Sakura San Ramon Reviews
Absolutely fantastic experiences here. Top quality seafood: very clean, very fresh, prepared with a clear mastery of the craft. The service here is unparalleled for the area - sat next to regulars who came from over an hour away just for the owner and staff. Definitely coming here whenever I'm looking for a high quality sushi with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
My son found this place on accident when another sushi restaurant ignored him, and he walked out. Im so glad he found this place, its great!!! He took me, such a great son and I absolutely loved it.. Sushi is pricey $$ no matter where you go. But this place is great quality n worth it. The owner is like an old friend and we hv not been dissapointed. They are new so not crazy busy yet. I'm taking my mom for her birthday tomorrow. If like myself you Love sushi but can only afford it once in a while this place is delicious, fresh and oh so good!!
I’ve eaten at Sakura twice now & both times have been great! The owners are quite friendly and the sushi has been deliciously fresh. Solid drink selection as well. Looking forward to returning for a 3rd time!
The folks at Shakura are the most friendly genuine people you could ever meet . Absolutely the cleanest place freshest fish from the best fish market .Any negative review I would not believe .Experience it for yourself and you will agree .
Super delicious & tasty sashimi rolls! The dining environment is cozy yet modern!! The chef and servers are all very friendly, and makes the dining experiences super enjoyable!!! Will definitely come again, for family & friend gathering 😋
Beautiful pace with nice fish aquarium, soft music, and Japanese decorations. Owner is a fine person who serves others with gratitude, even though the shopping center deprived his location of parking. Worthy of your support. Near several offices and Bishop ranch. Suoport your local business. I had a delicious lunch box with salmon and sushi, brown rice, soup and salad for 15. Nice service, friendly.
Today was my first time coming to this restaurant. I called ahead to place my lunch order, they were very friendly and helpful over the phone. When I arrived to pick up my food, I was greeted immediately by more friendly and helpful staff. My food was ready quickly, and tastes AMAZING. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant and I will definitely be back!
Been a regular customer for over 18 years. Tony and the family are outstanding and the quality is second to none. So Blessed by this family and their dedication to their customers. Tonys rolls are great! If you have not tried them you are missing out!
Freshest fish in the east bay GUARANTEED! The ambiance welcomes a group of friends or a beautiful date night out or even a family dinner. Reasonable and delicious!! You get what you pay for! Great people and great cheery staff! Tony and Kathy do an amazing job with their restaurant and I highly recommend!
I'm not a big sushi fan but this was by far beyond my level of expectation. Let me tell you I loved it. We ordered the Drag roll, steak, a Special roll and ribeye steak and hot sake to wash all the deliciousness down. We accompanied it with white rice that was just perfect for the meal. The whole experience was worth the visit. I'll definitely venture more into the Japanese cuisine. If I'm ever back in town I'll swing by again. 👍
Me, my mom, and her childhood best friend went to this place the other day. Fantastic FRESH food, REAL wasabi, authentic and fantastic human beings in there, the owner is incredibly lovely. Some of the best Japanese food we have ever had. Thank you! And God bless you.
Our family has been going to Sakura for the past two decades and it continues to be our favorite sushi spot in the East Bay. Tony, Cathy, and their sons go out of their way to make customers feel welcome! The service and the food are equally excellent. I especially like the sashimi, fried oysters, and udon soup. While we loved the cozy feel of the old location, the new one is more spacious and modern. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.
Sushi was great, best I've had in a while.
The entry process here is still a holdover from covid, but the staff is gracious and welcoming. I particularly enjoy the sashimi - good quality and well prepared. Last time I was in, they were showcasing a new winemaker from Napa. I don't typically get wine, but I really enjoyed that chardonnay.
This place is exceptional. I love this restaurant. It's by far the best quality around. The hospitality here is second to none. Tony makes you feel like family. By far the best sushi in the east bay in my opinion. Don't pay attention to yelp. I think people think it's to expensive here but I would rather pay high price for this type of service and quality product. Sakura takes the crown for best Japanese restaurant in east bay hands down.
Just happen to be in the area and was in the mood for some sushi. Sushi and food was good and fresh. Staff and service was great. If your really hungry I highly recommend the Big Daddy roll. Biggest I've ever ate and was delicious too.
Randomly walked in while I was looking for food during a stay at the hotel next door, and was very happy I did. Place was only 20% occupied in a Friday night, so service was very personal and attentive. The food was among the best sushi I've ever had in the Bay Area. Also pretty unique and just a little different from other places. I will say they the price level is also just a tad higher (rolls around $20 and some significantly higher), but I totally see this justified by the quality of the food. Overall, very highly recommended. I would certainly go back if I was staying in the area again.
