I was just passing through, but after speaking to some fellow walkers, I popped here on their recommendation. Very cosy, friendly staff, clean, and varied menu. I opted for the curried parsnip soup, with crusty bread, OMG it was delicious, side of chips, coffee and soft drink, just what I needed after a very windy walk along the coast line. Well recommended, very tasty food!

Wow! What a find! We stumbled across this restaurant when trying to find Tyneham village. It looked really busy from the outside, so we tried our luck to get a table. The staff were really lovely, welcoming and warm, got us a table and even produced a separate vegan menu on request! ⭐️⭐️ The starters were so appealing we shared three between us and the mains were cooked to perfection! We were full to the brim, but still managed to squeeze in a sticky toffee pudding. Overvall, very very impressed with the range of options, the quality of the food and the fantastic staff. We will definitely be back!

Loved our Sunday roast + dessert. Only negative was soft drinks pricey at £4.50, but otherwise happy with the quality and portion of the main meal and the lovely choice of desserts.

This is just a lovely little place. The lady who runs it says she is there and open 365 days a year, including Christmas Day, and although in the past I have thought it was closed I was apparently mistaken. Don't be deceived if the snack shack next to the car park is all boarded up, the cafe should still be open! We were made very welcome from the moment we set foot inside, despite being motorcyclists, which sometimes gets a less than joyful greeting! Though there are many outdoor benches which looked lovely in the early spring sunshine, it was March when we visited and below 10°C so although sunny, we opted for indoor seating. The breakfast menu was uncomplicated but the pot of tea that arrived was enormous and plenty strong enough, and the food was perfect, one full English thay my mate said was spot on, and Eggs Florentine for me with a lovely Hollandaise sauce and both spinach and eggs cooked to absolute perfection. We were able to defrost our arms and legs next to a lovely warm radiator and although there isn't much of a view from the inside seats the place is nicely decorated and has a warm and cosy feel. I guess in summer you'll be outside looking at the picturesque thatched cottages lining the little village main street, and fighting off the inevitable wasps! Will definitely visit here again as a regular stop off on biking trips through to West Bay or Lyme, even though it's a little off the beaten track.

After tracking through the mud and the rain we stumbled across this inn and what a find! Food was exceptional and we were made to feel so welcome. They even organised us a taxi due to no phone signal

Fast, efficient, friendly service and very generous portions. There is plenty of seating and being exceptionally warm for the last day of April, we sat outside underneath a beautiful blossom tree. I had the daily special: turkey, brie, and cranberry sandwich on granary bread, which came with chips and cole slaw. My wife had avocado and tomato bruschetta. We both had fruit juice to drink. The bill came to £40, including a 10% service charge, which we could gave asked them to remove.

What can I say? Delicious!!! Food is amazing, staff are very friendly and I love the chilled atmosphere. Priced as you would expect in a tourist spot, but well worth the money. Already been back and I've only been here 2 days. Yum 😋

Lovely restaurant in a pretty village. Excellent food and good service morning brunch and mains after 12 pm . Indoor and outdoor seating gets busy in good weather. Parking and toilets drinking water dispenser. And ice cream stall. The Eggs Royal really very good.

Exquisite food, freshly made. Whitebait grilled pure - no oily fatty batter, seabss & lime fish cakes fluffy on the inside crunchy on the outside, absolutely delightful lunch in a charming thatched cottage setting.

Four of us breezed in on a Sunday lunchtime late December. although the place was full the staff were able to get us seated at a table we had a selection of sandwiches and mackerel the food and service were really first class. Will definitely go again when we are in the area.

Really nice spot - friendly service and very generous with the portions! Two massive scones per cream tea! And millions of cauliflower bites!

My daughter and I both had a delicious lunch with a mocktail. Scampi the best for a long time and a very delicious fish finger sandwich. The restaurant was very well run and all the staff were friendly and efficient. Thank you very much.

Lovely restaurant with indoor and outdoor eating spaces. Great and varied menu catering for all tastes and a good drinks list. Partner’s lobster bisque was delicious and my ploughman’s varied and filling. Followed by a walk to Kimmeridge bay and an ice cream back at Clavells (ice cream hatch serves directly into the garden) before trip home. Moderate pricing given good quality and the beautiful location. Thanks Clavells!

