Butterfly Joint San Francisco Reviews
Cute neighborhood, hole in the wall spot. Close to the park and beach—great for a quick snack. Few small benches outside. Friendly staff. Excellent vegan Lebanese hand pie (fresh and spicy) and saffron and turmeric latte.
Walked into finding this place by walking by falling in love with its mural and woodworking. Came back the next day when it was open and met the lovely Miss Erin/co-owner working the coffee window. The menu is enticing, I will be back to try the spicy Cocoa. Went with a simple, iced vanilla latte, which was absolutely delicious and scored a Meyer lemon doughnut, which was immediately devoured. Who is this guy Carl they gave this place a one star that didn’t even try the coffee? Absolute nonsense, not much of a local guide if you ask me. Wish I was more local to this area because it would be my new morning spot to grab yummy treats from a friendly human!
Stopped by this cafe window on a Saturday with a friend. We were greeted by a very friendly person who answered our questions and took our order. The donuts were delicious with a crisp dough and sweet cardamom frosting. The foghorn was recommended to me and I really enjoyed it. There was an oat milk alternative option.
So much to say about this business. Wonderful, personable owners who set up a coffee shop out of their wood working shop during the pandemic. And now they've struck gold with these recent donuts of theirs. Quite possibly the best vegan and gluten-free donut I've had in the city. They have a pleasant crispiness on the outside, moist pound cake texture inside, and flavors that aren't too sugary so you really enjoy all of the components that make up the donut. Be sure to try a coffee or one of their many other drinks. I love that they source their coffee from a Oakland roaster. These folks are all about supporting other local businesses. Love it!
I was looking for a coffee shop nearby on my way to meet someone and stumbled upon this place. I had such a good impression, I wanted to leave a review. Danny and Erin are so friendly and awesome people! They definitely made me feel welcomed. Congrats on opening your shop for 2 years. Can't believe I didn't find you sooner! Great coffee and house made donuts too!
Vegan donuts are a must! Every experience is always great! Located in the neighborhood, a quick walk makes a donut run, worth it.
Best coffee/tea spot in both the outer sunset & outer Richmond. The turmeric saffron tea was heavenly as was their beet version. They have equally creative coffees & locally sourced pastries 🥮 that are simply exquisite (usually from Devil’s Teeth). Great service!
Riding my bike here for delicious espresso & chat has become a weekend ritual for me :) My go-to is the Foghorn, espresso pulled with panela (cane sugar) and cardamom, served in the cutest cup. You can get pure espresso or as a mixed drink, both delicious, sweet, and flavorful. Really good donuts too! Erin & Danny are both awesome - great chat, great kindness, great humans :)

Has to be one of the top notch coffee spots in SF. They treat you like family and it’s genuine. High quality drip coffee and tasty treats. Stop by and give them a visit. The Cess had a churro doughnut. I had the Colombian meat pie. My Colombian breakfast was what I was missing from Central America. Black beans and plantains with subtle spices two thumbs up. I took a bite of the donut my kind of donut. Somewhat crunchy on the outside, nice and chewy and warm on the inside and sweet all around, but not too sweet. three thumbs up if I had an extra hand. Even got to talk to some of the regulars that we’re hanging out drinking coffee, just exactly what you want in a local neighborhood coffee place high-quality coffee and high-quality hospitality along with high-quality conversation.
This humble corner coffee shop window is one of my favorite places in the community. The couple running this shop put so much love and passion into everything they’re doing for the local community that it makes it an easy 10/10 from me. Massive kudos points to the fantastic vegan doughnuts!
Such a hyper local neighborhood gem! Service is always warm and welcoming, the coffee is perfectly done every time and they have (vegan) donuts! I also love witnessing the owners interact with the other neighborhood locals, knowing people's names, orders, kids, pets and the like. Clearly so much care and attention went to making this place available and keeping it going as a vibrant part of our community.
Great coffee shop that brings the whole neighborhood together. Personally love their drip coffee and their matcha vegan donuts.
Such a cool little spot! Thrilled to find a vegan donut shop! They also accommodate other food allergies. Easy parking, quiet street, super nice shop owner and clearly a great advocate for the community! Very happy to patronize this shop and will be coming back as often as possible!
Favorite place to get a coffee when I walk my dog. The owners are great people and the donuts are good too.
Truly the biggest gem in the Outer Richmond. Delicious vegan and regular donuts, hand pies, and coffee roasted in house. Danny and Erin are also just delightful and create space for people of all ages.
So cute!! Great coffee & gf doughnuts
Great coffee + tea and tasty pastries too! Our kids love when we bring them on donut Fridays: they get to place their own orders with the friendly staff, grab a seat to eat their donut, and see other kids from the neighborhood. I feel lucky to have this spot in our neighborhood!
I was in town for the weekend and stopped by for some coffee and donuts. The owners are so kind and genuine. They offered some suggestions on things to do in the area and even remembered my name and dietary restrictions. They are great!! The vegan/GF donuts are mind-blowingly amazing! You would never know they were GF, let alone Vegan! The coffee was amazing, too! I tried something different every day, and it was all delicious!
I'm not a donut person, but these donuts are outrageously good... best donuts of my life! The staff is incredibly friendly, makes you feel like you have a community and the coffee is affordable and high-quality! Plus plastic-free packaging. It's my favorite coffee shop in all of San Francisco
Can't speak to the classes, but the coffee and treats here are amazing. We're very picky about our Expresso but they do it right, made with the care and precision of a woodworker! The vegan gluten free donuts are AMAZING, and not "amazing for being vegan." They're just amazing. The owners are super nice and very invested in the community. I cannot recommend it enough.

Great coffee, tasty treats for all palates, and a welcoming atmosphere for regulars and newbies alike. This spot is the definition of "community" and "good vibes".
As an Aussie and a Kiwi we were truly impressed with the quality of the coffee. We were made to feel a part of the local community and couldn’t have been more welcomed. Congratulations to Danny and his wife for creating an environment that the entire community can congregate and even outside visitors feel comfortable.
