cons: I ordered a special pizza and it was all burned at the bottom side. Pros: They have ice creams vending machines with lot of ice cream options In addition to that they also have variety of soda bottles Plus they sell wide spread of flavored milk bottles
Gracie's needs to be thoroughly cleaned. There are swarms of flies (especially around the food). Also, the drink machines are outdated. Worst restaurant at RIT ever.
Not the greatest dining place on campus. Low quality food and hardly went there my first year I was there since I hated it that much. Messed up my order a few times and overall just not the greatest food.
The worst, most disgusting place ever. Health and safety should shut it down. If I wasn't forced to eat there by RIT, I wouldn't. They don't clean anything, I've had lipstick on my "clean glasses". We've found bugs in food, it is repulsing. DO NOT EST HERE IF YOU DONT HAVE TO
Every time, I kid you not, EVERY TIME I have felt sick after eating here. I have to mentally prepare myself to enter this establishment, trying to convince myself it is not as bad as I remember it. Then when I do, it turns out to be even worse than I prepared for. Absolutely rancid. I once asked for a scoop of potato salad, and the worker said "are you sure?" I should have listened. It was abhorrent. The part that pisses me the most is that RIT forces all on-campus first-years to WASTE $2,050 on this revolting place. To make this operation even more scummy, they supposedly change their menu and food quality when having open houses or family weekends, to give the impression its not as bad as it actually is. Then when the weekend is over they go back to serving hog feed. I will be giving away my Gracie's swipes for 1$ if anyone is interested.
It’s awful. Just everything about it. Also closes most stations 45 minutes early and the food safety practices are questionable at best.
I’m in the midst of stage three Gracie’s warrior depression. Every day leaves me dreading entering this building. From the soggy pizza to the charred pork, it’s overall disgusting and they force you to come here for the first two years.
Gracie's is the worst food on campus by a long shot. First, I'll start with the service. The workers aren't rude or anything by any means, (except for when they are), but whenever you ask for ANYTHING you get the smallest "portion" of food physically possible. You want some fries? Here's six. How about some pasta? Well wait 10 minutes and we'll get you like 10 hard noodles. Not only that, but you aren't even allowed to ask for more. It's not their fault I'm sure, and they're probably doing what they're told to do, but come on. It's not going to bankrupt RIT to give me a handful of Walmart fries. Gracie's workers also don't care and are very untrained. Multiple of the best spices from the spice rack have been gone for months and they haven't tried to replace them. They used to refill them all the time before they the jars mysteriously vanished, and when they did they never tried to do anything about it. And it's not like they don't notice. The spice rack is not only like half empty, but they refill the ones people still use. Don't worry though, there are maybe 20 salt and pepper shakers right next to it, and those NEVER run out. Except for when they do. Have a friend who's lactose intolerant. He was pretty happy when he saw the milk dispenser had a big sign that said "dairy free options available upon request". He asked multiple workers to which they all said "Uhhh, I don't know" and walked away. Another time a different friend of mine asked for chimichurri at the Latin bar. The worker said "Do you know which one that is? Because I don't." Outstanding service as always. Next, the food itself. Subpar at best. Everything is flavorless and cold. I remember that when I left high school and came to college I thought I would get away from cafeteria food, especially considering how much RIT costs. Gracie's is just as bad. That's really it. Food is often either very under-cooked or over-cooked. They try and ruse oncoming students during open houses by cranking the heat and adding flavor to food, but the next day it's back to it's normal awful self. Especially the mac and cheese. Open house day it's hot, cheesy, and creamy. The next day, it's cold and almost plain. Same with literally everything else. Multiple times bugs and hair have been found in the food. Super duper guys. And the worst thing? They force you to come here. Every dining plan has multiple Gracie's swipes to make up for the fact that the rest of the dining dollars they give you are not anywhere near enough to get you through the year. One of the things to help with that is the fact that everything on campus is ridiculously up-charged to help drain those dining dollars. TL:DR The food sucks and is cold, except for on open house day to trick oncoming students. The workers are very untrained and barely give you any food. They force you to come here.
The title of "Worst Food on Campus" is a difficult title to earn. I'm in my third year, and Gracies has worked hard to earn that title. I used to go there freshman year (before it was all you can eat) just to sit in the dining area. No one else was there. The food was awful and hit or miss if it was prepared correctly. To fix this issue, RIT improved the standards of Gracies. except that's a lie; they just changed the rules so incoming freshmen had to eat at gracies. I've eaten there three times in the last two years. and every time, it has been an unpleasant experience. It's bad food (except during parent weekend, when they use the good stuff) sold expensively and prepared poorly. Couple that with scummy practices that force people to go there, and you have the RIT way.
This is the worst place to eat at RIT hands down. I have only been here a few times, and every time I have eaten something from Gracie's, my it has left me with severe food poisonings. If you have to come here, only get a drink as it is the safest thing at Gracie's.
The food tastes good during open house. And then the school year starts, and it suddenly drops in quality. All of the food here tastes very bland and uninteresting. Do not choose the meal plan with more Graci's swipes; actually, if you can, don't buy any Graci's swipes at all, or very few. Go get food from the visiting chefs instead.
It gets worse every year. “Food” now either tastes of nothing or way way too much, today for my dinner I had a soup that was completely annihilated with onion and had pasta that tasted literally of nothing. Trash quality. Pasta is advertised as having new “sauces” each day but what they really mean is varying amounts of olive oil and butter. Pizza tastes like they put fake butter in it. They kept making it worse bad worse until nobody went there anymore and so now they’ve required students on campus to eat there about three times a week. Worst place on campus by far. RIT is stingy.
I’m a first year student at RIT and purposefully avoid coming here except for the fact that they make you. The food is subpar and I’ve been told it continuously worsens each year. Only good thing I’ve had here is a waffle that I made myself, similar to in a hotel. Any hotel around here would probably have better quality food than this.
Bland flavor. Pizza is both undercooked and has bits of charcoal stuck to the bottom. They serve a lot of processed foods, not much of it is cooked from fresh/raw. 4-8 flavors of ice cream included for desert. Not served here (today): salad, fruit salad, grilled burgers, fries, chicken nuggets, wraps, hot sandwiches. Consider checking the menu online before coming. At this price, it'd be only slightly cheaper than an entree at the Cheesecake Factory. There's places to get better food cheaper. All-you-care-to-eat for $17.00 (plus tax if you pay with cash or credit)
If you have a strong stomach and no dietary restrictions, go ham — just double check that your food is fully cooked cause sometimes they straight up don't cook it enough. If you do have any allergies or individual nutritional needs, good luck (especially if you're a first year). Most of the faculty don't care, and the student staff aren't educated to prevent cross contamination. Save yourself the hassle of a bad reaction and eat literally anywhere else.
Consistently undercooked and low quality, at high prices Every time I've ate here, I've gotten at least mildly sick. This latest time has broke the camel's back though; not only did they get my order wrong, but they the food was so undercooked that many I showed it to were in shock when they saw it. This double burger is beet red in the middle: this thing was on the grill for like 30 seconds TOPS. Both patties were like this. You could get the same patties for the same price, but actually cooked at any of the other dining spots on campus that offer it, or an even better burger off campus for far less.
Largely not a place I would ever recommend to anyone, but I am biased due to an allergy I have to the chemicals they use to clean the dishware. Has a large selection, and the all-you-can-eat style is very useful for those with large appetites. Once you're not a freshman, however, it is very unlikely you will ever go back.
