Salt Restaurant & Bar Syracuse Reviews
My boyfriend and I have been coming here for about a year now for brunch. Most times we had a waiter named Mark and when we have him we absolutely love it here. He is amazing, so attentive and nice. The food is amazing, but if you come here I hope you have him as a server because my time here while he is here is exceptional and not like the times without him. So I do recommend it here because of the food but more so because of an amazing server.
Stopped into Salt Restaurant yesterday - Stephen, the Manager, immediately greeted us - very nice - very professional. I have seen him here many times filling in when he also does not have enough staff members - he is the most polite man - Thank you Stephen for another excellent experience at Salt!

Excellent place for a drink and light food. Had a drink here after a long business meeting and the place had a classic comfortable feel. Leather oversized chairs give a great, homey feel. I did order wings and they were presented very well and tasted great. Drinks were excellent as well and very reasonably priced for a hotel bar. Food was great, wait a little long for density of patrons but not bad. Got the Reuben and French Onion soup... small mistakes in the order but not a huge deal. French onion was out of this world. Five stars on that alone. I would go back.
I go to Syracuse Law School and I’ve been in town for residencies twice now. Came here last year for dinner and brunch and came again this year. Always always always a positive experience. The servers are very nice. The food tastes like it was made with love. If you’re ever around the University and are looking for a sit in classic American cuisine with great, warm people, that appear to love their job, I highly recommend this place. Don’t leave Syracuse without coming here.
Fantastic location for a drink and some light fare. I had a drink here following a protracted business meeting, and the atmosphere was traditional cozy. Large leather chairs create a cozy atmosphere. I did order wings, and they tasted fantastic and were presented beautifully. The drinks were first-rate and surprisingly inexpensive for a hotel bar. Food was excellent, however there was a little bit of a wait given the volume of customers. Got the Reuben with French onion soup; there were a few little errors in the order, but nothing major. The French onion was excellent. Five stars just for it. I would return.
New bartender, who was lovely and made great conversation. The food was great--pork rib chop cooked perfectly with a warm vegetable slaw. French onion soup was also very good. Just off the lobby of the hotel, both spaces are renovated and comfortable. TVs at the bar and in a little lounge section in the restaurant. I would absolutely have dinner here again.
We go here quite often for brunch and it is always pretty quiet. Everything on their brunch menu is really good. Just a warning, the yogurt is a large portion. Enough to fill you up. We made the mistake of ordering it as a side, and more than half of it went to waste. This is also a great place for dinner. I usually get something beef related since the chef changes the menu with what is available seasonally. I have yet to be disappointed. I feel like this place is flying under the radar. It has really good food for a fair price, but is usually not very busy.

Food was very delicious. The outdoor patio seating was wonderful. Service could have been a bit better, but it wasn’t bad. The prices are expensive, but the food is great. The wine is great & many options. We had a Groupon which made the experience well worth it

We had their Mother's Day Brunch buffet, it was very good. The staff was friendly and did a great job. A decent buffet including prime rib and omelettes and so much more, setup very nicely in a large attractive dining room.
Had lunch - chicken sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. Pork was good. Chicken was cooked well, juicy, but bland - no breading or seasoning. Bar staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by food orders but a manager stepped out to help the moment we sat down at a table. Decent food for a hotel.

Bartender was great. Waitstaff were great. Food was mediocre for the price. Kitchen seemed understaffed. Took a long time. Some things were overcooked. Didn't go for dinner though. Just breakfast/lunch. Limited and strange menu choices. Not much of an atmosphere. Felt like eating in a cafeteria. Tbh, I was surprised they called it a restaurant.
Waited a long time to get seated. Service was very slow. The food was good overall. Omelet and benedict were hot and tasty. Home fries were warm and seemed like they had been sitting. Table was dirty and we used an extra napkin to clean it ourselves. The water glasses had significant water stains. The coffee was hot but not refilled.
Decided to eat at this restaurant because it was a convenient half-way meeting point for a family Thanksgiving meal (buffet). Never again for the price they charged. Turkey was hard, pre-cut, overcooked, dried out, needed a steak knife to cut it. Yucch. Salad was pre-drenched with unflattering dressing such that no one who eats greens for health (such as myself) would ever get want to get near it. So, yes, they screwed that up as well. Poor (very small variety) selection of desserts: They had an apple crisp that tasted “off” with apple pieces that were uncooked, and shallow, little pumpkin tarts that were mostly crust whose filling looked pale and dried out enough that I wouldn’t touch them. No actual pies. Can someone at your restaurant just learn how to make a few simple real apple and pumpkin pies for a Thanksgiving dinner? How hard is that?

Took the risk that the worst reviews were several years old. Sadly, they are true that the service is slow or non-existent and the food is mediocre and over-priced. Attached picture is our $8 fruit plate. Daughter liked the chocolate pancakes though.
I didn't want to believe the bad reviews because there were so many good ones, but I did not have a good experience. The server I had was very friendly but messed up a lot and it wasn't busy at all so I can't blame high workload and I was just a table for one. I ordered french onion soup and a chicken dish that came with risotto. The soup came out after the entree and it wasn't the right soup. The risotto was so undercooked I sent it back. Got my soup and it was good, then got my entree back- risotto still very undercooked so I sent it back again and ordered something else because I just wasn't confident I'd get a decent risotto. I got the scallop pasta dish which was decent and they gave me extra scallops for the trouble of my previous mishap; they also took it off the bill so I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was very good customer service. I also think they could reduce the portion sizes of each dish because it was just so much food I felt bad I couldn't finish it all and it would go to waste.

Unfortunately, our experience at Salt Restaurant & Bar on Saturday night was nothing short of chaotic and unprofessional due to one staff member: Karen. Despite calling ahead with updates, we arrived to find half the restaurant dark and barely enough tables set. Karen was dismissive and disorganized, taking orders without checking availability and showing no regard for customer service. Guests waited over an hour, some never received food, gluten-free requests weren’t accommodated, and bills were incorrect. Thankfully, Uniyah stepped in to salvage the situation as best she could. The Collegian Hotel deserves better representation in its restaurant. This experience soured an otherwise lovely stay. Avoid Salt Restaurant if professionalism, accuracy, and hospitality matter to you.
The place was clean and aesthetic. But it was also expensive. $15 for two slices of French toast, or 3 pancakes. No sides, just the bread products. Service was meh. Got a half a glass of water and then sat there for 30 minutes, with no interaction with the waitress, dying of thirst. At least the food was good and came with real maple syrup.

I ordered the HALF CHICKEN on pasta. What I was served was a half breast with a half wing attached! Pathetic!

Worst service I have ever experienced. Waiter was rude snarky and ignored our table majority of our stay. He doted on the loud and obnoxious frat boys. Food was tasteless and they forgot to put the vegetables in my friend’s salad. Just handed her a plate of lettuce. Also the Mimosas were watered down. I’m usually a generous tipper, being that I was a server for many years. our bill was over $150 for 5 people and I gave a $4 tip. Terrible experience.
Sunday brunch! After Church. A very quiet time. Food was satisfing, service didn't interfere with conversation. I will return and so well my partners.
Here for an event and I get it’s busy but got ignored at the host stand ask about seating to get breakfast and told have a seat anywhere waited another 30 min without a sold to even show a menu. With this our time ran out and we went able to eat anything or even see a menu.
