Plowman's Kitchen Taylor Reviews
This used to be Taylor High school, and I guess when the school relocated, they bought space for this restaurant. Menu items are a collection of local family recipes. It was so nice, I'd suggest a road trip from around central Texas to come visit. We picked it from Google maps for Sunday breakfast, and we wouldn't have known it was there otherwise. Hidden gem, for certain.
I have had a great experience here!! We have had friday night dinner here with all of our kiddos and felt well taken care of and feed! We also utilized their pie orders for Thanksgiving this last year and it was smooth order process and so yummy 😋
Driving through Taylor we came across this place. Will definitely be back! I had Chicken fried steak and hubby had breakfast plate. All was DELICIOUS 😋
Excellent meal and friendly service! I had the beet and goat cheese salad, tomato basil soup, and lemon blueberry pie! All were delicious! We will definitely be back, despite the 30+ minute drive from our house. Currently taking reservations for their upcoming Valentine's Day dinner.
I was visiting my sister and her kids and we decided to stop by here for dinner before going to Old Taylor High. I had the shrimp and grits and chicken tortilla soup and it was delicious! I especially loved the atmosphere. My small nephews (3 and 1.5 yrs ) were eating with us and being kids they were a bit loud and messy at times. Our sweet server John was so patient with us and when we apologized for the kids , he assured us that they were just kids being kids and having fun and made us feel so welcome and that this restaurant is kid and family friendly. I absolutely loved that! John made us all feel welcome from the start and entertained us with his great personality, life stories, and friendliness. He also suggested delicious food and desserts. Thanks John and thanks Plowman's kitchen! It makes me and my family want to come back!
Everything we ate was delicious. Appetizer platter, chicken fried steak, shrimp and grits, and pie. Our server John was the main attraction. Even if the food was shit we would return just to see him. Great ambience and family friendly.
New Yorker visiting Texas for work. Great service and a cute atmosphere. Food could be improved. Ordered a rare 8oz fillet mingone, came out as medium and dry. Grit wasn't seasoned at all, and the deviled eggs were mid.
Great service by John, the manager, and really tasty food. My friend and I stopped by to enjoy dessert and celebrate his birthday on Jan 1. Since we hadn't had the requisite New Year's Day black-eyed peas, John was so good to bring us a side of them. They were seasoned perfectly. The lemon meringue pie was delicious and raspberry cheesecake was wonderful. We will definitely return. Thank you, John, for your kind attention.
This is a very charming spot in Taylor. Fashioned out of a former band hall, this place has a unique style and atmosphere: part school nostalgia, part small home town café... all that and a full bar! What's not to like? The food was great. The service was on time and the prices were reasonable as well. This will be a new favorite.
This was my first time trying this restaurant. My wife and I were greeted immediately by "John". He was very friendly and seated us and began serving us. John had a great personality and took great care of us. He made good recommendations. The food was very delicious! We decided on the chicken fried steak. Their bacon jalapeno cream gravy was phenomenal! It is really nice to have great service and great food! We will definitely come back here. Highly recommended! Thanks again, John!
Traveled from Orlando to visit family in Austin, Texas while we were driving around, we came across Plowman’s Kitchen. For my first time, I love the vibe and love the way they decorated the restaurant. The food was amazing and enjoyed the service. Andrea the waitress and John the manager were pleasant and gave great lunch options for us to choose. Definitely will be back when we come back next year to visit.
Plowman’s is the definition of comfort food done right! Both times I’ve eaten here, the meals have been warm, and full of that feel good, home cooked vibe. The menu has a great variety, something for everyone, and everything I’ve had tastes great! The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. Definitely one of those spots you look forward to coming back to. I love how it’s in the old band hall of the school, and enjoyed venturing over to the other businesses in the school. Such a cool atmosphere!
I got the eggs benedict. The eggs were poached to perfection, and the sauce was killer! Dreaming of these right now as a matter of fact. 💭 🍳 🤤 They loaded up this short stack of pancakes with blueberries, and hot damn they were bursting with flavor! 🥞 If you ever find yourself in the beautiful community that is Taylor, Tx you gotta give Plowman's a try.
Out of the way place located in the old high school band room of all places. Indoor and outdoor seating. Full bar with some booths and tables. High school band decor. Food was good had the pulled pork sandwich which was very good my wife had the delicious french toast. The pie and cheesecake selections were extensive. Tried the caramel apple pie and oh my gosh was it good. Definitely recommend that. A little of the main drag but worth it.
Fantastic meal. We loved their meatloaf, chicken fried chicken, brussel sprouts, fried okra, and All's pie. The menu and pie selection are extensive. They have a full bar and on a cold day made me a great hot toddy. The server was so friendly and helpful too. We look forward to coming back soon. Worth driving to Taylor just to eat there. They have a large free parking lot.