Great atmosphere. Great food. Great service. Totally recommend. May be a little different than usual sushi places but the sushi was very good. The ribeye with tempura was very good. Sake tasting was good. Over all very good. Service was amazing everyone is down to earth, very talkative and them honestly take their time to have a conversation and explain everything.
The staff is extremely friendly, welcoming, and attentive! The miso soup is a must as well as the chicken udon. The ingredients are fresh, and the food is delicious. The atmosphere is pleasant with lots of indoor seating as well as bar seating where you can watch the sushi chefs. Overall, this was a wonderful experience all around, and I would highly recommend it! I Plan to come back soon to try the O-toro!
Ever since my favorite sushi restaurant near me closed, I have been in despair. But tonight, I saw the light, and it's name is Sakura. All is well with the world again. The Chirashi bowl is the best one I've had around here and they had some great nigiri and cheesecake!
Absolutely amazing sushi spot in San Ramon! LOVE the sashimi and the katsu. Prices are super reasonable for the size and quality - they get a little busy at times but the wait isn’t bad, and the service is very good - attentive and polite. Absolutely recommend this place - it’s one of only two places I will eat sushi.
Absolutely the best Sushi 🍣 I've had. Great Staff and best service. I'll definitely be back while down here for work Ronnie-
We've been late at trying out Sakura. We loved it! Portions are generous. And food was delicious. Staff is courteous. Definitely made our favorites list!
This is the best sushi in San Ramon proper. It's expensive, and a strange location, but it's really good and you won't be disappointed with your food. Service was also better than most. Fun people to talk to, friendly chatter, and gave recommendations. I will definitely be back.
Pleasant environment, great service. The food was absolutely delicious. The karaage was tender and lightly fried, perfect as an appetizer. If you like tempura, this was some of the best I’ve had. The sashimi was excellent with freshness I could instantly taste. Get the sun burnt ice cream, it will not disappoint. Overall, highly recommend.
I was here for a convention and saw that this place was highly rated. They absolutely deliver with excellent service and fantastic sushi, with fresh fish delivered daily. I particularly enjoyed a roll I found on the sppecials menu, so be sure to check that out.
After 20 days on shelter-in-place recipes, I took my wife and daughter out for some nice meal. To go, of course. Came by this restaurant we trust ~ Sakura in San Ramon, now converted to a clean and neat Japanese food outlet. One customer at the check out stand at a time. The cashier with gloves and a mask on took the credit card, processed it, sanitized it, and returned it with a pen, which had been cleaned with Clorox wipes. The only thing besides the food that I had to touch was the pen, which was then put in a tray for sanitizing. Gorgeous assorted o-nigiri , spider and spicy tuna rolls, grilled salmon, chicken karaage, edamame, and hot miso fish soup. The to-go boxes are so refined that I decided to keep them as souvenirs. My family's first "fine dining" in these Shelter-in-Place days.
Great little Japanese restaurant with very friendly and helpful staff! You can tell the quality of the fish is very high and that a lot of love went into crafting the meals. Definitely recommended.

We went on a soft opening night. Between the 4 of us we had steak teriyaki, pork katsu, and multiple rolls. The food was fresh and excellent tasting. The only problem that i see is the size of the restaurant is going to cause long waits once its fully open.
This staple of the San Ramon food culture is still incredible. The service is fast, friendly, and accurate. The food (appetizers, rolls, and nigiri/sashimi) are fresh, delicious and prepared with care. The location is convenient and there’s plenty of parking. I will continue to happily give this place my business, and if you’re looking for the best sushi place in the whole area, you’ve found it. 10/10 will definitely go again.
Every time we come here we are treated like family and get excellent service. The food is amazing on top of that. Highly recommend!
Finest Japanese food in the East Bay. Owners are wonderful people. Chef/owner is a genius. Fish is as fresh as it gets. My wife and I have been going to Sakura for more than 10 years, always amazing experience. Bring your smiles and a designated driver/Uber because the Sake selection is top of the class.
This review is long overdue. We’ve been coming here whenever we’re in town and it never disappoints. Excellent food and service! We never had to wait long for our orders to arrive. The owners are kind and friendly. The way they season the edamame is the best I’ve had ever. It’s the perfect balance of savory seasoning. My kids loved their salad so much that they kept asking for more every time we’re here. All of their sashimi are fresh and tasty, especially their toro! Man, writing this is making me hungry. Can’t wait to eat there again!
It was my first time here & they were so nice & had great customer service! Very attentive, and has the BEST sushi. Highly recommend this sushi in San Ramon!

We ordered rib eye steak with sashimi and sunset blvd roll to go. The price is a little more expensive than the average japanese restaurant in the area probably because of the new location, newer building more expensive rent. The rib eye is smothered in teriyaki sauce, it was good but not the way i like my rib eye. I would not order this next time. The roll needs more improvement. The sashimi though, OMG. The sashimi is a totally different story. It was fresh and tasty and oh so yummy melt in your mouth goodness. One of the best i have ever had. I would keep coming back here just for the sashimi.

