Salena's Mexican Restaurant Rochester Reviews
Alba is such an AMAZING waitress! absolutely so sweet and charming. She makes sure to cater to everyone! me and my friends definitely enjoyed our time and will definitely be back! Thank you so much Alba!
Salena's is incredibly accommodating in food and service. Their specific menus are so helpful when eating with a group with different dietary needs, and during our last visit they did a great job adjusting for our group that changed from 4 to 7 people at the last minute. The food is delicious and affordable.
Selena’s Restaurant has become a go to for us, especially with their impressive range of vegetarian and pescatarian dishes. We’ve tried just about all of these options, and the praise comes easy as everything is consistently delicious. They also offer gluten-free, vegan, and other specialty menus, so there’s truly something for everyone. But let’s be honest… I’m really here to talk about their margaritas. FABULOUS!!!! Their classic margarita is hands down the best I’ve ever had. Just out of this world. Well done, Selena’s. Seriously… well done.
Jessica was AMAZING!!! She was our server for my night out with my mom and her service was so attentive, thoughtful, caring, and immediate. She also kept making us laugh and became a friend by the end of the night. Truly, somebody get her a raise bc she made our night!! We’ve come here often over the years and this dinner was so wonderful largely because of her care!
Very good Mexican cuisine excellent service Jessica was very welcoming and made sure our dining experience was great and memorable and we will return !
The tofu tacos were really good and affordable. I like the happy hour special also. The service was good at the bar.

Mixed bag here tonight! Living at Selena's a bunch of times and the chips are good the case it was great our server was pretty friendly a little slow on the refills of our drinks but not so much slow it's just not paying attention. They were very generous to us and gave us a free dessert cuz it was one of our birthdays and the dessert was really good it was a fried ice cream Sundae. The place where it goes off the rails and it's not a big thing but we used to love getting their a la carta burrito. It was baked and it came with this yummy cheese an enchilada sauce on it it was fantastic and I want to say it was like eight bucks. Apparently they change their menu in January and they no longer offer it they do have a variety of $8 burritos and we did get one. It was a rolled up tortilla with open ends It was significantly smaller than what we had gotten in the past and there was an ounce of veggies and ounce of cheese and a couple ounces of meat. It was beyond disappointing especially when you compare it to what they used to have..
I am an avid Mexican food enjoyer, and I don’t think their food is anything too special. It is, however, pretty consistent, you know what you’re going to get with it, pretty average I would say. Service is usually good and atmosphere is great. Great margaritas!
I would recommend this place, at least to check out and see for yourself! Specifically, the messy Hole Mole was a good appetizer! The service was great and very timely. The food was fine, with decent cook and seasoning but just was not really memorable even if it was satisfactory.
Best burrito ever! Also, the drunken shrimp tacos were amazing! We were there late on a Saturday. Our table was a bit small for 4 of us, but that is the only complaint besides it being very hard to find. But it was worth it.
Came for lunch wasn't busy but other restaurants in the area seemed busy. Food was okay wasn't anything over the top but perfect for lunch. Felt the prices were reasonable, service was very friendly and tended to the table prompt.
The ambiance was good..the portion of food was also good..the food also tasted good except that the bean paste was kinda dry. But the wait time was quite longer..they took quite a time to server house nachos as well.. Btw..stuffed jalapeños were great..i would definitely suggest that dish if you like spicy and cheesy combo.

I had a passionfruit margarita and a half order of nachos; my partner had a neat special with the fajita platter, and we split an empanada appetizer. The salsa with the chips was on the bland side. The margarita was good but not shaken well- the syrup they used settled to the bottom. The fajita platter was the biggest disappointment. $30, not a huge amount of food, refried beans looked right out of the can, chicken and peppers were lukewarm, and the tortillas were hard. Our waitress was great, she brought fresh, hot, soft tortillas. The burrito bowl seems like it would have been a better value. Altogether it was $70... Not unreasonable for a night out, but this is the 3rd time the quality was a bit disappointing.
I got take out so this is strictly about the food. Enchiladas were flavorful and had a good spice level. The shredded beef and chicken were delicious. However the portion inside the enchiladas was just too little for the price.
Located on N. Goodman, right next to Village Gate this Mexican restaurant has a decent size menu. The atmosphere seems like it would be fun and the limited staff I spoke with were very polite. I ordered take out to eat back at S31 Lofts. When I got back to my room I was surprised that they didn't provide me with plastic ware or a napkin. I really wanted to like the food. Unfortunately the chicken in my empanada was dry and fairly flavorless. The rice looked like it has been scraped from the bottom of the pot and was on the dry side. The black beans were ok. The dessert I ordered were churros. Again, not as good as I had expected but not awful either. I would give them another chance however I would get a table and stay a while.
The service was fantastic - really attentive server who was quick to recommend dishes to try! The food was lacking - the chips had a stale, bitter taste and the margs didn't quite taste like margs.…

The atmosphere here was great, definitely get drinks here, also lovely service! But the food was not good… even for American Mexican food. It really felt like I was back at the middle school cafeteria again. Also $7 for ONE taco the size of my palm (no rice or beans as well just one taco) with that quality of food is insane. I got birria tacos and all I could taste was cinnamon, the dipping broth wasn’t even a broth it was a paste. Again I get it’s American Mexican food but at least try for authenticity, that’s just disrespectful. I genuinely felt like I was getting pranked.
So im not sure what happened, my wife and I went here for her bday dinner and it was horrible. I got the Mexican flag and only ate a few bites, and my wofe got a rice bowl and the was maybe a spoon full of rice, the waitress was nice but was all over place, even tho it wasn't busy. The food was dry and no flavor. I was here about a year or 2 ago and food was amazing everything was, but after going there this time im not sure if I'll be coming back.
Server was friendly but disappeared. Had to ask another server for our check. The drinks were strong but the food lacked any real flavor. I've been to a few other Mexican restaurants throughout Rochester and they are all much better. I will not be returning to Salena's again. They used to be good, not anymore.

I just ordered the combination fajitas to go it cost 38 dollars there was 3 shrimp 4 small pieces of chicken and 4 small pieces of steak absolutely insane in addition to that I had a spoon of rice and beans. I called i was put on hold for over 5 minutes I dont recommend it...
"Unauthentic and Expensive Mexican Food" The server was very kind and attentive to our table. My wife's silverware was dirty, with dried beans on her fork. Service 4/5. Cleanliness 2/5 They didn't have Al Pastor, so I ordered 3 tacos, Shredded Chicken, Chicken and Bean, and Beef. They all were served with diced tomatoes and pickled onions. Every taco tasted sweet, very weird flavor. The tacos came with with very little rice and beans considering the meal was 20+ dollars. Food 1/5 I have been to Mexican Restaurants in NYC, Buffalo, and Rochester, and I can't say that Selena's compared. Go to Nenos in Rochester if you are looking authentic Mexican food!
Do not go here if you are expecting authentic Mexican food. Worst Mexican food I’ve had. I’d rather have frozen burritos. The poppers were stuffed with mozzarella cheese, wrapped in cheddar cheese. There was more of similar cheese flavor than there was anything else. Don’t get them. The beans came out like dog food. The rice came out dry like sand. It’s like a fried cheese with cheese with a chunk or two of chicken Chimi. This goes in the never again list.