Absolutely brilliant place. Fabulous food and the staff are utterly fantastic. We went one night and back again the next day for lunch because we loved it so much. Huge thanks to the ladies who served us for being so warm and friendly and kind. We loved both our visits and can't recommend you highly enough. Our six year old son thought you were amazing and adored the plaice goujons! - and his special ice cream ❤️

Amazing Food. Service with a smile. Highly recommended. Had Aubergine Parmigiana, was cooked supremely with abundant flavour. Attentive friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. COVID Secure which is important in the current climate. Outdoor seating option too which Imagine would be quite wonderful during the warmer summer months.

I'm not sure if this icecream stall is same as this restaurant cos that'what google picked I dare to say that this banana ice cream at this stall, close to Etchi'w museum is the best natural ice cream I've had!!!!! If I ever visit again, I'm coming with ice packs to freeze some and take home

Revisit to Clavells after a long time. Since last visit it has been renovated very tastefully. Love the colour scheme and shiny varnished table tops. Always busy especially as it was half term. Food and service was excellent. Again we will be back as it is local to us. Recommend this place to any one local and visitors to the area. Also a nice quiet village to walk from to the sea and coast path.

Came here for a a change of scenery, what a great spot nice and open plenty of seating outside. Cream Tea seemed like it was baked onsite it was that fresh. Was looked after by Victoria a well mannered, attentive member of staff. If I'm in the Kimmeridge area again I will be stopping by.

Lovely place, everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious, I wholeheartedly recommend the pork schnitzel, it's a dish not often seen on British menus, and it was absolutely delicious!

We stopped here for a lovely lunch after some fossil hunting on the beach. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and some great food (including a half pint of prawns), followed by some delicious Marshfield ice cream from the kiosk. I would definitely visit again!

Arrived late, as the chef was on the point of closing the kitchen, but they went the extra mile and made me some delicious fish and chips. Nice location. Toilets spotless, with some hilarious paintings on the walls! Massive thumbs-up.

What a lovely restaurant. Emma & Glen were so welcoming. It was myself and my wife’s 41st anniversary weekend and after a lovely stay in Swanage we decided to pop to Kimmeridge to see the Clavell Tower. Popping in to Clavell restaurant was such a lovely treat before heading home and rounded off a lovely weekend. Thank you both so much, we will back in the Summer to see you again. ❤️

First visit. Good food and a very warm welcome. Will definitely be back. Kimmeridge is a great place to visit for walks, this would be a perfect pitstop. Dog friendly

Big family weekend, stuck pin in map, ended up at Clavells for Sunday lunch. What a great choice! Warm welcome, lovely staff, drinks on the table in moments, excellent menu (with veggie/vegan options for selective niece - I had catch of the day) and a delicious meal. Thank you all and hope to come back...

Visited here for breakfast and was not disappointed. Even our dog enjoyed some chicken for breakfast. The food was delicious and well presented. Good service, and food did not take too long to be delivered to our table and it was all freshly cooked. I have not been here for years but will visit again.

We popped in for a cup of tea after visiting the museum and a brief very windy walk at the bay and the door was opened for us as we approached and we were warmly greeted and ushered inside. Menu looked great and we couldn’t resist the crab salad which was indeed delicious. Thank you!

What an absolute delight. Frankie greeted us with a big welcoming smile and she made us feel right at home. Great service, wonderful food. We went on a Thursday lunchtime and It got quite busy, so booking is probably the wise thing to do.

After a day of visiting The Etches Collection Museum, walking round the coast and Kimmeridge Bay, this was the perfect place to stop before heading to the car. We were greeted so warmly, all the staff are super friendly and couldn’t have done more to be welcoming and accommodating. There was a wide choice of specials available to choose from but we decided to treat ourselves to the Clavells Seafood Platter, a portion of Gourmet Chips on the side and the Dorset Breakin’ Wave Lager. The platter came with dressed crab, fresh grilled mackerel, smoked salmon, whitebait, half a pint of prawns, mixed salad, lemon mayo, sweet chilli, Marie Rose, bread and butter - the portion was really big considering the price, great value, the pile of smoked salmon was incredible, everything tasted so fresh and wonderful and the grilled mackerel was the best my husband and I have ever had! The chips were crisp and fluffy, the condiments packing a punch and the lager light and refreshing to wash it all down… the desserts sounded great but we were so full we didn’t order any, next time! We would definitely recommended this restaurant if you’re in the area, it’s a beautiful building situated in a great location. The couple of things I would mention are, the tables could be cleaned a bit more thoroughly as ours was a little sticky, serviettes are part of the cutlery packet so if you need more than 1 you would need to take it from the other packets, and that the team need to understand what draught is, when asking if they have anything on draught, you’re told no, but the Dorset Breakin’ Wave Lager, for example, IS draught (unless they pour the bottle in to a glass, which is unlikely). Very minor points to make it 5* rather than 4*.

