Elixir San Francisco Reviews
I recently visited Elixir in San Francisco, and I must say, it’s a gem for cocktail lovers. I tried their Sazerac, Manhattan, and a mezcal cocktail, and each one was absolutely top-notch. The balance of flavors, quality of spirits, and skill of the bartenders really stood out — truly some of the best cocktails I’ve had in the city. The atmosphere is equally impressive — a warm, inviting space with a classic, old-school charm that makes you want to linger a little longer. Whether you’re a cocktail connoisseur or just looking for a great spot to unwind, Elixir hits all the right notes. Highly recommend stopping by for expertly crafted drinks and a fantastic vibe!
Elixir is a super cool bar with an impressive selection of older Scotch bottlings. Their pricing is very reasonable, but the real gems are the lesser-known independent bottlings—you can discover some truly unique pours here. The only minor downside is that some bottles are stored high up and require a ladder to access, but if you visit on a quiet day, you’ll have the chance to sample a bunch of really interesting Scotches at surprisingly affordable prices.
Best neighborhood whiskey and cocktail bar in the city. Seriously. The selection is ridiculous, the cocktails are 💯, and the prices are very reasonable. If Elixir isn't your favorite bar already, it soon will be.
I discovered this bar thanks to a Mixology class, where Nick shared some great stories, tips and tricks for cocktails and mocktails. The space is super cozy with a lot of story and a great vibe, the staff was super friendly and our drinks were delicious🫶🏼
Just a little lovely and amazing neighborhood whiskey bar. H & co. have done so much for the neighborhood vibe and cocktail/whiskey culture in SF. Always a lovely evening. 💖💖💖
Great vibe and location. Service was excellent. Will definitely be coming back
Serving spectacular holiday cocktails right now 🎄✨🍸 The house made egg nog is soooo delicious that I might have to go back every day and get one as a nightcap!! It tastes like creamiest creamsicle you can imagine. This bar is a staple in the Mission and if you're nearby definitely stop in for a drink.
Love this place so much. I first discovered Elixir when I was visiting SF for TechCrunch Disrupt back in 2013. (I know, a long time ago!) But our friend Mark who lived in the area took us to this gem in his neighborhood, and it was there I got a chance to see just how incredible the whiskey selection was at this place. After doing a few rounds, the OWNER of the bar came around to check in on us... but he didn't just ask how we were doing as a courtesy; he actually cared about where we were visiting from, what we had done, and if we had been to XYZ place + offered recs and even help making reservations by calling different bar/restaurant owners to help make our already-incredible trip even better. He spent a good 10-15 min with us, educated us on different spirits and mixers we were curious about behind the bar—and then before we left, bought us a round to drink and enjoy one of those spirits we had inquired about with him. True hospitality. From the owner to the manager to the bartenders and other staff. Year later, a different friend of mine and I were visiting—so I recommended we check out Elixir. Upon entering, my friend asked if I had ever tried Pappy since he noticed Elixir had the full lineup. Neither my friend and I had, so we marveled at the idea and then pulled the trigger. 🥃 🥃 To my surprise—and I know Pappy is rare, let alone expensive—but when the flight came, the owner and staff recognized me from many years prior, asked how I was, recalled I was last there for that conference, how the rest of it was, and even offered us some incredible stories and education about the history of Pappy as we sipped each year. My friend and I stayed a lot longer than we had anticipated and the owner and manager even offered us a personalized tasting of rare Wild Turkey bourbons they had in stock if we wanted to come back before we flew home and see how we liked them, especially to compare to the Pappy flight. Safe to say, we came back and had a wonderful time exploring (and learning!) about different types of whiskey—and the owner, managers, and staff at Elixir really took care of us. On top of making incredible looking and tasting cocktails, seeing their passion is something I'll always remember and treasure. Thanks, H, Nick, Shea, Lauren, and team! (And Mark for the original rec!) Y'all made trips to SF so much fun and educational! Appreciate your passion, craft, and hospitality. 🙏 Until next time :) - Nik
Nick is AMAZING!!! We learned so freakin much about mixology and the history of SF.
A great place to drink the best of best whiskies in SF, had been pleasant that staff helped pick bottles from top of the shelf! Something was not good that is you might felt a bit offended when some random people came to me with random comments. We are all adults, guests should learn how to behave even they are absolutely drunk! So you will expect the great selection of whiskies but not great experience if you plan just to quietly enjoy them
When I’m over in this part of the mission, I always hit Elixir. We went for my own bar’s holiday bar crawl (I took my staff out). Great bartenders and cocktails. Not to be missed!
Really nice vibe. Great beer selection and a lovely guy behind the bar that offered advice on what to drink and let us try it out first. Really cool interior too. Great find in the mission If you want a more chilled and mature dive bar / saloon.
Stopped in for a drink while on vacation site seeing. Kara was a great bartender and gave excellent history on the establishment. Drinks were fairly priced and tasted great.

Dan was a great bartender! Introduced me to the Revolver, a new favorite.
Amazing bar. Esp if you love whisky. Had a great whisky tasting experience. Amazing vibe. Great music. Must come. Kara was our bartender and she's amazing! Took our experience to the next level
Nick was the best bartender and has an amazing knowledge of whiskey and the history of the bar. I would trust his recommendations and I’d you’re nice, he can tell you some amazing history about the bar. I’d recommend this place to anyone who loves whiskey or history of SF.
Such a fun and cozy bar with a super cool history! They have a great selection of spirits and beers. The bar tenders are always friendly and knowledgeable. They often have fun/special events too. Definitely give em a follow on Instagram and check it out 🥃🍺
We did the cocktail intro class and had so much fun! The class was entertaining, service was incredible, and drinks were great too. Super nice staff, would recommend to anyone!
This place is great; it rocks! It has an upstairs and a street level. You can have private parties upstairs while they're rocking downstairs. The music is really good. The drinks can get a bit expensive if you drink a lot. One other thing: on the weekends and holidays, it's a bit difficult to park, but it's well worth it because when you get hungry, there are restaurants next store and down the block across the street you get the Pic

Great neighborhood dive bar with an extensive collection of whiskeys. Came here a couple of times, most recently on St. Patty’s day. Love the vibe of the place, even tho it was a bit louder with the live DJ. Kara, one of the bartenders, made us an incredible creation of her own, dubbed tentatively the Sunset Bananza. We appreciate her and all the other bartenders hospitality in celebrating our friend’s birthday on St. Patty’s day!
They really know their whiskey! Came here for their whiskey 101 class (found on Eventbrite) and it was interesting. The information was a bit all over the place, but what a great opportunity to taste test different whiskeys against each other. The bartender was also super knowledgeable and readily answered our questions. Would recommend if you want to get into whiskey, I had a great time!

Went up to the bartender and asked what he can make with egg whites like a whiskey sour. Responded very rudely saying that he can make whatever and hurry up there’s staring eyes on him so hurry up. Very unexpected response. Not professional even under pressure.
