El Sabor De Casa San Diego Reviews
I wanted to post this review so others can see what the food looks like. Pictured are the longaniza plate, chicken burrito and chilaquiles. Great food and great service.
Authentic Guatemalan food in San Diego! We had plantaino frito, frijoles negros y queso fresco. Yummy!! Family restaurant- The owner Ysabel and her husband are the chefs.
They serve Guatemalan food and Mexican food. I had the carne asada tacos, just a quick lunch break. Very tasty. And good price.
Food was amazing and service was exceptional. True to the guatamalan cuisine, we will be coming here often. Very satisfied 😌
Great food, nice place. Micheladas were good.

The place was so cute! I was trying to look for a place that would be appropriate for my dad. This hit the spot for all of us. I got the chilaquiles, my dad got a burrito and my bf got the longaniza plate. Everything was yummy. The lady working was very nice and helpful with my fussy dad. I would definitely come back!
Came here on a Friday night with my partner. We were greeted by the owner and she was extremely welcoming and answered our questions about the different menu items. I was surprised to learn this is one of the few places to get Guatemalan food here in San Diego! The restaurant is still about 4 months old, and service was pretty quick. My partner and I both ended up ordering the pepian (based on the recommendations here) and am glad to report it was fantastic. Salsa was hearty and just the right amount of spicy. Tortillas were FRESH (still steaming and just pressed). Plenty of love and care is put into the food. Looking forward to coming back in the future!
They have a variety of food (Mexican and Guatemalan). My wife and I tried the Gutemalan menu, and we were not disappointed. Everything was delicious, including the chicken rice tamal. We highly recommend it, and we would definitely come back to this place whenever we visit San Diego again.
I was so happy to finally find good Guatemalan food in SD! The pepian and paches were delicious and the service was so attentive. I can’t wait to eat more traditional Guatemalan dishes because I will be coming here often.
Dining here feels like coming home—each bite bursts with the flavors of fresh, authentic ingredients that remind me of traditional, homemade meals. The dishes carry the warmth and comfort of home cooking, with every element thoughtfully prepared. The service is equally outstanding, making the experience even more memorable. A true gem for anyone seeking the taste of home!
I was disgusted by the quality of a nearby Colombian restaurant on the same block, that I stumbled upon El Sabor De Casa out of sheer luck. I’m so glad I did! Upon walking up I was instantly greeted with a smile and she started cleaning a nearby table for me to sit. I told her I would be getting takeout and that didn’t change the quality of the service. Everything- from the delicious coffee to the delectable and huge portion sizes for the breakfast- was outstanding. I will definelty make this a regular stop whenever I’m in San Diego. Thank you El Sabor de Casa!
Awesome little spot, this is my third visit, great tacos, great breakfast and great Guatemalan food, I'll be back to try more for sure. Price ranges for 2 bucks for the taco of the day to 15 bucks for a full plate, fair prices and great food.
My friends and I love this place. Great food and always really friendly service. Feels like home. I recommend the chilaquiles con chipotle.

My review is solely for the tamales.. I ordered to pickup and it was my first time finding a place near me that offers them. I moved from LA and there are sooo many good places there. I'm bummed to say this will not be my spot. The masa was lumpy and the tamales has raisens. My Mama Lina would never. Olives, yes but raisens? Big nope. The meat in the tamales was very good. The pan they served with it is not pan frances, it was like pan bimbo. There was no lime given with the tamales either. It was a definite disappointment. I won't be back for this. Maybe the desayuno guatemalteco is better but I don't know. They didn't impress me. I miss my chapin spots in LA. This made me very sad. :(

I bought Menudo here for $15 dollars. It was literally a big bowl of hot water with oregano. It was a very very awful experience. I will never eat here again. 😞
