Mama’s Bakery San Diego Reviews
Took a little while to get our order but worth the wait.
I tried their chicken shawarma it tasted delicious!! Thanks for the biglawa! I appreciate your sweet hospitality. I highly recommend!!
This place is great! Still a neighborhood gem with fair prices and food freshly made to order.
The Chicken Shwarma Plate was delicious and generous portions with Really good flavor but also really dry. A good Gyro place for sure!!
I love the ultimate supreme manaeesh with chicken and garlic paste (house made fresh). Make sure to get the hot sauce (hint of vinegar also house made)
Oredrred for a special luncheon and everyone loved them! They disappeared so quickly. Great Baklava! Great service with the delivery also! :)
This place is as authentic as it gets, I am so glad I discovered this hidden gem! the food is delicious, it reminds me of the Hummus/Falafel takeaways from Jordan, and it brought so much memories from when I was a kid. I love the Arabic music in the background and the outside dining area is so simple, clean and feels like home! Simply,I love it!
I’ve had a LOT of gyros pita sandwiches from a lot of places over the years but this is easily my new favorite place to order from. All the components were perfectly proportioned, the veggies were very fresh, and the tzatziki with lots of parsley was delicious.
The best falafel in San Diego! The plate is great if I’m super hungry, but if I’m not, the wrap comes in the amazing homemade flatbread. I moved to LA a couple months ago and have not found anything even close to this good. Whenever I come down and make a point to come here. Everyone is super nice and the food is still affordable, which is rare these days. Hopefully, they don’t have to raise prices too much when they move to the new location around the corner.
Delicious. I got the combo plate and the portion is huge. The meat is savory and seasoned well and it's tinder. Very good
Oh mercy, this was an insanely delicious meal! I had the Ultimate Manaeesh with fried eggplant, paired with a spinach and cheese pie. I was simply just not prepared for how good this would be, and I ate myself stupid for my lunch. The Manaeesh was an overload of pleasure on the palate, and several times I hit a new little flavor pocket that made me love it even more. I ate the WHOLE thing, mostly because I was headed to the airport and could not keep it, but I'm not really sure if I could have stopped myself either way. While the Manaeesh was a pleasure assault on the senses, the spinach and cheese pie was a much more gentle experience, with a lovely creaminess that was a perfect balance to the OMG level of the Manaeesh. This is up there with some of my all time favorite meals on the planet- it's that good. Don't skip this one, it's almost too good to be true.
I absolutely love this place. I’ve been coming here for years. The food is always fresh and full of flavor. My favorite thing to order is the Chicken Shawarma with Tabouli Salad. I will warm you in advance the menu is quite overwhelming on the first visit but just take your time and you will find what works for you. They has tons of options. In regards to beverages; they have a cute little refrigerator full of small batch & limited edition drinks. If you prefer a regular soft drinks I guess you’ll just have to wait until go somewhere else this place only serves the crowd favorite Rocky Mountain Soda company. The new digs look like they will be great. Our fence visit left us wanting the food we used to get many years ago. Don't me wrong, the food is still great but before the dough used to be stretched thinner and that makes a huge difference when cooked on the Saj.
First time here after hearing about it on a YouTube video. I wanted to try a good amount of their menu, so we ordered the hummus, falafel, meat and spinach pie and the ultra manaeesh. Everything was so tasty and this was a bunch of food! The star i think was the manaeesh. Their flatbread with thyme seasoning, tomatoes, mint and lebni (a yogurt cream cheese). Next time I'll opt for adding chicken to it! They are moving to the otherside of the block, for a bigger location!
Mama's Bakery and Michoz are the local Lebanese competitors. Depending on my taste buds determines who is the best. I can say this, Mama's is always good and never misses the mark. Variety of choices for vegan, dairy-free, carnivores and plain eating folk. I can go on about each dish but the chicken schwarma is a Top 3. Add extra pickles and easy feta. A well-presented wrap layered with grilled chicken, green leaf lettuce, tomatoes, tahini etc. No skimping on any ingredient. Prices are comparable to a sit down restaurant without gratuity. Cash and cards accepted. Dine-in or to-go and catering services available. Wait-tinr during lunch could be up to 20-30 minutes. Other times 10-15 minutes. Street parking can get hairy but there is special parking for bicycles. Most visitors from different cultures favor this eatery.
parked on the st a block away. 15min spot right in front. some st parking. dining is outdoor with fans and shade. order inside and wait for food outside. I got a Chicken shawarma wrap ($10) that tasted like boiled drychicken with tomatoes lettuce and pickles. I asked the lady if this was my correct order. She took it back and brought another one. it was much better, chicken wasn't tough and it was mixed with tahini and more flavorful and saucy. The wrap bread is fresh and tasty. I could come back for the 2nd tahini filled wrap. or just order something else The falafel plate comes with bread, salad, and hummus in a to-go box. it was all pretty good and came out to $15. I appreciate the friendly service and that they cared enough to fix my first wrap. Cold water provided outside is self service . utensils and salt also outside self service. but gotta ask for hot sauce. seating is nice outside and is open to public too. One small bathroom in the back.
Tried the Makanek Armenian sausage and Soujouk Lebanese sausage wraps. The wraps were a fair size for the price. Both types of sausages were lean, however they were salty to the point we really couldn't taste the difference between the two. We will try the other menu options when we return.
I don’t usually feel the need to leave a negative review but after pulling out a staple (yes, a staple) from my grilled eggplant wrap I felt compelled to. If you decide to eat here, chew carefully.