Fantastic place at the old high school band hall. They have all sorts of cool, unique decorations that reflect that theme. Food was great, service was great, and they were very attentive to allergy concerns, even placing a very visible note on the order. Love their attention and the home-cooked goodness!!
We were seated immediately. For a Friday night I think that's awesome.! I said, came over promptly asking us if we were ready to order, at this point, he had already ordered our packages. The service is here is really great. !! To be continued : My grandson ordered chicken fried steak, mac & cheese and french fries chicken fried steak was huge and beautifully fried with cream gravy. He has a hefty appetite, but it was so large. He ended up leaving a small piece of it as he was just too full/ his french were OK and he ate all his mac & cheese one of his very favorite dishes. I decided on the meat salad with goat cheese and poppyseed dressing. It also had pecans sprinkled throughout. It was delicious. It was massive so next time I will order a half portion. I also ordered tortilla soup which came with five or six tortilla chips. It was quite good But very spicy. They also have a bakery and make a lot of pies and cakes. There was no way we could eat dessert, but we definitely stopped at the Bakery Case and ordered some Red Velvet Cake for the boys and a piece of Coconut Cream Pie for me. The restaurant has several unique features, including a bar along one side of the restaurant where you can get beer, wine, and cocktails. It had a massive chandelier that was vintage and quite beautiful in the center surrounded by other light fixtures. The tables and chairs and the booths also reminded me of vintage café style furnishings . The round tables and chairs were very unique in that barrel style. Bottom of the tables were a metal cut out design, making them very unique. Our server was absolutely wonderful. Very patient and helpful. Next time I’m in town I will definitely return.!!
Wonderful history and the best homemade pastries I’ve had in my whole life! Clean restrooms too at this adorable hole in the wall restaurant. Such history in the building and the family’s drive to provide made from scratch home cooked meals. Brought back great memories of the foods my family and friends made while I was growing up.
Amazing atmosphere, great hospitality from when we walked in, customer service great, and food is great! It is inside the old Taylor High band hall! The history of Taylor is definitely seen and felt when you step into the restaurant. Mimosas are perfect! Love a little heavy pour. The ranch burger tastes like a homemade burger! Just how I like it. The farm breakfast is a classic breakfast plate. Can’t go wrong with that choice. The Bacon and the French Toast ARE A MUST TRY! My daughter finished her chocolate chip pancake so it must have been really good. I highly recommend this place! I look forward to trying new dishes on my next visit. Especially the brunch!
This place really impressed me! I loved it. They took an abandoned elementary school and turned it into a fantastic bakery/bar and restaurant. The food was amazing! Great flavor, especially that chicken fried steak! I honest cannot remember the last time i had one that good. The fried green tomatoes were fried perfectly with good crisp green tomato slices! Their sweet drizzle really sets these thing apart from anywhere else! The cajun shrimp pasta was good! Rich, saucy, and well cooked shrimp! They have a decent bar selection with a great menu to dive into! I would highly recommend you stop in here and try it!
Plowman's Kitchen, a little hidden gem in the old high school band hall, offers an excellent dining experience with spectacular customer service and decent food. If you are looking for a new place to dine that is not your typical chain restaurant, I highly recommend a visit to Plowman's Kitchen. We had a large party, which resulted in extensive wait times for our food, and some of the dishes came out pretty far apart. The Turkey Club was a 7.5/10. There was too much bread. A piece of rye bread was placed in between the sandwich and it wasn't a good fit, resulting in an odd stacked layered sandwich that didn't mesh well and had too much bread, which also made it difficult to eat. The fries were great and had a wonderful crunch with a soft center. When they serve you water, it's warm tap water with no ice. That was another turn-off for me. The French toast was a hit along with the Eggs Benedict, Avocado Toast, and the kids' chicken tender basket. Plowman's offers exceptional customer service-our waitresss was stellar, a unique and vintage atmosphere, and a decent meal. It's worth a visit.
First time to visit here, and it did not disappoint. Service was prompt, and friendly. I ordered the chicken fried chicken. It was cooked perfectly. The chicken was tender and juicy. The only complaint I had was that it could have been drained, as my plate did have quite a bit of oil. I ordered the mashed potatoes with cream gravy and fried okra. The potatoes were very good. The okra was tasty, but a tad over-cooked. I didnt have any, but the desserts looked very appealing. Will be back and try them next time! Moderately priced and has a nice atmosphere.
We had Plowman’s on our Bucket List and were super disappointed once we actually made it by! The food took much longer than expected, and when it came out the eggs were very watery, the French Toast was soggy, the bacon was undercooked and the breakfast potatoes were cold. Disappointing, but hopefully we just caught them on a busy Sunday morning. We may try again for lunch another day…