Went a couple weeks ago. Not worth the price and the process of getting in the restaurant makes me want to leave. They have a check in desk at one door blocking you coming in and then you have to go around to another door and let in from staff. Crazy! Like it’s a high end Vegas peak easy. Service and food was good but with many better places with better food , service , and price I’ll never go back.
I ate here recently. Excellent service and staff. The prices are insane for the quality of sushi you get. Super fishy smell and taste on multiple rolls. If you think this place has good sushi you need to seriously check out other places. Will never eat here again. Canned tuna with mayo and sweet relish is better.
The food here is WAY OVERPRICED considering the quality. For 3 people. I walked out of there paying $151 for the food and nearly a $30 tip. Portion sizes are small as well. I was shocked to receive a fruit salad as the house salad. It was good but not very Japanese in my opinion. Here's what my table ordered: Spicy edamame House salad Cucumber salad Coke Diet coke Teriyaki chicken combo with tempura California roll Rainbow roll - Spicy edamame was good but small portion and really oily - House salad was a fruit salad with a sweet creamy dressing - Cucumber salad was cut thick and bland - Teriyaki chicken and tempura were good but small portion size - California roll made with fresh crab which was nice but the rice - on it was mushy - Rainbow roll was decent with fresh fish What struck me is that the teriyaki chicken combo was so expensive. I think it was somewhere between $37 and $42 for a dinner portion that wasn't that big. There's a Japanese place that's smaller and more quaint within in walking distance that's 3x cheaper and much better in my opinion. Inside was clean and nice but it was hard to understand the waitress because she spoke really fast. Also the man behind the sushi bar was super loud. Will I be back? Nope. The cost is for the service and food quality just makes no sense.
At this price point, the sushi quality was far below expectations. The most unacceptable part was that all of the sashimi was still icy — clearly not fully thawed before being served. The texture was hard and watery, with none of the freshness, sweetness, or buttery mouthfeel you expect from good raw fish.

We really wanted to love this restaurant. Based on the reviews, we thought we would and have a new favorite sushi restaurant to add to our others. Sadly, it didn't work out that way. The entrance to the building is awkward. The actual front door is for take out orders only. You need to enter through the side. Maybe if you called ahead, that would have been explained. We didn't know that to eat in the restaurant that we needed a reservation, the women explained from the sliver in the door she opened. She yelled out to someone inside and then allowed us in. The restaurant was empty, she sat us at a table and took our order. Our food came out quickly, and we began to eat. The crab in the roll I ordered was fishy. I had to use a napkin to put it in after I tasted it. We called her over to explain what happened, and she argued that they only use the best crab and it wasn't fishy at all. In the middle of that conversation, the man making the rolls yelled out to her to let the party at the door in. She quickly ran to the door, leaving us without resolving the issue of the fishy crab, never to return to our table (right next to the other party) she ignored us the rest of the time. It seemed the party next to us had been a long-time patron of the restaurant from their previous location. The man making the rolls was summoned to the table by the gentleman, and they reminisced about how long they had known each other. It is amazing to have that relationship. A young gentleman, very professional asked how our dinner was, we explained to him the crab was fishy and we wanted that roll removed from our bill, he apologized, left and returned with the bill removing the bad roll. We will not go back to this restaurant and, if asked, won't recommend it either. Maybe it was a combination of circumstances, we didn't call ahead, explaining that the crab was bad and the long time customer, I'm not sure, but I am sure we will never go back.
Ok... so I've wanted to try this place for a while now, years actually. But, it always seemed empty... I finally went there... and now I know why! The food kinda sucks and the service (Owner operated and staffed) is even worse! The menu items are overpriced and the value is as defined as the food... it sucks too! Also, they try to make the place seem exclusive in defining their requirements for reservations. There wasn't a single patron in the restaurant. And, they make it almost impossible to get into the dining room, the restaurant was open but, there wasn't an open door... just weird! We ordered (4) different rolls, the Dragon Roll (with the special 'Red Crab') tasted fishy. I asked the host, server, and owner if she could offer something else and she argued with me telling me their food was the very best quality. Ummm... ok... it still doesn't taste good. It tastes rotten... will you fix it? She then turned her back on us to open the door for another group, who obviously had reservations, She seated them and completely disregarded us, our needs and requests. Anyway, long story short, save yourself... if this place is new to you... your other place is probably better. Don't risk the disappointment and avoid Sakura Japanese Chinese Cuisine!
Scammers rudely said I need to pay $20 per person minimum order, I came in and ordered one $16 roll for a quick snack. She didn't tell me this until I finished eating and I asked for the bill.
