Ellie's Mutt Hut & Vegetarian Cafe Ukiah Reviews
I had just enough time for a quick early dinner, but it had to be good...real good. So I asked around as I walked down the busy sidewalk, where's the best place to get a home-cooked style dinner, I ask 4 separate people as I walked along, and every single one of them said "Ellie's Mutt Hut" And... that was good enough for me! Ellie's gets 5 stars, and they didn't even try hard! ☆☆☆☆☆
Fun local place with great service and atmosphere. Definitely the best hotdogs in town!
Great spot overall. The food and service were both spot on. The atmosphere is a bit odd. They do what they can with the space I suppose. I want to come back and try the whole menu.
Wonderful spot to stop and get lunch in ukiah. Great coffee and sandwiches, they offer a variety of gluten free and vegetarian/vegan options aswell, the staff are also very welcoming and kind!
Fantastic food. Vegan and vegetarian options available. Excellent service, delicious food. Highly recommend!
We travel from Oregon and back frequently. We love everything about this spot. The food is excellent, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is always happy. Also, this eatery is very clean, including the restrooms. We highly recommend enjoying this eatery.
Helpful staff and friendly. We even got a bit of history which is fun. Food was yummy and easy to see what the specials were.
Ellie's Hut in Ukiah is consistently fantastic! I always go for the chicken and brown rice with yogurt…it’s a perfect combination of flavors and always hits the spot. The staff here are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes every visit a pleasure. The menu offers a great variety, catering to different tastes, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend checking it out! Today I opted to hit up Ellie‘s for breakfast and got the Bobby’s breakfast burrito, which was super good!
1st time here, stopped by for lunch, had tge hot pastrami and a cup of chili 😋 service was excellent, sandwich was better than most, chili was excellent. Reasonable price quick service. I'll be back
Whenever I pass through Ukiah a like to stop at Ellie’s. This is a laid back place for good and mostly healthy eats chosen from a wide ranging menu. Vegetarians will be happy with the wide range of options. The people working here are friendly and helpful.
Delicious chilaquiles, average french toast. I was about to give this a bad rating when I noticed breakfast was supposedly only served until 11 (I detest it when restaurants have a random cutoff to stop serving certain dishes; seriously, WHY?), but whee waiters were super friendly and accommodating and still took our order for chilaquiles and french toast even though it was after mid day. This fact alone is principally responsible for my 5 star rating! :-)
Such a cute little place. They have amazing food. My favorites are Chicken & Brown Rice, Chicken Linguine and my all time favorite is their Butternut Squash Soup. The soup is one of a kind, it has very strong pepper warm sensation but is also kinda sweet. I've bought the same soup else where and it's never the same and is trash compared to Ellies. The employees are always kind, it's very clean and a great atmosphere. Oh yes also their blackberry and peach cobblers are amazing as well.
Ellie's Mutt Hut is just a couple of blocks ahead.. he tells me, then he says.. we'll stop there and get the BBQ chicken...it's the best between SF and Garberville. Well, I was getting fuel in Eureka and this bubblehead asked me for a ride to Ukiah, said his mom's in the hospital there and needs him to take care of her dogs. So, I patted him down for drugs and weapons..he was clean, so I said okay, but watch your step or I'll end it for you right then and there, as I showed him Lil Thumper. We pulled into Ukiah and this Brain Surgeon wouldn't shut up about the chicken from Ellie's...this and that, and every which way but Sunday about that chicken. He already told me he didn't have any money, so I bought him that chicken...he was right, probably for the first time in his life..that chicken was Amazing! ☆☆☆☆☆
This place is insanely good and fantastic service. The menu is extensive but it was all simply delicious. We went for lunch at the last minute. Very casual but so enjoyable. We had chorizo tacos, avo chicken salad and one of their special recipe Johnny cakes for something sweet at the end. Very reasonable priced and generous portions. For good American and Mexican food with a casual but authentic vibe, look no further. Catalina was our server and she gets a 10/10. We loved it!
