Foreigner San Mateo Reviews
Their coffee and matcha were amazing!! The latte art was beautiful, and the flavor was delicious. The inside is super cute, lots of seats. The staff was also super nice and helpful, and our drinks came super fast. The food here looks amazing as well. Only downside is the price!
Ok so I've been here twice now and the same barista made my Cubano Cortadito. Perfect extraction. Divine flavour and balance in coffee and milk and condensed milk. This drink sends me to heaven and lifts my spirits. Blessed to enjoy this cafecito. Come here if you love yourself and can enjoy the small things in life like living in the moment and taking in the beautiful atmosphere they provide. Don't sleep on this cafe with incredible presentation and product
I went to this place with my friend for brunch and had a great experience. They had a large selection of sandwiches, wraps, salads, crepes and multiple vegan options. My friend had the all day breakfast tray (loved it) I had the quinoa, oat and fruit bowl. Everything was tasty and fresh. Good coffee and tea. They have free pup cups and they are dog friendly - outdoor seating available.
Very yummy breakfast/brunch place. They have pretty good coffee too. We order the Cortada and the red velvet latte. Both were great. Their food also tasted great. The eggs Benedict were especially yummy. We like that they have real food display for ordering but dislike that there’s no price on the food until they ring it up.
Weekday brunch dine-in:(~ 11 am) 5⭐️ - Walk-in, seated immediately(got lucky), such a lovely vibe inside and out, pet friendly 🐕. The place was a little over reasonably priced but bang for buck for the dine-in experience🔥🤤 Pro-tip(s): Share a main plate with something savoury, thank me later 🫶 Seat yourself next to who you conserve when you as a group(it’s loud) .. all the yapping 😅 - Ordered Avocado and Eggs toast, it’s fresh, rich, visually vibrant and most importantly yummy and filling with the right amount of calories. Even the arugula was good 🥲 - The Banana and Nutella croffle (crossaint pressed into waffle) was 😮💨, on the sweeter side, again a prefect plate being both savoury and instagrammable. - I’d definitely go here again, for the amazing food, vibe, quick service, closer parking and good seating options etc… the list goes on.. - Also, a loud📣 place probably due to seating proximity, to explain with example, you’d be able to speak with person next to you and facing you, not diagonal and beyond…, I’d avoid if you’re a big group. - Bathroom available with code(ask before you go) just outside in the alley.
This has been my go-to café in downtown San Mateo for years. I come here all the time — for casual breakfasts, coffee meetings, afternoon tea, and meeting new friends. It never disappoints. Coffee is consistently good. The turmeric latte is perfect during seasonal transitions, and their signature Yema Latte and Cuban coffee are always solid. Food-wise, I usually go for the spinach and mushroom quiche or the tomato basil quiche — simple, fluffy, and comforting. Desserts are great too. The chocolate coffee tart is a standout (rich and chocolaty with pistachio flakes), and the passion fruit tart is a crowd favorite. The space is cozy, warm, and inviting. Outdoor seating is dog-friendly with plenty of room, and the indoor area is always comfortable and beautiful. Service is consistently attentive and friendly, which makes it an easy place to linger. All in all, Foreigner is one of those reliable, feel-good spots you keep coming back to — whether it’s for a quiet coffee, a casual business chat, or a relaxed weekend brunch. Perfect for: coffee meetings, casual breakfasts, and a cozy neighborhood café you can always count on.
After a bit of boring classes, my partner and I were looking for a place to grab lunch, and we decided on Foreigner Cafe. This place was pretty awesome. Once you enter, you can check out models of all of the food items they offer and the delicious looking pastries ready to order. The cashier nicely helped us figure out our order and we made our way over to an empty table in the adjoining dining room. The beeper system was also really neat. Eventually our drinks and food arrived to our table and we tucked in. The drinks were honestly not that good, but the food was great. The drinks were very much just normal coffee drinks, however the food had a lot of balance and nuance. I would definitely come back here, but maybe just skip out on the drinks.
Came on a Monday around lunchtime and had very prompt service! The quiche was delicious, and I loved the dressing on the side salad. The latte was just okay (not very sweet and the tea wasn't as strong as it could have been), but I am picky about my London Fogs so that in no way influences my positive review of this restaurant! They have a sensor you put on your table so that they know where to bring the food, and the atmosphere is great for studying, working, or enjoying a meal with friends.
Went on the recommendation of a friend before catching a flight, and happy to report that friend is friend indeed! The food here was great and the coffee high quality. The croffles really stole the show in terms of uniqueness and flavor, but the smoked salmon toast was definitely not something to be missed, and offered a delicious salty-savory counterpoint to the delicious Nutella+banana croffles. Everyone was nice, service was quick and clean, and most importantly the food and coffee was super on point. Will be returning on my next trip!
Came here with friends and had a great first time here. Food and drink was lovely, and the presentation of both was as well, with a very artistic touch. Staff was friendly. Prices are on the expensive side, but definitely worth it considering the freshness and taste of the ingredients as well as the portion sizes. Hope to take my family here sometime. :)
A charming breakfast and brunch spot in downtown San Mateo with a well-rounded menu. From avocado toasts and fresh salads to hearty eggs and potatoes, everything is thoughtfully prepared. The bakery selection is impressive, and the coffee pairs perfectly with any choice. The space has a clean, modern feel with plenty of cute seating areas, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a slow morning or casual bite.
We're having brunch here today. Ordered at the register. Found your own table. They will deliver your orders to your table. Not much service after. Iced water and left over boxes self-service in the front. Foods were tasty and reasonable portion. The dining area can sit about 50 -60 people max.
Overall good. Pros: - lots of delicious food and drink choices. Tables were available, no big line at all. Cons: - way too loud, anytime I come here (you guys can do some noise isolation walls…); - my eclair was so dry and tasted like bad one like this was 4 days eclair (I bake, I know taste of pastries)
My friend and I arrived on a Sunday around 12pm with a line out the door. We had about a 17 min wait before ordering and luckily were able to find a table without any trouble indoors. At the door, there's a QR code you scan to view the menu and just before you order, they have a huge display of all the brunch dishes, which was really helpful in making a decision. I ordered the veggie scramble, my friend ordered a mango drink and croque madame sandwich, and we each split a mango Soleil for dessert. After ordering, the staff give you a buzzer that you place on your table so they know where to bring your food. The indoors was quite noisy so the two of us had to almost shout in our conversation to be heard. My scramble was delicious, and my friend enjoyed her croque madame. The dessert had mixed reception. I liked it, but my friend greatly disliked the taste of the exterior hard shell, so picked that all off, but did like the center.
We got in a line that was out the door and had a great time! It was my second time here and all of the food has been good, with fresh ingredients and leaving you feeling healthy. Nice casual vibes with lots of seating available and you pick your own table. Good for a variety of gatherings (friends, work lunch, solo, etc). A great addition to downtown San Mateo!
It is ok, not great. We had the avocado toast and breakfast croissant, along with one afogato and a latte. Avocado Toast was with paste instead of avocado slices, looked like NY style. The coffee was 5 stars though. Good service too, you pay at the counter and they will bring it to you.
We came here Saturday for late Brunch. Orange blossom latte was good. Salmon Benedict was not good. Something was missing. I've been here several times. I was enjoying food. But something was off today. Atmosphere changed. Food changed. Service was lacking. (They only brought food & drink to table, but no one checked in to see if food was good or if we needed anything else. It wasn't even busy) server spilled the coffee a little bit and didn't even offer to bring napkins :) Anyways, hope new management will make this space great! New employees need some trainings.
