Was looking for a quick seafood restaurant along Pier 39 and stopped at the Hook! The had more reasonable prices compared to the neighboring restaurants. I purchased a cup of clam chowder and crab cakes with garlic fries. Everyone along the pier offered garlic fries so I had to try! They had many of their menu items on displays which was helpful as a first timer here. The clam chowder was on the thicker side and creamy (my preferred style) but did have a hint of bacon flavor which may not be for everyone. The crab cakes tasted fresh as well as the French fries. It was definitely a larger portions so come hungry. Also there was outdoor seating and a mini donut place right next door. Very happy with this meal!

Personally, I found the food quite good, depending on your choice. We tried the salmon sandwich, fried calamari, and clam chowder. The salmon was fresh, the calamari perfectly done, and the clam chowder creamy and thick as we prefer. The weather was chilly, so the food cooled quickly. Service was excellent!

Great clam Chowder! I loved how warm it was, not too hot and too cold. It wasn’t too expensive as other places around here. They served it on the spot, zero wait time.

I just had a serving of their fish and chips after a rainy day hiking. Even though this is a simple dish, the food was absolutely sublime - large, crispy fried fish and seasoned fries with it. I also tried their hot sauce with the fish and that was a killer combo. Friendly staff and clean interior. Will be back for more!

We went in for lunch. The line wasn't too long and they moved it pretty fast. Wait for the order wasn't long either. Their fried fish sandwich was really good, the grilled fish burger was avg. I'd recommend for quick bite.

came here on a Thursday, not crowded at all! food was pretty good (we got fish and chips), however, portions are not equal but price remains consistent. friends were given larger pieces of fish but we all payed the same amount of money. quick service! overall, not bad :)

I ordered garlic potatoes, a fish wrap paired with a Lagunitas IPA, everything was absolutely exquisite. The service is quick. The only downside is that there are no restrooms on site, and the ones you can use at Pier 39 are not exactly close.

Good restaurant on the pier for a cheap, quick bite that’s also pretty good! I personally recommend their Philly cheesesteak, which is savory from the beef and cheese and sweet from the grilled peppers and onions. As well as, their sausage and grilled peppers and onions. Quite literally mouth watering and they both pair so well perfectly. Their crab poppers are personally a pass for me as it’s a small portion for the price they are charged.

While visiting San Francisco with my best friend, we stopped at The Hook on Pier 39, and shared a clam chowder in a bread bowl. It was delicious! The chowder was creamy, flavorful, and packed with tender clams, and the bread bowl was the perfect vessel—crispy on the outside and soft inside. The casual, laid-back vibe of the place was perfect for a quick meal while enjoying the views. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but for fresh seafood and the atmosphere, it’s totally worth it. If you’re in the area, definitely give it a try! Video Review will be posted on Tik Tok @Foxy.appetite and Instagram @Foxyappetite soon

We're on the pier and the weather is nice. The staff is fast and efficient. The restaurant is clean. The food was not the best. The Philly cheese steak was smothered in canned cheese. The clam chowder tasted bland and my cole slaw was just shredded cabbage. It was not a great value for what we paid.

The most 3 star place I have seen in a while. Not a star lower or higher. It has a cleaner feel as compared to the rest of the restaurants on the Pier. The fish wrap had good fish but a god awful amount of coleslaw and sauce, and the wrap was cold. The garlic fries are ok. The crab cakes are ok. The clam chowder is a 2/5 especially with the non-fresh sourdough bowl. Very stingy with side sauces. The prices are high because of the touristic nature, but nothing outrageous.. And if you are wondering about the service, you get a cold person on the cashier..

They do not validate parking. The clam chowder has bacon. I didn’t like it. My fish and chips were good.

Tried their fish and chips along with their chili bowl and food was just ok. The chili bowl looked amazing, but tasted like wolf can chili. The best part was not the food, but the location. If you can’t find anything else, I guess give it a try.

The hook was so nice. The food was good. The price was reasonable too for the location. Unfortunately they have many places to sit but they were just opening up 2 tables for people to sit together. That was my only concern. Otherwise nice establishment with plenty of food options.

You should not expect much from this place. Consider it as at fast sea food place. All food is pre-prepared. I would recommend it if you are looking for a snack or don't have much time for food

The other reviews talk about the tiny portion size. The food is pretty bad too. You can do better grabbing something from the grocery store and throwing it in the microwave. The prices are way too high for the quality and portions.

Will never recommend this place to anyone….. the chowder was so thick and lumpy, the fish from the fish n chips had oil dripping out of it, the chips seemed like they were given another life. The fish slider, what should I say, the fish should have slid out before they got over fried.

Disappointing. Came to Pier 39 expecting better, fresh seafood. Unfortunately this was not quality for the price. The fish and chips were small, oily and overcooked. Sourdough was good however the clam chowder was floury, almost void of clams , and needed salt. Sodas were $3.50. No refills.