For those of you who are EMH virgins, know this: there is no better all-around home cooking spot for breakfast & lunch for 50 miles along Highway 101 between Cloverdale and Willits. Ellie’s is super well-staffed, which means customers are greeted, helped, and served in record time. Plenty of comfort food (sausage patties, flapjacks) + healthy food (tofu scramble, avocado toast) for breakfast, ditto for lunch. Outdoor shaded patio dining means there’s space for well-behaved dogs. N the bathrooms are ADA accessible and clean. This is a big-time locals hangout, and the prices reflect both the region (reasonable plate prices) yet are not cheap (coffee is $3.50 , fresh-squeezed OJ is $8.50). But the coffee is refillable — we were given a thermos — and the OJ was fabulous.
The vegetarian restaurant for both vegetarians and meat eaters! My wife and I stopped in on a whim and we were very pleasantly surprised about the food. The menu what is simple straightforward. We really enjoyed the big spud. The tofu was surprisingly good. The spices really made the dish. My wife had extra vegetables on hers and the grain was really well cooked. We also had the tortilla soup and the broccoli soup which was very tasty. To finish it all off I ordered the blackberry milkshake which had real blackberries in it. All in all a very enjoyable and affordable meal. I would highly suggest going if you are in Ukiah.
My husband had the vegan Rueben and I had the mushroom spud. Both were very good. My only critique would be it needed to be warmer. (The food) Their restrooms were in a separate room so you needed a code and they were the cleanest restrooms I’ve ever been in.
I ordered my old favorite from. years ago, the tofu avacado sandwich. Not much avacado, and the tofu did not have much flavor. Shredded lettuce--was that new? Unripe tomato...of course it was twice as expensive, no big surprise. Oh well...
The food is good, but the service is terrible. The staff members are polite, but sadly incompetent and slow. The business also exhibits what I would consider unethical, shady business practices. Once our food was delivered, our waitress never came back to check on us. We waited a long time and essentially felt abandoned. The table next to us was the same. The waitress delivered the wrong order to a couple and never came back. After being unable to get anyone's attention, the husband eventually took his wife's plate up to the counter and asked for the correct order. We had to go up ourselves to get a take out container and pay. When we did, the lady flipped the register tablet asking for a tip... Here's where it gets shady. On the tablet, it gives you 3 big button tip options going in what is typically reverse order everywhere else: you can either tip 25% (the leftmost option), 20% (the middle option) or 18% (the far right option). Then at the bottom is a much smaller option for custom tip. I bet a lot of seniors and visually impaired people push the 25% button thinking they're choosing 15%. Plus, I'm pretty sure the waitress charged us incorrectly. It seemed to be more expensive than it should have been. After waiting so long for any service, I didn't raise a fuss and ask to see an itemized bill, I just wanted to leave. We'll never return.
First time here and never again. Honestly the only reason I gave this place two stars instead of one because of the service, our server was so attentive, nice and awesome plus the location is kinda convenient the food was not impressive I ordered tofu and rice platter ($11) it came like a casserole platter that you would get from Denny's. It's was brown calrose rice, chunks of salty soft tofu with bunches of sad looking broccoli, carrot and mushrooms top with choice of sour cream or Greek yogurt (I did ask for yogurt) melted cheese and spring onion. The taste was far beyond gross. My son had bacon cheese hot dog $5 he also got sad pathetic looking bun with hotdog tiny thin sliced of bacon and again unmelted cheese with nothing else that come with no chip or fries My husband has veggies Ruben sandwich $11 which he seems pretty enjoy it I honesty never ever experienced plain, simply made sandwiches this price that served without fries. Honestly for the price and the quality of food it doesn't really worth it most of the dishes have the same ingredients blop of sour cream, shredded cheese and green onion. The way they present the food is like someone that too lazy to cook. It was so unfortunate that we live so close, from reading all the positive reviews from local people we hope that this place might be our favorite place to eat but turn out to be the biggest disappointment.
Disappointed every time I go this time there’s hardly any lettuce in my Caesar salad that cost me over $20. What’s going on