Friendly staff, good food and great pit stop after the museum or beach. It was pretty busy when we went but the service was excellent. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We had sandwiches which came with a generous portion of chips and salad. The food others were having looked good too. The pub has a car park but be aware this may be full at peak times. The loos were clean.

Depending on what time you are there and if they're under staffed. Can be exceptionally good or okay but NEVER a bad place to eat. Food is ALWAYS DELICIOUS and consistently yummy!!!

Great place for just a bite, (I had a flapjack and flat white), or considerably more if that's what you're after. Beautiful rural location, good menu and friendly service. A little pricey but to be expected considering the high quality of offerings and excellent location. Recommended

Only stopped for refreshing drink after a lovely walk around Kimmeridge. £6 for a Pimm's and Lemonade but worth every penny. Great service and really friendly staff. Most enjoyable experience.

Great service, good food, geared up for the busy summer months, so off season feels a little different. Large car park.

Nice place to stop for dinner on a Summer's evening. Staff are great and really look after you. Menu is fairly basic - lots of fried food, would love to see more fresh fish. It's also pricey for what you get. PS Avoid the burger - worst I've had for a while

T

Nice place, but pricey and a bit of a tourist trap as the only restaurant in the area. Only worth it price-wise if you go for the 2 for 1 main meals, the food is good quality. We got the seafood basket and beef burger, recommend the latter, but the former is all deep fried and smaller in portion size than expected.

Useful, picturesque spot to grab a bite, have a wee, and start the haul over those fabulous Purbeck hills. Very, very relaxed garden atmosphere, and staff either rushed off their feet, or blissfully unaware what 'working' means. (How could you staff a place in this location when no-one can afford to live nearby?) The 'main' lady, charging about is wonderful. Nice place.

M
Matt Peace

A bit pricey for the experience, I wouldn't recommend it to friends. Apple Cake was too cinnamony, scones were light but had a bitter after taste (not enough jam either). Despite having to place the order at the ordering point (asked for a tip before providing any service) our drinks came well in advance of the food. There was a good selection of toys and games for younger visitors although someone needs to check the playing cards, there are some extras and some missing. Ice cream was good.

The setting is nice and the staff are lovely, but the food is pretty average (don't go for the curry, it was very bland) and the drinks prices are extortionate! £5.50 for HALF a shandy is an absolute rip-off.

Went there with my family as were around and very hungry..Thai curry is everything else but the Thai and both me and hubby had heartburn the whole evening:( I'm not a great cook but even in do it better. Went for affogato, everything was given separately and though presentation was good, the taste wasn't. Ice cream was ok but we couldn't finish the coffee though both love a good coffee ..Cider was good:) so if you are in the area and want something more than just quick bite, better check another place.

The location is great but sorry to say both our plates of fish and chip were bad …. Very greasy and tasteless …. Chips were like oven chips. I am assuming this was a bad day as in the past the food was good. One thing however that is really bad is the artificial grass in the side garden seating area …. This used to be a lovely garden for having lunch with the big tree in the middle …. Now it looks like a cheap pub garden in Clapham junction ….. who could have had the idea of having artificial grass in a lovely ancient county pub surrounded by nature … goodness me talk about destroying the atmosphere of the place .

Beautiful place with very lovely team. Unfortunately my mussels were definitely expired. And food was too pricey for what we received. We also ordered lamb tagine, which wasn’t lamb. It was four pieces of beef. We came there all the way from Wareham, as on the website you can see that they are serving steak, WHICH THEY DONT. Service charge is included but you have to order at the counter… They have to calculate their strengths for intentions.

Visited today at lunchtime. Ordered “fresh “ crab sandwiches there was nothing particularly fresh about the mush in the sandwiches. A complete rip off considering the price paid . Which included a service charge taken at point of order. !!!!!!As locals to the area. There is much better quality and value for money to be had in many other picturesque places on the Dorset coast

W
Wayne keniston

While staying locally for 2 weeks, we called in just for drinks to see for ourselves. They only do botled beer/lager at very very inflated prices. On top of that they had the cheek to add on a SERVICE CHARGE. We decided to give the restaurant a miss altogether.
